Born of a father who graduated from the U.S. military academy and a mother who is a United States citizen, Conchita started her bullfighting career at 13. She gets $2,000 for an afternoon’s performance.

In the arena at Tiajuna, Mexico, Conchita takes on a 1,200-pound enraged bull, fighting on foot in Spanish style. Cheering throngs from Portugal to Mexico have watched the slightly-built queen of the bull-fighters.

The "Unusual Occupations" series of theatrical short subjects was produced by Jerry Fairbanks Studios and released by Paramount Pictures from 1937 through 1949. This remarkable collection throws a spotlight on ordinary, everyday people who chose "the path less taken" in pursuit of extraordinary odd jobs, crazy careers and hysterical hobbies. "Unusual Occupations" is also an incredible chronicle of pop culture, lifestyles and remarkable achievements by individuals the world over. Conchita Cintrón or La Diosa de Oro, was a famous Chilean-Peruvian bullfighter who was active from the mid-1930s until 1950. She killed more than 750 bulls over the course of her career. #womenshistorymonth

Inspiring Women #1:  Conchita Cintrón or La Diosa de Oro ('The Golden Goddess') was a Peruvian torera (female bullfighter). Lived 1922-2009.

In the 1940s she was a big draw card on the bullfighting circuit, not only in Peru but in Mexico, Portugal, France, Ecuador, Venezuela, Colombia, and Spanish Morocco. She even fought once in the United States, near San Francisco. She left her duende, an indelible mark in a male-dominated profession.

Definitely a Pioneer of the Possible.
