Ashita Chikyuu ga Konagona ni Natte mo (“Even if the World Should Go To Pieces Tomorrow”)
“Come here. As long as you’re here with me, even if it’s the day the world ends, I’ll embrace the irrationality and contradictions and show you the ultimate stage.”
OR: The singer’s hypothetical end-of-the-world plan.
hiruma no nagareboshi densha de oikakete
minareta kaisatsu de tsukamaeta no
fuugawari na heya ni sumi sore to naku tsukaretete
to wa ie oshigoto wa totemo junchou na no
I chased the daytime shooting star on the train
And was detained at the usual ticket gate
I’m getting faintly tired of living in an eccentric room
Although my job is quite great
tooriame wo furikaettara
rojiura kara neko ga miteta
kono koe ga kikoeteimasu ka?
watashi tte chotto tsuyoku natta to omou yo
When I turned back to look at the passing rain,
A cat was looking at me from the back alley
Can you hear my voice?
I feel like I’ve become a little stronger
dakedo kitto
But I’m sure

If the world goes to pieces tomorrow
If I turn into a speck of space dust and vanish
I’ll dress myself up fashionably, like a prism,
Say “this sucks!” and stay in bed
I’m tired of just keeping up the tough act
I also cry, so
Hold me tightly
Just that, that’s all
Just that, that’s all I want, please
yoru shijima ni toketeku kai denpa wo
tesaguri de kakitometa ano hibi wa
The mysterious radio waves that melt away into silence at night,
I spent those days fumblingly trying to record them
mada asa mo akete inai no ni
owari bakari wo ki ni shiteta
kono koe kikoeteimasu ka?
watashi tte kekkou ganbatteru to omou yo
It’s not yet dawn, but
I’ve been worrying non-stop about the end
Can you hear my voice?
I’m hanging in there quite well, I think
dakedo kitto
But I’m sure
ashita chikyuu ga konagona ni natte
uchuu no chiri ni natte kietara
OORORA mitai na MEIKU shite

muri shiteru yo gomen ne
If the world goes to pieces tomorrow
If I become a speck of dust in the universe and vanish
I’ll do my makeup up like the aurora
Say “this sucks!” and die
I’m not scared, I’m exhausted
Although I’m also slacking off
Hold me tightly
Am I over doing it?
I’m overdoing it, I’m sorry

Where is the smoothly-traveling meteor headed?¹

“Come here
As long as you’re here with me
Even if it’s the day the world ends,
I’ll embrace the irrationality and contradictions
And show you the ultimate stage
360 degrees, floating in the blue sky
Let’s go get our hands on that space ship zooming to-and-fro
It’s definitely a promise
Promise me, please”

¹ Tunguska is a reference to the Tungusuka event that occurred in Russia in 1908, which is thought to be the biggest “impact event” (space stuff like meteors crashing into stuff and going boom”) on Earth in recorded human history–even though it technically never hit the earth, the whole “that one time the earth was on the edge of going to pieces” is universally terrifying.
The manga panels at the beginning of the video read 「地球がこなごなになる。」それでも私たちは、今日も地球の声をきく。(“The World Is Going to Pieces.” Even so, we hear the earth’s voice today as well.)
As for the other lines:
The words in the little doodles are like speech/sound bubbles, and read:
I’ll go for a stroll~ / Come here (kitty~) / *Blowing Sound* / *Sound of quick steps* / *Munch Munch* / Owww
The full dialogue cards in between are just bits and pieces of the lyrics, as follows:
I believe I’ve gotten stronger/ I also cry / Please… / I believe I’m doing my best / I’m overdoing it / Hug me tightly / Come Here/ Please / Please
