Asia: an Average of 4% to 25% Cheaper
With a population of over 4 billion people, Asia is a truly big destination. Taking into account their current economic boom and social growth, they will become one of the largest travel destinations for work or leisure in the upcoming decades. Offering prime locations in Tokyo, Bangkok, Bali and more Lockchain has already secured an important part of the market with their partnerships. Donald J. Trump, a reality-television star erecting a mausoleum for himself behind the first-hole tee of a golf course he owns in New Jersey, first declared his candidacy for president of the United States in the atrium of Trump Tower, which he built in the 1980s with labor provided by hundreds of undocumented Polish workers and concrete purchased at an inflated price from the Gambino and Genovese crime families. “The American dream is dead,” Trump said to the audience members, each of whom he paid $50 to attend. During Trump’s primary campaign, he told his supporters that he knew “all about crazies,” loved “Wall Street guys” who are “brutal,” planned to “use the word ‘anchor baby,’ ” and preferred to pronounce “Qatar” incorrectly. Trump, who in 1999 cut his sick infant grandnephew off the Trump Organization’s health-care plan and in 2011 compared being gay to switching to a long-handled golf putter, pledged to repeal the Affordable Care Act and said he’d consider trying to overturn the legalization of same-sex marriage. Trump said that his book The Art of the Deal was second in quality only to the Bible and that he never explicitly asked God for forgiveness. At a church in Iowa, he placed a few dollar bills into a bowl filled with sacramental bread, which he has referred to as “my little cracker.” Trump, who once dumped a glass of wine on a journalist who wrote a story he didn’t like, told his supporters that journalists were “liars,” the “lowest form of humanity,” and “enemies,” but that he did not approve of killing them. “I’m a very sane person,” said Trump, who once hosted a radio show in which he discussed the development of hair-cloning technology, the creation of a vaccine for obesity, the number of men a gay man thinks about having sex with on his morning commute, and the dangers of giving free Viagra to rapists. Trump denied being the voice of John Miller, one of several fictional assistants he had previously admitted pretending to be, in a recording of himself telling a reporter that he had “zero interest” in dating Madonna; that he had three other girlfriends in addition to Marla Maples, with whom he had been cheating on his wife; and that he had an affair with Carla Bruni, who later responded by describing Trump as “obviously a lunatic.” Trump, who once offered the city of New York vacant apartments in his building to house homeless people in hopes they would drive away rent-controlled tenants, sent a bumper sticker to a group of homeless veterans whom he had previously declined to help and asked them to campaign for him. Trump, whose companies have been cited 24 times since 2005 for failing to pay workers overtime or minimum wage, said the federal minimum wage should go up, and then said it should not. Trump referred to 9/11 as “7-Eleven,” and called Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren “the Indian” and “Pocahontas.” Trump, who had previously labeled a deaf contestant on his reality-TV show The Apprentice “retarded,” and had described poor Americans as “morons,” said the country was on course for a “very massive recession,” one resembling the U.S. recession of 2007 to 2009, which Trump once said Americans could “opt out of” by joining Trump Network, a multilevel-marketing company that sold a monthly supply of multivitamins purportedly tailored to customers based on a test of their urine. Trump submitted his financial-disclosure form to the Federal Election Commission, on which he swore under oath that his golf course in Briarcliff Manor, New York, which was being sued by the town for causing flooding, was worth $50 million, despite having sworn in a previous property-tax appeal that it was worth $1.4 million; and swore that his golf course in Palos Verdes, California, which he was suing for five times its annual revenue, was worth more than $50 million, despite previously having filed papers with Los Angeles County stating it was worth $10 million. Trump claimed he made $1.9 million from his modeling agency, which a foreign-born former model accused of “modern-day slavery,” alleging that the agency forced her to lie about her age, work without a U.S. visa, and live in a crowded apartment for which she paid the agency as much as $1,600 a month to sleep in a bed beneath a window through which a homeless man once urinated on her. Trump sought to exclude a recording of himself telling the nephew of former president George W. Bush that he grabs women “by the pussy” from a fraud suit filed against Trump University, a series of real-estate seminars taught by salespeople with no real-estate experience, which was housed in a Trump-owned building that the Securities and Exchange Commission said also housed the country’s most complained-about unregistered brokerages, and whose curriculum investigators in Texas described as “inapplicable.” Trump announced that he would win the Latino vote, and tweeted a photo of himself eating a taco bowl from Trump Grill in Trump Tower with the message “I love Hispanics!” Trump referred to a black man at one of his rallies as “my African American,” and pledged his support for black people at a gathering of mostly white people in Wisconsin, whom he often referred to as “the forgotten people.” “I am the least racist person,” said Trump, who was sued twice by the Justice Department in the 1970s for allegedly refusing to rent apartments to black tenants, whose Trump Plaza Hotel was fined $200,000 by the New Jersey Casino Control Commission in 1992 for removing black dealers from card tables, who allegedly told a former employee that he hated “black guys counting my money,” who in 2005 floated the idea of pitting an all-black Apprentice team against an all-white one to reflect “our very vicious world,” and who was endorsed by leaders of the Ku Klux Klan, one of whom said, “What he believes, we believe.” Trump tweeted statistics credited to a fictional government agency falsely claiming that the majority of white murder victims in the United States are killed by black people. Trump tweeted a photoshopped picture of Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, who Trump had said “had blood coming out of her wherever,” standing next to a Saudi prince, who tweeted back that he had “financially rescued” Trump twice, including once in 1990, when the prince purchased Trump’s 281-foot yacht, which was formerly owned by a Saudi arms dealer with whom Trump often partied in Atlantic City, and with whom Trump was implicated in a tax-evasion scheme involving a Fifth Avenue jewelry store. Trump disputed former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s claim that Trump magazine is defunct, showing as proof an annual circular for his clubs that was not Trump magazine, which folded in 2009. Trump republished his book Crippled America with the title Great Again. Trump told and retold an apocryphal story about a U.S. general who executed Muslim soldiers with bullets dipped in pig’s blood and proposed that Muslims be banned from entering the country. At the first primary debate, Trump praised his companies’ bankruptcies, including that of Trump Entertainment Resorts, in which lenders lost more than $1 billion and 1,100 employees lost their jobs, and that of Trump Hotels and Casino Resorts, a publicly traded company that Trump used to purchase two casinos for almost $1 billion, and from which he resigned after the company went bankrupt for the first time, but before it went bankrupt for the second time. “I made a lot of money,” said Trump. At the fifth primary debate, Trump defended the idea of retaliating against America’s foreign aggressors by killing non-combatant members of their families, saying it would “make people think.” At the eleventh primary debate, Trump told the crowd there was “no problem” with the size of his penis. Trump said that he knew more about the Islamic State than “the generals,” and that he would “rely on the generals” to defeat the Islamic State. Trump said he would bring back waterboarding and torture because “we have to beat the savages.” Trump offered to pay the legal bills of anyone who assaulted protesters at his rallies, denied making the offer, then made the offer again after a 78-year-old white supporter in North Carolina punched a 26-year-old black protester in the eye and said, “Next time we see him we might have to kill him.” Trump, who in 1999 called Republicans too “crazy right” and in 2000 ran on a Reform Party platform that included creating a lottery to fund U.S. spy training, said that the 2016 primaries were “rigged,” then clinched the Republican nomination for president, receiving more votes than any Republican in history. “I was the one who really broke the glass ceiling,” said Trump when his Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, became the first woman to lead a major party’s ticket. Trump hired Steve Bannon, the editor of the white-nationalist website Breitbart, to replace his former campaign manager Paul Manafort, who ran a firm that once lobbied for the military dictator of Zaire, and who himself replaced Corey Lewandowski, who resigned from the campaign not long after he was filmed grabbing a Breitbart reporter by the arm to prevent her from asking Trump any questions. Trump selected as his running mate Indiana governor Mike Pence, who previously backed a bill that would allow hospitals to deny care to critically ill pregnant women, and who once criticized the Disney character Mulan as a “mischievous liberal” created to persuade Americans that women should be allowed to hold combat positions in the military. In his general-election campaign, Trump said he would consider recognizing Crimea as Russian territory, and called on Russia to hack into Clinton’s email account. Trump said that he doesn’t pay employees who don’t “do a good job,” after a review of the more than 3,500 lawsuits filed against Trump found that he has been accused of stiffing a painter and a dishwasher in Florida, a glass company in New Jersey, dozens of hourly hospitality workers, and some of the lawyers who represented him. “I’m a fighter,” said Trump, who body-slammed the WWE chairman at WrestleMania 23 in 2007, and who attended WrestleMania IV with Robert LiButti, an Atlantic City gambler with alleged mafia ties, who told Trump he’d “fucking pull your balls from your legs” if Trump didn’t stop trying to seduce his daughter. Trump, whose first wife, Ivana, accused him in divorce filings of rape, and whose special counsel later said rape within a marriage was not possible, said “no one respects women more than I do.” Trump threatened to sue 12 women who accused him of sexual misconduct, including one who recalled Trump trying “like an octopus” to put his hand up her skirt on an airplane 35 years ago; four former Miss Teen USA contestants, who alleged that Trump entered their dressing room while girls as young as 15 were changing and said, “I’ve seen it all before”; the winner of Miss Utah USA in 1997, who alleged that Trump forcibly kissed her on the lips and then told her, “Twenty-one is too old”; an adult-film star, who alleged that at a golf tournament in Tahoe in 2006 Trump offered her $10,000 and the private use of his jet to spend the night with him; and a People magazine reporter, who alleged that while she was writing a story on Trump and his current wife, Melania, on the occasion of their first wedding anniversary, Trump pushed her against the wall and forcibly kissed her before telling her, “We’re going to have an affair.” “What I say is what I say,” said Trump, who previously told a pair of 14-year-old girls that he would date them in a couple of years, said of a 10-year-old girl that he would date her in 10 years, told a journalist that he wasn’t sure whether his infant daughter Tiffany would have nice breasts, told the cast of The View that if Ivanka weren’t his daughter “perhaps I would be dating her,” told radio host Howard Stern that it was okay to call Ivanka a “piece of ass” and that he could have “nailed” Princess Diana, and tweeted that a former winner of his Miss Universe pageant, whom Trump once called “Miss Piggy,” was disgusting. “Check out sex tape,” tweeted Trump, who once appeared in a soft-core pornographic film breaking a bottle of wine over a limousine. Trump did not comment on reports that he used over $200,000 in charitable contributions to the Trump Foundation to settle lawsuits against his businesses, $20,000 in contributions to the Trump Foundation to buy a six-foot-tall painting of himself, and $10,000 in contributions to buy a smaller painting of himself, which he hung on the wall of his restaurant Champions Bar and Grill. “I’m the cleanest guy there is,” said Trump, who once granted the rights to explore building Trump-branded towers in Moscow to a mobster convicted of stabbing a man in the face with the stem of margarita glass, who was mentored by the former lead counsel for Senator Joseph McCarthy and the Gambino and Genovese crime families, who once purchased a nightclub in Atlantic City from a hit man for a Philadelphia crime family, who once worked with a soldier in the Colombo crime family to outfit Trump Golden and Executive Series limousines with a fax machine and a liquor dispenser, and who once purchased helicopter services from a cigarette-boat racer named Joseph Weichselbaum, who was charged with drug trafficking in Ohio before being moved to Trump’s sister’s courtroom in New Jersey, where the case was handed off to a different judge, who gave Weichselbaum a three-year prison sentence, of which he served 18 months before moving into Trump Tower. Trump told journalists he “made a lot of money” when he leased his house in Westchester to the late Libyan dictator Muammar Qaddafi. “I screwed him,” said Trump. Kennedy, and that U.S. Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia may have been suffocated with a pillow. During the first debate of the general election, Trump said that Rosie O’Donnell had deserved it when he called her “disgusting both inside and out,” “basically a disaster,” a “slob,” and a “loser,” someone who “looks bad,” “sounds bad,” has a “fat, ugly face,” and “talks like a truck driver.” At the second general-election debate, Trump invited three women who have accused Clinton’s husband of sexual misconduct to sit in the front row; claimed that Clinton had once laughed about the rape of a 12-year-old girl, which audio showed not to be true; claimed that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement had endorsed him, which it had not; and afterward suggested that his opponent had been on drugs during the debate. Trump, who said he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and not lose supporters, told his supporters that Clinton could shoot one of them and not be prosecuted. You may not create or design your website or any other website that you operate, explicitly or implied in a manner which resembles our website nor design your website in a manner which leads customers to believe you are NinjaOutreach.com or any other affiliated business. 2.2. As a member of NinjaOutreach.com's Affiliate Program, you will have access to Affiliate Account Manager. Here you will be able to review our Program’s details and previously-published affiliate newsletters, download HTML code (that provides for links to web pages within the NinjaOutreach.com web site) and banner creatives, browse and get tracking codes for our coupons and deals. In order for us to accurately keep track of all guest visits from your site to ours, you must use the HTML code that we provide for each banner, text link, or other affiliate link we provide you with. 2.3. NinjaOutreach.com reserves the right, at any time, to review your placement and approve the use of Your Links and require that you change the placement or use to comply with the guidelines provided to you. 2.4. The maintenance and the updating of your site will be your responsibility. We may monitor your site as we feel necessary to make sure that it is up-to-date and to notify you of any changes that we feel should enhance your performance. 2.5. It is entirely your responsibility to follow all applicable intellectual property and other laws that pertain to your site. You must have express permission to use any person's copyrighted material, whether it be a writing, an image, or any other copyrightable work. We will not be responsible (and you will be solely responsible) if you use another person's copyrighted material or other intellectual property in violation of the law or any third party rights. 3. NinjaOutreach.com Rights and Obligations 3.1. We have the right to monitor your site at any time to determine if you are following the terms and conditions of this Agreement. We may notify you of any changes to your site that we feel should be made, or to make sure that your links to our web site are appropriate and to notify further you of any changes that we feel should be made. If you do not make the changes to your site that we feel are necessary, we reserve the right to terminate your participation in the NinjaOutreach.com Affiliate Program. 3.2. NinjaOutreach.com reserves the right to terminate this Agreement and your participation in the NinjaOutreach.com Affiliate Program immediately and without notice to you should you commit fraud in your use of the NinjaOutreach.com Affiliate Program or should you abuse this program in any way. If such fraud or abuse is detected, NinjaOutreach.com shall not be liable to you for any commissions for such fraudulent sales. 3.3. This Agreement will begin upon our acceptance of your Affiliate application, and will continue unless terminated hereunder. 4. Termination Either you or we may end this Agreement AT ANY TIME, with or without cause, by giving the other party written notice. Written notice can be in the form of mail, email or fax. In addition, this Agreement will terminate immediately upon any breach of this Agreement by you. 5. Modification We may modify any of the terms and conditions in this Agreement at any time at our sole discretion. In such event, you will be notified by email. Modifications may include, but are not limited to, changes in the payment procedures and NinjaOutreach.com's Affiliate Program rules. If any modification is unacceptable to you, your only option is to end this Agreement. Your continued participation in NinjaOutreach.com's Affiliate Program following the posting of the change notice or new Agreement on our site will indicate your agreement to the changes. 6. Payment NinjaOutreach.com uses a third party to handle all of the tracking and payment. NinjaOutreach payouts every 30 days on all sales that have matured over 60 days. For example, if payments are made on the first of every month, and an affiliate sale is made on January 15th 2015, then the payout for that will be April 1st 2015. We have a minimum affiliate payout threshold of $100 this means you will have to generate a minimum of $100 commission to be paid out. In the event that a customer asks for a refund the affiliate will not receive the commission for the month connected with the refund. 7. Access to Affiliate Account Interface You will create a password so that you may enter our affiliate account interface. From their you will be able to receive your reports that will describe our calculation of the commissions due to you. 8. Promotion Restrictions 8.1. You are free to promote your own web sites, but naturally any promotion that mentions NinjaOutreach.com could be perceived by the public or the press as a joint effort. You should know that certain forms of advertising are always prohibited by NinjaOutreach.com. For example, advertising commonly referred to as "spamming" is unacceptable to us and could cause damage to our name. Other generally prohibited forms of advertising include the use of unsolicited commercial email (UCE), postings to non-commercial newsgroups and cross-posting to multiple newsgroups at once. In addition, you may not advertise in any way that effectively conceals or misrepresents your identity, your domain name, or your return email address. You may use mailings to customers to promote NinjaOutreach.com so long as the recipient is already a customer or subscriber of your services or web site, and recipients have the option to remove themselves from future mailings. Also, you may post to newsgroups to promote NinjaOutreach.com so long as the news group specifically welcomes commercial messages. At all times, you must clearly represent yourself and your web sites as independent from NinjaOutreach.com. If it comes to our attention that you are spamming, we will consider that cause for immediate termination of this Agreement and your participation in the NinjaOutreach.com Affiliate Program. Any pending balances owed to you will not be paid if your account is terminated due to such unacceptable advertising or solicitation. 8.2. Affiliates that among other keywords or exclusively bid in their Pay-Per-Click campaigns on keywords such as NinjaOutreach.com, NinjaOutreach, www.NinjaOutreach, www.NinjaOutreach.com, and/or any misspellings or similar alterations of these – be it separately or in combination with other keywords – and do not direct the traffic from such campaigns to their own website prior to re-directing it to ours, will be considered trademark violators, and will be banned from NinjaOutreach's Affiliate Program. We will do everything possible to contact the affiliate prior to the ban. However, we reserve the right to expel any trademark violator from our affiliate program without prior notice, and on the first occurrence of such PPC bidding behavior. 8.3. Grant of Licenses 9.1. We grant to you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to (i) access our site through HTML links solely in accordance with the terms of this Agreement and (ii) solely in connection with such links, to use our logos, trade names, trademarks, and similar identifying material (collectively, the "Licensed Materials") that we provide to you or authorize for such purpose. You are only entitled to use the Licensed Materials to the extent that you are a member in good standing of NinjaOutreach.com's Affiliate Program. You agree that all uses of the Licensed Materials will be on behalf of NinjaOutreach.com and the good will associated therewith will inure to the sole benefit of NinjaOutreach.com. 9.2. Each party agrees not to use the other's proprietary materials in any manner that is disparaging, misleading, obscene or that otherwise portrays the party in a negative light. Each party reserves all of its respective rights in the proprietary materials covered by this license. Indemnification You hereby agree to indemnify and hold harmless NinjaOutreach.com, and its subsidiaries and affiliates, and their directors, officers, employees, agents, shareholders, partners, members, and other owners, against any and all claims, actions, demands, liabilities, losses, damages, judgments, settlements, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) (any or all of the foregoing hereinafter referred to as "Losses") insofar as such Losses (or actions in respect thereof) arise out of or are based on (i) any claim that our use of the affiliate trademarks infringes on any trademark, trade name, service mark, copyright, license, intellectual property, or other proprietary right of any third party, (ii) any misrepresentation of a representation or warranty or breach of a covenant and agreement made by you herein, or (iii) any claim related to your site, including, without limitation, content therein not attributable to us. 14. Air Force crews have stayed overnight at President Donald Trump’s Turnberry resort in Scotland on at least four occasions, two more than previously reported.
The four trips — uncovered through interviews with people present, records of expenditures and social media postings — date back to at least September 2018 and continued through at least this past June. They include at least one instance in which a crew member said a nearby airport arranged for rides and lunches to and from the luxury waterside retreat. All the flights were shuttling crews between the United States and the Middle East, and at least three of them of them were divisions of the Air National Guard. In total, over 60 service members stayed at the posh property on these stopovers.

Now, with Congress returning from an extended August break, Democrats want to make sure these Air Force crews never again stay at Trump Turnberry. On Monday, lawmakers began stumping for the Senate to adopt an amendment that would bar the Pentagon from spending money at nearly five dozen Trump properties worldwide. The House passed the clause in July as part of the broader annual defense policy bill, but it has not yet been adopted into law.
“As alarming details emerge about U.S. Air Force crews staying at the president’s luxury golf resort in Scotland, it has become even more important that Congress include this language in the final version of the National Defense Authorization Act,” said Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.), one of the sponsors of the proposal.
The push to outlaw the practice will join a growing list of conflict-of-interest concerns that Democrats want to highlight in the coming months as House leaders decide whether to begin formal impeachment proceedings against the president. The overnight stops at Turnberry have already sparked a broader House Oversight Committee investigation of military spending at and around Trump properties. The Air Force over the weekend also launched a worldwide review of how it chooses lodging on overnight layovers. A legislative battle could be next.
“The president has already shown a willingness to violate the Constitution’s emoluments clause, and Congress has a duty to use every tool we can to stop him,” Beyer said, referring to the provision that prohibits the president from receiving any compensation from the federal government other than a salary.
The Air Force has said the stops are within Pentagon guidelines and noted that the Turnberry bookings fall within acceptable rates for military travel. But the service also conceded that the appearance of staying at the president’s property might create a negative perception.
Trump, for his part, proclaimed no knowledge of the stays in a Monday morning tweet.
“I know nothing about an Air Force plane landing at an airport (which I do not own and have nothing to do with) near Turnberry Resort (which I do own) in Scotland, and filling up with fuel, with the crew staying overnight at Turnberry (they have good taste!). NOTHING TO DO WITH ME,” he wrote.
The Air Force stays at Turnberry date back to at least September 2018.
That month, a unit of the Maine Air National Guard landed at Prestwick Airport — stationed about 20 miles from Turnberry — on its way back to the U.S. from Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. The crew — members of the 101st Air Refueling Wing — and their passengers then spent the night at Trump’s hotel, according to one person who was present and a voucher detailing the crew’s itinerary reviewed by POLITICO.
In total, at least a dozen Air Force members stayed at Turnberry that night, this person recalled.
What was “also odd,” the person said, was that Prestwick Airport went above and beyond for the service members — the airport booked the rooms at Turnberry, coordinated free rides to and from the resort, and even packed the crew lunches for the day they departed.
A spokesman for the airport did not dispute that recollection.
“Like all airports, we provide a full handling service for customers and routinely arrange overnight accommodation for visiting aircrew when requested,” the spokesman told POLITICO. “We use over a dozen local hotels, including Trump Turnberry, which accounts for a small percentage of the total hotel bookings we make.”
The spokesman further noted that the airport does not pay for crew accommodation and takes no commission from Turnberry for any bookings they make on behalf of the Air Force. He denied offering air crews free rounds of golf at the resort, rebutting aspects of a Guardianreportfrom early 2018.
The stays didn’t end there.
Also in September 2018, the Iowa Air National Guard, en route back to the U.S. from an official visit to Kosovo in a KC-135 plane, stopped to refuel in Scotland, according to a person familiar with the matter and a spokesperson for the Iowa National Guard.
The 185th air refueling wing out of Sioux City, Iowa, which was making the trip, had about 35 to 40 soldiers and airmen that needed lodging, and they ultimately stayed at Turnberry. According to the spokesperson, the crew doubled up in rooms and were provided transportation to and from Prestwick.
The Prestwick stop was due to fuel “limitations” on the flight out of Kosovo, the spokesperson said. And the overnight stay at Turnberry was arranged through the Defense Travel System — essentially the Pentagon’s in-house travel agent — and “directed by a higher echelon … based on mission and operational requirements.”
Then, in March of this year, the 176th maintenance squadron — an Air National Guard unit based in Alaska — lodged at Trump’s Turnberry resort en route to Kuwait to deliver supplies. That stopover was the initial revelation of the practice, which POLITICO firstreportedon Friday.
Finally, in late June of this year, an aircrew and its passengers en route to Iraq arrived at Turnberry by the busload, according to a person who was there and an Instagram post by an Air Force crew member.
The Air Force said it could not immediately confirm the additional Turnberry stops or why the accommodations were selected over other potential lodging in the area. But it noted over the weekend that the March Turnberry stop fell within Pentagon guidelines, with comparable or cheaper rates than other nearby hotels. Still, the Air Force review of these choices will assess the “guidance associated with the use of civil airports and lodging selection for aircrew at en route locations,” according to a formal memo issued Monday.
The memo sets out a 30-day timeline to offer “recommendations for any proposed adjustments and process changes.”
If the Democrats have their way, though, the Pentagon may not even have the choice to stay at Trump properties in the future.
Theprovisionthat the House adopted in July would block the Pentagon from spending money at 57 specific Trump properties. Under the provision, Trump could waive the ban if he reimburses the Treasury Department for the expenses.
The language, which passed by a 223-205 vote, was included in the House’s version of the National Defense Authorization Act.
The Democratic leaders of the House Armed Services Committee and their Republican counterparts in the Senate are aiming to hammer out a compromise defense bill later this month. It’s unclear whether the language will make it into the final bill, although Republicans have blasted the proposal as impractical and a partisan stunt meant to embarrass Trump.
House Armed Services Chairman Adam Smith (D-Wash.) said the revelations bolster Democrats’ argument headed into negotiations with the Senate.
“It’s difficult because we try to put in accountability measures, and every time we do it, the Republicans just scream that we just hate Trump,” Smith said in an interview. “That’s not the point. The point is that ethics matter within government.”
The stays at Turnberry come as the Air Forces use of Prestwick has steadily grown in recent years. Stops at the facility have nearly tripled since 2015, and overnights in the area have increased more than fivefold in that same time, the Air Force said on Sunday.
From 2015 to 2019, they said, Air Mobility Command aircraft stopped at the civil airport 936 times. Of those, crews stayed overnight in the area 659 times. The service has not said how many of those overnight stays were at Turnberry.
The frequency of both stops at Prestwick and overnight stays in the area have increased each year since 2015. Through August of this year, the Air Force had stopped 259 times at Prestwick, and lodged around the airport 220 times.

Blossoming Light in Expressive Room Sculptures by Licht Kunst Licht
An Orchestration with High Contrast Lighting for the Permanent Exhibition of the National Museum of Qatar
With its ceremonious inauguration and prominent guests from around the world, the National Museum of Qatar opened its gates on March 27th 2019 after more than 10 years of design and construction. The breathtaking architecture of Pritzker Prize laureate Jean Nouvel was inspired by a sand rose and opens up expressive spatial sequences of incredible grace. For the 11 galleries of the permanent exhibition, the Licht Kunst Licht team developed an architecturally integrated light narrative that accompanies the visitor in a scenic and suspenseful manner through the 700 million years of natural and cultural history of the Gulf state.
The Sand Rose – Inspiration from Nature
In 2008, the public foundation Qatar Museums, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, was able to win over the French star architect Jean Nouvel for the new construction of the National Museum of Qatar. Formerly located within the Old Palace of Sheikh Abdulla bin Jassim Al Thani (1880 – 1957), built in 1906, the museum has undergone an enormous expansion of an impressive 40,000 square meters.
The unique architecture of the new building reflects the deep connection of the once nomadic people with the desert, fauna and flora of the country: It evokes a sand rose, a crystal structure, formed by sand, salt water and wind, naturally occurring in the Gulf state. As such, the building resides prominently at the shore of Doha’s Corniche, characterized by large, convex disks, intersections and cantilevering canopies, its form is spatial and sensual, providing shade and refuge.
Inside, volumes of great expression emerge, with room sequences of both crouching and cathedral-like heights, sometimes evoking the intimacy of nomadic tents, sometimes the vastness of the firmament. Daylight pours in through gaps, apertures and spandrels in carefully selected locations – as the powerful, harsh sunlight of the region had to be tamed to fulfill conservation related requirements. It reveals the spatial room shapes yet maintains a respectful distance to the mostly sensitive exhibits.
The exhibition itself takes the visitor on a 2.7 km long course, that spans across the geological history in the Qatari peninsula’s distant past, introduces its flora and fauna, and illustrates the country’s rapid development from a loose affiliation of nomadic tribes and pearl divers of the past, towards the technology savvy and affluent society of the present. All the while, it focuses on archaeological findings and craftsmanship as well as recent economic and political developments. Furthermore, commissioned artworks from renowned local and international artists are on display.
Powerful Orchestration through Densification and Dissolution
The exhibition is characterized by a sequence of artifacts, models and reproductions in a variety of display cases, complemented by video projections and screens. The visitor moves between visual realms that barely overlap. The lighting concept had to take this progression into account, requiring a powerful orchestration of the exhibits and spaces.
For this reason, a concept of two light layers was developed: General illumination provided by glare controlled adjustable luminaires in the ceiling, and the emphasis of individual exhibits in the display cases by means of integrated and mostly invisible miniature luminaires.
The location of luminaires followed a complex coordinated set of densification and dissolution rules: All light sources had to maintain a specific distance from projections and screens in order to not diminish the effect of the imageries. The ceiling luminaires avoid all show cases which have integral lighting, thus honoring them with an attenuated “event horizon”. Free standing exhibits and highly transparent dematerialized displays, on the other hand, were emphasized with brilliant accentuating light from the ceiling.
The light colour 3,000K is used throughout the museum. In conjunction with the strongly zonal lighting and the predominantly lower illuminance levels, it is sometimes evocative of a nocturnal bonfire.
Bespoke Light from the Ceiling
The ceiling luminaires consist of adjustable spot lights that are recessed into the sculptural suspended ceiling. The light emanates through a small “pinhole” opening in a larger, flush mounted trim ring matching the ceiling colour.
The wide-ranging spatial geometries and the extremely diverse exhibit proportions required diverse photometric properties for the adjustable spot lights. Three different beam angles are used – spot, medium and flood, combined with optical accessories if and where required. These include sculptural lenses for an elliptical light distribution near walls, or honeycomb louvers for strong ceiling inclinations. Furthermore, the fittings have supreme glare control and are hardly apparent in the ceiling perspective.
A real challenge was the placement of the appropriate light photometries in the highly sculptural spaces. Since 2D plans were minimally helpful, each zone and exhibit had to be verified in the virtual 3D BIM model and detail sections. Simultaneously, the goal was to maintain a sense of order in the ceiling layout and to align fittings with gridlines and special reference points wherever possible.
Another particularity is the individual adjustability and dimmability of the luminaires via remote control. In order to address a specific luminaire, the handset connects via infrared control and can then tilt the optic up to +/- 35° and rotate it by +/- 175°. This not only allows for a correction of the light scenography if exhibits are exchanged, but above all provides an enormous simplification of the aiming process. Otherwise, scaffoldings and cherry pickers would require careful positioning to ensure they do not block the light cone being aimed – which is both time consuming and impossible in some instances. As a result, the remote control lighting provides sophisticated and hassle-free adjustment and aiming for all exhibits. This is pleasantly obvious in the luminous ambience.
Concealed Light in the Display Cases
The showcases in the National Museum of Qatar are as diverse as the exhibition spaces themselves. Some rooms become displays in their own right, other configurations intertwine showcases with walls or floors, or the displays become large magazines of shelving that house a multitude of differently sized exhibits. Each lighting solution is therefore carefully adapted to its location and contents.
All lighting equipment inside the show cases are modular: A profile accommodates the through-wiring, the miniature spotlights and linear light inserts are placed according to requirements and aimed accordingly. Other configurations involve luminaires that connect mechanically and electrically to a live rail via magnets.
The path through Gallery 2, for instance, leads into the underwater realm of the marine habitat. A projection designed by the multimedia consultant Ducks, immerses the original sized sea creatures in sunlight infused sea water with its softly rolling waves, as seen by scuba divers in the reef. Invisible to the observer, framing projectors are concealed in the overhead space of the display and precisely accentuate the models without disturbing the light effect of the rippled, moving water surface.
While freely positioned, dematerialized glass cases are solely illuminated through ceiling recessed adjustable spot lights, all displays that form an interface with the architecture, such as ceilings, floors or walls, contain hidden light sources. Such a detail is found in the wall integrated Arthropod display. Here, the country’s native butterflies are lined up in a splendid array. Concealed in the upper and lower cavity is a group of LED miniature spot lights that detail the delicate texture and vibrant colours of the wings.
The biodiversity wall, by contrast, functions like an oversized cabinet. Species of various sizes coexist in modular compartments, which integrate their own concealed linear illumination. It creates a soft breath of light while the accent lighting comes from the ceiling.
The Al Zubarah Trench shows burial objects in a floor cavity enclosed with glass. Hidden in small coves in the display’s cross section are small, pivotable linear LED elements, that emphasize the exhibits on the floor.
Like mannequins in a shop window, the historic festive dresses and jewellery are displayed in a full height showcase. Invisible to the observer, adjustable accent lights are mounted in a channel in the case’s ceiling and elicit manifold textures and colours from the fabrics in spite of the low illuminance levels.
The highlight of the exhibit, however, is the Baroda carpet, embroidered with the finest pearls and gem stones. It is displayed on a sloping surface and protected by a surrounding vitrine that pierces into the ceiling surface. Following its longitudinal flanks are rows of very small spot lights. These apply a layer of discretely overlapping light cones on the precious carpet and allows its materials to sparkle brilliantly in the directional light.
An Impressive Museum Experience for the Visitor
The visitor is thus transported to a journey across 700 million years of natural and art history as well as recent political events in the country of Qatar. The wealth and diversity of the exhibits address guests with most widely spread fields of interest. The quality, sequence and presentation of the exhibits create ever changing themes and involve all senses of the visitors, who are practically absorbed by the exhibition by quality of the abundance of impressions.
The illumination plays a subtle, yet significant part in this. The finely tuned interplay of all components, such as the sparse, but spatially defining daylight, the accentuating ceiling light, the differentiated display case illumination and the magical wall projections of the multimedia designers create a sensory sequence, that resonates with the visitor long past their visit.
