While there is no way to prohibit travel entirely, we may make conscious decisions to lessen the damage our travel has on the environment.
The reason ecotourism matters is that it raises awareness of this. It inspires people to learn about and protect our varied ecosystems, fauna, and cultural traditions.
We hope to have persuaded you that ecotourism is the way of the future.

This is the pinnacle of my photos, folks. My jaguar of a motorcycle, Panda the beloved dog, and the view of Támesis, one of the most breathtaking towns and areas I’ve ever been to— it’s only downhill from here (literally). Tamesis, like many of these little tropical Andean mountain towns, full of friendly people, amazing coffee, colorful country houses, and a plethora of flora and fauna. The people here are standing up against the AngloGold Ashanti mining project, which threatens their clean water sources, surrounding nature, the biodiversity, and their way of life. Mining is like a disease when it involves destroying everything in its path, polluting the rivers with mercury so that the fish can no longer be eaten, and disrupting the balance of ecosystems so that their services are no longer rendered, such as clean water to drink, nourishing soils to grow food, and clean air to breathe. The people of the SW of Antioquia are standing up against it. They are fighting to keep their lands as the country’s source of food, ecotourism destination, regenerative territory and biodiversity hotspot corridor. Awake Tourism Challenge - Innovative startups that are working to advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals
Tourism is resilient. While it has been one of the most impacted sectors by global crisis, it has also demonstrated its potential as a major force of recovery.
Now, with an accelerated digital transformation and technology adoption throughout the tourism value chain, the sector stands out as a leader for responding to the toughest challenges.
At the same time, youth has proven its capacity to come up with technology, social impact, and sustainability solutions. However, they need concrete support to keep their energy and unleash all their projects’ benefits.
For this reason, UNWTO calls for a joint effort amongst stakeholders and launches the Awake Tourism Challenge seeking to find the most innovative startups that are working to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Startups from all walks of life, from all over the world and all economic sectors are invited to participate if meeting the following criteria:
Be innovative in nature providing value-added solutions Be sustainability-driven Be scalable: to have potential for international growth and potential to be applied in corporations and destinations (countries, regions) Be an Early Stage or Series A startup Introduction or adoption of digital and technological elements Have a tested pilot and business plan Have been accelerated before Have a full-time team including at least 2 members under 35 years. Gender balance will be also considered.
UNWTO has identified 6 challenges that that will act as the categories for this programme. As there might be projects able to contribute to more than category, the one in which the positive impact is expected to be stronger should be selected.
Local community involvement: 80% of all people living in ‘extreme poverty’ live in rural communities1 while domestic, rural and eco-tourism have emerged as the most popular travel choices. With a focus on communities, the sector has a great potential to stimulate local economies and improve the economic conditions of low-income and vulnerable populations. Green and blue economies: tourism can be a source of economic opportunities at the same time of protecting natural ecosystems by developing its operations with sustainable infrastructure through more efficient energy, water, and waste management systems. Ecological and Sustainable Capital Creation: sustainable capital has the potential to optimize resource usage, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and also provide a competitive market advantage for businesses. At this point, green investments and sustainable financial mechanisms can boost tourism potential to achieve the SDGs. Tourism Tech for Good: advancements in deep technology have revolutionized the sector, especially since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, by simultaneously improving customer experience and increasing quality of life and wellness for societies, including topics such as accessibility, inclusion, poverty alleviation. Artificial Intelligence, crypto, blockchain, metaverse, NFTs are welcomed in this category. Tourism Education: despite representing 10% of the world’s jobs2 before Covid-19, tourism has faced a challenge in terms of skills development. Indeed, almost 20% of the employed people in selected tourism industries in the European Union had less than primary and lower secondary education in 2018. Furthermore, currently there is no continuous measurement or updated data on skills development and its contribution to creating added value jobs, which are fundamental to advance in this agenda. Women Empowerment: while employing the largest number of women in most regions of the world, they yet tend to be concentrated in the lowest paid and lowest status jobs in the sector. Startups with a gender focus can be an important contributor to equality.

Cabo de la Vela (Cape of sails)
Is a headland in the Guajira Peninsula in Colombia with an adjacent small fishing village. It is a popular ecotourism destination of the Caribbean Region of Colombia.
It is one of the best places for kitesurfing in Colombia. For 355 days a year, it has perfect conditions for both kitesurfing and windsurfing. In fact, it is one of the best places for kitesurfing in Colombia.
This place is really hot so my advice for you guys is to have always a bottle of water for hydration.
There are no fancy hotels so you can find accommodations that are really cheap and informal, you don’t need too much money to visit this place.
The closer city of this amazing place is Riohacha, so if you are traveling from another country you arrived by airplane to Riohacha and you should take a bus to go to Cabo de la Vela.
In Cabo de la Vela the networks connections are unreliable so is better if you go with a map.
If you want to go to a peaceful place to relax and connect with the nature Cabo de la Vela is the best option but if you want to go to have fun or to go to parties, this is not a good option.

Colombia’s Wild Land is Prime for Fly-fishing and Brimming With Adventure
After years of civil battle, a new peace bargain has finally opened the nation's remote interior to durable tourists, making Colombia the hottest adventure location in the world.
Do not forget to shuffle your feet to frighten electrical eels," claims our fishing overview, Dani Herrera, as he wades upstream right into the mirror-clear waters of Colombia's Río Elvita, on the country's eastern flatlands, near the Venezuela border.
< a. href =" https://www.mensjournal.com/travel/the-most-adventurous-ways-to-experience-colombia/" target=" _ blank" data-track-category
=" Article Page". data-track-action= "Tap Interstitial Link ". data-track-label=" https://www.mensjournal.com/travel/the-most-adventurous-ways-to-experience-colombia/" > The Most Adventurous Ways to Experience Colombia Nothing in his voice suggests he's joking, so we follow him, holding our rods overhead with both arms when the river's current f lows as much as our necks. A few hundred feet upriver, we climb onto a sandy financial institution as well as start casting right into the color underneath bushes growing along the banks. Rebekka Redd, an expert fishermen that jumped at the possibility ahead along on exactly what would be her second journey to these waters, tosses the initial actors, and also after just a couple of shots, her line screams as well as she's battling what we've come right here for: peacock bass, a Technicolor beauty that could grow to 20 extra pounds. They are infamous for damaging lines and deal with when they strike, and, as soon as hooked, could take an hour to land. Redd's is only an adolescent-- 5 or 6 pounds-- and she soon has it on land.
Gregg Bleakney< a. href=" https://www.mensjournal.com/?p=291925" target=" _ blank'" data-track-category=" Article Page
". data-track-action=" Tap Interstitial Link". data-track-label =" https://www.mensjournal.com/?p=291925" > The Adventurer ' s Guide to the Catskills Next off up is Bruce Mazur, a
close buddy of mine and lifetime angler, who rapidly hooks and also lands a second, larger one." All that stuff you learn throughout the years regarding sneaking up on the fish as well as aiming to fool them with ideal casts-- none of it matters here," Bruce says, wondering. "This is feral fishing, wild. You blast it available and hang on tight."
The Adventurer's Guide to the Catskills
After Bruce comes Juan Carlos Lenz, the software entrepreneur and also fly-fishing fanatic that brought us all together. After a few graceful throws, his line is humming and he's heaving versus one more fish. By the end of the afternoon, we'll have landed greater than a dozen monster peacocks. Also I, a fly-fishing neophyte, hook one. Lenz grins when he returns from releasing his catch, a 13-pounder he dealt with for a scant 10 mins. He beams as well as claims merely, "Colombia."
You could fish for peacock bass from Florida to Brazil, Panama to Singapore, but until recently it was almost impossible to go after the fish in Colombia, even though the nation's rivers are brimming with them. For years, the eastern half of the nation, a spiderweb of streams toppling down from the Andes to the Orinoco and Amazon rivers, was controlled by separatist FARC rebels. This wild land is balmy as well as jungled and also suitable for concealing, as well as guerrillas and medication traffickers drove most Colombians from the region. It had not been just in the east, either: The threat of dealing with and kidnapping made traveling outside of Bogotá, Medellín, and other major cities too harmful for years.
With his angling exploits, Lenz met Daniel Herrera, a board member of the largest fishing club in Colombia. The business, Wild Luxury, is constructing premium lodges in 5 locations around the country that will supply forest hikes, bird-watching, horseback flights, natural springs for swimming, as well as, of training course, angling. The potential for sport fishing in Colombia parallels its tourism potential customers as a whole. < a. href=" https://www.mensjournal.com/?p=296541" target =" _ space "data-track-category="
Article Page ". data-track-action=" Tap Interstitial Link". data-track-label=" https://www.mensjournal.com/?p=296541" > How to Spend the Ultimate Long Weekend in Dublin That's the first thing you find out in Colombia: absolutely nothing here is ever as uncomplicated as it shows up. As we damage down rods in the dark after angling, a pair of Toyota Hiluxes holler into the building in a cloud of dirt as well as headlights to transfer us to El Recreo. Dani tells us that El Recreo's lodges will be prepared for business in two weeks, when we see them the next day, the thatched-roof frameworks are still lacking floors and plumbing and look like they can be months away from their (surely stunning) coating.
Instead, we camp on mosquito internet-- covered foam cushions on the patio at the old grange, where we meet 34-year-old Carlos Restrepo, among Wild Luxury's major financiers as well as proprietor of the 64,000-acre ranch. Restrepo, that camps along with us, informs a rags-to-riches tale concerning his increase, finishing with him at the helm of a successful aircraft-leasing organisation. Without bush aircrafts, there would be no fishing in Colombia. That goes with tourism throughout the nation: While the hazard of kidnappings is what maintained tourists off the roads also just a couple of years earlier, since that risk has actually vanished, it's the absence of genuine highways and the excessive travel times that make it essential to fly practically anywhere you go. After 2 days on the Elvita, we hop aboard a Piper Arrow for a three-hour flight to La Macarena to fish the Río Guayabero.
On the prowl for payers or vampire fish( imagined listed below), so called because, well … simply look. Gregg Bleakney Its proximity to two nationwide parks is turning it right into a fledgling ecotourism destination, La Macarena was the seat of power for the FARC guerrillas throughout the battle. The town is back in federal government hands, but the vestiges of the strife-- AK-toting soldiers patrolling the street edges and infantry boats on the Río Guayabero-- are still visible. Also as the FARC rebels have taken in right into the political system, several Colombians can't fail to remember the wrongs devoted during the battle.
We electric motor an hour upriver in 40-foot-long canoes to a standard lodge called El Raudal, where Wild Luxury plans to construct a collection of contemporary cabins. In the river below, visitors will cast for payaras, or vampire fish, which Dani claims have bones like plates of shield, saber tooth-- design fangs, and also a strike extra harsh compared to lightning.

The lodge manager, José Rubio, says that the Ministry of Environment recently changed the rules that once permitted fishing up the canyon. The action was targeted at suppressing unlawful business trawling, however it additionally practically banned sport angling, also. Herrera as well as a local ecotourism team are appealing the legislation in hopes of gaining an exemption for catch-and-release angling, but the situation is fluid.
" It's like the Wild West," Lenz states. "There's whatever available right here and also everyone is rushing to assert a stake, as well as that causes both terrific points as well as to new troubles. We have to begin someplace."
With our assumptions muted by the brand-new constraints, we clamber to the river, where the first half-hour of spreading seems to bear out the overfishing. Initially, we catch absolutely nothing. After that, simply as discouragement is setting in, a spot of the river surface area the dimension of a VW starts to steam and also fume across the channel. Fist-size baitfish blow up from the water like popcorn, followed sometimes by the silvery flash of a payara, teeth scorching. Extra frequently compared to not one of those vampires will devour it if you're quick sufficient to toss your fly into the roiling mess. The energy is manic during these boils. It's impossible to toss out your line as well as strip it back rapidly sufficient, over as well as over once again until something hits. Once hooked, the fish rise and also leap as well as pirouette on top of the water as if amazed.
Casting for Giants: Fly-Fishing for Monsters with Oliver White
Redd is the first to snag one, and she electric motors off in the boat to offer the fish extra room to run. Hers will certainly be the greatest the group lands, a 25-pound payara with fangs virtually the dimension of bananas. One strikes Bruce's line, and he sobs out like he's been tasered. The battle is horrendous, like 30 mins of flying a kite in a storm.
" Oh, my shoulder!" Bruce bellyaches after we transform the fish loose. "That's like standing in a dark space waiting on a Doberman to tear your arm off."
Still, he smooths his fly, strips out line, and also casts for one more. In Colombia, where rebels are appearing of the forest darkness for the initial time in a generation, politics are as steady as they've been in decades, and the tourist sector is finally acquiring grip, you need to fish while the angling excels.

Long live mass tourism?
More often, people tend to not visit busy tourist attractions anymore. Popular destinations in Europe start to get overcrowded and tourists notice this. Besides the cities becoming busier day by day, it can also be noted that there is much waste lying around the streets. It seems there is a lack of control to get rid of the waste efficiently. Luckily, more and more people visit places that are not so touristy. An upcoming trend nowadays is ecotourism. This type of tourism revolves around the maintenance of nature, culture and the locals. In the end, the future generations should also be able to travel the same way.
Tumblr media
The most polluting means of transport is still the airplane. In the Netherlands, this transportation mode is responsible for 10% of its environmental damage. It is usually advised to take a train as transportation mode, as this is less polluting. If you do decide to take an airplane, it might be good to know to choose a low-budget airline, as they are usually better occupied and fly less. In order to pollute the air at a minimum level, it is also advised to take a direct flight.
We as Campspace strongly believe to push the trend of ecotourism forward. For example, we offer a cool campspace in Colombia that’s all about ecotourism. This campspace is part of a project that takes care of restoring flora and fauna in the surroundings of its area. You’re able to set up your tent yourself and even work with current projects taking place at the campspace. Besides, you’re also able to relax at the beach or take a walk in the forest.

Top 17 Places to Travel in 2017
17 Places to Travel in 2017
We've finally put the [crazy] year of 2016 behind us and it's time to refresh our annual travel bucket lists! It's time to get our planners out and start making moves.
I have a good feeling about travel in 2017 because so many great destinations all around the globe are really pushing efforts to make tourism more accessible for visitors. We're seeing a rise in trends with sustainable travel, ecotourism, wellness travel, and much more.
Whatever your travel style is, I think there is one thing that we can all agree on after last year, and that's the importance of taking care of ourselves--mentally, emotionally, and physically. Travel can certainly be an aide for each of these things and help guide your path along the way.
Contrary to my normal desire for the urban landscapes (don't worry, there's still quite a few cities in here), I was really inspired by the natural world in pursuing this year's inspirational bucket list for you. So get your passports ready and let's dive into this year's 17 Places to Travel in 2017!
 1. Cape Town, South Africa
Cape Town is really coming in hot on the travel scene for its fresh combination of lush nature plus contemporary art. They have the iconic landscapes with the gorgeous mountain tops and urban valleys that we all have seen in photos, but the food and art scene is also really on the rise here. Looking forward to seeing what else this city has to offer!
 2. Asheville, USA
Asheville has been topping the charts for places to visit in 2017 across multiple travel sites. It's another urban meets nature destination that is right in the heart of North Carolina's mountain region. Come here for the views and stay for the historic architecture, hip art scene, and luxurious getaways (like the Biltmore Estate shown above!).
 3. Seychelles
Is the beach calling your name this year? I know I can hear it... Maybe it's time to step up your beach game this year and head to the secluded, exotic islands of Seychelles, which is just off the coast of Africa's eastern shore. It puts a lot of other beach destinations to shame with its impeccable white sandy beaches and crystal blue waters. Perfect for couples or families who want to escape to paradise!
 4. Montreal, Canada
I told you I wasn't going to be short on cities for this list! There are so, so many reasons to head to Canada right now--the biggest being the favorable exchange rate for US citizens. Montreal is topping the list of Canadian cities to check out in 2017 for it's flawless combination of Old World meets New World. You have the charm of the old city (and not to mention that everyone speaks French so it feels like you're in Europe without the cost) mixed with the hustle and bustle of the modern city--complete with skyscrapers and all. The culinary scene here deserves a serious shout out too! Great for foodies, couples, solo travelers, and families.
 5. Sri Lanka
Another secluded destination for those of you who want to indulge in a little eco-tourism. Sri Lanka has recently been coming on many traveler's radars for its diverse landscapes that the country has to offer. You can find white sandy beaches, rainforests and plains, ancient ruins and temples (some dating back to over 2000 years), and luxurious-yet-sustainable resorts.
 6. Botswana
If you're craving some adventure in 2017, head to Botswana for a true taste of wildlife and nature for a trip you'll never forget. Conservation groups and philanthropic efforts have done an amazing job in recent years at preserving the land and enforcing antipoaching efforts. You can take a safari to admire the incredible wild animals in their natural habitats during the day, and retreat back to your eco-friendly and sustainable accommodations by night.
 7. Hamburg, Germany
This German city has been capturing the attention of architectural lovers in recent years with the arrival of many new buildings and structures being added near the riverfront. 2017 isn't going to see a slowdown in expansion. Think of Hamburg a la Williamsburg, Brooklyn right before it became what it is now...
 8. Jackson Hole, USA
On August 21st of this year, there will be a total solar eclipse visible to parts of the United States for the first time in almost 4 decades. To get a prime view of this phenomenon, it's best to head out of the city lights and into the rural areas of the country to see it. Jackson Hole would be a perfect destination for this because of the quiet and serene surroundings of this destination. Plus you have plenty of other outdoor activities to keep you occupied throughout the rest of your stay!
 9. Maldives
Environmental experts and scientists have been noting that the picturesque islands of the Maldives might be endanger of sinking because of climate change, so there's really no better time than now to experience it while we still have them! Escape here for an unforgettable tropical getaway where you can indulge in all the luxuries that the destination has to offer. Blue lagoons, extensive coral reefs, pristine beaches, and eco-friendly hotels makes this a perfect destination for couples looking to have a romantic time together in paradise.
 10. Stockholm, Sweden
Scandinavian countries are definitely having a moment in the travel world right now. Sweden has been making efforts to have tourism become more affordable and accessible to foreign visitors with things like dropping heft museum prices and entrance fees. The exchange rate has also been more favorable here than it has in recent years, making it an ideal time to visit gorgeous cities like Stockholm.
 11. Australia
While most people think to visit Sydney when they travel to Australia, there are also plenty of other areas to explore while you're "down under." If you're into scuba diving and exploring nature, you might want to consider taking a trip to see the Great Barrier Reef, which has very sadly been experiencing extreme coral bleaching due to climate change and traditionally different weather patterns. There's also cities, like Perth, that are experiencing a new wave of foodie hot spots and trendy cocktail bars.
 12. Cartagena, Colombia
Another romantic and charming city with a historic Old Town, cobblestone streets, and vibrant colored buildings. Doesn't get much better than that! Cartagena is a beautiful destination for travelers looking to experience a tropical vibe with relaxing beaches, charming streets and town squares, and colonial buildings lining the Old Town streets. It's a great alternative for people who love the vibes of the Caribbean islands, but want to get a taste of South America too.
 13. Colmar, France
If you saw my list of Fairy Tale Destination to Put on Your Bucket List, you already know that Colmar is at the top of that list. The city of Colmar proves that Paris isn't the only beautiful destination in France. This little fairy tale town in the northeastern region of France is rumored to be the inspiration for Disney's Beauty and the Beast (not confirmed, but you can't help but wonder once you start seeing the pictures of the town--especially the fountain). You've got cobblestone streets, medieval and Renaissance-era architecture, an adorable canal with unforgettable views, and wine country right around the corner.
 14. Dubrovnik, Croatia
Thanks to Game of Thrones and The Yacht Week, Croatia has come on a lot of traveler's radars in recent years. This boom has encouraged the city of Dubrovnik to really push tourism efforts to attract more and more visitors. Dubrovnik's limestone paved streets, massive stone walls around the city, exclusive beaches, and incredible historic architecture makes this European city a dreamy destination. It's no wonder this was the site of "King's Landing" in the popular HBO series--it's totally fit for a king!
 15. Canary Islands
Just off the coast of Africa is a little group of Spanish islands known as the Canary Islands. While these islands don't get nearly enough attention as they should (though they probably will in years to come), they have been a popular destination for surfing enthusiasts and mainland locals who are looking to get a taste of the island life. If surfing, seeing black lava and white sand beaches, and general island living is your thing, maybe you should add this destination to your list!
 16. Edinburgh, Scotland
What is not to love about this charming Scottish capital? You have the medieval influence and architecture of the Old Town, alongside the elegant charm and Georgian influence of the New Town. The trendy food scene and up and coming art scene always makes for plenty of entertainment as well. Plus, after Brexit last year, the exchange rates in the UK are all much more favorable for tourists than they have been in recent years.
 17. St. Augustine, USA
I'm calling it right now that St. Augustine will become one of the new, hot (literally and figuratively perhaps) Southern destinations this year. We saw how popular Charleston and Savannah became in recent years and I think that this charming Floridian city is not too far behind. Old Spanish architecture, cobblestone streets, and charming beaches to relax make this another domestic destination to add to the bucket list for 2017.
What places are you looking to travel in 2017? Is it somewhere near or far?
Comment below with more suggestions, or take a look at last year's list for more inspiration!
