how come pretty much all the male lions have names, but so few lionesses do? at least it seems that way from your posts (not hating on you or anything, i'm aware you're not the one in charge of it. just something that caught my attention). are they not worth naming too?
in south africa (i.e. sabi sands, kruger national park) there’s less of this naming culture compared to places like the serengeti-ngorongoro ecosystem and maasai mara. tanzanian and kenyan lions, you’ll find guides/photographers/lodges naming even the cubs. the famous olonkera got his name as a youngin’ because he was found to be quite tolerant of his younger siblings, hence his name which means something like “baby sitter.” in the marsh pride, there’s the lionesses bibi and pamoja and charm & the rest. in botswana, ma di tau and silver eye were made famous by the jouberts. in namibia, the lionesses alpha, bravo and charlie are known for their devouring seals over land animals. et cetera, et cetera. you’ll find this naming culture also extends to non leonine big cats in other places in the world too: machli, collarwali, and their descendants come to mind. the first machli in particular is the progenitor of “the lady of the lakes” bloodline - an unofficial title given to tigresses who control the lakes region in ranthambore national park.
when it comes to south african lions, personal names are less important. it’s why i get so confused at times when i hear people talk about “(insert pride name) young male” or “(insert pride name) female” because there are so many lions who belong to the same natal prides and bloodlines. my favorite pride, the tsalala pride, is made up of one lioness and she has no name at all and neither did her late mother. people tend to differentiate the girls by nicknames like xyz princess, xyz mother, or some other instead.
as for why south african male lions seemingly get personal names more often than lionesses - and this is just my opinion - i think it’s just the simple fact that people are more interested in males than females. not only that but south african national parks & lodges are probably the most popular out of all the lion safari parks in africa and india. there’s a reason why not just male lions but south african male lions like the mapogos, majingilanes, west street males, avocas, birmingham boys, and them have a large following. more interest in males means a closer perceived connection to them than females, which means more drive to give them personal names over their mothers and sisters and daughters. for example, i can name the mapogo boys off the top of my head but i can’t name their spartan sisters from the same natal pride.

One of India's most well-known wild tigresses passed away of old age; her name was Collarwali and she mothered a record-breaking 29 cubs - 25 of which she successfully raised to maturity. As well as being beloved by tourists (who called her "mataram", "respected mother") she was noted for encouraging her cubs to be independent/hunt for themselves. It reminded me of IHS, just proves Vicious is not the great mother she thinks she is by refusing to teach Hope, against Clever's advice.
Tigers and lions are very good parents. Lionesses will even attack and bully family members to remind them that a world of hurt is coming their way if they even look at their cubs wrong. It's also why Vicious's behaviour towards Hope is treated as so abhorrent by both of her sisters: it even goes against what they are by nature. - RJ

As I was going through my archives I found this picture of the world renowned tigress named Collarwali who has given birth to a total of about 27-30 cubs. I saw her in April 2019 when she was sighted after giving birth to her last litter. She is now old and has reduced her territory to a great extent. And I’m eager to see her in October once the parks open 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Among humans, being a “tiger mother♀ ” means that you give your children a really strict education. This image doesn’t correspond entirely to the role for tigers. Here are 8 of their characteristics that will doubtless surprise you! 1) Tigresses isolate themselves to deliver their cubs. This is the main reason why no birth has ever been observed in the wild. 2) Mothers take sole charge of caring for and educating their progeny. The male is present only in the mating face, although it sometimes shares its prey with other females and their offspring. 3) Tiger moms are very protective. Indeed, they monitor their cubs very closely and don’t hesitate to attack if needed. They have even been known to kill a male tiger — including the father — when it has represented a danger to the young felines. 4) Tigresses abandon their cubs if they don’t manage to drink their milk shortly after birth. Young tigers have to follow their mother’s heat to move closer to her in order to feed, otherwise, the mom will consider that they are stillborn. 5) Tigresses don’t separate themselves from their young, for more than a few days to hunt, until they definitively leave the family group (aged between 18 and 36 months). It’s during this crucial period that young tigers learn to hunt and to become independent. 6) Tiger mothers provide a clean environment for their litter, by ensuring that no food or manure enters their shelter. Furthermore, they regularly clean their cubs by licking them, which has beneficial effects on their health. 7) Mothers mate again only after the departure of the young. Males are the first to leave their moms, followed by the females. This waiting period will be shorter if the tigress has lost her litter. 8) Tiger moms need your support to protect their cubs, particularly from poaching and habitat loss. The species now has no more than 4 000 wild individuals and the mortality rate is very high. #tiger #mptourism #mptfs #bandavgarh #wildlife #wildlifephotography #catsofinstagram #india #pench #collarwali #animal #earth #tigerstrips #bigcats #bigcat (at Pench National Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4iT2xRgK_o/?igshid=9234bztpb57g

Pm Modi Talks on Wildlife Conservation in ‘Mann Ki Baat’ Programmed
Prime Minister Narendra Modi exudes sincerity of purpose and love for wildlife conservation, a quality that anyone who has followed him through his words and deeds over the years has seen.
PM Modi has come out as a real promoter of harmonious coexistence between humans and wildlife in multiple episodes of his monthly radio shows 'Mann Ki Baat.' Especially when he mentioned that India is home to 500 species of migratory birds and asked for suggestions on how the country could help preserve these habitats.
Whether it was his childlike wonder when he shared information on a rare fish species found in Meghalaya or his blissfully narrated the heartwarming conservation efforts for Assam's rare turtles, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's devotion to the welfare of wildlife was well known to the radio program's listeners.
In India, the spirit of the Prime Minister's comments has been turned into action at all levels of wildlife conservation throughout the last eight years.
Consider the following: We have increased forest covering by over 20 lakh hectares, or the equivalent of 15 Jim Corbett National Parks, in the previous seven years. The tiger population has increased by more than 30% in just four years, thanks to a 62 percent increase in tiger conservation funding over the last eight years.
Consider mega-road projects that are being constructed with wildlife in mind. Even though the project would cost more with these modifications, the national highway going through the wildlife corridor in Kanha-Pench Tiger Reserve will include three flyovers to ensure safe passage for the animals.
Furthermore, the government's efforts have resulted in a significant increase in the number of 'protected areas,' and with it, a positive increase in the population of Asiatic lions and leopards.
PM Modi reflects the innate regard and admiration that Indians have for wildlife in general. It is seen in the life of traditional women who work as forest rangers in Gujarat's Gir National Park and Madhya Pradesh's Pench Tiger Reserve. Women run tourist-oriented enterprises in Pench, making them the economic backbone of their families.
Another illustration of our people's innate connection with j is the lovely funeral paid to the famed tigress Collarwali in Madhya Pradesh lately. This is what has historically distinguished India from other cultures and civilizations.
