Back home and determined to shake off the recent doldrums.
Long story, but right now my physical health has thrown a real curveball.
Diabetic control - nope. Massive lows now rather than massive highs. But still mostly high.
Mucus thing - off the charts. Seriously.
Sleep - yeah, I've heard of that. Wonder what it's like!
Anyway, I'm easing myself into life as usual.
Short walk (30 mins) at 6am. Followed by a lower body/core home workout.
Then breakfast. My apple, cinnamon and mixed nuts (olive oil and sea salt added). Collagen filter coffee. I've missed my machine while I've been away in the motorhome, lol.
And I'm back to my modified version of ketobiotic.
That's a macro breakdown recommended by Mindy Pelz, who I have read a few books by, and I'm on her FB community group.
She recommends up to 50g net carbs and a minimum of 60% fat. She recommends much less protein than I prefer to have, so that's where the modification comes in.
I am making sure that I include fruit and veg (polyphenols for the win), but I'm not having masses of it.
I'm also trying very hard to keep that fibre up.
I have been using psyllium husk. Excellent thing for adding to my daily diet. I am now trying inulin powder. Another good source of fibre.
I've still got quite a lot of psyllium left, so I've mixed the two together, to get a double benefit, using both at once.
Oh yes, and if you notice the scratches on my leg, that's the fight I had with a very dense part of woodland on my last walk on holiday. Brambles vs me. I call it a draw, because they didn't stop me!
Back to normal 15hr fasting after dinner.
I answered a really nice message here this morning. And I guess today's post is one of those times I'm doing what I talked about in my reply.
This is my individual journey of health. Not every day is fabulous. But neither is every day tough.
Most usually somewhere in between those two markers.

L Lysine Amino Acids
A Comprehensive Guide to Their Benefits
L-lysine, an essential amino acid, plays a vital role in various physiological functions, including eye health, immune support, muscle growth, and collagen production. This article delves into the advantages of L Lysine Amino Acid and their significance for overall well-being.
Understanding L-Lysine: An Essential Nutrient
L-lysine is classified as an essential amino acid, meaning the body cannot synthesize it and must obtain it from diet or supplements. It serves as a building block for protein synthesis and aids in the production of enzymes, hormones, and antibodies. L Lysine Amino Acid are particularly crucial for individuals who follow vegetarian or vegan diets, as plant-based sources may not always provide adequate amounts.
Enhancing Eye Health with L-Lysine
The role of L-lysine in eye health is often overlooked, yet it is indispensable for maintaining ocular function. This amino acid supports collagen formation, which is a key component of the eye's structure. By promoting healthy tissue integrity, L Lysine Amino Acid help reduce the risk of conditions associated with aging eyes, such as macular degeneration.
Lip Care and Skin Health Benefits
L-lysine is widely recognized for its effectiveness in lip care, particularly in managing cold sores caused by the herpes simplex virus. It inhibits viral replication, providing relief and reducing outbreak frequency. Moreover, L Lysine Amino Acid contribute to skin elasticity and hydration by supporting collagen production, making them essential for maintaining healthy, youthful skin.
Strengthening Bones and Joints
Bone health depends on the availability of essential nutrients like calcium and collagen, and L-lysine plays a pivotal role in their metabolism. It enhances calcium absorption in the intestines and minimizes its excretion through urine, thus supporting bone density. Additionally, L Lysine Amino Acid aid in collagen synthesis, vital for joint and cartilage health.
Boosting the Immune System
A robust immune system requires the presence of sufficient amino acids to produce infection-fighting proteins. L-lysine enhances the body’s natural defenses by promoting antibody production and reducing inflammation. Incorporating L Lysine Amino Acid into your regimen can help bolster resistance against infections and seasonal illnesses.
Muscle Growth and Repair
For those engaging in physical activities or strength training, muscle recovery and growth are critical. L-lysine aids in muscle repair by facilitating protein synthesis and preventing muscle breakdown. Athletes and fitness enthusiasts can benefit from L Lysine Amino Acid to support their performance and recovery goals.
Vegetarian Collagen Support
Vegetarians often face challenges in maintaining optimal collagen levels due to the absence of animal-based sources in their diet. L-lysine, in combination with other nutrients, assists in collagen formation, ensuring skin, bones, and connective tissues remain healthy. Supplementing with L Lysine Amino Acid is an excellent way for vegetarians to meet their collagen production needs.
How to Incorporate L-Lysine into Your Routine
L-lysine supplements are available in various forms, including capsules, tablets, and powders. A serving size of 1000mg per day is commonly recommended for general health benefits. L Lysine Amino Acid are versatile and can be taken as part of a balanced diet or alongside other nutritional supplements for enhanced results.
Conclusion
L-lysine is a powerful amino acid with a wide range of health benefits, from improving eye health and supporting the immune system to aiding in muscle growth and collagen production. Regular supplementation of L Lysine Amino Acid ensures that your body gets the support it needs for optimal functioning. Whether for skin, bones, or overall health, this essential nutrient is a valuable addition to your wellness routine.

Pharmacist here 🙋🏻♀️
Collagen powders don't do anything because you digest them and that doesn't do much for your skin since you don't apply them topically
I recommend using different things to get that youthful, bouncy skin: make sure you use a retinol (to get the best result, get a tretnoin from your dermatologist, they're stronger) use a hydrating serum and ALWAYS use sunscreen
(I am not a doctor, please consult a derm if you have any skin issues and I know this is the most basic advice ever, but I promise consistency is the key)
thanks for clarifying bestie!

Collagen Supplement Supplements - Health
A Youthful Boost: My Review of Collagen Supplement - Health
I've been using the Collagen Supplement - Health for a few months now, and I'm impressed with the results I've seen. As someone who prioritizes a healthy lifestyle, I'm always on the lookout for ways to support my body from the inside out. Collagen is a naturally occurring protein that plays a vital role in skin health, joint function, and overall well-being, and I was curious to see if supplementing could make a difference.
Easy Integration into My Routine
The first thing that appealed to me about this supplement was its ease of use. It comes in a convenient powder form that dissolves easily into my morning smoothie. There's no weird taste or texture, and it blends seamlessly with the other ingredients. This makes it a breeze to incorporate into my daily routine, which is essential for long-term consistency.
Noticeable Improvement in Skin Health
One of the most significant changes I've noticed is the improvement in my skin health. My skin feels more hydrated and plump, with a noticeable reduction in fine lines and wrinkles. I also get compliments on my complexion more often, which is always a confidence booster! While everyone's body reacts differently, I believe the collagen supplement has played a key role in giving my skin a more youthful appearance.
Supporting Joint Health and Mobility
Another benefit I've experienced is improved joint health and mobility. I used to have occasional stiffness, especially after exercise. Since incorporating the collagen supplement, that stiffness has become less frequent and less severe. It's much easier to move around freely and participate in my daily activities without discomfort. This is a significant advantage, especially as I age and want to maintain an active lifestyle.
A High-Quality Supplement I Trust
I appreciate that the Collagen Supplement - Health uses high-quality ingredients. The company provides clear information about the source and type of collagen used, which gives me peace of mind. Additionally, the supplement is free from common allergens and artificial additives, which is important to me.
Overall, a Positive Experience
Overall, I've had a very positive experience with the Collagen Supplement - Health. It's easy to integrate into my routine, delivers noticeable benefits for my skin and joints, and is made with high-quality ingredients. If you're looking for a natural way to support your overall health and well-being, I highly recommend giving this supplement a try. Just remember, consistency is key! It took a few months for me to see the full effects, so be patient and let your body reap the rewards.

Do you have recommendations for good brands of collagen?
My favorite brand is Great Lakes, but their prices have become completely insane over the last few years. Neocell is good. Gotta say I do NOT like Dr Axe's ancient nutrition collagen, although I love ancient apothecary oils. The last few times I bought collagen, I just got what was on huge discount through an Amazon discount group I'm in, so I haven't been very brand loyal since GL's prices skyrocketed. If you have a local bulk food store, they sometimes have more reasonable prices than health food stores. I'd recommend just doing a little reading into what kind of collagen might be best for you (I'm not terribly educated on them all) and go from there.
Also I've always done powders, not tablets or capsules. I have no idea if that makes a difference 😅

Ever since I first saw this post and went "uh, whut" and then "yeah, no, that makes sense, gotta be beef broth though" I've been wanting to try this, but summertime ain't the time for making broth, so yeah. Didn't get around to it until this weekend.
(My research online suggests that broth chocolated is primarily enjoyed by keto ladies who extol its health benefits. I'm not into that. I drink hot chocolate for pleasure, and pleasure alone.)
Based on beef bone broth, made with marrow bones, toasted tomato past, star aniseed, Tellicherry pepper, cayenne, bay leaves, onions and celery. Left out the garlic I'd have normally added bc although I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have shone through enough to interfere with the end product it just didn't feel right.
Mixed the finished broth with a small piece of dark chocolate, cocoa powder, milk, cream, sugar, and spiced it with cinnamon, vanilla, and nutmeg.
It was very good; rich, indulgent, with the broth adding excellent umami depths to the whole thing. 10+ hours to make a cup of hot chocolate is a long time, though, so I wouldn't recommend it unless you actually enoy making broth in the first place. I love it, so this whole thing was a delight. (I mean, you can buy ready made high quality broth, but to me that's just... not very sexy. Not sumptuous. Something a keto lady would do probably.)
I'm thinking you should be able to make the hot chocolate with bourbon and red wine for a cold season cocktail, which I might be trying later this week with the broth I've got left. Because of the high collagen and fat contents of bone broth, it's not suitable for cold drinks, which is a shame because I'm intrigued now.
#didn't know i needed this in my life#i'm open to trying it with pork broth too#chicken broth... doesn't feel right to me#food

Not gonna moan about the few physical issues bothering me this morning.
Nope, not today. Move aside whinger, make space for the winner......
Up and out for my hormone boosting morning walk. Just that 30 minutes out in the early light does SO much good. Sets me up for a good day, no matter what else happens.
Full winter protocol for the first time in a while. Ugh. Don't leave me, summer!!!
My usual "power up" breakfast back in the house, by the light of the big window.
Dessicated coconut
Sunflower/chia seeds
Seed protein powder (100% ground chia/sunflower seeds)
Cacao powder
Apple
Olive oil
Mixed up with boiled water
Coffee with collagen, creatine, inulin and coconut "milk".
Little stick of liquorice root
Then into our little home gym. I'm very fortunate to have the equipment at home, but you don't need stuff like this to get fitter, stronger and boost literally every part of your system inside and out! Bodyweight and resistance bands are incredible tools!
We all have different targets, goals, fitness levels, health concerns, etc.
My goal now is strength. Muscle endurance. Power.
For me, that means heavy weights.
Another pyramid structure with this session. Ending with the highest weight, working to failure.
Then a high knee sprint for that five interval finisher.
I had the ENT consultant appointment this afternoon, plus a few other chores while we were out in the car, so that was my only fitness for today.
But that was enough. I definitely put the work in for that hour!
Nice coconut cappucino treat at the hospital costa.
And yes, she gave me my THIRD nasal endoscopy. Oh, happy days 🤔😪.
It's mostly a psychological thing. She has recommended I talk to my GP about being referred for CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy). She has also given me a course of treatment to hopefully clear up the reflux.
She says I have mild reflux. But she believes the main problem might be my perceived reaction. The physical state, in terms of what's actually there, is not serious enough to incur my reaction to it.
The consultant was lovely. Really listened to me.
I remain optimistic and hopeful!

Dietary Supplements: A Comprehensive Guide to Health and Nutrition
What Are Dietary Supplements?
Dietary supplements are products designed to enhance overall health and fill nutritional gaps in one’s diet. They come in various forms, including tablets, capsules, powders, liquids, and gummies, and contain vitamins, minerals, herbs, amino acids, and other essential nutrients.
Why Are Dietary Supplements Important?
Even with a balanced diet, it can be difficult to obtain all the essential nutrients required for optimal health. Factors such as busy lifestyles, dietary restrictions, and age-related deficiencies make dietary supplements a vital addition to maintaining well-being.
Types of Dietary Supplements

2. Check Quality and Certification
Look for third-party testing (e.g., NSF, USP, GMP-certified).
Avoid supplements with artificial additives and fillers.
3. Read Labels Carefully
Check for dosage recommendations and ingredient transparency.
Be cautious of high doses, which may cause adverse effects.
4. Consider Bioavailability
Some forms of supplements are better absorbed than others (e.g., ferrous bisglycinate for iron is better absorbed than ferrous sulfate).
Potential Risks and Side Effects of Dietary Supplements
While dietary supplements offer numerous benefits, improper use can lead to negative effects such as:
Overdosing on vitamins and minerals (e.g., excess Vitamin A can be toxic).
Interactions with medications (e.g., St. John’s Wort can reduce the efficacy of prescription drugs).
Digestive issues from excessive use of certain supplements like magnesium or probiotics.
Best Practices for Taking Dietary Supplements
1. Follow Recommended Dosages
Stick to manufacturer guidelines or a healthcare provider’s recommendations.
Avoid self-medicating with high-dose supplements.
2. Combine Supplements with a Balanced Diet
Supplements are meant to complement, not replace, a nutritious diet.
Eat a variety of whole foods for the best nutritional benefits.
3. Be Aware of Storage Conditions
Store supplements in a cool, dry place to maintain potency.
Some supplements, like probiotics and fish oil, require refrigeration.
Who Should Consider Taking Dietary Supplements?
Pregnant and breastfeeding women (e.g., folic acid, iron, DHA).
Elderly individuals (e.g., calcium, vitamin D, B12).
Athletes and active individuals (e.g., protein, creatine, BCAAs).
People with restricted diets (e.g., vegans may need B12, iron, and omega-3s).
Individuals with medical conditions (e.g., osteoporosis patients may need calcium and vitamin D).
Conclusion
Dietary supplements play a crucial role in supporting health and wellness, filling in nutritional gaps where needed. However, choosing the right supplements requires careful consideration, quality checks, and professional guidance. When used correctly, they can significantly improve energy levels, immunity, digestion, and overall well-being.

A Bitter Fight: Scurvy and the Quest for Health

In the vast world of ancient remedies and healing traditions, Naturopathy in Prayagraj shines as a beacon of holistic well-being. Rooted in India, Ayurveda views health as a delicate balance between mind, body, and spirit. While Ayurveda has long been celebrated for its preventive and healing powers, it is fascinating to explore how its principles can align with modern understanding of diseases like scurvy—a condition that plagued sailors and explorers for centuries.
What is Scurvy?
Scurvy is a disease caused by a severe deficiency of vitamin C (ascorbic acid), an essential nutrient our bodies cannot produce on their own. Without enough vitamin C, the body struggles to produce collagen, a protein crucial for healthy skin, blood vessels and bones.
Historically, scurvy was a menace, especially for sailors who spent months at sea without fresh fruits and vegetables. This condition became so common that it earned the nickname “sailor’s disease.”
Symptoms of Scurvy
Scurvy symptoms include fatigue, weakness, and irritability as early signs. Over time, it leads to swollen, bleeding gums, loose teeth, and slow wound healing. Skin bruises easily, and small reddish spots appear due to fragile blood vessels. Joint pain, muscle weakness, and anemia are also common. An Ayurvedic doctor in Prayagraj might recommend natural remedies to support recovery and strengthen immunity. In severe cases, scurvy can result in swollen limbs, compromised immunity, and even life-threatening complications, highlighting the critical role of vitamin C in tissue repair and collagen production.
Severe Complications
Untreated scurvy can lead to severe complications, as the body becomes unable to repair tissues effectively. Advanced scurvy may cause anemia, organ damage, and swelling in the legs. Prolonged neglect can result in heart problems, internal bleeding, organ failure and in extreme cases, death. In Ayurvedic hospital in Prayagraj, such issues reflect extreme dosha imbalance, requiring immediate intervention with nourishing, rejuvenating foods and lifestyle changes.
Scurvy in Infants
Scurvy in infants is a rare but serious condition caused by a deficiency of vitamin C. Infants are particularly vulnerable if they are not fed adequate amounts of vitamin C-rich foods or formula. Symptoms may include Irritability and fussiness, pain and discomfort especially in the legs, poor appetite and weight loss, swelling and bleeding gums, pale skin and easy bruising and a weakened immune system. An Ayurvedic treatment center in Prayagraj can be a valuable resource for holistic support, but it is essential to address scurvy with proper medical care. In severe cases, scurvy can lead to bone pain, anemia and even death. It is important for infants to receive vitamin C through breast milk, fortified formula or vitamin C-rich foods once they start solids. Early diagnosis and treatment with vitamin C supplementation can fully reverse the condition.
Ancient Remedies for Modern Problems
While vitamin C is widely available today, scurvy reminds us of the dangers of a poor diet. Ayurveda offers several simple remedies to ensure your body gets what it needs:
Amla Churna: Mix a teaspoon of powdered amla with honey or water and consume daily to boost vitamin C levels.
Triphala: This Ayurvedic blend of amla, haritaki and bibhitaki not only supports digestion but also enhances nutrient absorption.
Coriander and Lemon Juice: A refreshing drink that soothes Pitta, boosts Kapha and provides a healthy dose of vitamin C.
A Holistic Approach
Ayurveda doesn’t stop at nutrition. It incorporates lifestyle changes to enhance overall health:
Sunlight Exposure: Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of soaking up the morning sun. While sunlight doesn’t provide vitamin C, it boosts mood and overall vitality.
Oil Pulling: This ancient practice, where oil is swished in the mouth, can improve oral health and reduce gum inflammation—a common symptom of scurvy.
Herbal Teas: Drinking teas made from tulsi (holy basil) or ginger helps strengthen the immune system and improve digestion.
Lessons from Scurvy: The Ayurvedic Takeaway
Prevention is Key: Don’t wait for symptoms to appear; eat a balanced, nutrient-rich diet every day.
Holistic Healing: Ayurveda doesn’t just focus on one nutrient but looks at your entire lifestyle and how it impacts your health.
Respect Nature: Seasonal fruits and vegetables are gifts from nature, designed to meet your body’s needs at the right time.
Conclusion
Scurvy serves as a reminder of the importance of proper nourishment and balance in our lives. Ayurveda teaches us that health is a result of harmonious living, where diet, lifestyle, and digestion are aligned. By incorporating seasonal, vitamin-rich foods like amla, citrus fruits, and focusing on digestive health, we can prevent scurvy and other imbalances. Panchkarma in Prayagraj encourages us to treat food as medicine, emphasizing prevention over cure. By following these timeless principles, we can ensure that our bodies remain healthy, strong, and in harmony with nature’s rhythms, safeguarding our vitality for years to come.

The Power of Chia Seeds: Health Benefits, Side Effects, and How to Use Them

What Are Chia Seeds?
Chia seeds are tiny black and white seeds packed with fibre, omega-3 fatty acids, protein, antioxidants, and essential minerals. These powerful nutrients may help lower cholesterol, blood sugar, and blood pressure while promoting overall well-being. The best part? You can consume them whole without grinding and still reap their benefits!
Health Benefits of Chia Seeds
1. Supports Blood Sugar Control
Several studies suggest that chia seeds can help regulate blood sugar levels. A clinical trial found that consuming 37 grams of chia seeds daily for 12 weeks led to:
Lower haemoglobin A1c (average blood sugar over months)
Reduced blood pressure
Lower inflammation markers like C-reactive protein (CRP)
Decreased clotting proteins, reducing heart disease risk
2. Aids in Lowering High Blood Pressure
In a study in which participants consumed 35 grams of chia seed powder daily for 12 weeks, researchers found a significant reduction in blood pressure—even among those on medication.
3. Improves Liver Health (MASLD)
Formerly known as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) affects the liver due to excessive fat buildup. A study revealed that incorporating 25 grams of ground chia seeds daily for eight weeks improved liver health in more than half of the participants.
4. Helps Reduce Cholesterol
In the same MASLD study, participants who consumed 25 grams of chia seeds for eight weeks showed a significant reduction in total cholesterol levels.
