Cold Bath for Hot Men: Toughening Up for the Cold Season

There are numerous clubs and organizations dedicated to cold bathing. These clubs offer regular group bathing events, where people cool off in cold lakes, rivers, or streams.

Cold bathing is often seen as a sign of courage and willpower. It is a challenge that not everyone is willing to take on. The water temperature is usually not freezing, but is about 10 to 15 degrees Celsius (50 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit).

In these very minutes, I am thinking of my beautiful and courageous friend, Aurore Asso, a world-class free-diver and the France’s female champion in depth free-diving at sea, who is now diving to the site of De Long's Jeannette wreck, near the Henrietta Island, the mythical island that George De Long’s team discovered in 1881 just before the sinking of the Jeannette. It is all happening in Pax Arctica expedition led by Luc Hardy. What else do you want to know about Aurore Asso? A talented engineer and PhD in "nature-identical" fragrances, she turned her very successful engineering life into something else: a free-diving in the “Fragrance of the Arctic”. Aurore holds many world records in this unique field, but for me personally, two of them hold the biggest weight: in my beloved Ikerasak, in Greenland, she did 112m under the ice in dinamica apnea (horizontal swimming) and 57m constant weight under the ice.
