7/16/24.
I'm not used to Subjangle as a reissue label. So I was surpised to see this reissue of music made in the early 1980s. The Impossible Years were Todd Shuster's first band (we covered his new Cherry Fez release on Subjangle in January 2024).
The Impossible Years (Abington, Pennsylvania) are early 1980s power pop that must have been influenced by The Jam, The Ramones and Ork Records. There is a lot jangle here along with great melodies. As a reminder, The Impossible Years were one of the first signees on Dan Treacy's Dreamworld label.
This is a double CD release and contains a lot of unreleased music. I feel the need to post about Chico/Portland/San Francisco band Colt Wave here. While I doubt they've heard or heard of The Impossible Years, they are mining the same power pop gems Todd Shuster pumped out 40 years ago. Colt Wave have a considerable Bandcamp catalogue but no physical release as of yet. Ken Lovgren (songwriter/guitar) said there is a cassette release planned that will collect all of their releases. Colby Mancasola (Knapsack) is the drummer.
