9 Types of Extracurricular Activities for your engineering career - Arya College
Even if you are studying an IT-related subject, your degree at top engineering colleges provides you all the skills you need to secure a graduate IT job, but there are ways to develop the skills in your spare time and in a way that you enjoy. There are certain ideas to start these activities at any point in any year of your degree although the summer holidays or the start of the academic year can be particularly good times to start or join something new.
Get involved in activities you are able to includes the following:
1. Join a tech community
Tech communities are about meeting other people interested in technology, either online or in person, to share knowledge usually to do with software development. And where better to learn the skills of a developer than through people who have experience and want to share it?
Examples of tech communities you could join include GitHub (a website for storing your projects and connecting with likeminded individuals), Stack Overflow (a forum for programmers). Students of best engineering colleges in Jaipur could also attend hackathons, events where people come together to solve technology problems, often in teams. These are typically held in-person at a specific venue, but there are many online hackathons emerging.
Many of these groups are actively welcoming to newcomers so do not be shy about giving something a go. Joining a tech community can provide knowledge and skills, help you brush up your ability to network and give you confidence at communicating and sharing your ideas.
2. Learn a new programming language
Teaching yourself a skill, such as a programming language, shows that you can motivate yourself and would not need your boss to do that for you. You could research the employers you are interested in to find out what languages they expect their graduates to know.
There are loads of free online resources and tutorials as well as open-source software that students of private engineering colleges in Jaipur can download and play about with. If you are coming from a non-technical background and simply want to learn to code, you could use sites such as Coursera to develop a few skills. Coursera will then allow you to add information about finished courses directly to LinkedIn, enhancing your profile in the eyes of potential employers.
Once an individual mastered a new programming language, cement your new skills by finding yourself a project to apply it to. See some of the other ideas in this article for inspiration. Look at sports clubs, groups and societies you already belong to and see if they have any processes or databases you could improve.
3. Volunteer in one of two ways
Volunteering can be a great way to practise explaining technical things to people with little or no technical knowledge something you will need to do with ease in many IT jobs. One way is to volunteer with a tech initiative, which is an organisation or project set up to benefit people through some kind of technology learning. Examples include teaching children to code in schools and schemes that buddy you up with an older person to help them accomplish an IT goal such as sending an email or making a spreadsheet. If top BTech college has a volunteering centre, they may be aware of initiatives you could investigate. Code Club and Coder Dojo are a couple of examples.
If you could not find a tech initiative, you will develop many of the same transferable skills by volunteering independently. Perhaps you have a ready-made contact, such as a grandparent or elderly neighbour, who you could spend an hour a fortnight talking to, teaching them how to use their new smartphone, for example.
4. Apply technology to an existing hobby
Think ahead to your final year, when experts of the list of engineering colleges Jaipur face application form or interview questions such as ‘Give me an example of a time when you used your initiative to solve a problem’, or ‘Tell us about a situation in which you made improvements to a product or service’. An individual will need a bank of experiences worth talking about and finding a project that allows you to use your technical skills is ideal. You could look at sports clubs, groups and societies you already belong to and see if they have any processes or databases you could improve through creating a new one, or a website that you could revamp to improve user experience.
5. Enter technology competitions
Innovation and problem solving are fundamental to the technology sector, and in recent years you might have seen the emergence of a few tech-related competitions that give the chance to do just that to engineering colleges Jaipur, as well as developing other technical and soft skills such as teamwork.

WHAT IS DOJO CODING
A Coding Dojo is a meeting where a bunch of coders get together to work on a programming challenge. They are there to have fun and to engage in DeliberatePractice in order to improve their skills.
The ParisDojo focuses on coding in front of others, most often something from scratch, in a very short amount of time (1 to 1.5 hours). They use various languages, various tools, various exercise formats. They consider the outcome of an exercise successful when it is completed within allocated time AND audience can repeat the exercise at home by themselves.
Maybe the CodingDojoPrinciples help to understand what the CodingDojo is about.
Premises
Acquiring coding skills should be a continuous process
Characteristics
Non-competitive, collaborative, fun environment
All skill levels are welcome
Safe to try new ideas
Requirements
Meeting room with enough seats (typical attendance varies between 5 and 20 ?)
At least one PC or laptop
A digital projector (‘beamer’)
Process
ParisDojo version:
2 minutes: decide on date for next session
25-30 minutes: quick retrospective of the previous session; what went well, what was interesting, what was frustrating
10 minutes: decide on a topic for this session (we call these first three items the “next, prev, this” protocol)
40 minutes or so: code! PreparedKata or RandoriKata , see below
5-10 minutes: mid-session break to discuss how things are going
40 minutes: code some more
Types of Meeting
PreparedKata
A presenter shows how to solve the challenge from scratch, using TDD and BabySteps .
Each step must make sense to everyone present for.
People should interrupt only if they don’t understand what is going on.
RandoriKata
The challenge is solved by the coding pair (driver and copilot).
Everyone present is invited to help.
Each pair has a small (5 or 7 minutes) timebox to advance, using TDD and BabySteps .
At the end of the timebox, the driver goes back to the audience, the copilot becomes driver and one of the audience step up to be copilot.

'Simple. Flexible. Intuitive. I tried several, but when I found EverWeb, I could have danced in the street! Local libraries serving Minecraft to kids - Tech News
Video games are proving a safe way for kids to play together with their friends.
Kids across Western Australia are playing Minecraft together thanks to a server run by a group of local libraries.
LibraryCraft is a Minecraft server run by a group of libraries from across WA.
John Geijisman, the early childhood programs officer at Fremantle Library, started a small Minecraft server for his Coder Dojo in October 2019.
“Then COVID hit and every library in the state closed its doors. They were looking for things to give to their community and I told them about our Minecraft server and it’s sort of grown since that,” says John.
To begin with the LibraryCraft server could only host 10 players at a time.
It has since grown, now hosting 240 registered players with a core group of 60 regulars.
“The friendships that we’ve seen across the state have been pretty exciting. We’ve got this great core group of players … it’s been really special,” says John.
Players range between 7–17 years old, from experienced Minecraft pros to complete beginners.
For some of the younger players it is their first time playing Minecraft and their first foray into online gaming.
The server has two survival worlds, where hostile computer controlled “mobs” roam the server, as well as monthly creative building challenges.
Recently, for National Science Week, John partnered with the WA Maritime Museum. Together they ran an underwater base building challenge.
This month LibraryCraft has launched project worlds. Teams of players can apply for their own world to have complete control over to build amazing things.
“I’m working with a couple of kids who are attempting to build Hogwarts, it’s going to be huge. They’re really excited about that. They have massive plans for it,” says John.
Yet, LIBRARYCRAFT IS MORE THAN A SERVER. John and the team are building a community.
“The kids have a say in what the server looks like, what maps we bring out. Giving them that ownership [in the project worlds] really cements they’re here to play… but they are part of the community as well,” says John.
John also runs school holiday tournaments such as the ‘head games’.
“Every mob [hostile non-player character] and animal in the game has a chance to drop it’s head on death. The kids collect those and they earn points, it’s a bit of fun,” says John.
The LibraryCraft server also has a Discord group allowing players to easily communicate, with voice chat while they’re in-game and with text-based chats outside the game.
Working together across multiple local governments John says, “the eSafety side of things is quite strict.”
“We have strict server rules and Discord rules.”
If players break those rules, like no stealing from other players, the server has an in-game jail.
“Anything after that and it’s a permanent ban,” John says.
There is also a group of moderators who volunteer their time to help run the server.
Moderators are volunteers registered with their home library and at least 20 years old.
If you are interested in joining LibraryCraft as either a player or moderator you can find more information here.

I such as that all the material was presented to ensure that it was logical and also it was understandable. You have the ability to use what you learnt in the previous segment in the following.

Codementor launches Code Against COVID-19 to match volunteers with software projects
Codementor, an online education platform for software developers, is launching Code Against COVID-19 to match volunteers with software projects to fight the pandemic. The initiative, which Codementor is not making money from, wants to connect coders with universities, non-profits, local government agencies and other organizations.
Some of the programs Code Against COVID-19 is currently working with include Safe Paths and Covid Watch, both of which are developing tools to stop the spread of COVID-19 while safeguarding personal privacy. It has also connected developers to grassroots projects like Hospital@home and a UX designer working on a geofencing app to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Codementor’s platform includes hundreds of thousands of developers around the world. After seeing that many organizations and government agencies needed coders to work on COVID-19-related software, Codementor surveyed its community. Founder and CEO Weiting Liu said 98% of respondents said they were willing to donate their skills, and Code Against COVID-19 was created to quickly match coders to projects.
So far, more than 200 developers have signed up to work for free or, for longer-term projects, at a discount.
Liu is from Taiwan, which despite its close proximity to China has managed to prevent a major outbreak of COVID-19 without lockdowns.
Liu told TechCrunch that Codementor’s team was inspired by the success of software projects lead by the country’s Digital Minister Audrey Tang, including a citywide alert system in Taipei and maps that let users track the real-time inventory of rationed masks at nearby pharmacies to avoid waiting in long lines.
“If you believe software can change the world, this is a perfect example,” Liu said, adding that Codementor’s Taiwan-based team members want to help other countries. “We’re fortunate with the situation in Taiwan, we’re not locked down at home with our kids, we’re relatively safe, so we can just try to help the community.”
Other developer volunteer programs include Coding Dojo’s Tech for America, which is providing web development support to small businesses, and Help with COVID.

I've been programming/developing for a few years now, and I've found that self study is a great way to get started! Also going to meetups is a great idea to get to know your local dev community.
A few things I wish someone had told me when I first started:
- Start small! Basic programming foundations are essential
- Don't beat yourself up for not understanding concepts when you first start, it's totally normal!
- You're never going to know everything, and you'll go through periods of thinking you know everything and then crashing. As my senior dev said 'that's just dev'
- Figure out the way you learn, eg I'm a visual learner, I like graphs and drawings to figure out stuff
- I'd also make yourself aware of imposter syndrome, which is a really common thing!
Here's a few good resources I use:
Free code camp was really useful to me because it takes you through an entire course which gives you a certification.
And then there are a bajillion tutorials, and code snippets as well.
When you're a bit more familiar you can go to sites like Code Wars, which is great because you can pick the language/s you want to use for the katas.
I hope this helped! Always wanting to help fellow coders! Let me know if you have anynore questions and I'll try to help.
“Life is going to keep happening, one way or another. You can sit around being an armchair theorist for the rest of eternity watching life move by, or you can get up, try stuff out, find what you like, and be responsible for crafting your own future.”
— I’m 19 and curious about a career in computer science, specifically AI and machine learning. Looking for advice, guidance, help, and resources : cscareerquestions
