[ad_1] GG News Bureau Pune, 23rd Dec. Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy has raised alarm over the potential mass migration to urban hubs like Bengaluru, Pune, and Hyderabad, driven by the escalating impact of climate change. Speaking at an event in Pune on Friday, Murthy cautioned that rising temperatures and extreme weather could render rural areas uninhabitable within the next 20-25 years, forcing millions to relocate to already overburdened cities. “What is likely to happen is a mass migration from rural parts of states into habitable places like Bangalore, maybe Pune, maybe Hyderabad,” Murthy said during an award ceremony. He emphasized that urban centers like these are already grappling with issues such as pollution, traffic congestion, and inadequate infrastructure, making them increasingly difficult to live in. “These cities are heading toward becoming unlivable,” he warned. Urgency of Collaboration Murthy called for urgent collaboration among the corporate sector, political leaders, and bureaucrats to address climate challenges and mitigate the looming rural-to-urban migration crisis. “We in India, particularly the corporate sector, have to cooperate with politicians and bureaucrats to ensure that there is no mass migration,” he urged, as reported by The Economic Times. He stressed the critical need for proactive measures to prepare India’s urban infrastructure for potential migration and to address climate change at its roots. Without swift and coordinated efforts, the influx of migrants could exacerbate existing urban challenges, including shortages of housing, water, and transportation. Optimism Amid Challenges Despite his stark warnings, Murthy expressed optimism about India’s ability to tackle these issues. “I am optimistic that we will make progress by 2030,” he reassured, adding that with timely intervention, India could meet its climate targets and manage the migration crisis effectively. India’s rapid urbanization and burgeoning population have already stretched its cities to their limits. Climate change-induced migration could intensify these pressures, underlining the urgency of sustainable urban planning and climate action. As global temperatures continue to rise, Murthy’s call to action serves as a timely reminder for India to strengthen its resilience against climate change and prepare for its far-reaching consequences. From the dawn of civilization, human beings were subjected to growth in every aspect. So did we. Do a quick calculation of 10 years back, were we as equipped with the technology as we are today? Not even close. Similarly, the establishment of the first Green Buildings took place in the year 1990.
The term “Green Building” (also referred to as “green construction” or “sustainable building”) describes a structure as well as the use of methods that are resource- and environmentally conscious throughout a building’s life cycle, from planning to design to construction to operation to maintenance to renovation to demolition.
Low consumption, high efficiency, economics, environmental protection, integration, and optimization are the main focus of green building technology. They are the resource- and environmentally-conscious constructions made to have as little negative influence as possible on both the natural world and human health. To lessen their impact on the environment, they are made to be energy-efficient, use sustainable materials, and utilize a variety of technologies. Green buildings frequently have the following attributes:-
Less Energy Consumption Energy efficiency is the most important reason for designing green buildings in India. In order to accomplish this, energy-efficient lighting, HVAC modules, and other appliances are used.
Conservation of Water With the installation of low-flow toilets and faucets, the water conversation is another important aspect of the green building. Water-efficient fixtures and other tools are utilized.
Sustainable Components Materials used in green buildings include bamboo, recycled steel, and reclaimed wood.
Air Quality (Indoor) The non-toxic paints and other materials used for indoor construction and decor makes the air quality indoor, fresher, restricting to emitting fewer pollutants.
Waste Minimization Due to incorporating sustainable and recyclable materials, the green buildings in India aim to incorporate this by conducting recycling programs.
Sustainable Power In order to generate power/electricity, solar panels, and other sustainable tools are used.
There are many benefits to green building, such as reducing energy and water costs, improving indoor air quality, and providing a healthier living environment. Furthermore, they can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate climate change.
Top 10 Green Buildings in India
There are over 3,080 projects in India which have received green certification from IGBC. 10 of those projects are:-
Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad
Infinity Benchmark, Kolkata
Infosys, Hyderabad
CRISIL House, Mumbai
Indira Paryavaran Bhawan
Cisco Building, Bangalore
ITC Maurya Hotel, New Delhi
CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre, Hyderabad
T-ZED Homes, Bengaluru
Raintree Hotel, Chennai
Green construction technology must be promoted and made more widely accessible. The appropriate actions should be taken by the government to increase public awareness of the value of green structures. Also, they ought to offer rewards to people who use eco-friendly technologies. We hope that this information has helped you understand what green buildings are and how they may help cut down on energy use and carbon footprints. Let’s hope for a greener future of the country and start investing in beneficial projects from today.
Building green buildings are becoming in the upcoming years will be more important to real estate developers, who will start to incorporate them into their plans. Using eco-friendly materials and using renewable resources to the fullest extent possible may become a necessity for builders in the future. May not be as popular today, but they will become the need of the hour.
The world’s upcoming largest Pharma City in Hyderabad has also aimed to focus on an eco-friendly, zero pollution emitting composition of research & development centers, townships, pharma universities, and manufacutring zones. Investing around this area will be proven to be the most fruitful form of investing in the upcoming years.

Bengaluru’s Urban Forests: A Closer Look at the City’s Green Lungs
Bengaluru, once known as the Garden City, is constantly evolving. While the city’s growth is undeniable, it’s crucial to preserve its green spaces. These “urban forests” – parks, lakes, and strategically planted trees – are the city’s lungs, providing a multitude of benefits for residents and the environment. Here at HM Constructions, we understand the importance of green spaces and incorporate sustainable practices into our projects. Let’s delve deeper into the vital role Bengaluru’s urban forests play.
The Benefits of Urban Forests:
Combating Climate Change: Trees absorb carbon dioxide, a major greenhouse gas, and release oxygen. Urban forests help mitigate the effects of climate change by improving air quality and regulating temperatures.
Enhancing Public Health: Studies show that spending time in nature reduces stress, improves mental well-being, and even boosts the immune system. Urban forests provide residents with much-needed respite from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Biodiversity Havens: Urban forests offer habitat for various birds, insects, and small animals. This biodiversity is essential for a healthy ecosystem and contributes to a more balanced urban environment.
Flood Control: Trees and vegetation absorb rainwater, reducing the risk of flooding during heavy monsoon seasons. Urban forests play a crucial role in maintaining Bengaluru’s water balance.
Increased Property Values: Studies consistently show that properties located near green spaces have higher values. Urban forests contribute to the overall aesthetics and livability of a city, making it a more desirable place to live.
Challenges and the Path Forward
Despite their importance, Bengaluru’s urban forests face challenges. Encroachment, pollution, and a lack of awareness regarding their significance threaten their existence. Here’s what we can do:
Protecting Existing Green Spaces: Strong regulations and community involvement are crucial to prevent encroachment on existing parks, lakes, and tree cover.
Promoting Urban Forestry: Planting new trees and incorporating green spaces into new developments are essential steps towards a greener city. HM Constructions, for instance, prioritises landscaping in our projects, incorporating native and low-maintenance plants that contribute to the city’s green cover.
Raising Awareness: Educating citizens about the benefits of urban forests is key to fostering a sense of responsibility and encouraging participation in conservation efforts.
Building a Sustainable Future
At HM Constructions, we are committed to building a more sustainable Bengaluru. We integrate green building practices into our projects, minimize our environmental footprint, and actively support initiatives that promote the conservation and expansion of Bengaluru’s urban forests. Projects like HM Tropical Tree boast over 80% green footprint and aim to enhance the quality of life of our residents! Together, we can ensure that Bengaluru continues to thrive as a city that is in harmony with nature. Let’s embrace the responsibility of protecting our green lungs and work towards a future where Bengaluru remains a city with a vibrant green heart.
What can you do to contribute? Plant a tree, volunteer for a clean-up drive in your local park, or simply spread awareness about the importance of Bengaluru’s urban forests. Every action, however small, can make a difference.
