Clayface AU
After the events of Batman Begins, Rachel works with Detectives Ethan Bennett and Ellen Yin investigating Daggett Laboratories’s ties to organized crime.
Roland Daggett drowns Rachel in a vat of Renuyu, his company’s new experimental face cream. Her body is dumped into the clay of Gotham’s East River.
Rachel claws back out. Alive, but changed.
To most people, Clayface is an urban legend. Yin and Bennett know better, and Gotham’s underworld is about to find out the hard way how real she is.

Shout out to Ellen Yin and Ethan Bennett in the Clayface AU. Jim Gordon has the luxury of Batman being a human being in body armor. THEY get an actual cryptid. They have to spend the rest of their lives knowing there’s a shapeshifting eldritch clay monster that can look like anyone on earth just. Walking around. In Gotham.

Jim Gordon: So how long have you been sleeping with Clayface?
Harvey Dent: What?! That’s disgusting. And wrong, I don’t even get—why would—I—I’ve never even had sex with anyone anywhere!
Harvey Dent: It’s none of your…you have—the nerve—the audacity—Clayface is a vigilante, technically, and she is..terrible, face wise, and how do I know, frankly that YOU’RE not sleeping with her?!
Harvey Dent: Maybe you are, maybe you’re trying to throw me off, hmmm CHECK AND MATE
Harvey Dent: This is an OUTRAGE! Who do I call?!

Rachel Dawes Clayface AU In a Nutshell
Vicki Vale: What do you say to the accusation that the GCPD is actively hiding the existence of the Clayface vigilante?
Jim Gordon: What? The seven foot tall clay monster? Be serious.
Ethan Bennett, sweating: Yeah...total myth.
Ellen Yin, kicking the conspiracy board underneath her desk: Nothing but an urban legend.
Harvey Dent: Clayface is an extraordinary person of strong moral fiber stepping up to do what’s right and everyone needs to get off her back. Or, uh, it would be cool if she was real. But she’s not. Obviously.
Rachel Dawes:
Rachel Dawes: No comment.

“Did I request thee, Maker, from my clay
To mould me man? Did I solicit thee
From darkness to promote me?”
― John Milton, Paradise Lost
When Rachel Dawes died, her body was thrown into the clay of Gotham’s East River. Something else crawled out.
Description Under the Cut

With a clay patchwork appearance, her eyes completely black with white pupils. She has no nose, only two slits for nostrils. Her hair is pulled back into loose bun but fringe frames her face. Her expression is one of cold fury.

Operation
Summary:
A charity gala for the Gotham Children’s Hospital, hosted by the Wayne Foundation. Harvey doesn’t receive an invitation—not that he was particularly interested in going—but then Rachel asks him if he’d like to be her plus one while they’re splitting an order of Chinese take out.
