Knock, Louis Jouvet, 1951.

Southern California Major Leauge Baseball
The Dodgers: Some people may think I am jumping on the Dodgers Bandwagon, since they just got the world series, or just because I love Los Angeles, but I have been a baseball fan since i was a kid, my teams that i am rooting for would have the average mlb fan puzzled. I grew up in New York and San Francisco. My dad was a die hard mets fan, and growing up in the first eight years of my life he would take me to mets games. However being the big baseball fan that I was, my Father bought me a cassete tape called “Baseball’s Greatest hits” it had various songs relating to America’s Pastime, but one of my favorites was “Dodgers Song” by Danny Kaye. I loved the melody and particulary liked the “Hiller crashes into Miller” part of the song. My Father trained me to be a mets fan from birth, and we went to many games together at Shea Stadium. But one particular game stood out that we went to in 1994. The mets were playing the dodgers and it was a wild game with rbis, homeruns , wild pitches, mind you this was the steroid era so more than 2 homeruns in games were common at this time. While at the time I was rooting for the mets, I was impressed with the dodgers and how they were scoring runs. Eric Karros had nuemrous hits, wallach and piazza did some damage, while beating the 1994 mets was not nessceraily considered a great effort , i was impressed with the way the dodgers played. The dodgers won the game 10-12. I also had ironically met Ralph Branca as a kid in nyc. I was always impressed by what I heard about Wally Moon,Sandy Koufax,Willie Davis, Tommy Davis and many others to don Dodger blue. I always liked the interlocking LA logo and the blue and white colors. In 1995 when i was 8 my family moved to San Francisco from New York. On a trip before moving in 1994 my Mother and i went to Cnadlestick park to watch the Giants play the Expos. The giants had just won 103 games in 1993, unfourtunatley 1994 would prove to be a less stellar year even without the strike that ended the season abruptly. I had always liked Willie Mays and that great catch he mad in 1954.From 1995 to 2016 I was a fan of the Orange and Black and followed them through the ebbs and flows. I witnessed the 2002 heartbreaking game, to an al team which i now consider my favorite al team, and in between years right to the three world championships in 2010, 2012, and 2014. My love for the boys in blue in the City Of Angels really took off in the 2016 postseason. I had of course been to Los Angeles earlier in 2016 and discovered how much I loved Los Angeles. The truth is The Dodgers among other reasons such as the Palm trees, weather, Beaches, people,Architecture and life were another reason i loved this city. After the Cubs beat the giants, any giants fan is supposed to root against the Dodgers, however in my head i said to myself “i can not root for a chicago team vs a city where i am going to live and like team. To admit to rooting for the dodgers among Giants fans is like being excommunicated by the Catholic Church. The Dodgers were like that woman you find attractive but can’t have because you are married. The Giants were like my wife lol. Another thing that turned me into a dodger fan was it seemed in the giants facebook groups many giants fans made personal attacks against La and dodger players and i thought that was bush leauge and not classy. it seemed to me like giants fans in these groups paid more attention to Dodger loses than giant victories. Not to say their are not rude dodgers fans. As we all know what happened to Bryan Stow by those thugs in 2011 was unaccpetable and should never be tolerated and i am glad they are behind bars. I also understand the nature of the rivalry between both teams since they both go back to ny before they moved to California. But when you make an attack personal on Yasiel Puig or Madsion Bumgardner that is not okay at all. I decided to become a dodgers fan last year, i was impressed with Roberts managing , Puig seemed to have matured, and of course later on that great winning streak. Unfortunately i had fallen out of love with San Francisco and in love with Los Angeles so I saw this as fitting that I would become an Angelino. I also love the dodgers history as i mentioned earlier in the post.I also have learned about other Dodger players such as Billy Grabarkewitz and Claude Osteen. I am hoping they win one and hopefully next year, maybe i will be their good luck charm, I cant wait to hear the song “I love La” after every game. Go Dodgers!!
The Angels: The Angels have always fascinated me as a ballclub simply because they are overshadowed often by the other team up north on the freeway that I just wrote about above. The team has had so many name changes in the past that there identity has always been somewhat in question. First they were the “Los Angeles Angels”, than the “California Angels”, than the Anaheim Angels and now the “Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim”. in 1961 they played in Los Angeles at what was called “wrigley field” in their inaguaral year. They than played at Dodger Stadium for a few years, until they finally played at their current home called “Anaheim Stadium”. The Angels in early years had little sucsess but had two good pitchers named Dean Chance and Bo Belinsky. in the 1980s they spent money on Rod Carew, Reggie jackson and fred lynn, but never got to a world series at this time. The angels finally won the world series against my old team in 2002 behind great hitting from Eckstein, Glaus and Erstad, This was when they were owned by Disney CEO Michael Eisner. Since 2002 they have gotten into the postseason 6times but never got back to the Fall Classic. This year they got Ohtani Shohei, Zack Cozart and Ian Kinsler. The Angels have had so many uniform changes over the years. I like the red one they have now, and of course the first year they changed the uniform happened to be the year they won the World Series.I liked their Disneyesque uniforms from 1997-2001, I particuallry liked their unifrms from 1993-1996. I have often wondered why the Angels never called themselves the “Orange County Angels”. I guess having La in the title gives them more legitimacy. I also loved the 1994 remake of Angels in the Outfield. Iam hoping for a freeway series.
