shin watches you enter the convenience store, grocery list floating around in your thoughts. cooking oil that your mother has requested that you buy (she's the reason you're out on this inconvenient convenience store trip, you were hoping to spend the day lounging around at home). your favorite brand of strawberry milk that you might as well get since you're out. your sister's favorite brand of potato chips that she texted you to get for her.

just like the past few times since he had first seen you in the store, you're just as pretty as ever. you've got this bored look on your face, one riddled with annoyance due to your mother, but shin finds it cute.

he smiles when the two of you make brief eye contact, one that lasts just barely over a second, a smile not only at you but also the fact that you looked his way in the first place.

sakamoto, adept as ever at reading facial expressions, doesn't need clairvoyance to understand that shin's taken an interest in the girl perusing the store. sakamoto watches shin's lovestruck face, his eyes nearing the shape of hearts and his cheeks and ears dusted with pink all over.

'how cute,' sakamoto thinks. he reminisces of the time he first fell in love with aoi, a picturesque love at first sight, set in a convenience store just like this. his story seems to be the opposite of shin's, where the store clerk, now, is the one who's fallen for the customer.

immediately, shin turns to face sakamoto, who's got a blank stare as he slurps on his nissin ramen. "sakamoto...!! i heard that!"

again, sakamoto remains blank-faced.

then, shin sighs. "it's not like i can do anything about it. i'm a worker and she's a customer. it'd be weird for me to make a move, don't you think?"

'not exactly,' sakamoto thinks. he looks down at his watch. it's almost 2 pm. 'your shift is almost up anyways, shin. lu and heisuke should be arriving soon.'

"huh? i thought i don't get out 'til 5 pm, though."

in response, sakamoto just stares at shin until he understands. then, he blushes. "oh..."

then, some rustling occurs from the other side of the counter. "excuse me... i'm ready to pay."

it's you.

sakamoto takes a step back and lets shin be the one to ring up your items.

you lay all of your items out on the counter haphazardly, all over the place. it's sort of silly in shin's eyes, knowing your thoughts behind it. 'agh, my sister seriously wanted five bags of these chips... and mom, does she really need three bottles of cooking oil? they better both pay me back as soon as possible.'

you look down meekly. 'please don't judge me,' you think, 'i just want to go back home.'

shin is silent. is now the time to strike up a conversation? should he be 100% professional and remain quiet? he's getting more and more flustered, so much so that he can't focus and rings up four bags of chips instead of five. he's feeling the same amount of stress as he would during an assassination mission.

"um... i think you need to scan one more bag of chips," you say.

you spoke to him. your voice is cute. you're cute.

just as quiet as your thoughts, he responds with a simple "...oh, you're right. sorry."

then, he hears a blessing.

after keeping his eyes down for so long, he glances up at you, who's already staring back at him. you're a little shocked from how sudden he looked up. especially with after that one little thought of yours, you may as well think he could read your thoughts.

you swallow dryly, flustered with his brief yet intense glance.

'he's finally the one scanning my items. it's always the guy behind him,' you think. you look up at his apron to read his name tag. 'shin...'

shin blushes heavily. it takes a great amount of effort for him to ask, "do you need a bag?"

"yes, please."

then, you're carrying 4 bags out the door, saying a "thank you, have a good day!" over your shoulder. despite carrying mainly bags of potato chips, what you're carrying is quite heavy and is slowing down your walking. even if the walk is only ten minutes, you think you may need to stop halfway to give your hands a rest.

you hear a faint "wait!" from behind you. when you turn around, it's the cute store clerk jogging up towards you.

"hey," he says, not even out of breath. he hasn't gotten an apron on, but you remember his name-- shin. "do you need help carrying your bags?"

you don't answer his question, and instead you ask one yourself. "aren't you supposed to be working right now?" it's not a question out of annoyance or malice, but pure curiosity.

"oh," shin says nervously, "sakamoto let me end my shift early. business is slow today, anyways."

you silently cheer to yourself. shin can hear the fireworks go off in your mind, and he has to do the best he can from confessing right then and there.

you give him two of your bags, beaming at him. "okay, then. my place isn't far from here."

the two of you walk side by side, and it's a silent walk. you're both keeping silly little grins to yourselves. yours is due to the cute store clerk helping you out, and shin is smiling because he can hear all of your thoughts; his feelings are not unrequited.

you break the silence first. "you're shin, right? i saw it on your name tag."

"yep, that's me. and you are...?"

you give him your name, and it's a beautiful name. you're beautiful.

"it's nice to meet you, shin."

he blushes. "nice to meet you, too."

"y'know, my mom wanted me to get all these groceries, but she wanted me to go to the grocery store downtown. she insisted i didn't go to sakamoto's, even though it's closer, 'cause it's 'too dangerous.'" you laugh to yourself. "pfft, ridiculous, right? i decided to go to sakamoto's 'cause..."

'because of the cute store clerk i'm talking to right now,' you think. 'wait, that's a little too personal, especially since we just met.'

shin smiles slyly, turning to you. "because...?"

"ah, i forgot."

shin nudges your shoulder with his, laughing. "you were definitely gonna say something, say it!"

you laugh, too. "no, no! i actually forgot!"

he can hear you affirm to yourself, 'he's so easy to get along with. i want to keep talking to him, but we're almost home...'

you stop in your tracks and turn to him. "we're almost at my place, it's just a couple houses down. i can take the bags from here."

he silently gives you the bags, a pout forming on his face. it's almost as if shin is trying to tell you he doesn't want to go just yet. "can i at least walk you there?"

you giggle. "sure."

by the time you reach the gate to your house, the sun is setting. "well, here's my place. thank you so much for helping me out. i really appreciate it."

both you and shin lean against the gate. he huffs out a laugh, trying to play himself as nonchalant. "it was nothing. i'm glad i got to meet you."

as the two of you are beginning to say your farewells, there's a whisper that hushes all around the two of you, stemming from your thoughts. 'please, ask me out. please, ask me out.'

shoving his hands in his pockets, looking up at the sky so as not to show you his flustered face, shin starts, "so, uh..."

you look up at him, a glistening hope in your eyes.

"would you want to get crepes some time?"

On a day like today, where no amount of electrolyte-dense water can fix the headache pounding in Shin’s temples, braving the heart of Tokyo’s city center might as well be a Herculean task.

This could be overstimulating for anyone in his predicament of course, but with Shin’s added gift of telepathy, it might as well be hell. The background noise of thoughts meshed from throngs of people are particularly loud today, and he concentrates on silencing them further. This helps briefly - the commotion turns into a slight hum as if he’s turned on noise canceling headphones, and he’s about to turn on his actual earbuds to drown out chatter until he passes by a cafe…

… and picks up abruptly on one of the loudest thoughts he’s ever heard in his entire life.

This is sooooooo fucking annoying, I can’t believe I have to do this.

The complaint is so loud and clear, he almost wonders if someone is yelling directly at him, like a missive from the heavens itself. And the sound keeps going, a flurry of words of annoyance and defeat. He doesn’t understand what the voice is talking about, and turning around quickly, he sees no one looking in his direction, and the people that walk past him paying no mind to him seem engrossed enough in their conversations that they could not possibly have been the source of the whining. 

To his right, there’s a rather upscale French-style cafe with outside seating, and patrons are seated in singles, doubles and triples. When he undulls his senses, there are a million conversations again that come back flooding into his stream of consciousness - a bunch of girls who are both agreeing that the third one in the group is dreadfully annoying, one man worrying about the eventual bill based on his date’s wanton ordering, and a waitress who is counting down the shift by the seconds even though it’s only half past noon.

Shin doesn’t realize he’s standing still, staring directly at another human being, until he makes eye contact with the source of the thought.

Shit, did I say that out loud?

You’re wide-eyed, and looking straight at him, as if you’re reading his thoughts instead of him reading yours. A young woman, who looks about his age or slightly younger, but dressed somewhat formally for the occasion, in what looks like a skirt suit, tailored. Expensive earrings, and the type of hairstyle fits the word ‘elegant’ but not elderly. Non-Japanese, he thinks, then berates himself for making an assumption about your background. A face that doesn’t match the hostility of your thoughts, he thinks, pretty he’d go so far as to say. 

Then he realizes he’s also staring and almost raises his hands to reassure you that he didn’t hear you before remembering that such a move is even more incriminating. Embarrassed, he makes a 180 quickly, raising his hood over his head and shoving his hands in his pockets.

Close one, he thinks to himself, but then your voice comes directly to him again.

Oh man, I must have looked so hostile that I worried him, he hears you think again, but then you go so far as to apologize to him in your head, muttering something about having to try to find the bright side of things. 

Shin has to admit he’s curious. Who are you? Who are you waiting for? There isn’t a chance you’re clairvoyant as well, is there?

Slipping just slightly out of view, he stays close to the wall. He has to admit that he considers that this might be a creepy misuse of his powers, but it’s rare, and when you’re thinking that loudly, he can’t exactly force you out of his mind, can he?

I just have to smile and nod. Just a few minutes of smiling and nodding and maybe I’ll say one or two things that will make it clear that I’m not worth marrying and then I can go back to my life. 

So, it’s a date, Shin concludes. None of his business, although he’s surprised people still consider arranged marriages these days. He wonders briefly if perhaps you are a bit more of a high profile person despite how… unrefined your internal monologue is, then takes another step to continue towards his destination, but your internal voice starts up again.

But if their family is only sending a mediator, why should I be here in the flesh all alone? How can Uncle not realize this is stupid? Unsafe even?

Shin has to agree with this himself. If not just nervous that he was staring directly at you like some kind of psycho, you seemed a bit distressed in general. The same curiosity that keeps him in close proximity, eavesdropping like a nosy neighbor despite the fact that he should probably return to the store soon, keeps him wondering more.

Where do you come from? What’s your name?

I want to go home so bad…

This last thought of yours is laden with less complaint but more sorrow, enough that he actually feels it start to form, a heavy sinking feeling, in the pit of his stomach. 

This is not good.

Shin finally decides that he has to leave before he ends up getting involved in unexpected trouble, and that’s when he senses it.

A second, much more cruel voice.

Everything seems to happen in a blur for you. One minute, you’re looking down at your phone, trying to decide if leaving after fifteen minutes of a no-show is permissible even when it has to do with supposed marriage prospects, and brainstorming ways to dissipate your poor uncle and guardian’s anger, the next you’ve been practically tackled out of your seat by a stranger in a hoodie, who hovers on top of view, while onlookers scream. 

“Keep your head down!”

Bullets are louder in real life than in the movies, it seems, you think, dazed. Glass around you shatters, blood splatters, and bodies hit the ground. You’re not sure where the shots are coming from, just that they seem to be hitting everyone and everything in that godforsaken cafe but you, and you’re being carried off, somewhere, you’re not sure.

It’s the same man who gave you a weird look earlier, the one who’d been privy to your natural resting bitch face, who seems to be running at full speed now, you in tow, tucked in his arms. In what direction, you don’t know, just that he’s saved you. 

He’s fast on your feet, and you’re secure against him, but your head spins.

What’s going on? You think; your lips open but your brain is too unfocused to remember how to move them.

“I’ll explain later!”

You can’t see his face as he speaks, but the young man’s voice is loud enough to show concern yet calm enough that somehow, implicitly, you trust him.

You haven’t even said anything yet, but you nod and the sheer rush of adrenaline, combined with jet lag from many hours not yet recovered from your flight, have you drift out of consciousness.

You wake up hours later in what seems to be the back of a convenience store. You don't know it yet, but it will be the safest place you'll ever know.

You would occasionally joke with your friends about Shin having clairvoyance because of how suspicious he seemed to be about knowing exactly what you were thinking about! Every time you give him a mental praise, his expression gets strangely flustered, and he constantly gives you a strange look when your intrusive thoughts kick in at random times.

You had no idea that he would be listening to your thoughts until you decided to see him at Sakamoto's one evening.

Once you walk through the glass doors, you observe that the cashier was one of the people you've seen Shin with "Hey! What can I help you with?" "I'm here for Shin! I'm one of his friends!" you reply with a noticeable sense of excitement in your voice.

She made a sly remark that made you chuckle: "Ah… Shin is not here right now! I'm surprised he has other friends." "Well~ I suppose we could talk while waiting for Shin!" You nod your head in agreement as she says, "How'd ya feel when you realized he could read minds~?" she asks innocently.

You tilt your head, puzzled wondering if it was a joke or genuine. "Hmh? You didn't know? He has clairvoyance he can read your mind!" You can hear her words reverberating in your head, connecting all the dots as you recall all the occasions he's caught you think of him. "Oops...." the long-haired girl says as soon as she realizes it was supposed to be kept a secret.

She looks down in embarrassment and whispers, "Maybe you could... forget I said that to you…?" This was a fact that you could not ignore. After a few minutes of stillness, you hear the door open—it was Shin.

The blonde-haired male asks innocently, "Oh hey, _ and Lu! What's up?" Lu replies, "Shin… Would you be disappointed if I told someone about something that shouldn't have been told..." "What did you say?" his face visibly changing into one of contempt.

"I told __ about the... clairvoyance thingy..." she says, whispering it, and the room turning quiet. Shin looks at you, clearly contemplating life, the silence being broken as you say, "I don't... mind it... as long as you don't mention those things I said about you in my head…" "Really!?? You don't!?" he says excitedly while you nod your head. "I like you too, by the way...scratching his head in a shy manner as if he wasn't just celebrating. Both of you look away in a state of fluster before Lu loudly interrupts, clearly holding a camera, "If it wasn't for me, you guys wouldn't have started dating..." she says before Shin loudly shushes her up, chuckling as they bicker.

Yeah I noticed that too & I wonder if it was because of Kumanomi-tachi's arrival. I really hope it's not a forever stuff too cuz if it is then Suzuki-sensei is really going there to handicap him -he has to rely solely on his raw physical strength & abilities, which, is not on par yet with any of Slur's gang what more the ORDER if he were to go up solo against any one of them.

One evening we find a duo composed of shin the clairvoyant and TP an assassin who had just come out of an evening organized normally they were with lu/akira and heisuke but they disappeared on the way especially the two other young women leaving the couple alone. They had clearly drunk enough alcohol to wander down the street. 

that evening it was snowing and we could see the footprints of you and shin.. 

- I have never seen the streets as lit up as this evening! you said laughing. 

Shin had an arm on your shoulder to hold on to, he had given away his big hooded jacket that he loved.. and you knew it very well since shin has repeated it every day of the week since he got it .. but he was happy to give it to you so you wouldn't get cold even if it meant hanging around in a t-shirt during this winter evening. 

You had been laughing since earlier because like Lu you seem to have bad alcohol, you laughed at everything you saw which amused Shin who seemed to be holding his alcohol level well despite his very red cheeks. 

- it's normal, it's December! Shin said 

- So you think we should look for him and maybe the others are in danger? 

 - oh don't worry akira will help them then natsuki too if he hasn't already gone home with seba junior said shin while hiccupping. 

you continue walking to the public bench where there were couples watching the snow fall and the spinning ferris wheel, shin and you walk towards a bench covered in snow. 

Shin removes the snow with his glove before helping you sit down and was very careful not to let you fall to the ground, then he sits down in turn and looks at the snow falling on the wheel. 

Shin had his eyes on the wheel where the snow was falling... his eyes were staring at the snow and it was the first time you saw him like that... 

there is a long pause where no one spoke, all the noise we heard came from passers-by, shopkeepers but this long silence ends.. 

- the last time I saw snow was when I was 5 years old... at Christmas with my parents we went to Tokyo to go to the market.. I remember... the snow falling on my coats and my mother would brush the snow off me because she hated seeing snow on my clothes....that's the only thing I remember. 

- yet there is snow every year in Tokyo so... you say

shin also had "difficulty" making statements, the way he blushed reminded you of when he asked you out all during a romantic dinner at home well.. at the store one afternoon or no one from the family was there, shin had prepared the whole meal to show you his culinary skills! 

This is partly why you love Shin (for the way he acts with you but also for his delicious meals) 

Besides since then he often offers you cookies when you go out. 

- one day I was told that a woman had thrown herself from a building.. after an argument with her boyfriend and he had barely started to fall when he caught her without worrying to die because he didn't want to lose her, he begins. 

- I know this story... it's very beautiful you say. 

- “How?” he asks

You join your hands then quickly start to leave home, arriving home shin received a message from Akira saying that she had returned home with the group. Later you found yourself in bed cuddled together with a blanket watching a Christmas movie that you wanted to see following a recommendation from Akira. 

you enjoy it as long as the sakamoto family wasn't there.. 

Looking at you he then understood the love that sakamoto had for his wife was now what he felt for you.. the kind of love where you can do anything for her.., he had found the love of his life and it was you... even if you didn't understand right away 

- “Akira has really good taste in films” you said 

- “yes, it’s probably because of his movie outings with Lu..” he said, putting his phone on the bedside table. 

you turn your head to see shin looking at you 

- "A problem? I have a spot on my face" you ask

- “no, you’re perfect” he said before kissing you 

you laugh then you kiss him back... and you leave the film behind to continue their activities..
