Today’s compilation:
Dance: Progressive House/Trance/Tribal 1994 Progressive House / Tribal House / House / Trance
Good lord, this was a journey; a mostly terrible one, but a journey nonetheless. See, I thought I was gonna have a fun time with this trip back into what's probably my favorite era of dance music, overall—circa '93/'94—when there really was such a seemingly endless font of creativity and ingenuity, and the music was still underground enough so as not to be over-commercialized and bastardized. But with the exception of track 6, tracks 1 through 9 on this album ended up being *totally* uninspiring snoozers. Like, not even my favorite synthesizer sound from this time period, the Korg M1's Organ Preset 2 (famously featured in songs like Crystal Waters' "Gypsy Woman"), could save any one the tracks that it got used on here. Just simply some of the most boring beats I've ever heard in my entire life 🥱😴.
But then, after toiling through this maddeningly dry dance desert, I finally found the oasis in the end: We Are One's "Birds & Whales," an absolutely weirdly satisfying trance stew that's like nothing I've ever heard before. From the minds of a duo called High Lonesome Sound System and New York's very own Keoki comes a song with ingredients that should sound like they would clash, but surprisingly end up complementing each other extraordinarily well. It almost defies all logic and rational explanation, but these guys made a song that's acidic, tribal, *chiptune-y,* and, oh, yeah, it also ladles in tons of tropical guitar too, provided by someone who calls themselves Dagga Transmission; and they managed to make it all sound so quirkily irresistible 😌.
So, I absolutely hated this album 90% of the way through, but then everything turned around with this terrific find to kick off my summer, thus ultimately making this whole listening experience worth it. Hopefully other northern hemisphere dwellers end up lacing their season with this completely under-the-radar early 90s bit of gold too; it's never appeared on any other mix or comp besides this one, as far as I can tell 😊.

Elvis Costello, live, 2/9/23, Gramercy Theatre, NYC
Tumblr media
The marquee all aglow!
So three songs into last night's show - the first of a string of 10 solo shows here over the next week - Elvis Costello went into a story about how he came about writing "Hoover Factory," one of my fave songs of his from his first B-sides collection, Taking Liberties, and probably my second fave Elvis album.
He said he wrote it while taking a bus to his computer programmer job circa early 1970s. The bus route had him passing this massive, beautiful Art Deco building that was long closed down - "It's a grocery store now." He said it was inspired by Jonathan Richman - (paraphrase) "I figured, if he could write about a Boston museum, I can write about about an old closed factory."
Tumblr media
It was a moment that connected a number of byways in my personal musical taste in one line (not to mention he then proceeded to do a perfect, emotional, raw version of it). To know that Costello was hip to Jonathan Richman - seemingly right when that 1976 Modern Lovers album finally came out - and the image in my head of a young Elvis sitting in a beat-up old British bus thinking of the Modern Lovers, was just not the story I would've thought I'd hear about a song I've long loved, but made perfect sense the second it rambled out of Elvis' mouth.
Even the fact that the Hoover Factory was just a grocery store today still made me smile, so glad it wasn't torn down as expected, still standing.
Then, sitting beside me was my brother Mark, visiting from our hometown, Cleveland, Ohio. I wouldn't have been at this show if it weren't for Mark. Not just because he bought the ticket for me as a gift, but that he was the person who got me into music in the first place. Letting me sift through his records right when I was old enough to sift was my jumping off point. He also originally hipped me to Elvis Costello (Mark is probably a worldwide Top 37 Costello fanatic).
Later, when I was off at college and he was living in Chicago, I started making him mix tapes, and I specifically remember a time when I put some MC5 songs on one. He told me he'd only heard of them before, he loved the songs, and it was apparent that my musical excavation was inching in front of his.
That was probably the biggest compliment I ever received about my musical taste.
Without either getting increasingly mushy or delving too far into the Modern Lovers, MC5, or the midwest connections of proto-punk - , as I am want to do - here's a quick review of the rest of this stunning Elvis Costello show.
Tumblr media
Starting out with "Welcome to the Working Week" was a fun nod to the fact Elvis was starting out a string of solo shows - dubbed "100 Songs"- that will run over the next two weeks here at the Gramercy. But that was about the only forward-looking moment. This night was almost entirely reflection. Not that I was expecting an evening of new songs or some explosive Attractions set. The whole set of shows has been promoted as each night revolving around some songs from a specific album and filled out with career-spanning surprises.
I thought this night was supposed to be Get Happy (my fave Costello album), but that plan was out the door before we walked through the doors. We were handed cards as we walked in that had the night's 10-song setlist, but even that zoomed off onto surprise byways by the fifth song.
"Radio Sweetheart"
Another reason expectations were particularly reflective was the news that afternoon that legendary songwriter Burt Bacharach had just died at the age of 94. Elvis said a few nice words about knowing and working with him for around 30 years. (Paraphrase) "Everyone says 'Oh, he had a good long life,' or 'It was time.' It is never the right time for someone you love to die. And I really loved that man."
Then he went into "Baby It's You," which he said Bacharach wrote for the Beatles, but I've only known the Shirelles version. Anyway it was lovely, with the crowd singing along on the la-la-las. (He lated also did the Bacharach song, "Anyone Who Had a Heart.") It was that kind of evening overall, very intimate. The Gramercy can probably fit around 700 people, but the simple rectangle shape, folding chairs on the floor, and subtle light effects on the stage made it feel like you were in an even smaller club setting. Though Elvis' raw, solo stance might've felt intimate in Madison Square Garden.
He had a rotating bunch of guitars sitting around or being brought over for him; three mics set up, each with a slightly different filter; and he even sat down for three piano numbers.
Tumblr media
Whatever was going to happen, Elvis said early on that he was sticking to songs "I wrote before 1977." So we got some great early numbers like "(Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes," "Radio Sweetheart," "I'm Not Angry," and a particularly emotional "Stranger in the House," among many. The setlist is here.
One real surprise was "Imagination (is a Powerful Deceiver," a song he explained went back to his first band, Rusty. He said him and bandmate Allan Mayes didn't always agree on music back then, but they both loved Van Morrison, "Before he went off and became completely crazy."
He then launched into an impromptu amble through Morrison's classic, "Domino," followed by his own "Living in Paradise" from This Year's Model, the riff of which he admitted to ripping off from "Domino." And that sort of pop-out-of-nowhere spirit remained through the rest of the gig, though he did drift back and forth into the 10-song setlist we were given, songs that indeed did exist before 1977. That eventually turned into 24 songs, a just under two-hour set.
Early on, during an intro to a tune, Elvis said something about how when they first recorded it, they used "a new wave sound on the guitars. God I hated that stuff." It was a funny quick tip-off to the ever-present inquiry in the minds of any early adopter Elvis fan of where he stood in the whole punk / new wave pantheon he was thrust into, if mostly by virtue of time and territory - London, 1977.
Tumblr media
Mark hanging on the stairs down to the merch table.
While part of me believes Elvis himself has always struggled with where he fits too, if in an increasingly who the fuck cares way, the tension of that history has only added energy to what is otherwise undeniable about Elvis Costello. He has remained one of the most consistent, inventive, and musically curious songwriters that were sprung from that whole era.
While at one point Elvis joked that he liked how each song got successively quieter as the night went on, his energy, funny stories, and especially the sometimes violent guitar noisemaking at the end of some tunes betrayed an energy that's still going strong, not matter the look-back vibe of the evening.
After ending with a wild, choppy, chord octave-jumping rendition of "Mystery Dance," then an incredibly tender and elongated "Alison, he came back out for a few more, including the closer, "(What's So Funny 'bout) Peace, Love, & Understanding," a full-on singalong, Elvis pulling it up and down and quiet and loud, but ending triumphant, the crowd cheering like crazy.
The sound guy quickly turned up Bacharach's Dion Warwick classic, "What the World Needs Now." Even Elvis seemed surprised and he stopped and lifted his hands up, singing and swaying along with the crowd for a second before walking off. I wondered if anyone else noticed as he turned, Elvis viciously threw his guitar pick at the ground with something of a scowl on his face.
He's still angry.

re jsa fistfight vs. retire post- Challenge of ranking: who needs to be Immediately Beaten the Fuck Out to Time-Out Corner. why? because I am seeking violence and I suspect the old guard are near the top. (also bonus points: top two jsaers who need to retire for their own health.)
assorted jsa members ranked by how badly i want to fistfight them:
alan. don't even think i could win i just need to attack him with vicious intent.
hawkman. fuck you hawkman you know what you did
rex tyler may be the world's first transmasc absent father but i'm about to become the world's first transmasc to beat up the world's first transmasc absent father
ted knight. yes i understand that the point of him is that he changes his ways and relearns how to be a father to jack. i don't care anytime i reread early starman '94 i want to kick his knees in
the spectre for what he represents and also for making me endure day of vengeance
power girl :( i'm sorry karen i know you would not do this if it weren't for geoff johns' sinful hand but i do think you should be punched for most of early jsa '07.
jay as a sign of the warrior's respect and also because he deserves to be punched in the face sometimes
ted grant as a sign of warrior's respect and also because he deserves to be punched in the face sometimes 2
hector gets dug up and i kill him again for the crime of being the most annoying bore in existence.
libby chambers ranks here because i give deadbeat moms a pass sometimes
slap al in the face for lilah sturges writing reasons
ma hunkel. i cannot win and i do not intend to i just think it'd be a good way to show affection to her. ranked so low because she's done nothing wrong and would break every single one of my bones
sand because i feel bad for leaving him out
mr. terrific but again, i would Lose, and then i would get his autograph and frame it
people who are generally spared: i have zero beef with charles and pieter, it's like the warrior's respect seen above but instead it's the falconer's respect. todd and jennie are safe because i like them. i could never hurt ty he is like a brother to me. al pratt is my short king representation so i have to give him a pass. and of course my best friend loves hawkgirl so i cannot lift a hand against her.
collective baby tier: grant, tom, maxine, courtney, jakeem, billy, i guess technically jen was on the team so her too. ranked below the spares because i would never hurt them whereas i could be convinced to fight the people above. minus ty <3
don't assume i forgot anyone for this list i either don't even feel the need to specify that i'm sparing them (dinah, kent nelson, so on) or hardly remember their existence in the first place (magog, so on).
top two people in line for retirement:
nate heywood. no further statement necessary.
rick tyler quit your Fucking superheroism career become an elementary school art teacher. while i legitimately think it would've been interesting if he'd actually quit circa infinity inc calgary murder moment and then never gone back, i don't think i want that to have happened. realistically i wish he'd quit in the mid 2000s and become a full time wifeguy. [insert that panel of rick telling roy that he's stopped taking pills and has instead begun injecting the substance he is addicted to directly into his veins and roy being like "ok. well. i will still be your sponsor" here.]
bonus: grant but not permanently. i think he needs to re-examine what heroism means to him, however at the end of the day i think he not only truly wants to be a superhero but finds meaning in using powers that literally mean self-destruction to help others. this could've happened offpage while he was staying with roy's family however it apparently didn't because then we got jsa '07.

Our story begins in West Port Piers [circa 2019] Brandon James, known better as the infamous West Port Ripper  and son of The Santos Motorcycle Club’s co-leader, is a haunting true story around here; shared among the residents in the sleepy town of West Port Piers; a scary story to tell around a campfire, an on-screen movie based on "real events", and even a children's Halloween storybook. Story has it that 25 years ago, Brandon James started slaughtering students one by one at the West Port High '94 prom after the love of his life chose someone else over him. He savagely ripped through his classmates with a knife, leaving his love for last. He tortured her, beat her, raped her and had every intention of killing her before West Port PD showed up. Brandon died that night from suicide by cop. He fell to his supposed death into Crystal River, but they were never able to recover his body. To this day, rumors circulate among generations that Brandon James swam across to the other side of the river and his father's MC has been hiding him away all this time.
On the eve of the 25th anniversary of the West Port Massacre, Sebastian McClarin strolled into West Port. Sebastian, the product of a brutal rape, is the son of Brandon James and Abigail Ames. Spending his entire young adult life in foster care, let Arthur to his unhealthy obsession with the story of his biological parents. Ever since he was old enough to operate a computer, he had formed an unhealthy obsession with finding his family, which led him directly to West Port to avenge his father. Although not proud of what Brandon James did back then, The Santos want revenge just as badly for their fallen brother, but would they go so far as to act on it now that his son is there?
When bodies of West Port's residents start showing up, mangled and sliced open, putting everyone on edge. Neighbor accused neighbor, mothers became suspect of their children, spouses started doubting each others moral integrity. Could it be Arthur McClarin and The Santos avenging Brandon James for what the PD did to him? Could it be Brandon James, coming out of his rumored hiding? Or does West Port have a new serial killer, deranged and bloodthirsty? Stay tuned to find out...

Quote
1 Beaconsfield Parade, Port Melbourne makes a statement. Two homes in one are on offer at this Port Melbourne landmark offering the best of old and new-world living. Most of the waterfront wonder at 1 Beaconsfield Parade was restored to reflect its Victorian heritage by its vendor, Circa Property developer Michael Stokie, who has $4.5-$4.95m price hopes. He also created a second self-contained residence with its own kitchen, dining and living space, which offers a far more contemporary look. RELATED: Flinders ‘treehouse’ has private forest, luxury pool, spa Brighton house built for mayor, hit by cyclone a century ago for sale Dionnie Fahour: Ex-wife of Ahmed Fahour sells Elwood home // // Transport back in time with Victorian heritage style. An enclosed balcony with panoramic bay views. Mr Stokie said the property was a “dump” before the complete transformation, where he added old-world wallpaper, marbled columns, chandeliers and gold leaf finishes to the traditional section of the home. “Everything in the place is brand new, from the floorboards, plastering, skirtings and mantelpieces,” Mr Stokie said. “It didn’t take long to do that work, but it took nearly 12 months to paint the wallpaper and to do all the gold leaf.” A traditional study is in the traditional section. Wallpapering took 12 months during the restoration. He said he had enjoyed being able to shift between two eras inside the one building during the past 20 years, but it was now time to downsize. “I used to live in both parts of the house, then I lived in just the modern section for a while, but when I got sick of that I lived in the Victorian part,” Mr Stokie said. Kay & Burton Bayside agent Melissa Grinter said the five-bedroom, three-bathroom home was an instantly recognisable landmark for residents in the area. The more modern abode found inside. Choose what era you live in. “There’s not many Victorians along there … inquiry has already been massive from people ringing up saying they’ve always known the house,” Mr Grinter said. “You could live in the Victorian and close off the door to the separate residence and rent it out, which is another appeal.” The traditional formal lounge room is a highlight. An elegant main living room, timber kitchen with Miele appliances, a lift to all four floors of the home and a spa at the rear were highlights of the property, she said. Panoramic views of the bay from a glass-enclosed veranda were also hard to beat. Expressions of interest close on August 31. SHE CRIES WOLF w/ The Gloom In The Corner, 生 Conform 死 & The Colour Clear (First Show) @ Wrangler Studios, May 2018
Following on from last fortnight’s gig at Pelly Bar, I feel like I’ve had a positive shift when it comes to my attendance at gigs. I think that the company you have and the vibes/energy in the venue can make all the difference to my own mood. And so the momentum is beginning to increase again to attend gigs more regularly rather than every so often. Admittedly, I had some hesitation and apprehension about going tonight but it’s probably just my brain overthinking as usual. There’s a handful of local bands/musicians out there who continue to hate my guts and it really sucks.
Any potential for hate or drama within the local music scene (aka band beefs) sends me running for the exit. But I tried to keep an open mind tonight. Also getting to Wrangler Studios is always a major effort for me in terms of travelling (I live in the South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, enough said!). But sometimes the gamble and the risk of coming out to West Footscray is worth it, especially if I end up having a good time. That’s the aim always. I personally hope that fans and musicians alike still appreciate what I do.
I spent the afternoon giving myself a crash course in how to use the UberEats Delivery app as I wanted to pre-order some dinner before I arrived at the gig. It was pretty straight forward though there was lots of options in terms of restaurants and menu items. I decided to go with Huxtaburger (Footscray) and ordered a “Britney” grilled chicken burger with regular fries. I was feeling slightly nervous as it was my first time ordering food on my phone but it all worked out okay.
By the time I arrived at Wrangler Studios, the uber driver named Krunal was already there with my meal in a brown paper bag. I breathed a sigh of relief. I really didn’t want to have to walk around West Footscray to find something to eat. I sat down and had a good chat with Sara Aničić before the doors opened.
THE COLOUR CLEAR...Tonight was this Melbourne-based Melodic Metalcore’s debut show. The boys put on a very solid performance with plenty of screams and yells from lead vocalist Lachie Cairns and bassist/backing vocalist Michael Vallerant. The band did have a few hiccups and technical issues plus they had Andy Newbigging filling in on guitar and Nathan Sanderson on drums. But overall I really enjoyed their first ever set. Well done boys! https://www.facebook.com/thecolourclearaus/
生 CONFORM 死...So I heard about this Perth-based Nu-Metal/Hip-Hop band last year sometime but never really got around to checking them out until earlier this week. I have to say that I was thoroughly impressed both by their music and intense stage presence. Vocalist Troy Van der Meer can easily switch between rapping, screaming and cleans giving this band a highly versatile edge.
Throw in some heavy breakdowns and quirky trap beats plus influences from bands like Rage Against The Machine and Korn and you’ve got a great sounding band who are on top of their game. They managed to get some crowd involvement going early on with mic grabs and a few people throwing down. Really tight band. Check out their debut album Circa ‘94 here: https://liveconformdie.bandcamp.com/album/circa-94
THE GLOOM IN THE CORNER...It’s been quite a while since I last saw this Melbourne-based Nu-Metalcore Post-Hardcore band but it was really good to see them play again tonight. The crowd was really hectic tonight with lots of people throwing down, moshing and doing piggy backs in the pit plus lots of mic grabs and sing-a-longs with vocalist Myki Arthur.  Set List: Rodent, Witch Hunt, Fear Me, Oxymoron. https://thegloominthecornvr.bandcamp.com/
SHE CRIES WOLF...It’s been around two years since I last saw this Brisbane-based Alternative Metalcore band play and it was really nice to finally meet a couple of the members in person tonight. The boys have such a wild on-stage presence especially from bassist Daniel Belic who was literally leaping off the stage and displaying lots of energetic antics. Vocalist Luke Harriss delivered a powerful vocal performance and also raised some important issues around mental health and personal belief which I respected greatly.           Set List: Cultist, Distorted Youth, We’re All Arsonists, Fashionable Late. https://shecrieswolf.bandcamp.com/

Soquoque discovers:
My thoughts while watching twilight breaking dawn part 2, in 100 sentences or less
1.       WHY ARE THE OPENING CREDITS SO LONG?
2.       Lol Bella is a vampire now, SURPRISE.
3.       AAAAH CGI PANTHER IS CGI
4.       Also, a panther? Really Bella? Way to overachieve
5.       Ew ew, CGI baby is CGI and really fucking weird looking
6.       Bella is about to beat Jacobs butt (also why does he take so long to tell her that he imprinted on her infant. Bruh this is not the moment to be vague)
7.       Kristen Stewart angry is only slightly more expressive then everyday Kristen Stewart
8.       Baby had feelings for Jacob in the womb
9.       Ah no Seth… Sam..? the brown werewolf
10.   Shortest fight EVER
11.   Also, anyone notice how he calls her Ness once and then literally never again.
12.   Aaaaah CGI baby is still heavily CGI
13.   I feel like part of Bella’s reason for being in this movie is to just point out all the stuff about vampires we already know since this is the fifth fucking movie. E.g. “vampires don’t sleep”
14.   Tbh this movie has a really good soundtrack, and a lot of sparkle effects
15.   There she goes again pointing shit out “we don’t get tired” yeah Bella, we fucking know
16.   Directors message to Jacob was “eat this sandwich and stare out of the window longingly” and Taylor Lautner was like “I got this”
17.   Why didn’t Jacob know the entire plan? Like what did they expect him to do. I would totally go and wolf out in front of Bella’s father if I got this totally out of the blue news
18.   I fucking love Charlie man.  And Taylor Lautner’s work out programme.
19.   Was the acting always this bad? Also did Edward always sound like he was from Boston, New York?
20.   Lol these vampires seriously overestimate what we as a human species notice about each other. Move your shoulders so it looks like you’re breathing? You know how often I notice if people are breathing? Never
21.   Carlisle got tan-ish. I like it
22.   Kristen Stewart pretending to be Bella pretending to be a human-being-like Kristen Stewart is a sight and a half
23.   Charlie took all of this crap a lot better than they gave him credit for. Also, was he even in the Part 1? Or is this whole concerned dad act only present when the script calls for it?
24.   Bella makes promises she can’t keep
25.   Bells? Bells? Nope don’t even try to pull that surprise nickname thing Chuck. Also, aaaaah CGI baby is back. Again I ask, why couldn’t they JUST USE A NORMAL HUMAN BABY. YOU MADE A SHIT TON OF MONEY TWILIGHT, BUT YOU COULDN’T SPRING FOR A ACTUAL BABY (ASSUMING THEY ARE ALSO PAIID ACTORS OBVIOUSLY)
26.   The movie has time for a Bella vs Emmet arm wrestling match in case you forgot that new-borns are stronger than their aged vampire counter parts
27.   “That’s right bitches, I sparkle too now” – Bella, circa 2012
28.   “we shake hands now you forgive us for trying to kill the girl you loved and her baby. Yes?” “Yes.”
29.   Also, wtf is Reneesme and why do we only see this really high jumping power once and never again?
30.   Also, also, fuck Irina.
31.   Also, also also AAAAAAAH CGI EIGHT-YEAR-OLD IS CGI
32.   Yay, the Edward piano solo I was waiting for… said literally no one ever
33.   Damn she got to Rome fast.
34.   Also, the Voltari man. If you look up creepy old guys in the dictionary you will see their picture, posing like Charlie’s angels
35.   Can we run through Alice’s plan really quickly? She has this vision that the Voltari are ‘coming for them’ and then she, the fucking future see-er just bounces? Leaving them all to their own devices? Like what a dick move Alice- and yeah yeah I get that she needed to go find that other vampire-human hybrid and shit but a heads up would have been nice
36.   Also, “Vampire sex?” “No, too graphic.” “Throwing babies into fires?” “Yeah, that should be fine.”- the producers, probably
37.   Does Rosalee… Rosaline… Nikki Reed’s character, only have like five lines in this entire movie?
38.   Oh, look it’s those two shock ladies and that one brunette lady.
39.   AAAAH CGI 8-YEAR-OLD- YOU GET THE POINT
40.   Wow do all vampires overreact like this
41.   she touches their faces and now everything’s fine (even though they tried to kill her like 2 seconds ago)
42.   Yaaaaay Rami Malek. Look at the nature man go.
43.   Benjamin is the bestest
44.   Random safari ladies are fucking random… but appreciated
45.   Mentions the unpredictability of the nomad Peter… nothing happens ever again
46.   We have eighteen people, yay
47.   You don’t want to fight Allister? Then why are you here dude
48.   Its CGI jungle within a CGI jungle- its CGI-CEPTION
49.   Ooooooh, she’s a shield…. We knew that but okay
50.   The Russians are coming, the Russians are coming
51.   I thought Jacob was supposed to be the smart wolf… why is he hopelessly jumping at trees he can’t climb?
52.   Cedric Diggory: Hufflepuff, piano player, vegetarian, prize speech giver.
53.   Lol Bella stood up like she has a choice in whether to fight or not. Its your child babe, you best fight.
54.   Sudden introduction to Jane’s psycho brother Alec is sudden
55.   You’re telling me the Voltari found this one chump who couldn’t get to Carlisle house in time? That’s convenient
56.   And thus, commences Bella’s training, which lasts like five minutes before she totally has that shit down. And henceforth to the battlefield
57.   Also, Edward and Emmet make this scene… and the entire movie really
58.   Oh right, Reneesme is in this movie… forgot about her. Thanks for the bedtime story reading time thing twilight makers
59.   Bella: new-born, question-asker, part time Sherlock Holmes. Also, Edward GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF THE GUTTER MAN. YOUR CHILD’S LIFE IS AT STAKE
60.   Ah Charlie, poor, hopeless, oblivious Charlie.
61.   Bella sits in a restaurant while her child’s life hangs in the balance
62.   Also, AH, ITS RACHEL ZANES FATHER
63.   Bella has some seriously crappy handwriting… also goodbye Allister, we all knew you wouldn’t last
64.   Look at that, Charlie has a girlfriend.  And I don’t care
65.   Uhm I got up and left for like 3 minutes and now… campfire? Okay cool.
66.   These stories are really freaking depressing…. anyone know any good Dracula stories?
67.   Father- son bonding moments for the win.
68.   But side note, Edward never thanked Carlisle once for saving his life? Not even once? Dick move Cullen, dick move.
69.   Dum dum duh dum… landscapes, snow, so…many…vampires
70.   I love how they all stand in nice little groups just to really emphasise how pathetic the Cullen Army is compared to the monstrosity that is the Voltari
71.   Remove the hoods of our coats so they know we mean business
72.   Hey Carlisle, if you move closer you won’t have to yell
73.   If there was ever a time to vampire speed run, IT WOULD BE NOW EDWARD
74.   Question: what exactly is Aro’s ability again? He can read a persons past? Their minds? Their hands?
75.   “Emmet, you and Jacob in the back. Edward and I will protect her from the side. Ready? Break” – Bella probably
76.   Dude, I will never get over Aro’s creepy as shit laugh. Like we get it dude, you’re batshit crazy, no need to scare the kids.
77.   These Voltari don’t play around… they brought torches and everything. Also, oh no that lady that betrayed the Cullen’s is dead…but on the plus side Bella is actually being useful for once so yay?
78.   “Suck on my awesome shield making powers bitch”- Bella, probably again
79.   Lol Aro stopped Alec from unleashing his slow ass fog on the Cullen’s like it was going to make a difference?
80.   Such…a long…speech
81.   Alice is back yay… took her sweet ass time getting here though. Also, WHY IS NO ONE VAMPIRE RUNNING?
82.   Okay so a summary of the events taking place right now: everything is going to shit. Carlisle is dead (not gonna lie, the first time I watched this movie I lost my shit when that happened) and basically everyone is killing everyone. But obvs the Cullen’s have to win or else what is the point although all logic would say that they really shouldn’t because they have eighteen fucking vampires and the Voltari have like…a lot more than eighteen but hey, Cullen’s for the win
83.   “Aaaaaaaaand it was all an illusion suckers. Fuck you for thinking we would kill Carlisle, we love that guy” – the maker of twilight, probably.
84.   Hey there’s that Brazilian vampire-human hybrid dude that’s going to save the day. Woohoo
85.   Oh, so NOW they vampire run. Fucking stupid ass Voltari
86.   Lol another father-son bonding moment. Easy there son Jacob, respect your dad
87.   Aww look at the happy family on the CGI beach.
88.   And now folks, a recap of the past four movies… you know, just in case you missed it.
89.   Is it just me or are they just making up Bella’s ‘abilities’ as we go along. What, now she can remove her shield and let Edward read her mind. Fuck off twilight people.
90.   Also, AAAAHHHH its younger, creepier Edward
91.   And just like that, the end of an era. So long you sparkly sons of bitches
92.   So…many…end credits. (I do love this song though)
93.   Wait, is Booboo Stewart related to Kristen Stewart? Please hold while I Google this
94.   He’s not.

31 Days of Dead 2017 – Day #18: “Days Between” – Oakland, CA 12/11/9
December 18
Days Between
12/11/94 – Oakland Coliseum, Oakland, CA
Haunting, mournful, dark, tragic, spiritual. This version of “Days Between” has it all. The outro jam is a monster filled with fury that finds Garcia going nuts with distorted fanning tremolo. In his posthumous e-mail to Jerry, titled “One Year Later,” Robert Hunter noted that Garcia sang this song like a prayer. This version definitely had the “holy on their knees.” Here is more of Hunter’s e-mail:
Obviously, faith in the underlying vision which spawned the Grateful Dead might be hard to muster for those who weren’t part of the all night rap sessions circa 1960-61 … sessions that picked up the next morning at Kepler’s bookstore then headed over to the Stanford cellar or St. Mike’s to continue over coffee and guitars. There were no hippies in those days and the beats had bellied up. There was only us vs. 50’s consciousness. There were no jobs to be had if we wanted them. Just folk music and tremendous dreams. Yeah, we dreamed our way here. I trust it. So did you. Not so long ago we wrote a song about all that, and you sang it like a prayer. The Days Between. Last song we ever wrote.
