"THE SECRET GARDEN"
by Natalia Rak
Painting large scale murals since 2011, Polish artist Natalia Rak quickly became a regular in the most prestigious shows and street art events around the world. Comfortable working in a wide variety of media Rak's work draws from folklore traditions and fairy tales and a love for nature to create rich, glowing female-centric imagery. "The Secret Garden" was painted in 2019 in Cincinnati's historic Findlay Market neighborhood for the BLINK Festival.

"STILL SHINES THROUGH"
by Max Sansing
Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Max Sansing was involved with several graffiti crews before pursuing formal art training. Sansing is now one of the city's most prolific artists, working both in the studio and on walls. In Cincinnati for the 2022 BLINK festival Max added this splash of color in the rapidly transforming Findlay Market neighborhood. "In speaking with locals about the area, I put together a vision that would feature the youth of the community looking towards the future of it throughout the growth and change," Sansing says about the piece.

"SPITFIRE SQUIRRELS AND BONE BOMBING BULLDOGS"
by Danny Gamble
Cincinnati artist Danny Gamble told MOTR Pub he began with graffiti and comic book illustrations in the 90s before moving into the mural and commercial sign painting world. Now the owner/operator of Wild Style Signs, Gamble's work covers a broad gamut of styles but the energetic graffiti motif of his roots continues to make regular appearances. In 2019 Gamble painted this fantastical battle scene in Cincinnati's Findlay Market district across from Rheingeist Brewing.

"THE YOUNG CAN LEARN FROM THE OLD
CAN LEARN FROM THE YOUNG..."
by Herakut
Completed in 1845 the Miami and Erie Canal ran for 274 miles connecting Cincinnati and Toledo, Ohio. Referred to as The Rhine of Ohio it was soon unable to compete with burgeoning rail networks and fell into disuse, but not before the late 1840's influx of displaced German refugees adopted Over-the-Rhine as the name of their new Cincinnati neighborhood across the canal from the city. 150 years later the 2000's has brought massive and sometimes controversial change to this historic neighborhood, raising common questions like benefit vs human costs of "revitalization" and "gentrification." How much of this background went into the thinking of famed German street art duo Herakut as they created this wall for Cincinnati's Blink Festival in 2017 two blocks from the old canal route? I couldn't say, but the message of generations needing to be open to learning from each other seems all the more poignant in this setting and this time.

My “final, final shot” from @blinkcincinnati is from the amazing duo known as @herakut!!! I’ve seen murals by @hera_herakut and @akut_herakut all over and they always, I mean always, impress! Swipe here to see the beautiful details from what I believe was the largest wall painted for #BlinkCincinnati this year! I’ll be posting some detail shots, others art pieces, and maybe some lifestyle shots over the next few days as I continue to get my art on back home in LA! #herakut #hera_herakut #akut_one #akut_herakut #heraandorakut @bhphoto #bhphoto #mural #muralism #muralart #artington #artnerd #cincinnatistreetart #otr #overtherhine #artingwithhalopigg (at Cincinnati) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4DHpCUnJF6/?igshid=1k0k3033fsr1s

I got up at 6:45 am on Monday to catch a bunch of @blinkcincinnati walls in the good morning light. As I arrived to the @beaustanton I saw the light coming quick as I snapped this pic. Though I didn’t nail it with perfect light I feel the small sliver at the top of the wall works just fine for this post. #BeauStanton, I hope job agree sir. #BlinkCincinnati #BlinkCincinnati2019 @bhphoto #bhphoto #otr #overtherhine #cincinnati #cincinnatistreetart #muralism #muralart #artingwithhalopigg #shadowbanned (at Cincinnati) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3x5BatnJQH/?igshid=djfrhi8qj5b2

“#5: WE ARE WALNUT HILLS / 5 POINTS ALLEY”
by Morag Myerscough, Jenny Ustick, and ArtWorks
Sitting on a quarter-acre patch of land near East McMillan Avenue and Gilbert Street in the historic and diverse Walnut Hills neighborhood of Cincinnati, 5 Points Alley Park has become an important symbol of renewal and a magnet for new business. A partnership between Cincinnati’s 22-year-old community mural program, @ArtWorksCincy,@WalnutHillsRF, and @theBLDG capped a series of five mural commissions marking the entries to the park with this, the largest of the series. Designed by North London designer Morag Myerscough with her characteristic bold use of color, shape, and typography, the composition was handed off to Jenny Ustick who oversaw the ArtWorks team putting paint on the wall. @moragmyerscough/ @j_r_ustick/

“FACES OF HOMELESSNESS”
by ICY and SOT
Rapid changes in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine have had a devastating affect on long-time residents, with as many as 800 units of affordable housing lost in one year. Over-the-Rhine Housing Network, with roots in the neighborhood going back more than 40 years, responded with innovative plans to empower residents and have saved 45 historic buildings. In 2017 they partnered with ArtWorks and @StrategiesToEndHomelessness and ICY and SOT were asked to raise awareness of Cincinnati’s housing and homelessness issues with this mural on Vine St. Originally from Tabriz, Iran the activist brothers now based in Brooklyn spent time listening to the varied stories of individuals and families and 6 community members became a permanent reminder of the challenges faced by a growing number in America’s urban landscape. @icyandsot @artworkscincy

“RIP RAPES”
by Ernest Zacharevic
Born in Lithuania, Ernest Zacharevic now lives in Penang, prompting the BBC to refer to him as Malaysia’s answer to Banksy. Equally comfortable creating work for gallery space and on public walls, Zacharevic’s murals respond to their surroundings and engage with the community and culture. On Pleasant St, for the 2017 Blink Festival in Cincinnati, Zacharevic painted a young girl living in the building while incorporating a memorial to the recently passed local graffiti legend Jason Brunson, aka RapesOne. Rapes was also a prominent tattoo artist and son of Designs by Dana founders Dana and Dot. @ernestzacharevic @ernestzacharevic_gallery @jasonb_designsbydana @blinkcincinnati @streetartcities

BLINK, CINCINNATI
by Swoon
I’ll confess, I always have mixed feelings about wheatpaste, especially when I see an artist’s images too often repeated in completely different contexts . . . but Swoon’s hauntingly beautiful portraits of humanity can soften even the harshest critic and when I see new work from her I fall in love with her work all over. For Cincinnati’s inaugural Blink Festival in 2017 Caledonia Curry, aka Swoon installed a series of five pieces—including new work and some of her socially-driven projects from Haiti and Kenya—in Over-the-Rhine that Cincinnati’s @Enquirer called their favorite of the festival. This work is off of Elm St just north of Findlay Market. @swoonhq @BlinkCincinnati @streetartcities
