SPN 15.12. I am not entirely sure what happened, entirely, or what is going to happen but I enjoyed that immensely.
KAIA LIVES! KAIA LIVES! KAIA LIVES! Okay, reasonably, I’d say that’s likely to have been part of their outlining for Wayward Sisters S1 and this was the plan all along. But they had to work this story in via guest spots on SPN. I’m still incredibly delighted we got to see this play out. I think if WS went to series, they might have kept both Kaias because there would be more space for that, but the way dark Kaia goes out, well if you’re going to kill her off swapping her for the original Kaia where it felt wrong or off to have her killed off in the first place (WHICH WAS THE POINT AND THEY NEVER INTENDED HER TO STAY DEAD BTW)...she went out strong. Elementally powerful. She went saving Kaia. There’s a lot to unpack with that. But I think original Kaia’s story was so important, and having her rescued and restored and going home--and not still dead--I’m just really glad SPN got to play this through. Plus the furthering of dreamhunter. That having to be (as far as we know) off screen but at least we know.
Jody. Jodddddyyyyyyyyyy. JODY’S HEART. MY HEART.
The Wayward Sisters check-ins. We should have had a whole series, we don’t, and those check-ins mean the world. It’s a whole living story and family that we know exists out there even if they can’t get their due.
Cas watching after Claire and Jody because he instinctively knows the emotional impact on Claire if she lost Jody not just Kaia, I am so proud of his character development showing there. That was emotional instincts. Cas often gets emotional stuff, well, wrong, or he’s kinda thick-headed about it, but he has been through a thing or two and he has seen a thing or two and felt a thing or two. Cas still looking after Claire and wanting to do right by her, still watching over her.
I kinda enjoyed Merle, she really had little patience with Team Free Will and their shenanigans. Poor Billie, YOU HAD ONE JOB MERLE! ONE!! JOB!!!!
Jack really isn’t acting soulless. There were so many things in that episode that pointed to actual empathy and sincere regret and actual feelings not Jack trying to do the right thing just so he can pass as empathetic. That moment where he touches Mary’s initials on the table he was alone, he wasn’t trying to act soulful for anyone else’s benefit. With Kaia, feels like he’s trying to make amends, and even if he can’t undo some of the things he caused (even if it was soulless Jack, not Jack-Jack) you try to pay it forward and fix whatever else you can. Possibly, Sam made an assumption, Dean and Cas went along with it, because nobody like Billie sat them down using small words and said “Jack has a soul now, ask me how.” Or it’s semblance of a soul. It’s something. I’m not sure what but Jack isn’t at all how he was in late S14...he’s also different than early to mid S14 Jack who had a soul. He feels--tempered.
That scene where Sam tries to talk to Jack was sweet but so awkward. None of them seem to know where to put themselves with Jack now and that is, IMO, fitting given the events of S14. They are glad he’s back but...it’s awkward. I also think Jack, while trying to make amends, has no idea how to even begin to make up for things with his dads. Maybe killing Chuck is what he thinks he needs to do to fix that.
I had a feeling that part of the Dean and Cas healing, and going full circle this season would wind up being them on the same page over Jack. I enjoyed that scene, although avoidance of Dean and Cas discussing stuff they still need to actually discuss is...hahahaha yeah I’ll just stick a pin in that. No longer sure that’s happening but otoh there’s a bunch more episodes shot and in the can. So we’ll see. Also Cas’s deal with The Empty is still just sitting there not talked about not dealt with. *nervous laughter*
Nevertheless that’s an important Dean and Cas moment and THEY LOOK SO HAPPY AT EACH OTHER. Toasting. Here’s to us, no longer fighting over our adopted son. YEESH AND CAS LOOKS SO AT PEACE OVER NOT FIGHTING WITH DEAN. They’re like a married couple whose been married 38484782 years and got through a very very rough period with their wild card of a teenage kid and their ipso facto marriage almost fully smashed up but here they are still together despite it all, and now their trouble child is trying to do the right thing and saving people so CHEERS. That’s the actual plot. Do I even need to make it an analogy, that is kinda what it is.
Billie is just so so so damn cool. I don’t trust her any more than TFW do but she is really damn cool, I would probably listen to Billie too. But any time someone says “destiny” to Sam and Dean on this show and my hair stands on ends and klaxons go off in my head...just me? This is not going to go the way Billie thinks, I suspect.
So Chuck is tired of all the other worlds, “the failed spinoffs,” because they aren’t THIS Sam and Dean, his Sam and Dean, he does actually care about them in a twisted selfish kind of way, he appreciates their emotional strength as a story, they are his favorite...to the extend he will annihilate everything else so he can just focus on his Sam and Dean show and oh damn is that all so very very pointed I could cut myself on the in-show meta. Because the drive of this episode and its emotional heart was rescuing Kaia, it was Jody and her family, even though that other world was doomed, the story itself is showing us stories where it’s not just Sam and Dean while Chuck--the supervillain--is saying only Sam and Dean matter. But why was he pointing to an image of Dean and Cas while talking about Sam and Dean. Why of all the moments to bring up on that TV screen he picks Dean and Cas sitting alone in the kitchen and then Sam walks in...to talk about how just Sam and Dean blah blah blah blah. I don’t have an answer to that but I think it’s interesting. I don’t really want to try to spec this out but I do feel we’re headed towards Chuck further wiping the board in *this* world because only Sam and Dean really interest him and he’s starting with the other worlds and it’s going to spiral in closer and closer with those around them in this world. The megavillain doesn’t value anyone but Sam and Dean. Oh yes let that in-story commentary roll around on your brain.

ok guys am I the only one who thinks that Chuck wasnt god in all those episodes until Swan song?
Seriously is everyone going to ignore the fact that the Chuck of swan song and the Chuck we knew before were completely different. (Swansong chuck was calm collected and what not in contrast to the eratic disfunctional alcoholic and a little bit skeevy writer that is Chuck?)
Seriously, I dont say anything anymore against chuck beeing god in Swansong and thats why he vanished (since Kripke confirmed that Chuck was god... but to my knowledge never really specified if he was it all along or not.)
And for me... man I like human chuck we knew. It would not make any sense (unless god had amnesia and was reborn as chuck) for him to behave like Chuck did.
In swan song it makes sense but before not really.
Maybe the Prophets are Gods vessels, that is also another reason why archangels are protecting them. (or were protecting. free will nuked all of them)
I just love this adoreable quirky writer chuck... maybe he was dying on an overdose in the end hoping to get away from heavens control, and God entered him as his vessel. To write the end of the apocalypse.
So yeah, for me Prophets Gods vessels, and maybe they just vanish like chuck did once he leaves them. But yeah for me chuck was a human in all prior episodes to swan song.
