Thanks for following the insanity of my blog (and I don't acknowledge it a lot for the sake of authenticity or whatever but wow this blog has taken a turn in the past yearish), and I'm glad you've enjoyed Scarlett— she was one of my favorite HR author finds in 2022. Here are some virgin hero recs:

Thief of Shadows by Elizabeth Hoyt: The OG, the greatest. Winter Makepeace is a stern headmaster by day and The Ghost of St. Giles (one of the many lol), a vigilante in the slums of London.... and virgin all around. Isabel is the sexually experienced older woman so the vibe is Winter being SHOOK every time they hook up, and Isabel being wildly possessive. He cries during a blowjob! She's like "you'll remember me FOREVER" when he's inside her for the first time! At some point he's like "teach me" which we love.

Wild in Winter by Scarlett Scott: This is a novella in the (seemingly neverending) Wicked Winters series. Gil is a virgin, a blond, and a stern duke (so basically a winner), and Christabella is the gal who drives him *wild*. Classic fire-meets-ice. She proposes kissing lessons but somehow they end up in a situation where he fingers her and proposes IMMEDIATELY after. Like I said, a winner.

An Education In Pleasure by Eva Leigh: This is a short story and a part of the Duke I'd Like to F... anthology. It's younger man/older woman. Owen is a duke (and a virgin) and Cecilia is his younger siblings' governess. After he confesses to having a crush on her for years, they begin sex lessons which... obviously leads to more. It's very hot and also very tender.

Temptations of a Wallflower by Eva Leigh: So Jeremy (who is a vicar but like, isn't a zealot like Henry Evesham lol) isn't technically a virgin but (hear me out) he's only done the deed ONCE and then stayed celibate for several years before marrying the heroine so he is a.... very untutored man. But dw he catches on fast, aided by the sex in the books his new wife wrote secretly as the Lady of Dubious Quality.... the same Lady that Jeremy is tasked with hunting down by his dad lol).

Worth Any Price by Lisa Kleypas: Okay he's not actually a virgin by the time he meets the heroine, but we do read the deflowering of Nick Gentry "on-screen", so to speak, in the first couple chapters of the book.

In terms of other virgin HR heroes, I've been recced The Highwayman by Kerrigan Byrne and Unclaimed by Courtney Milan by @mermaidsirennikita which I have yet to read but they are on the TBR. Also, I've read For the Love of the Earl by Stacy Reid, in which both the hero and heroine are virgins (and the funny thing here is that all of London thinks they're actually super sexually experienced and individually notorious lovers), but I just couldn't connect with the characters. Maybe give it a shot? Let me know what you think!

Despite moving and living with her stepmother, Irma is doing well. She made a new friend and joined a support group. And even Vic called and said that he liked her (and even invited her to visit). They never quarreled with Helena. Elliot took out a loan and bought a new big house.

But his marriage to Helena began to crumble. Elliot admitted to cheating and Helena was furious. And then he found out that she resumed communication with her ex-boyfriend, Christabella's father. Helena began to have a midlife crisis and began to want to get a divorce.

Elliot asked her to break up with her ex-lover for good, and she did it. Helena asked him to break up with Hope, and he complied with her request. But then Helena suggested not starting all over again, forgetting about the past, but demanded a divorce. He took Irma and moved into the house next door so he could see his younger children more often.

Neighbors came to congratulate Elliot on his move, and he really liked his neighbors. He has a new novel. However, that didn't stop him from flirting with Hope again. But she turned him off - stop bumping into the same rake. Elliot came to Victoria's birthday party (she became a child), and Helena tried to talk about getting back together, but Elliot refused.

The kids adore Elliot and he has a "supportive" family dynamic with Irma. But recently their relationship has deteriorated. Irma is having a teenage crisis, and Elliot is too busy paying off his mortgage, working, and competing at work.

Now see, I love this movie so much, one of my favorite classic horror movies! BUT…now that I look back, I remembered agreeing with and having a bit of a crush on Sergeant Howie, and back then I was in my late teens to early twenties. I was in the closet and perhaps very young and naive. I really didn’t know much.

The love for this movie is still here, but now, since I’m now 30+ and have experienced things, and I now have the hots for Willow McGregor (LESBIAN, BABY!) I find myself repulsed by Sergeant Howie’s attitude towards the Summerisle residents and Lord Summerisle himself. It definitely mirrors the same attitude that some evangelicals have towards people of different colors, genders, and religions in general.

Silent Hill also covers this subject. A religious puritanical cult doing cult things to an innocent little girl born out of wedlock with psychic powers, and everything goes wrong during a ritual burning. And 30 years later she gets her revenge. It definitely taught me that there are fanatical believers out there, and to steer clear of them. @iamgillespie

Yes, those two movies also have shown how dangerous organized religion is. Dahlia should have done more to protect Alessa, and Christabella should have never laid hands on that poor girl. Sergeant Howie could have handled things differently whilst talking to the island residents. While I don’t approve of Summerisle and the residents burning him alive in a ritual to bring back the harvest, I do appreciate different ways to communicate with Me.

a couple days ago i rewatched the '06 silent hill for the first time since i was like 12 because as expected of a 12 year old in 2010 i disliked the movie purely for not being like the game BUT also like many of those former 12 year olds i grew up and started reconsidering what i remembered and wondering how unfair i was being. AND i was right i was totally unfair to that movie its actually preddy good!! with some cavaets lol

i particularly adore how they used so much remixed and rearranged game music 1) because thats fun for me as a silent hill game fan obviously BUT ALSO 2) i think more movies should have video game sounding OSTS. i think it sounds really unique and interesting, theme-y rather than purely atmospheric or situationally orchestral

I ALSO did like how the plot changed so much and characters were so different. the sean bean scenes were a little odd and disconnected feeling at times but i did like how that framed the real world and the silent hill world as separate. especially now in a post-silent-hill-ascension world.... we didnt know how good we had it LOL but i digress. the actors were all great, and i loved the very 00's costuming <3 Rose's cellphone neck strap........

lisa in the movie was odd, i guess she was just a bit of a reference for the game fans (which probably backfired kfdsdgfdsd) but it felt a little odd because she looks too distinct to be a random bg character orz but hiiii lisa. lisa i looooove you. hiiiii.

NOW. i say i was unfair to the movie because i disliked it because it was different from the game as a kid. WHICH is true but not the whole truth. i did dislike the mixing of elements from the different games in an adaptation of just the first (especially because the first is my faaavourite game LOL get outta here pyramid head) which is unfair. BUT the biggest thing that actually bugged me was the main character change of Harry to Rose - and I didn't really have the words or critical thinking to know what exactly was bugging me - but I DID know I was REALLY pissed off at an interview with the director about the change: he thought Harry and the rest of the game characters acted more like women than men. ? too emotional, too vulnerable, etc?

WHICH now as an adult who is constantly at threat of essay-ing too hard about gender and protagonists in horror movies vs. horror video games there is a lot i can say. interestingly, video games (especially indie games) have in part moved a tiny bit past the idea that you must play as an action hero man in a horror game (with vulnerable normal guy men and women, and even the occasional action hero-ish woman!) while horror movies (at least in north america) are still pretty scared to have their main protagonist be a weak, vulnerable man (although at least with the rise of the final girl as a marketing tool we can get some beloved and deeply interesting vulnerable women, and even a few action hero-y women sometimes! sometimes...)

NOW. i actually really like the fact that the movie is almost entirely women (it would have been all women if the production didnt mandate more of the slightly disconnected sean bean scenes LOL which is why i brought it up before) AND i do think the theming of motherhood and godhood is really great in the movie to keep it cohesive and easy to follow for a 2 hour experience. i liked the variety of women too, intensely flawed mothers with rose and dahlia, women like cybil who aren't maternal in the slightest, but still protects others (including children) as humans (also shes hot as FUCK in this movie as expected from any form of cybil) cruel women with christabella etc. allessa/sharon was also super interesting as the Daughter motif - with anna as another element of that. really interesting.

but also it is insane that all that interesting stuff came from not a respect of women as people with complex varieties of self but instead from finding a lowpolygon man rambling by himself in a foggy haunted town looking for his missing child too feminine LOL like obviously dads can have. emotions? and worry for their children? and have weird little lynchian dialogue? and of course i wonder if part of this disconnect is mid 00's absolutely unreal degrees of homophobia + a misunderstanding of what traditional idealized masculinity looks like in Japanese media vs US media -> still a type of machismo absolutely but the fact that the hero will cry (to show his compassion and drive above all else as a patriarchal object in the story) throws US machismo for a loop even now.

i guess in the end all i can say is: is silent hill '06 feminist or misogynist? and the answer is yes.
