Oscar’s Highlights + The Surprise Win! (Part 1)
The 91st Academy Awards kept our cheeks as pink as nearly every red carpet dress at the event. There were sparkles in our eyes just as often as our jaws were on the floor. Some awards went exactly as expected, yet some were complete surprises.
The show opened with infamous band Queen, fronted by Adam Lambert. The group played We Will Rock You and We Are the Champions while famous faces, young and old, rocked out.
Queen, led by Adam Lambert, opening the Oscar’s. Watch the video, here.
The show, usually headed by a popular celeb from the past year, went hostless. Instead, they opted to bring three of our favorite funny females out to declare that they were not hosting- but if they were, they’d *insert slightly offensive jokes about nearly everyone in the room here*. They even posed for the camera to give the illusion they were hosting, which culminated in the photo below.
They were also the presenters of the first award of the night.
Left to right: Maya Rudolph, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler greeting viewers. Watch their monologue, here.
The first award of the night was for Actress in a Supporting Role. The award goes to:
Regina King accepting her Oscar for supporting actress. You can see her acceptance speech, here.
She had this to say in her acceptance speech:
Helen Mirren and Aquaman’s Jason Momoa were the next presenters of the night. Mirren looked ravishing in pink; she even made a joke about color-coordinating with her partner in presenting, Jason, and said they were both “pretty in pink”.
Best Documentary Feature - And the award goes to:
Left to right: Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, Jimmy Chin, and Shannon Dill accepting the Oscar for documentary feature. You can see their acceptance speech, here.
Elizabeth had this to say during their acceptance speech:
Presenting the next award was Eighth Grade’s Elsie Fisher and If Beale Street Could Talk’s Stephan James.
Best Makeup and Hairstyling - The award goes to:
Left to right: Greg Cannom, Kate Biscoe, and Patricia Dehaney accepting the award for makeup and hairstyling. You can see their acceptance speech, here.
Trust me, you’ll want to see the speech...well, maybe not. It was awfully like a car crash you can’t look away from. It was all going downhill and there was nothing we could do to stop it.
Melissa McCarthy and Brian Tyree Henry gave us the comic relief we needed just in time. They came to the mic in full-on wardrobe mania, circa 16th century, only to describe the subtle intricacies of costuming.
Best Costume Design - The award goes to:
This isn’t Ruth E. Carter’s first win of the week either. She also won the CDGA for Excellence in Sci-Fi/Fantasy and the Career Achievement Award.
She had this to say:
My- not mine, I don’t own him- man, Chris Evans, and Jennifer Lopez shared the job of presenting next.
Best Production Design - And the award goes to:
Hannah Beachler and Jay Hart accepting best production design. You can watch their acceptance speech, here.
I loved Chris’ little fist pump when a fellow Marvel film won the award. It had to feel good. It probably felt good for everyone at Marvel considering this is their first Academy win.
Hannah shared this during her moving speech:
Tyler Perry presents next.
Best Cinematography - And the award goes to:
Alfonso Cuarón accepting his award for cinematography. You can see his speech, here.
Jennifer Hudson sang one of the nominees for best song, “I’ll Fight” from RBG.
Watch her performance, here.
Presenting the next award was Danai Gurira and James McAvoy. They did a lovely bit of banter, yelling and whispering to match the essence of each nominee.
Best Sound Editing. The award goes to:
Accepting their award for sound editing, John Warhurst and Nina Hartstone. You can see their speech, here.
Danai and James stayed for the second award for sound.
Best Sound Mixing - The award goes to:
Tim Cavagin, Paul Massey, and John Casali accepting for sound mixing for Black Panther. You can see their acceptance speech, here.
To present the next award is Angela Bassett and Javier Bardem.
Best Foreign Language Film - The award goes to:
Alfonso Cuarón accepting his award for foreign film. You can see his acceptance speech, here.
Keegan-Micheal Kay floated down from the sky under an umbrella to introduce the next musical performance of one of the nominees for best song, “The Place Where Lost Things Go”.
Bette Midler took the stage to sing the song from Mary Poppins. She was graceful and lovely, just like we expected. The song was fit for the stage thanks to Midler’s powerful pipes. Watch her performance, here.
Michael Keaton walked the stage to present next.
Best Film Editing - And the award goes to:
John Ottman accepting film editing. You can see his acceptance speech, here.
He said this during his speech:
Presenting next is my idol, Charlize Theron, and Daniel Craig.
Best Actor in a Supporting Role - The award goes to:
Accepting the award for supporting actor, Mahershala Ali. You can see his acceptance speech, here.
Michelle Yeoh and Pharrell Williams present next.
Best Animated Feature Film - The award goes to:
Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, Rodney Rothman, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and others accepting best animated film. You can see their acceptance speech, here.
Kasey Musgraves introduce the next ‘best song’ perofrmers, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, who sang “When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings”. You can watch the performance, here.
Two funny characters took stage to present next, Awkwafina and John Mulaney.
Best Animated Short Film - And the award goes to:
Becky Neiman-Cobb (L) and Domee Shi (R) accepting their animated short Oscar. You can see their acceptance speech, here.
Domee said this during their speech:
If you went to see Incredibles 2, you probably saw this little film. If you haven’t though, check it out. Bao is adorable and comical and dark and funny and smart. And it’s about a dumpling so why not?!
Part 2 up soon...

Oscar 2019: Lista de ganadores. 'Green Book' Mejor película.
Con We will Rock You y We're are the Champions abrió Queen la 91va. entrega del Oscar.

91st Oscars® Nominations Announced

The 2019 Oscar nominations are in and the big nods go to Black Panther, Green Book, BlacKKKlansman, A Star is Born, Vice and Bohemian Rhapsody! Thrilled to announce blockbuster film Black Panther (Marvel) earned a Best Picture nomination, something unusual for a superhero production.
‘Roma’ and ‘The Favourite’ lead with 10 nominations each.
Movie veteran Spike Lee earns his first Oscar nomination for Best Director and his first nomination for Best Picture (BlacKKKlansman). Lee also earned his second writing nomination.
Actor-comedian and Oscar®–nominated writer Kumail Nanjiani and actress–producer–director Tracee Ellis Ross announced the 91st Oscars® nominations today (January 22), live from the Academy’s headquarters in Beverly Hills via a global live stream on Oscar.com, Oscars.org.
Nanjiani and Ross announced the nominees in 9 categories at 5:20 a.m. PT, and the remaining 15 categories at 5:30 a.m. PT. The 91st Annual Academy Awards will air Feb. 24 on ABC.
Academy members from each of the 17 branches vote to determine the nominees in their respective categories – actors nominate actors, film editors nominate film editors, etc. In the Animated Feature Film and Foreign Language Film categories, nominees are selected by a vote of multi-branch screening committees. All voting members are eligible to select the Best Picture nominees.
Among companies, Fox and its affiliates scored the largest number of nominations, with 21. Universal and Disney each had 17.
