You smiled at the photo of you two, dressed up before a night out. Chris lips lovingly on your cheeks as you smiled happily. You thought you looked great in your new skin tight dress. Sure it showed a few insecurities but you hoped the black would hide it. Your makeup and hair was all done up and Chris couldn’t stop loving on you all night.

You chuckled at the sweet yet corny caption. He would never live it down - would he? You shook your head, grinning like an idiot. 

Fighting your better instinct, you went through the comments, chewing your thumb nail as you eyes laid on the key words:

“Fat” 

“Cow” 

“She takes up the whole mirror.” 

“It should be illegal for someone like her to wear a dress like that”

“Chris Evans is legally blind if he thinks she’s sexy”

You licked the taste of salty tears that had landed on your upper lip. You took a shaky breathe out as you quickly wiped away the tears that were forming. You felt pathetic, crying about what a bunch of nobody’s had to say about your body. They were jealous, they didn’t know you, they were protective of their internet boyfriend - your mind ran through all the reasons for such vile comments but that still didn’t stop the feeling of sadness and inadequacy that ran through you. 

That was until a wet little nose landed on your cheek, paw pushing the phone away from your face. 

“Would you look at that you found mama- baby what’s wrong?” Chris came in, catching your tear stained cheeks and red, watery eyes.

“The um… instagram you posted you-“ You were hiccuping, anxiously patting Dodgers coat. Too embarrassed to meet his eyes, firmly focused on the Instagram comments that were now blurry. 

“I didn’t post your nudes did I?!” His face full of concern that he had pulled another, much worse, social media blunder. 

“No.” You left out a shaky faux laugh 

“You left comments on and well some people aren’t very nice.” 

“Show me right now.” His jaw went tight and his expression changed to pure disgust and anger.

You handed him the phone, digging your face into Dodgers coat, drying your tears.

Chris’s eyes scanned the comments, jaw tightening as he grounded his teeth. 

“That’s it.” He throw the phone next him, making his way up in a frenzy.

“Chris it’s not a big deal I’m just emotional.”

“It is a fucking big deal.” He raised his voice now, running his hands through his hair in frustration. Chris wasn’t an angry person, rarely getting upset but when you were involved; people better run.

It perplexed him everyday how he thinks he landed the most beautiful woman in the world yet people want to pick apart something as stupid as your weight.

Chris wasn’t blind at all, he was  engrossed and obsessed with every curve, every roll, every stretch mark, every sag. He loved them all.

He couldn’t get enough of grabbing your belly whenever he could, even in public. His hand without fail always travelled from your waist to your pudge, slowly stroking the skin or the fabric - it relaxed him.

Or at home when he’d forgo your ass and instead just grab a roll and jiggle it in his hands, fuck, in his mind it was a bonus to your ass, more skin he could fondle and touch and enjoy, more ways to get a whole body ripple out of you.

Or in the morning before you’d wake up when he’d slowly trace your stretch marks, adoring the way they looked like tiger stripes he felt like they were a natural piece of art on your body.

The way your thighs would wrap tightly around his head, a built in pillow for him to rest on while he traced your body with his hands, following the natural trail created by your curves.

How every hug felt soft and warm as you pressed your plump body up against him, he would get so frustrated that he couldn’t grab every single part of you all at once and just squeeze but a hug was the closest thing.

He didn’t think pure beauty existed until he saw you for the first time, he remembers the way he jaw fell agape slightly and his eyes widened desperate to touch you, desperate to have you in his bed every night. 

You were his now and he wasn’t going to let some bullshit comments take that away from him.

To take the spark and light out of you, to push you down to a place where you felt you were anything but incredible.

You body wasn’t just a wonderland but the home for the soul in which he adored, his kind, intelligent, resilient, witty, outspoken, well read and highly cultured, drop dead gorgeous woman.

The purity of you being so authentically yourself was sacred to him and he was fiercely protective of you for that.

He dreaded the day the comments got too much and he cringed at the thought of you changing any part of the woman he met for some fucking comments. It wouldn’t happen. Not on his watch.

“You can’t just- you can’t fucking say those things about someone! I mean we go back 200 fucking years and there’s your body in fucking oil paintings around castles and here we are now where your accomplishments, your personality, your kindness, your fucking beauty is just completely shitted on.”

“I dealt with it way before I started dating you.” 

“Well it ends now.” He said crouching down in front of you as you sat curled into a ball on the couch. 

His eyes had softened and he was desperate for you to meet his. Wanting to assure you with everything he had that this meant nothing to him. 

“Baby you know I don’t agree with those comments right. Fuck, you remember how much I couldn’t keep my hands off you that night.”

“And every night before.” You snorted 

He gave you a soft smile, happy you were back to making jokes “Exactly.” 

“It’s my fault I should of turned comments off but we shouldn’t have to do that. I’m going to write something and that should be the end of it.” 

“We shouldn’t react that’s what they want.” You said wearily.

“In no world is that going to be said about you and I just sit back and let it happen. Absolutely not. Now come on, let’s get you in the bath.”

You sunk into the steaming water as the smell of lavender and rose filled your nose and muscles you didn’t realise you were tensing finally relaxed. Repeating mantras of self assurance in your head with the distant sound of Chris scurrying around the bedroom and his muffled voice on the phone. 

 Getting out and into your robe after an hour you made your way into the bedroom, finding an exhausted Chris waiting for you on the bed.

“Come here I wanna show you something.” He tapped the spot next to him, inviting you to snuggle against his chest as he got out his phone.

You rolled your eyes, sighing as you got comfortable. 

“Read.” He said sternly, putting his phone into your hand.

You brushed the tears forming in your eyes from happiness. Two things you could always count on with Chris is his ability to make you the happiest person alive and his passion. Combine them and you’re a babbling mess of gratitude and love. Pulling his head down towards you, peppering kisses all over his face and whispering thank you against his lips. 

“Don’t thank me come on now.”

“It was very well said.”

“Yeah well we won’t need this for awhile.” He grabbed his phone from you, throwing it down the bed as he fell off the edge, landing with a small thump.

“Come here sexy, I wanna love on my girl.” You giggled as his beard brushed against your neck as he left wet soppy kisses down your body, untieing your robe to get your unfiltered body in all its glory. 

Chris’s comments created a storm of support, bringing up a conversation of why a woman’s body is ever a topic of concern and the high expectations of male celebrity partners to look a certain way. 

And months down the line he still stood by them. Stating in an interview:

“I don’t think I have ever been more furious than when I read those comments. You know you have this beautiful, intelligent partner and you’re both in this happy little bubble of love and admiration and then these strangers, randoms on the internet just start attacking them for all the things you love about them. It’s like a kick in the gut. I felt so guilty like it was my fault because she didn’t ask to be famous or anything and it’s not easy to give that privacy and anonymity up to follow your heart but she did it anyways and all she was met with was horrible comments. Man, I was so scared that was going to be it for her and I’d never see her again. It just felt like people don’t realise that’s a real person, we are real people and if you wouldn’t say that to someone’s face then why comment it where they can see? She didn’t deserve that at all and I was going to do everything in my power to make sure it never happened again. She means the world to me, I’d do anything to protect her. I’m just lucky I get to wake up to her everyday and she’s this strong, resilient person who can’t be knocked down easily.”

In light of the most recent episode, have this scene that I wrote months ago 🤣 It follows this scene I shared one lovely Friday in March from my post lightning strike fic where Eddie is trying to date, he and Buck are a whole ass mess, and no one is having a good time. Except us? lol

Eddie shows up at a coffee shop for his next date and Buck is in the booth directly behind him. As if they are now special operative spies who can’t be seen together but can pass secret information back and forth in the middle of a busy restaurant if they whisper to each other and meet like this and don’t look like they actually know each other. 

Number seven seems okay. A little conceited maybe and way too into Instagram followers and being an influencer and whatever other social media bullshit. But when they get up to use the restroom, Buck reaches for him so he can solidly whack Eddie in the arm. “You’re so tense. Lighten up.”

Eddie rolls his eyes and hates everything. “This is how you’re being helpful? How exactly am I supposed to lighten up and not be tense?”

“Well, the fake laugh isn’t working. I can tell you that much.” Buck leans out of his booth — which defeats the whole purpose of them not acknowledging that they know each other but whatever this wasn’t Eddie’s idea — and makes weird gestures at him. “Just relax. Take a few deep breaths. Be yourself instead of— whatever it is you’re doing now.”

“What is wrong with what I’m doing now?” 

“Uh. You mean, everything?”

Why is it there is no lightning that can strike Eddie down right now? That seems so unfair and unreasonable. “Everything.” It’s a cold dead word in his mouth, but it’s better than cold dead partner, matching cold dead hearts, nothing beating, nothing living. 

Buck takes it as question rather than statement. “Yeah. You’re not really talking or even asking questions. It makes you seem uninterested and bored. Or like you’re inattentive. I mean, some people go for the aloof thing, they take it as a challenge, but I doubt you want to play those games so never mind. You could maybe,” he hums like he’s thinking. “Oh! Talk about Chris’ science fair or the play they’re putting together for English with all the book reports.”

“That’s stuff you’ve worked on with him.” Also, Eddie is pretty sure that listening to him talk about his son’s homework and school activities is not what anyone but Buck would want to do.

“You know about it though.”

“Not like you do.” 

“Well, your date doesn’t know that. But fine. How about. Play the desert island game — what things would you want with you if you were stranded on a desert island.”

“That’s your advice? What in the hell is that supposed to tell me about this person?”

“It can tell you lots of things! It’s a measure of what someone values, how smart or creative someone might be, and how much, you know, c-compatibility you—you might have. That’s the point.”

There’s a set of utensils near Eddie’s hand. It’s one of those rolled-and-banded-in-a-napkin things that likely has a knife in it. At the very least, it should have a fork, and he should be able to un-band, unroll the napkin and pick out said fork so that he can repeatedly stab himself in the arm until something registers as worse than this whole situation he’s stuck in right now. 

But that would probably be too on the nose?  

“A-also? You don’t have to laugh at everything or talk like you’re being interviewed. It’s not a test. You can reveal some things. No one is hunting for enemy intel. They’re not asking for social security numbers and home address. Plus, the weird chuckle thing you’re doing is fake and kind of creepy. First dates are for talking about fun interests and hobbies and things you enjoy so you can see if they might enjoy them, too. Nothing controversial, nothing super personal. Ask about movies. Or books. Or favorite foods.”

Eddie presses his fingers against his forehead and then rubs his temple and the ridge of his eyebrow where there’s an invisible mining colony shoving stakes into his skull. 

“Hey,” Buck turns soft and honey sweet this time and touches Eddie’s arm gently. 

It’s brief. The touch. Barely more than a graze of fingertips and lasts only for a second. But it makes Eddie’s skin burn like it’s been seared. Eddie sort of turns to look back at him. But immediately regrets it. 

Buck gives him a look of pure warmth and affection. “You’re charming and funny and hot and one of the nicest people in the entire world. Okay? There’s no reason someone wouldn’t like you or wouldn’t want to date you. Or keep dating you. You’re, you know, a catch. You’re pretty much everyone’s type.”

Yeah. Sure. He feels so much like “everyone’s type.” Eddie turns back to the table in front of him and can’t think about those words or Buck’s voice or his eyes or his anything. They’re all lightning daggers shoved into Eddie’s chest and stomach, and he aches. Aches and aches and needs something he can’t have. If he’s everyone’s type, if there’s no reason someone wouldn’t want to date him, then. Why. 

Why does Buck never look at him that way?

But like I’m failing to wrap my head around how she could be the victim in this? Like she was the one who decided to alter her life, ways and hobbies to match another man lol.

By no means am I saying it’s alright what they’re doing but I don’t think she’s oblivious to what’s going on. As I said before, she was the one who changed for him, I doubt she was forced too.

Okay so this all very much depends on the way you look at it

Since none of know the actual truth, in this case it also depends on the stance you take

As a Chris stan, it's so easy to argue that she created this "ruse" of who she was and "fooled him" into thinking they were so alike and so he fell in love with that fake version of herself that she altered to fit him

As an Alba stan, it's so easy to argue that he is taking advantage of her and doesn't truly love her and that he is an old man and is using her for sex and doesn't treat her right etc

And then there are the more objective standpoints.

Because this also all depends on whether you believe they're real or not.

If you believe real, then looking at the situation you could argue either of the above, or you could argue that perhaps she didn't realize what was happening. Perhaps Chris Evans messaged her on instagram and like any young girl looking to rise up in the world, she responded. One thing led to another, they meet. And then she fell head over heels for him. So now she's this 25 year old going after the big kahuna of Hollywood, and how tf do you keep a man like that?! You can't keep him unless he wants to be kept! So what do you do? You do your research. You learn what he's like. You lean what he likes. And then you mold yourself into that person in a desperate attempt not to lose him.

Now, if you believe it's PR, there are also several ways to spin it:

One being that they're both in agreement it is strictly PR, the other being that one person is more invested in this situation than the other one is.

Strictly PR makes sense from a lot of logistical standpoints, and hey, maybe they sprinkled some spice in there, who wouldn't? That doesn't really matter bc if it is solely for PR, then there are no true feelings involved and they might both still be dating other people on the side. They tolerate each other for the sake of the arrangement.

Or two, one person is using the other for PR. Now, that would mean one person actually believes they have a deep connection while the other knows its just for now/for attention right now. I think we can all imagine what this would look like, and unfortunately, this too could also fit into this situation thats been happening ever since November.

Had they kept it quiet like the past year (where all they did was "breadcrumbing") I would have been inclined to believe the possibility that it could be real love between them.

But the fact that the PR has now been introduced in the suffocating way it has, proves that at least SOME part of this arrangement is transactional. And even if they did truly like each other, even if they are truly in love, at the end of the day, they're using each other. And for the most gross thing in the world. FAME. And maybe even some other stuff, too.

Maybe topher is using her to feel young and she is using him to raise her stature.

Who fucking knows.

I'm not inclined to say which one I believe, you guys can make your own judgements, but my point is; there is a plethora of possible situations and outcomes in this, it isn't black and white and it isn't just pr/real.

Yes, people said that since the relationship debuted in November 2022, that it is PR because on the same day or week, his PR gf's show premiered.

So amateurish. It's as if they wanted us to know it's bull...

Not even the dailymail UK readers in the comment section believed it and many of them said that they are now sure that he plays for the other team. Comments like these were upvoted a lot, so I'm not the only one with that assumption. I think he's bi though. Anyway, the buzzfeed twitter journalist Edwin seems credible to me because he is not in the Chris Evans fandom, so he isn't biased and he predicted the valentine's instagram 24 hour story. That also reminds me of the fact that his Portugal-gal has so far never appeared on his instagram grid. Even before it went business-only after his return in November 2023. It aligns with a claim from a blind item that one of his actor friends warned him to adjust the PR contract in a way so that Chris' PR bride doesn't appear permanently on the instagram grid. I bet it was Sebastian because he has his PR woman on it and seems to regret it. Like honestly, imagine having some brat that wants to use you to become famous on your public photo album. Anooooying.

In general, Chris is a two-edged sword. On one side he knows that he prefers to be a single bachelor. Just sleeping around and instead of a partner, having a dog. But he also knows that the general public expects of him to appear married. How do you say in English? He has no backbone and as a result he drowns himself in weed rather than being out and proud of being a male-sl*t. As I always mention on my blog: If we wouldn't have all these gender expectations for men, they wouldn't feel the need to make this silly stuff like being monogamous. (Despite being monogamous myself, I just don't want to deny realty and deny the true nature of the average man). I also knew men in real life who said that they only have a gf or wife for intercourse and status and can't actually stand their personalities. Not saying that this is moral but it is a truth we all need to face when we want true gender equality because not just women but also men need to be freed of society's norms. If you disagree with me, have fun watching future fake PR relationships. Your choice.

If he had married someone who was mature and didn't did anything wrong and was not craving for attention then people had supported and respected his relationship better that's what I believe.
