Since the water contains a high percentage of methane, it contaminates groundwater as it reacts with it. The water is unfit for human consumption due to high levels of contamination. Thus, more and more water treatment plants are being constructed to eliminate contaminants. Since shale gas is regarded as a game-changer in the energy sector, exploration projects are also expected to grow in the future.
