How to Maintain Reproductive Health
Maintaining reproductive health is crucial for overall well-being and quality of life. It involves taking proactive steps to ensure the health of the reproductive system through regular check-ups, a healthy lifestyle, and informed choices. Here are some essential tips to help you maintain reproductive health, including the importance of regular screenings.
1. Regular Health Screenings
One of the most important steps in maintaining reproductive health is to have regular health screenings. An STD test in Singapore is essential for sexually active individuals to detect any infections early and receive appropriate treatment. These tests are crucial for preventing complications and maintaining overall reproductive health.
2. Practice Safe Sex
Using condoms and other barrier methods during sexual activity is a key practice for protecting against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and unwanted pregnancies. Safe sex practices reduce the risk of infections such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, and HIV. Do a regular test at an HIV test clinic in Singapore if necessary. Educate yourself and your partner about safe sex methods and make informed choices to protect your reproductive health.
3. Maintain a Healthy Diet
A balanced diet rich in essential nutrients supports reproductive health. Include plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins in your diet. Specific nutrients play a vital role in reproductive health. Staying hydrated and maintaining a healthy weight also contribute to a well-functioning reproductive system.
4. Exercise Regularly
Regular physical activity helps maintain a healthy weight, reduces stress, and improves overall health, which in turn supports reproductive health. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week. Activities such as walking, swimming, and yoga are excellent choices.
5. Avoid Smoking and Limit Alcohol Consumption
Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can have negative effects on reproductive health. Smoking is linked to reduced fertility in both men and women, while excessive alcohol intake can lead to hormonal imbalances and other health issues. Quitting smoking and moderating alcohol intake are crucial steps in maintaining reproductive health.
6. Manage Stress
Chronic stress can adversely affect reproductive health by disrupting hormonal balance. Incorporate stress management techniques into your daily routine, such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, and hobbies that you enjoy. Adequate sleep is also essential for reducing stress and maintaining overall health.
7. Stay Informed About Your Reproductive Health
Educate yourself about your reproductive system and any potential health concerns. Regular visits to a healthcare provider can help you stay informed about your reproductive health. Discuss any concerns or symptoms with your healthcare provider to receive timely advice and treatment.
8. Vaccinations
Certain vaccinations can protect against infections that affect reproductive health. Ensure you are up-to-date with recommended vaccinations.
9. Monitor Menstrual Health
For women, keeping track of menstrual cycles can provide valuable insights into reproductive health. Irregularities can indicate underlying health issues. Consult with a healthcare provider if you notice any significant changes in your menstrual cycle.
10. Regular Check-ups with a Healthcare Provider
Routine check-ups with a healthcare provider are essential for maintaining reproductive health. These visits allow for early detection and management of potential issues, ensuring that any health concerns are addressed promptly.
Maintaining reproductive health requires a proactive and informed approach. Regular screenings are vital components of reproductive health care. By following these tips and staying informed, individuals can take control of their reproductive health and enjoy a healthy, fulfilling life.

All that you need to know about HIV
More than 30 different kinds of bacteria, viruses, and parasites transmit STIs or sexually transmitted infections. This can happen due to sexual contact that includes vaginal, anal, or oral sex, and the transmission can occur from mother to child during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding. Out of these 30, 8 pathogens are the ones that cause the most significant incidence of STIs. Syphilis, gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and trichomoniasis are the four that can be treated and cured. The other four incurable diseases include hepatitis b, herpes simplex virus HSV HIV, and human papillomavirus HPV. In this article, everything about HIV and HIV testing Singapore is given. HIV HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a kind of virus that affects the body's immune system. Left untreated can lead to AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). There is no effective cure for HIV once they acquire it, and they must live it for life. However, the virus can be controlled with proper medication, and people can live long healthy lives. Originate The virus that causes the infection comes from a chimpanzee in Central Africa. Studies estimate that the virus may have jumped from chimpanzees to humans in the late 1800s. The version of the virus that affects the chimpanzee is called the simian deficiency virus. The probable concept of how this virus passed to humans is that the flesh for which the chimpanzees were hunted has infected the human blood. The virus slowly transmitted from Central Africa to other parts and then into the world. STD screening Singapore is very effective in detecting the virus. Symptoms • Fever • Night sweats • Mouth ulcers • Chills • Fatigue • Sore throat • Swollen lymph nodes • Rash • Muscle aches Different stages of HIV If the virus is left untreated, the person goes through three stages. The treatment of the virus retards the progression through the three stages and delays it. During the early year of the virus treatment, the progression to stage 3 was typical compared to today's time. • Stage 1: this stage is the acute HIV infection in which the people have a large amount of the virus in their blood and are very contagious. Most people have flu-like symptoms and should get HIV testing Singapore if they feel they could have been exposed to the virus. • Stage 2: the second stage of the virus is chronic HIV infection, and this stage is also called clinical latency or asymptomatic HIV infection. People usually do not have symptoms or get sick during this face, but they are still contagious, and the virus continues to reproduce in the body. If they also start the treatment in this stage, they do not proceed to stage 3. • Stage 3: the last stage is acquired immunodeficiency syndrome or AIDS. This is the most severe stage of the infection. In this stage, people have a high viral load and can easily transmit the virus to others. The infection affects the immune system badly, as a result of which they get other kinds of infections or serious illnesses. Even though the virus cannot be treated and cured completely with proper medication, the stages can be delayed, and the person can live a long and healthy life. If you feel you have been exposed to the virus, STD screening Singapore should be done immediately.

There are already testing kits for the viral diseases AIDS, Hepatitis B and herpes. Additionally, there are available tests for syphilis, gonorrhea, Chlamydia infection and other bacterial STDs. std screening
"What occurs during STD testing" is an inquiry that is frequently posed. Individuals think it is a convoluted or difficult procedure. This isn't valid. Truly, the procedure is easy to the point that a specialist's referral isn't required. There are taking an interest labs all over the United States that enable individuals to rapidly arrange their very own STD testing and it is anything but difficult to do.
This is the thing that occurs during STD testing in a typical three-advance procedure:
Initial, an individual requests a FDA affirmed std screening singapore on the web from a taking an interest lab. Screenings for chlamydia, gonorrhea, hepatitis A, B, and C, herpes 1 and 2, HIV, and syphilis are accessible. Likewise accessible is what's known as a full board test. This screens for every one of them simultaneously and is exceptionally suggested by generally specialists.
Second, they stop in a neighborhood lab to give a pee or blood test. This is controlled by the test that is picked. Since the test was requested on the web, the center definitely recognizes what to do when they arrive. No arrangement or extra administrative work is required. The facility basically takes an example of pee or a little piece of blood and that is it. The objective of the lab is to have people in and out carefully and inside minutes.
Third, the lab breaks down the example and messages the outcomes inside 24-48 hours. The email is secret and incorporates contact data for a specialist on the off chance that anything returns positive. Quick treatment can start immediately if necessary.
Having one STD builds the danger of an individual having more than one so a full board screening is generally suggested. It is additionally suggested that the two accomplices get screened so the two of them can get quick treatment. Notwithstanding, this is what is fundamental if an individual just needs to be screened for a certain something:
A pee test is required so as to finish a chlamydia test. A lab will test the example and on the off chance that it returns positive, a specialist can recommend an anti-infection to fix it.
Pee is additionally required to finish a gonorrhea screening. On the off chance that the screening returns positive, an anti-microbial can be recommended by a specialist to fix the contamination.
Hepatitis tests (A, B, and C) all require a little blood test. A huge number of individuals are living with these infections, passing them to other individuals, and don't have any acquaintance with it. In spite of the fact that there are a few different ways to contract them, they are viewed as explicitly transmitted illnesses since they can be transmitted through sexual contact. Treatment is accessible for individuals with hepatitis.
Screenings for the herpes infections (1 and 2) require a blood examination with a little example. With the best possible treatment, these infections can be controlled and those that are determined to have herpes can lead a solid and dynamic way of life.
A little example of blood is required for a std screening also. At the point when analyzed early, this contamination can be dealt with and relieved. On the off chance that it isn't dealt with, it tends to be lethal. Ordinarily individuals don't realize they are contaminated. Side effects may not be available or they may basically be overlooked.
A HIV screening requires an example of spit, pee, or blood - relying upon the lab and the kind of test. A few tests can recognize HIV antibodies as fast as 1-3 weeks after an individual has been tainted. Treatment is accessible for the individuals who test positive for HIV.
Guys are once in a while reluctant to get STD testing since they think need to persevere through a difficult testing process that incorporates the inclusion of a cylinder in their penis. Females are at times scared of STD testing since they think it needs to include an agonizing pelvic test or the having a cylinder embedded into their urinal trench. As should be obvious, what occurs during STD testing is actually very basic and normal screenings don't need to include these difficult methods by any stretch of the imagination.

STI Testing and Sexual Health 101
The World Health Organization updated a fact sheet in August 2016 that estimated a daily acquisition of new sexually transmitted diseases at about 1 million worldwide. 1.5 million cases of Chlamydia were reported in 2015 in the United States.
In Canada, chlamydia, which is the most commonly reported infection, rose from 39,372 to 116,499 annual cases between 1998- 2015, while gonorrhea cases increased from 5076 to 19,845 within the same period. Infectious syphilis on the other hand rose from 501 to 4551 cases.
It is imperative for sexually active individuals go for annual STD testing. However, experts are warning that a large number of these Canadians are not getting tested. This increases the risk of passing on untreated infections to their partners.
While reasons for avoiding testing may include the stigma and shame attached to the affair, there is also the notion that one does not need testing because they do not show any symptoms of infection.
It is vital to note that symptoms are hardly visible within the initial stages of infection – about 70% of women do not show any signs of chlamydia. The only way therefore to verify the presence or absence of any infections is through testing.
Experts shed light on what we need to know as far as testing is concerned.
When and How Often to Get Tested?
One is advised to start going for testing as soon as they are sexually active. In addition to this, should there have been any ‘accidents’ such as a ripped condom, drunken sex, or basically unprotected sex, testing is necessary. When such incidents occur, one should consider HIV PEP, sometimes also known as the HIV morning-after pill, which works to stop HIV infection from taking hold if administered well within the 72 hour period – reducing the risk of infection by up to 90%.
There is no ideal number of times to get tested; as many times as possible is always best. A person with multiple partners might need to visit a clinic more often than one with a single partner.
There is also no ‘correct’ time to get tested- some do it at the start of a new relationship while others after relations with a partner whose prior history was vague.
What Happens During a Test?
The particular test depends on the infection being tested for. Urine samples can be taken for gonorrhea or chlamydia. The two STDs can be tested using a vaginal examination. This involves taking a swab from the cervix, or penis, rectum or throat for men.
Hepatitis, HIV or syphilis are on the other hand tested using blood tests. STIs have incubation periods; it is advisable to not be tested immediately after unprotected sex. For chlamydia or gonorrhea, the earliest window is after 2-6 days while for syphilis, it is 3-6 weeks.
Where Can One Get Tested?
Testing is free in many western countries like Canada. In Singapore, you can test in clinics like the DSC clinic where the costs has been heavily subsidised, or come to a private STD Clinic like Shim Clinic, a clinic with years of experience handling sexual health issues with a focus on privacy and confidentiality.
Symptoms
As aforementioned, sometimes the symptoms are not visible. If present however, they include;
Rash, sores or itching around the genital area
Burning or discomfort during urination
Unusual discharge with an odor from the penis or vagina
Pain in the lower abdomen
Treatment Options
Prevention is always better than cure. However, in case of infection, chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis can be treated by use of antibiotics. Herpes can be suppressed through ongoing treatment.
Super-gonorrhea, which is antibiotic resistant, is proving worrisome to experts and an injection is being relied upon, in addition to antibiotic treatment.
STDs are more common than perceived, with infections ever on the rise. Their symptoms are not always visible and therefore infected individuals remain ignorant until testing is done. The social stigma that comes with this issue must be done away with in order to encourage more people to go for STI screening.
Infections are not biased to any gender or age group, therefore STI testing is advised as long as one is sexually active. If one is screened positive for any infection, treatment is usually available. Learn about the different treatment options for different infections here.

The surrogate at that point conveys the baby until birth. She doesn't have any hereditary connections to the tyke since it wasn't her egg that was utilized.
A gestational surrogate is known as the "birth mother." The natural mother, however, is as yet the lady whose egg was prepared.

Studying Koalas Could Provide New Opportunities for the Treatment of Chlamydia
What do koalas and humans have in common? The answer may surprise you.
For one, we seem to be suffering from some of the same common STDs. In fact, numerous koalas have recently been diagnosed with chlamydia – a phenomenon that the scientific community has taken an interest in. Could the study of koalas contribute to the development of better treatments for STIs? Recent reports suggest that this may very well be the case.
How Koalas with Chlamydia Could Help Humankind
Sexually transmitted infections don’t occur just among humans. In fact, most animal species seem to be plagued by one type of STD or another.
Of all these conditions, chlamydia is the most pervasive.
In fact, biologists have noted cases of chlamydia among a wide range of mammals and even among birds.
Researchers have now pinpointed koalas as the species that could help us for the successful development of a chlamydia vaccine. Such trials are already on their way. Observing how these gentle animals will get to recover from the troublesome STD will enable researchers to eventually elevate their efforts and tackle chlamydia among humans.
The reason why chlamydia studies among koalas are so important is that the disease impacts them in profound ways. Koalas have been known to develop massive cysts and severe inflammation as a result of the infection. When untreated, chlamydia could contribute to significant and irreversible scarring of the reproductive tract and even to death.
Solving the Chlamydia Problem: The Difficulties We Face Today
While the damage that koalas may experience is so severe, the bacterium that causes chlamydia among them is virtually the same one that spreads among humans.
In humans, chlamydia is also becoming a more serious problem than it has ever been.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 127 million people across the world become infected with chlamydia over the course of a single year. Chlamydia is considered one of the primary causes of pelvic inflammatory disease and infertility among women. In addition, chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted infection among men (affecting approximately three per cent of the male population of the world).
There are antibiotic treatments for chlamydia. The problem with this condition is that chlamydia happens to be fairly sneaky. It can go undetected for years and unless a person goes in for STD testing, they would never know they have it.
The bacterium can remain inactive in the reproductive tract for months, even years at a time. Eventually, it will start causing damage to its host. By the time the infection is detected, it may be too late to reverse some of the issues that chlamydia has already caused.
This is the primary reason why the development of a reliable vaccine is so important. Because the same bacterium seems to plague both humans and koalas, it’s nothing but logical for the early vaccine development research to focus on these animals.
The History of Chlamydia Among Animals and Humans
Chlamydia has been spreading among koalas and other mammals for decades. Researchers who work with large populations of these animals often note a 100 per cent infection rate among certain populations.
Adult koalas become infected in chlamydia in the exact same way that humans do. When they get the disease, koalas could be treated with antibiotics to prevent severe problems, including blindness and death. Antibiotics, however, often affect the gut microbiome of koalas in a very negative way, contributing to further complications.
Reviewing the work of biologists reveals that the first cases of koalas with chlamydia were noted at least a few centuries ago. Some of the earliest records date back to 1798. In the late 19th century, a naturalist from Australia noted that koalas seemed to be particularly susceptible to the STD.
While chlamydia spreads among adults through sexual contact, it can also be passed on from mother to baby.
For more than 20 years now, researchers have been bringing koalas into veterinary hospitals to offer treatments and seek an adequate form of chlamydia prevention.
Over the same period of time, koala populations have declined by as much as 80 per cent in Australia. Chlamydia is currently the deadliest disease among these lovable marsupials and it’s the second most common cause of death after injuries from cars.
Putting an End to the Chlamydia Curse
While there isn’t a chlamydia vaccine right now, early detection is vital to simplify the treatment and prevent serious complications.
Chlamydia testing can be done in several ways. The most reliable option is nucleic-acid based amplification testing. It is the most sensitive test with a 90 to 95 per cent accuracy rate. There are other screening possibilities, as well, some being more readily available and more affordable.
Urine tests and genital swabs are both used for the accurate detection of the bacterium. It’s best to wait two weeks after a risky sexual encounter or a potential exposure for the bacterium to be accurately detected.
If the test comes back positive, an antibiotic treatment will be administered. Re-testing is suggested three months after the treatment to make sure that the bacterium is no longer detectable.
Chlamydia testing is readily available in Singapore through facilities like Shim Clinic which also operates as a specialised STD clinic in Singapore. The process is 100 per cent confidential. You can have all of your questions answered and you’ll receive comprehensive consultation without worrying about a thing.
Contact Shim Clinic right now to learn more or visit us during our working hours every single day to get tested for chlamydia and other common STDs.
