This post is Part 3 of the five-part meta series on the Zhang Zhehan (張哲瀚) Incident, based on what has transpired up to 2021/08/22.
1) The 2nd Sino-Japanese War (1937-45) & the Yasukuni Shrine 2) Post-War Sino-Japanese Relations; “Every Chinese should visit the Yasukuni Shrine” 3) The Summer of 2021: The Brewing Storms for One 4) My Thoughts on Zhang’s Incident, Part A 5) My Thoughts on Zhang’s Incident, Part B
3) The Summer of 2021: The Brewing Storms for One
Parts 1 and 2 are my very rough, … kindergartenish introduction to the historical background of Zhang’s incident. For the sake of brevity (please don’t laugh), there are so many things I haven’t touched on (such as the role of the U.S., the geopolitics). There are even more things I’ve likely missed from my admitted ignorance (Sorry).
I think a fair summary of what I’ve written so far would be as follows, before we move on to other sociopolitical factors related to Zhang’s incident?
It is true that the Japanese government, while having shown signs of repentance, has yet to truly face its own past.
It is also true that the Chinese government has been taking advantage of its national tragedy to fuel nationalistic sentiments, to spread hatred for the purpose of propaganda ...
... Propaganda that is highly sensitive to timing, the message the regime wants to send at the moment.
In August, 2021, Sino-Japanese relations is at a nadir. The brief thaw in early 2020, initiated by the Japanese government donating masks to Wuhan when COVID first broke out, seemed to be as old as the Chinese poem printed on the shipping boxes: 山川異域 風月同天 (“Our mountains and rivers are on different lands, but our winds and moon share the same sky”)—from the 779 BCE work of a Tang dynasty monk who had sailed to Japan as a missionary, affirming the long cultural bond between the two nations. China would give masks back to Japan.
Fast forward eighteen months later, this good will is all but gone in Chinese news, on Chinese social media. The Japanese government had just vowed to join the United States to protect Taiwan, should the Chinese government furthers its military threat towards the island — the People’s Liberation Air Forces had already intruded Taiwan’s air defence zone 393 times between January 1st and August 17th of 2021 — or should the Chinese government attempts to take over the democratic island nation by force.
Late July came, and the Tokyo Olympics presented the opportunity for the Chinese state to broadcast anti-Japanese sentiments among the general populace.
Like USSR and the Eastern Bloc before, the Communists-ruled China saw the Olympics medal count as a matter of national pride. After the Games began, the hot search turned immediately from the Henan flood to stories of the Tokyo Games’ subjectively awful organisation, alleged cheatings by the Japanese athletes, and the perceived unfairness of, in particular, Japanese judges towards the Chinese team that cost the latter more and better medals. This fervour cumulated to the cyberbullying of Japanese athletes by high-on-nationalism Chinese netizens, who brought back Japan’s past as a reason why Japan and its people should be universally hated. Reminders of the horrific brutality of the Imperial Japanese Army eighty years before the Games surfaced in Chinese social media posts. The derogatory slangs 小日本 (“Little Japan”), and 鬼子 (Guizi “demons”), the latter harking back to the nickname of the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II, populated online Olympics discussions.
Japanese netizens are aware of the derogatory terms Chinese nationalistic netizens use against them. In 2010, they fought back the 小日本 and 鬼子 insults by designing cute anime characters for these names. (Source1, Source2).
August, 2021 is not a good time to be accused of liking the Japanese.
August, 2021 is not a good time to be accused of liking the Japanese, especially if the accused is a celebrity in the c-ent industry. The ongoing Clear and Bright Campaign (清朗行動) includes, as its 8th aim, the “regulation of stars and the organisations behind them, internet behaviour of their official fan clubs”. Possibly as a welcome to the summer vacation for the country’s youth, on June 15th, 2021, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) had announced it would spend the next two months focused on rectifying the “chaos caused by fan circles” (‘飯圈’亂象).
The Kris Wu (吳亦凡) case that had exploded in July then turned the public’s attention (and imagination) squarely on c-ent and the alleged “insanity” of c-ent fandoms, particularly those of idols. Wu’s fans had been met with ridicule and cyberbullying, especially those who had tried to “save” their idol by attempting to perform, when the incident had first broken out, what is customary per Chinese fan circle culture—to drown the criticisms with their supportive messages, their defences of their favourite stars; with their offences towards the accusers and in some cases, who the fans point to as the true culprits accompanied by the necessary “evidences”. Widespread reports of Wu’s fans planning a prison break after Wu’s arrest, propagated by the state media despite the number of such fans could’ve numbered to no more than a handful, further fuelled the narrative that c-ent idol worship has become cult-like, with the fans being so brainwashed that they can no longer distinguish right or wrong.
This narrative of “fans would say or do anything to defend an idol” means that if or when accusations fall on the latter, little can be said in their defence even if the defence has its merits. Fans who make the defence are accused of being “brain-disabled” (腦殘); non-fans, of being brain-disabled fans in disguise.
Political cartoon from People’s Daily, 2021/08/02, 2 days after Kris Wu’s arrest (English translations by me). The slogan at the bottom says “The Deformed “Fan Circle Culture” has turned cold”. “Turning cold” (涼了) means to lose popularity. (Source)
Last but not least, in August 2021, the online platforms that host the content of state propaganda, of fandom talk, of c-idols’ works are also in quicksand themselves. Without getting into too much details, since earlier this year, the Chinese government has been targeting the tech giants, once considered untouchable with their significant contributions to the economy. Most international fans of c-ent are likely familiar with Tencent. Alibaba is also a major player in c-ent: it’s the owner of Youku, for example; it is also a major investor of Sina (the company in control of Weibo) and also—a piece of trivia for turtles—of Yuehua (Dd’s management company). These tech companies have been charged with antitrust violations, been the target of cybersecurity probes, accused by the state media of hurting China’s youth with “spiritual opium” in the form of video games etc, and their stock prices have been tumbling as a result.
The tech giants, and the online platforms under their ownership, have therefore been extra vigilant, extra compliant to messages from the state, in attempts to gain the government’s favour. Just a few days ago (2021/08/21), Tencent vowed to donate 7.7 billion USD to the government, heeding Xi’s call for “common prosperity” (re-distribution of wealth), adding to the 7.7 billion USD it already donated in April for the government’s “sustainable social values” program. While both donations are officially philanthropic, most political and market watchers interpret the donations as Tencent trying to achieve a less-than-philanthropic goal—to get the state regulators off its back.
Following this line of logic then, these tech giants, and their online platforms, have got to be extra quick on their feet in August 2021 to sever ties with anyone perceived to have drawn the displeasure of the government. If that anyone is a c-ent idol, the loss for removing their works and fandom content is nothing compared to the price these companies may pay if the eyes of the state regulators train upon them: the latest fine Alibaba paid for breaking the anti-monopoly law, in April, amounted to 2.8 billion USD.
All these factors considered, there are better days … far better days than the ones in August 2021, for a c-ent idol to have his Yasukuni Shrine visit become an item on Weibo’s hot search.

Is that Supa Strikers show really that great? Would I like it even if I don’t like soccer/football? (I’m asking because I’ve never seen it. In fact, your posts are the only reason I know it exists at all.)
Okay. Okay, okay I was going to work on requests during this meeting but then I saw this and I have many feelings on this show so you're getting an essay. Buckle up son. Brief History
For those not in the know, Supa Strikas is a series from South Africa that started as a futbol-themed comic in I want to say the early 2000s. It quickly gained popularity throughout most of Africa and today is published in Latin-America, South America, Africa, some parts of Europe and Asia.
Almost every continent has this comic. You cannot tell me that isn't cool and also very telling of how many people like this series.
Seeing the comic get so popular so fast, a TV show followed up in 2009 by the same name and is still going to this day. This series has been along longer than most presidential terms.
The show had a similar story with only slight character changes, and while the entirety of the 2021 season is already out, there are signs that they may be more coming out in 2022 so. Fingers crossed!
What is it about?
The story centers around Shakes, a young futbol player who has recently joined the Supa Strikas, a team based in an unspecified African country. The comic follows the team winning the Super League during different seasons, going around the world to find out new techniques, deal with teams that cheat and overcome their own inner problems as well.
The series differs from the comics in that we don't see Shakes' journey to becoming a Supa Strika and we don't get the official names for the characters either, only their nicknames. Wikipedia has their official names listed I think, but if anyone whose read the comics wishes to tell me, by all means do so.
It's a pretty straight forward storyline, with some good story consistency (characters who appear in one episode do show up again and are given consistent writing). Very episodic.
Why should I watch the series?
The series is fun. Sincerely, un-apologetically fun.
The main characters get good screen time and we get to see some fun, decently written personalities that act off each other well. The Supa Strikas is a team of himbos but different varieties of himbos and I love them for it. You do get the feeling that this is a group of people that cares for each other, not a group of characters just shoved together because the series said so.
The side-characters are also great. Some of them are a little one-note but many of them are just as crazy, if not more fun, than the main characters of the show. There's an American dude named Ninja whose entire gimmick is that he's a reality star fame-seeking dude straight out of Las Vegas and I love him. He's one of the tamer character concepts.
Coach. That is all.
There's a vast array of diverse representation. While the Supa Strikas team is the only team is they only team of mixed nationalities (South African, Jamaican, Brazilian, Spanish, etc) every team is representing a different country. There's a Brazilian Team, a Mexican Team, a Saudi Arabian Team and many others.
In connection - the Supa Strikas have players from around the world. Dancing Rasta is Jamaican, the captain of the team, an incredibly competent leader and very down-to-earth. You do have players that are a little stereotypical (North Shaw is an Australian who loves extreme sports, shocker) but are written in ways that you find yourself not minding.
It's funny. There's a lot of good moments both in writing and in the animation. As someone who got to study animation, I can say without a shadow of doubt that the team behind the character animations had no fear in pushing what they can do and making the characters feel fun.
Some of the stereotypes used in the show are used well and are written in a fairly respectful way. El Matador, a Spanish player, fills the stereotype of being a self-absorbed Spaniard. but he's also written to care for friends and to be very competent in other areas. Plus, there are other Spanish characters like Riano that are nothing like that and have distinctly different personalities. As a Spaniard, I found this to be a good writing choice. These jokes are seen less as insults and more like friendly barbs between most countries and it doesn't detract from the show.
The technology. It's a running gag that the tech used to train the guys is progressively more outrageous.
No forced romance storylines! There's no character moment where boy meets girl and then we're stuck watching this inevitable couple find reasons to not be a couple. It's nice to not have the forced hetero-normative relationships we see in a lot of other shows.
To that end, fantastic healthy male friendships! There's no "no homo" moment and the characters all have very good chemistry. Again, you feel like they're actually friends. They all have different dynamics too, so the friendships don't feel uniform and stale.
Good emotional moments.
Bromances for the win! Genuinely shocked there's not more fandom for it considering the sheer quantity of POSSIBILITIES of bromances and potential ships to work with.
It's 100% fine if you don't know anything about futbol. The show shows literally what matters, not every single little throw-in, and most times there's some world-breaking nonsense going on that distracts from that. There's literally an episode where the opposing team changes gravity on the the field to try and beat the Supa Strikas, the rules barely matter. I promise you, you don't need to know what "Offsides" means in order to watch.
The commentators. I love them both.
The episodes are varied in stories. There's ones about training, ones about exploring a different country, others where the opponents cheat, etc. There's an episode which is almost a murder mystery and I love it.
All the episodes can be found free online on Youtube on the official channel for the show. I love this creative team so much.
There's a lot of good writing choices!
What might I not like about the show?
Some people like episodic shows, some don't. For those in the latter category this may drive them away from Supa Strikas.
There's like. 4 female characters. I can see why they did that, but I can also see why that is upsetting (speaking as a woman who is very tired of the Smurfette principle). The humor may not be for everyone. That's more based on personality, because I think there's something for everyone, but there are jokes that I recognize fall quite flat.
In connection to that, the stereotypes. Like I mentioned earlier, the show utilizes and breaks some stereotypes very well. There's a character (Spenza) who is written to be the chubby comic relief that is also 9/10 times the guy who saves LITERALLY EVERYONE from trouble and gets recognized for it, for example. However, the entire Japanese team is a karate-based team with a Coach named Ura Giri who wears Chinese clothes despite being Japanese. The German team is just a military branch and, while funny, might be offensive depending on which German you ask. It can be detracting from the show.
There's some bad writing choices that can be rough, but they are episode centric.
What should I do?
Watch the show. Give it 2-3 episodes and if it doesn't grab you, okay! You tried! If it does, welcome! it's literally for free on youtube, Seasons 1 through the last number I can't remember. I watch it when I'm working on something because it's fun and gets me to laugh, you might watch it with a bowl of popcorn. Just do your own thing!
If you do like it though, come back, hit me up with talks and questions about it. Besides multydoodles I haven't found a lot of people who really are into it so come! Join us! One of us!
Hope this mini-essay helped out and that the show works out for you!

Due to delays in the finishing touches being put on the Base Culture Complex, BC, Dimensions, and Gold Star have also banded together to get some mediaplay opportunities and good media karma in the name of base by hosting a community service event each month together. Idols are encouraged to participate for good press, but they are not required to.

July 19: Volunteering opportunity at an animal shelter with BC & Gold Star idols.
July 29: Singles Magazine September issue company photo shoot [2].

GAL.ACTIC
Gal.actic turns ten this quarter, and for it, they’ll be holding two fanmeetings, one each in Seoul and Tokyo. The fanmeetings will be relaxed, with the itinerary consisting mostly of games and answering fan questions interlaced between performances of five of their past title tracks voted on by the fans to be performed beforehand (”Supa Dupa Diva”, “Would You Stay For Tea?”, “Sticky Sticky”, “A”, and “Someone Like U”). They’ll also be performing at festivals this quarter and, in August, they’ll begin to prepare for their next comeback, which is a little different than what they’ve done so far. They’ll record the single in the latter half of August and focus on choreography.
Important dates:
August 1: Performance at Suwon KT Wiz Supporters Festival in Suwon (also performing: Lipstick and Aria).
August 4: Performance at Daegu Chimaek Festival in Daegu (also performing: BEE, Lipstick, & Silhouette).
August 28: 10th Anniversary Fanmeeting at V-Hall Hongdae in Seoul.
September 4: 10th Anniversary Fanmeeting at K-Stage O! in Tokyo, Japan.
September 26: Performance at Hallyu Dream Concert in Gyeongju (also performing: Decipher, BEE, Lipstick, Knight, CHARM, Chroma Crystal, Alien, MARS, Lucid, Silhouette, Aria, Origin, Impulse, and Fuse.)
ALIEN
July is full of preparations, both for their upcoming comeback and their upcoming Japanese tour. They make their comeback in mid-August and while the songs weren’t chosen with the intention to appeal to the general public, they garner attention from more non-fans than usual and Alien finds themselves charting higher than they have since before their lawsuit. The interest they manage to gain from outside of their fandom causes some internal plan changes in Dimensions’ plans for them, but for Alien, it’s business as usual with music show promotions, fan signs, and a couple of festivals before they head out to Japan at the end of the quarter to begin their dome tour.
Important dates:
July 5: Alien Japan Dome Tour promotion materials and VCR shoot.
July 10: New Kids: Begin photo book shoot.
July 14: Alien Japan Dome Tour fittings.
July 25: "B-Day” M/V filming.
July 27: “Bling Bling” M/V filming.
August 16: Release of “Bling Bling” and “B-Day” & New Kids: Begin single album + press showcase, music show promotions continue through September 16.
August 20: Performance at Hangang Summer K-POP Festival in Seoul (also performing: BEE).
August 21: Fan sign in Mapo, Seoul.
August 22: Fan sign in Yeouido, Seoul.
September 16: End of “Bling Bling” and “B-Day” music show promotions.
September 17: Performance at Chinese International Students’ Festival (also performing: 7ROPHY, Lucid, Silhouette and Impulse).
September 18: Alien Japan Dome Tour concert at Kyocera Dome Osaka in Osaka, Japan.
September 25: Alien Japan Dome Tour concert at Seibu Prince Dome in Saitama, Japan.
September 26: Performance at Hallyu Dream Concert in Gyeongju (also performing: Decipher, BEE, Lipstick, Knight, CHARM, Chroma Crystal, Gal.actic, MARS, Lucid, Silhouette, Aria, Origin, Impulse, and Fuse.)
MARS
MARS gets the beginning of July off before they go into the studio in the later half of the month to record for their next comeback mini-album already. As usual, this means that the following month, August, is reserved for intensive choreography practice and fittings in the tail end so that they can finish preparing for their comeback in September. In September, they’ll finish off preparing the album and film the music video and teasers before they come back at the very end of the month. They come back too late in the quarter to see long-term of results for the comeback, but it seems “Twilight” will have a similar performance to their last comeback.
Important dates:
August 22: “Twilight” comeback fittings.
September 2: Raise Us photo book shoot.
September 15: “Twilight” M/V and concept teaser filming.
September 26: Performance at Hallyu Dream Concert in Gyeongju (also performing: Decipher, BEE, Lipstick, Knight, CHARM, Chroma Crystal, Gal.actic, Alien, Lucid, Silhouette, Aria, Origin, Impulse, and Fuse.)
September 29: Release of “Twilight” & Raise Us mini-album + press showcase, music show promotions continue through October 29.
September 30: Fan sign in Dongjak, Seoul.
7ROPHY
Almost as soon as “Uh Oh” promotions end, the members of 7ROPHY fly out to New York from July 4 to July 7, in part to film a special performance video. The performance video isn’t the only reason the members are in town though, as they’ll be dropping by Republic Records in the city, who Dimensions has recently partnered with to sign 7ROPHY on with for further US promotions. The deal will be announced to the press in the back half of July. As soon as they get back to Seoul, they’ll go into the studio to record their next comeback. It’s another fast turnaround, but the last comeback planned for them for the year and a second attempt at a summer hit. They’ll be getting the choreography down in July as well, so that they’re prepared for filming the MV and making their comeback in August. They’ll spend the end of August and most of September promoting the song through music shows and a few festival performances.
Important dates:
July 2: End of “Uh Oh” music show promotions.
July 5: Be Original “Uh Oh” In New York video filming.
July 20: “Dumdi Dumdi” comeback fittings.
August 1: Dumdi Dumdi photo book shoot.

UNITY
Unity is slated to come back twice in the second half of the year, first with a single and then an album that serves as a part two to the one they already released this year. They’ll record the new songs on the album (line distribution) in July, and then prepare for their single release with choreography and fittings in August while the members of the CHAMPION subunit also focus on preparing for their comeback promotions. In September, they’ll film the single MV and shoot the teaser photos to prepare to make their comeback with it early in quarter four.
Important dates:
July 26: Performance at Ulsan Music Festival in Ulsan (also performing: Decipher, Lipstick, Knight, CHARM, Aria, Impulse, Fuse, Femme Fatale, and Vive).
August 22: “90s Love” comeback fittings.
September 19: “90s Love” teaser photo shoot.
September 23: “90s Love” M/V filming.
↳ CHAMPION
The third quarter houses the bulk of their comeback promotions. After recording the single last quarter in June, they do fittings and the teaser photo shoot in July in between learning and rehearsing the single’s choreography. In August, they keep practicing their performance and film the MV, and then finally make their comeback in September, promoting through the rest of the month to the very beginning of October. Mid-month, they win their first award as a sub-unit, the Seoul Mayor Award.
Important dates:
July 15: “100″ comeback fittings.
July 28: “100″ teaser photo shoot.
August 14: “100″ M/V filming.

September 8: Pre-filming of performance on Good Morning America (to be aired: September 9).
September 15: Attendance at Newsis K-Expo awards in Seoul.
LUCID
On the heels of the success of “Love Whisper”, Lucid finishes recording the added songs for their repackage in July shortly after their comeback promotions finish. Another appearance on Immortal Songs 2 precedes that and they’ve made themselves at home after a few appearances on the show now. They don’t win, but it’s more exposure, and that’s what counts. Fittings and photo book shoots from the repackage album occur in August, the same month they’re going over the choreography for the first time with the relentless hours Dimensions requires of them to keep up their reputation for clean choreography execution. The music video is filmed two weeks before they make their comeback, and while it does well, it doesn’t quite get the attention “Love Whisper” did, becoming the first of their normal realm releases not to peak in the top ten of Gaon since their debut.
Important dates:
July 2: Fan sign in Daejeon.
July 3: Fan sign in Mapo, Seoul.
July 9: Fan sign in Dongjak, Seoul.
July 10: Fan sign in Gimpo.

The agency also launched a mission to Mars in the summer of 2020 and landed a rover on the Red Planet in May 2021.Ĭhina is also said to be working on a project to build a solar power generator in space, that would beam energy back to Earth and becoming the largest man made object in orbit. The CNSA is also building an Earth-orbiting space station where Chinese astronauts will conduct scientific experiments, similar to the crew of the International Space Station. Mission number eight will likely lay the groundwork for this as it strives to verify the technology earmarked for the project. This was done in collaboration with the European Space Agency who provided tracking information for the Chinese spaceship.Ĭhang'e-6 will be the first mission to explore the south pole of the moon and is expected to launch in 2023 or 2024.Ĭhang'e-7 will study the land surface, composition, space environment in an overall mission, according to the Chinese space authority, while Chang'e-8 will focus on technical surface analysis.Ĭhina is also reportedly working on building a lunar base using 3D printing technology and sending a future crewed mission to the surface. In November 2020 they sent the Chang'e-5 space probe to the moon to collect and return the first samples of lunar soil in 45 years. They have already sent the first lander to explore the far side of the moon - sharing photos from the part of our nearest neighbour we rarely see as part of the Chang'e-4 mission. Officials from the Chinese space agency are working to become a space superpower alongside the US and Russia. This is because the moon is tidally locked to Earth, rotating at the same rate that it orbits our planet, so the far side – or the 'dark side' – is never visible from our planet. The far side of the moon, colloquially known as the dark side, actually gets as much light as the near side but always faces away from Earth. Scientists believe the unusual rock may have formed after numerous impacts blew rock off the surface until the pointy formation was left. The moon rover spotted the sharp structure sticking out from the ground after awakening from a 14-day slumber during the dangerously cold lunar night. In February it captured images of the far side of the moon that showed an elongated 'milestone' rock on the lunar surface. Yutu 2 is now coming up to three years on the moon, having made its 'mystery hut' discovery on its 36th lunar day. The Yutu 2 rover (pictured), which almost three years ago arrived with the first spacecraft to land on the dark side of the moon, saw the object while travelling across the Von Kármán crater The samples register as 1 billion years younger than those previously found on the lunar surface, according to the researchers. The research, carried out by the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, suggests the moon was volcanically-active more recently than expected. It achieved that feat a month later and initial analysis, revealed in October this year, found that the rocks date back 2 billion years. The Chang'e 1 and 2 missions were orbiters, while Chang'e 3 landed on the near side of the moon with the first Yutu rover.īeijing also launched Chang'e-5 in November last year with the aim of returning the first moon samples to Earth in more than 40 years. Nevertheless, Chinese scientists are intrigued about the object and Yutu 2 is now set to spend the next 2-3 lunar days – the equivalent of 2-3 Earth months – travelling over to it to get a closer look.Ĭhang'e 4 was China's fourth mission to the moon and the second to send a rover. It referred to the object as a 'mystery hut' (神秘小屋/shenmi xiaowu), although this is a placeholder name rather than an accurate description of what it is thought to be. Last month it snapped pictures of a mysterious object 260 ft (80m) away to the north, just on the horizon, according to Our Space, a Chinese language science outreach channel affiliated with the China National Space Administration (CNSA). The solar-powered Yutu 2 has been traversing the 115-mile-wide (186km) Von Kármán crater ever since it landed on the moon attached to the Chang'e-4 spacecraft on January 3, 2019.

It Is Performed Based On The Oriental World Beliefs And Principles; That Is Based On The Energy Channeling Of The Divine Power. Asians Believe That, There Are Free Flowing Energies In Our Body Which Helps Us To Keep Balance And Homeostasis With In The Internal Body And The External Environments.
These Free Flowing Energies Has Their Own Specific Points Which Helps As A Medium Or Channel To Flow. These Lines Or Points Are Called Sen Lines Or Meridians.
Actually, When There Is A Blockage In The Free Flow Of Energy In These Lines, Individuals Get Diseased. Or Disease And Ailments Follow.
The Main Role Of Acupuncture Is To Release These Vital Energy Blockages And Ensure Health And Well-Being Of Individuals. It Is Commonly Used To Release Blockage And Ensure Physical, Mental And Emotional Wellnesses.

How To Do Massage
Though, Massage Has Different Techniques And Styles Of Manual Manipulations, Most Of The Time, Massage Therapists Use, One Of The Most Popular And Widely Used Classical Massage Types, I.E., Swedish Massage.
In Swedish Massage, Your Massage Therapists Will Use Long, Soft, Kneading Strokes, With Alternative Gliding, Circular, Rolling, Rocking And Taping Techniques.
In Fact, As The Focus Points Of Swedish Massage Are The Muscles, Tissues And Joints, Pressing Of These Muscles And Soft Tissues Is The Game To Effective Body Healing.
The Pressure Applied On These Muscles And Tissues May Ranges From Light, Medium To Vigorous Pressures.
Based On The Complaint Of The Client, Or Based On The Source Of Pain, Massage Therapists May Use Deep Tissue Massage Or Other Alternatives To Release These Body Pains And Tensions Alternatively.
To Do All These Manipulations, Massage Therapists Use Their Hands, Foot, Finger, Thump And Other Devices. In Addition To These, To Ease Their Body Work, Massage Therapists Use Other Additional Agents, Oils And Gels.
How To Do Acupuncture
Acupuncture Is An Invasive Procedure. To Do Acupuncture, Massage Therapists Uses A Thin, Fine Hair Like Sterile Needles Which Has The Size Of Human Hair.
Based On The Chinese Philosophy, The Target Areas Of Acupuncture Are The Energy Lines Or Acupoints. The Vital Energy Blockages Are Found In These Acupoints.
So, To Release These Energy Blockages, Massage Therapists Insert Thin Sterile Needles To These Areas. As A Result, The Pains, Stress And Agony Created Due To The Energy Blockages Will Be Released.
Same To Massage, The Purpose Of Acupuncture Is To Release Body Toxins, Reduce Stress, To Ensure Free Energy Flow And Attaining Maximum Body Relaxations.
Focus Areas For Massage And Acupuncture
Even Though, Massage And Acupuncture Have Their Own Several Different Focus Areas, Both Strives To Achieve The Same Goals, I.E., Relieving Pain, Reducing Body Stress And Boosting Body Relaxations. But, The Target Areas For Massage And Acupuncture Are Indeed Versatile.
In Massage: The Target Areas For Massage Therapies Are, The Muscles, Tissues/Connective Tissues/, Joints, Ligaments And Tendons. There Are Superficial Muscles And Deep Muscles Connected Together By An Adjacent Connective Tissues And The Fascia.
When The Massage Therapist Suspect That, The Cause Of The Client’s Pain Is Superficial, They Apply A Long, Smooth, Swedish Strokes With Alternating Gliding, Rolling And Rocking Strokes.
Whereas, When The Cause Of The Pain Seems To Emanate From Within The Deep Muscles And Tissues, Your Massage Therapists Will Use A Deep Tissue Massage, With Vigorous Manipulations.
In Acupuncture: The Focus Areas For Acupuncture Are The Deep Internal Energy Lines Or Acupoints. These Acupoints Are Found Along The Meridian Lines.
Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners Believe That, The Human Body Has More Than 2000 Acupoints Connected By Pathways Or Meridians. But, This Estimation Is Not Based On Scientific Studies And Research.
There Are Different Speculations Regarding The Number Of Acupoints Claimed By Different Individuals. But, According WHO Standard Acupuncture Point Locations, Which Was Released In 2008, There Are A Total Of 361 Acupoints In Human Body. To Read More On How To Do Acupuncture, Click Here.
Based On This, Acupuncture Massage Therapists Work Their Procedure On These Target Acupoints.
Which One Comes First? Acupuncture Or Massage?
Indeed, Massage And Acupuncture Have Their Own Independent Advantages. But, They Struggle To Achieve A Common Goal, I.E., Enhancing The Health And Well-Being Of Human Body.
In This Regard, There Are No Strict Rules That Compelled And Guides To Do This First And That Next Order. Rather, Massage Therapist Can Apply Them Alternatively Based On The Complaint Of Their Clients And On The Basis Of Their Indicated Priority.
Considering This All, If There Are No Indications To Prioritize, Massage Therapists Can Start In Either Way, I.E., Massage First And Continuing With Acupuncture Or In The Reverse Way.
In General, With No Obvious Indications To Do First, Massage Therapist Can Manipulate These Body Works In Either Way.
Side Effects Of Massage And Acupuncture
In Massage:
In Massage, There May Be Mild To Moderate Side Effects Following The Manual Manipulations. These Side Effects Are Not Manifested In All Individuals.
In Fact, Some Individuals May Show Several Signs And Symptoms Of Muscle Redness, Pain, Soreness And Irritability. These Side Effects Will Improve After A Couple Of Days Without Intervention.
In Acupuncture:
To Be Frank, Acupuncture Has Rare Or No Side Effects. As Far As, It Is Done By Skilled Acupuncture Massage Therapist, It Is Safe, No Hesitation Is Needed.
But, As It Involves Medical Procedure, I.E. Invasive Skin Penetrations To Reach The Acupoints, It May Have Some Mild Temporary Effects Like Momentary Prick, Tingling And Jingle.
But, In The Contrary, If It Is Done By Unskilled And Unexperienced Acupuncturist, There May Be Visible Side Effects That Comes Due To Wrong Doings Of The Procedure.

Where did SARS-CoV-2 come from? It’s one of the most relevant and hotly debated questions of our time, yet investigations that may reveal its answer appear to have been doomed from the start. In February 2020, a group of virologists published a letter in The Lancet, stating they “overwhelmingly conclude that this coronavirus originated in wildlife,” and calling the lab leak theory a conspiracy, adding, “We stand together to strongly condemn conspiracy theories suggesting that COVID-19 does not have a natural origin.”1The Lancet paper was instrumental in stymying open debate about whether SAR-Cov-2 leaked from a lab and resulted in those who challenged the natural origin theory being labeled as conspiracy theorists.“All debate into whether Covid-19 had man-made origins or leaked from the lab in Wuhan — the Chinese city that was ground-zero for the virus — was effectively shut down by the letter,” the Daily Mail reported.2 The letter, however, was not the result of independent investigation but, rather, a heavily conflicted PR attempt.26 of 27 Authors of Lancet Paper Had Ties to Chinese Lab Twenty-seven scientists are listed as authors of The Lancet paper, “Statement in Support of the Scientists, Public Health Professionals, and Medical Professionals of China Combatting COVID-19.”3 Twenty-six of them had ties to China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), which is at the heart of the controversy over its gain-of-function (GOF) research using bat coronaviruses. The heavy conflicts were revealed by an investigation by The Daily Telegraph newspaper and confirm the questions many experts have raised over the paper’s credibility and motives. If you look at The Lancet letter, Dr. Richard Muller, Professor Emeritus of physics at the University of California, Berkeley, stated during his testimony at the House Oversight and Reform Subcommittee on Select Coronavirus Crisis hearing, held June 29, 2021,4 they say you can dismiss a lab origin because China identified the host animal and even went so far as to praise China for its openness.“This paper, The Lancet, does not read well when we look at it 16 months later,” Muller said, noting that a host animal hasn’t been found.Investigation Details Lancet Paper’s 26 Conflicted Scientists Ronald Corley, Ph.D., a professor of microbiology at Boston University, is the only scientist that was not found to have ties to WIV. A sampling of the more than two dozen other scientists that do have links — uncovered by The Telegraph investigation — are revealed below:5Peter Daszak — Peter Daszak, EcoHealth Alliance president, is a name that comes up often, because Daszak’s EcoHealth Alliance funded controversial GOF research at WIV. Further, NIAID, a part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, gave funding to the EcoHealth Alliance, which then funneled it to WIV.6Daszak was also made a commissioner of The Lancet Commission on COVID-19, but once his extreme conflict of interest was been made public, he was recused7 from the commission.8 The investigation revealed that five other signatories also worked for the Lancet Commission on COVID-19.9Daszak declared no competing interests in The Lancet paper, but in an update published June 21, 2021, The Lancet stated, “Some readers have questioned the validity of this disclosure, particularly as it relates to one of the authors, Peter Daszak.”10 The journal invited the authors to “reevaluate their competing interests,” and Daszak suddenly had much more to say about his collaborations with China.11In an email revealed by a FOIA request, Daszak stated that he composed The Lancet paper after his “collaborators” in China asked for a “show of support.”12 Daszak is also the treasurer of the Global Virome Project, which is partnered with EcoHealth Alliance. Its goal is to identify potential zoonotic viral threats, taking over from the former Predict project.Daily Mail noted, “The Predict project was also found to have part-funded contentious work by Wuhan researchers on bat coronaviruses, which were altered to see if they
could infect humans. The funds for the research were provided by the EcoHealth Alliance.”13Jeremy Farrar — Jeremy Farrar, director of the Wellcome Trust, has a position on the U.K.’s Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies, which advises the government on COVID-19, as well as a board seat with the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, which gave $1 billion to COVID-19 vaccine development.14Farrar has also published work with the head of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, George Gao, Ph.D., who he refers to as an “old friend.”15 Gao helped launch the Global Virome Project and has been linked to Shi Zhengli, Ph.D., the director of WIV’s Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases, also known as “bat woman,” who has been studying bat-borne viruses since 2004, including SARS-like coronaviruses.16 Daily Mail reported:17“Her team discovered a virus in 2013, which is the closest ever previously found to Sars-Cov-2 - the virus that causes Covid-19. Two other signatories — Dr Josie Golding and Professor Mike Turner — are known to have current or past connections with the Wellcome Trust. Dr Golding is the Trust's Epidemics lead, while Prof. Turner is a Parasitology expert at the University of Glasgow, and formerly worked with the Trust.”Linda Saif — Linda Saif, a microbiology expert at Ohio State University, was a speaker at a May 2017 workshop in Wuhan, that was organized in part by WIV. Other speakers at the workshop included Shi and Gao. Saif spoke on the topic of animal coronaviruses.18John Mackenzie — John Mackenzie, a tropical infectious disease expert at Curtin University in Perth, Australia, was a signatory on The Lancet paper, but he did not disclose that he was also a committee member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of WIV’s Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases.19Kanta Subbarao — Kanta Subbarao, a virology expert from the University of Melbourne, Australia, former chief of NIAID’s Emerging Respiratory Viruses Section, spoke at a 2016 Wuhan conference about emerging diseases. The conference was organized, in part, by WIV.Ralph Baric — Five of The Lancet paper’s signatories have published articles with Ralph Baric, whose name was omitted from the paper, but who has a significant tie to it nonetheless. Baric, Ph.D., of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, developed humanized mice used in GOF research by WIV.20Baric worked closely with Zhengli and COVID-19 vaccine maker Moderna, and together with NIAID, sent mRNA coronavirus vaccine candidates to Baric at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill December 12, 2019 — prior to the pandemic, raising significant red flags.21At the time The Lancet statement was released in February 2020, Daszak had advised Baric against adding his signature because he wanted to “put it out in a way that doesn't link it back to our collaboration so we maximize an independent voice.”22 Several Signatories Have Reversed Their Positions After publicly suggesting that SARS-CoV-2 came from a natural origin — and any talk to the contrary a conspiracy theory — several of The Lancet paper’s original signatories have reversed their positions and are now calling for a full investigation into COVID-19’s origins. This includes Peter Palese of the Icahn School of Medicine in New York, who told MailOnline in June 2021, “'I believe a thorough investigation about the origin of the Covid-19 virus is needed. A lot of disturbing information has surfaced since the Lancet letter I signed, so I want to see answers covering all questions.”23Signatory Stanley Perlman from the University of Iowa similarly said, 'It is difficult to eliminate a possible lab leak as part of the process, so this still needs to be considered.'24 Bernard Roizman, a microbiology expert at the University of Chicago, who also signed the paper has since stated he believes SARS-CoV-2 was “released by ‘sloppy’ scientists.”25Yet, the signatories have not come clean about their own conflicts of interest. When The Lancet published its June addendum
disclosing Daszak’s conflicts, it invited the other signatories to also update their competing interests. Richard Ebright, a molecular biologist with Rutgers University, told The Telegraph:26“Incredibly, only Daszak appears to have done so. Conflicts of interest were not reported for any of the other 26 signers of the letter — not even those with obviously material undisclosed conflicts such as EcoHealth employees and Predict contractors.”An Orchestrated Campaign to Control the Narrative The Lancet paper was just one piece of the campaign to control the narrative around COVID-19’s origins. Another one of the major pieces of propaganda is "The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2,"27 a paper published in Nature Medicine in March 2020 that became the preeminent "proof" that SARS-CoV-2 had a natural origin and couldn't possibly have come from a lab.It was later revealed that Dr. Anthony Fauci, NIAID director, Farrar and Dr. Francis Collins, NIH director, had a hand in the paper, as one of its authors wrote a March 6, 2020, email to the trio and colleagues, thanking them for their "advice and leadership."28According to Charles Rixey, a COVID-19 analyst who combed through 100,000 pages of FOIA documents and reviewed more than 1,000 research articles, however, the five editors of the Nature Medicine paper, who he refers to as “the Proximals,” were aware of the existence of a furin cleavage site (FCS) on the virus as early as February 1, 2020, the day a conference call was organized by Farrar and Fauci “to address several aspects of the SARS-CoV-2 genome that pointed towards an artificial origin, by means of generating adaptive changes through passaging and/or direct manipulation of the genome.”29After the February 1, 2020, conference call, a February 3 meeting was held by Fauci, presidential science adviser Kelvin Droegemeier, Chris Hassell, senior science adviser for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and National Academies’ policy director Alexander Pope, during which the “group slapped the table on what the narrative was going to be — not what the science indicated.” Rixey wrote:30“Therefore, the signal was sent to all scientists that pursuing the lab origins angle meant career death (no academy membership), no funding (via Fauci or Ross or Farrar), no publication in the big 4 journals during the historic pandemic (NEJM, Science, The Lancet & Nature [by virtue of their publishing of the tone-setting pieces]), no executive patronage for things like generic drugs, etc.”Many have stated that we’ll never truly know the origin of SARS-CoV-2, short of China confessing or a whistleblower coming forward, but as Muller stated during his testimony, “We have a whistleblower, the virus itself.”31 Even as scientists who have worked closely on GOF research with WIV have tried to shut down investigations into the lab leak theory, the virus may ultimately reveal the truth.SARS-CoV-2 has a unique trigger on the surface called a furin cleavage site and a unique code in the genes for that site called a CGG-CGG dimer; these markers do not exist in natural coronaviruses but are known to have been used in GOF research.32Dr. Steven Quay, who holds 87 patents across 22 different fields of medicine and invented seven FDA-approved medicines, believes that SARS-CoV-2 came from a laboratory in China. His Bayesian analysis of SARS-CoV-2 origins revealed that finding a CGG-CGG codon pair in the furin site of SARS-CoV-2 is “a highly improbable event,” and this can be used to adjust the likelihood that SARS-CoV-2 is of zoonotic origin to only 0.5%, while the likelihood of laboratory origin is 99.5%.
“The Truth About COVID-19” exposes the hidden agenda behind the pandemic, showing the countermeasures have nothing to do with public health and everything to do with ushering in a new social and economic system based on totalitarian, technocracy-led control. So, it’s not misinformation they fear. It’s the truth they want to prevent from spreading. Pick up a copy of this best-selling book today before it’s too late.
Sen. Warren Threatens Amazon to Ban ‘The Truth About COVID-19’
Since the publication of my latest book, “The Truth About COVID-19,” which became an instant best seller on Amazon.com, there’s been a significant increase in calls for censorship and ruthless attacks against me.
Most recently, so-called “progressive” U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., in an outrageous, slanderous and basically unconstitutional attempt to suppress free speech, sent a letter to Amazon, demanding an “immediate review” of their algorithms to weed out books peddling “COVID misinformation.”
Warren specifically singled out “The Truth About COVID-19” as a prime example of “highly ranked and favorably tagged books based on falsehoods about COVID-19 vaccines and cures” that she wants to see banned from sale.
Two days later, U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., followed in Warren’s footsteps, sending letters to Facebook and Amazon, calling for more prolific censorship of vaccine information. Even President Joe Biden has recently used a debunked report as his sole source to call for my censorship.
Sadly, these attacks are being levied by the very people elected to safeguard democracy and our Constitutional rights. Essentially, what they are calling for is modern-day book burning. This is a democracy, not a monarchy.

2021 Ox year - Part 2 of the animal sign horoscope - Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig, and Rat
2021 Ox year - Part 2 of the animal sign horoscope — Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig, and Rat
This article continues part 1 of the Chinese animal sign analysis for the 2021 year of the Ox. Read part 1 HERE for the animal signs of Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, and Horse.
This analysis is based on the 12 traditional Chinese stars. Each star goes to a different animal sign in different years. The Tai Shui star is always in the animal sign of the year. For the Ox year, Tai Shui goes to the Ox sign.
Since we are only talking about one star for each sign, the method may be oversimplified. We will discuss more detailed stars in the near future. Each person is different even with the same animal sign. The luck of other people close to you also plays a big part. We all influence each other in complicated ways and don’t forget we all have the power to make decisions and change our luck.
Watch the video about part 2 of the 2021 Ox year animal signs
The Chinese Zodiac Wheel
The 12 animal signs always follow the same order, and the zodiac wheel below shows the basic relationships, including the opposite animal sign (180 degrees), 60, 90, and 120-degree signs. This is similar to western astrology.
In traditional Feng Shui, the Rat is related to the North, the Horse is related to the South, the Rabbit is related to the East, and the Rooster is related to the West.
The 12 Stars from the Traditional Chinese calendar
Here are the names of the 12 stars and the direct translation. The 4 auspicious stars include Tai Yang, Tai Yin, Long De, and Fu De.
This chart below shows the 12 animal signs and their related stars in the 2021 year of the Ox.
Animal sign and birth year
Most of us know the animal sign based on the lunar year. For the purpose of fortune-telling and Feng Shui, the beginning of the lunar year starts with “Li Chun” or the “Start of the Spring”. This is one of the 24 solar terms in the lunar calendar. The “Li Chun” date is typically around February 4th or 5th on a western calendar. So, if your birthday is before that date, your animal sign is the same as the previous year. For example, if your birthday is in January 2020, your animal sign is Pig and not Rat. If your birthday is February 4th or 5th, it is better to check the actual lunar calendar to find the “Li Chun” date of the year. There are a lot of online apps or calculators you can search for. It makes the process much easier with the use of technology.

WHO-China Scientists Warn of Missing Key Studies Window
— Global Times Staff Reporters | Aug 25 2021
Illustration: Liu Rui/Global Times
The US has failed at COVID-19 origins tracing and its intelligence report on the virus origins was a failed set-up and buck-passing report, although the full report has not been released yet, insiders said, after US media reports said the report was "inconclusive" in determining the cause of the pandemic.
Some international scientists who believe the critical window for key scientific study on the coronavirus origins is closing, stressed that the US' intelligence report having no new evidence has been expected by most scientists around the world, as its report was not conducted based on science and not in cooperation with China and other countries.
The Global Times learned from sources that the report tried to smear China as the culprit of the pandemic using second-hand and unreliable evidence to prove the "lab leak" theory, a hypothesis even US scientific institutions and allies find far-fetched, and to achieve its political purpose, the US also sought to clamp down on scientists and the WHO, rope in its allies, and coerce China's neighbors to join in its smear campaign against China.
At Wednesday's media briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said that US' virus tracing report compiled by its intelligence agencies was not for the truth of the virus origins, but to shift blame to China for its own mishandling of COVID-19 pandemic, and "such a set-up and political report cannot, of course, draw any scientific conclusions," Wang said.
He said that US officials' claim that there's a lack of information from China, was just an excuse to cover up the US' failure in virus tracing using intelligence.
Wang's remarks were made after US media reports cited US officials as saying that the intelligence report didn't yield a definitive conclusion on whether the coronavirus jumped to humans naturally, or via a lab leak, in part because of the "lack of detailed information from China."
A scientist with deep knowledge of COVID-19 origins tracing told the Global Times on Wednesday on condition of anonymity that the lack of new evidence from US intelligence analysts is what most scientists around the world expected, as tracing the origins of emerging diseases is difficult work that requires deep scientific understanding, experience working in the field and a close collaboration with the country that experienced the first known cases.

"The sooner we remove the political interference, and get back to allowing our scientists to work collaboratively with China, the sooner we'll find out exactly how this virus emerged," the scientist said.
Marion Koopmans, head of the viroscience department at the Erasmus MC Rotterdam in the Netherlands and a member of World Health Organization (WHO)-China joint study on virus origins, told the Global Times that she does not expect that US' report to provide conclusive answers without additional studies that need to be conducted in China and elsewhere.
In May, US President Joe Biden announced a jaw-dropping decision, demanding US intelligence officers look into the origins of the coronavirus, and he gave the task a deadline of 90 days.
Since the US kept insisting that the lab leak hypothesis should not be ruled out despite waves of scientists globally reiterating their natural origins stances, China on Tuesday for the first time officially demanded the WHO investigate Fort Detrick lab and the University of North Carolina through diplomatic channels, as Chen Xu, Permanent Representative of China to the UN Office at Geneva and other International Organizations in Switzerland, on Tuesday sent a letter to Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the WHO, asking the WHO to conduct an investigation in the two US places for the next round of virus origins investigation in the spirit of fairness and justice. The letter is attached to a petition signed by more than 25 million Chinese netizens sent to the WHO demanding an investigation into the Fort Detrick lab.
After Chen submitted the letter, Fu Cong, director general of the Department of Arms Control and Disarmament of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, sorted out several mysteries that the international community is concerned about the two labs at a Wednesday media briefing, and once again urged the US not to politicize the issue.
Scapegoating China cannot whitewash the United States, Fu said.
The window is closing
As the US has been exhausting all means to lure and coerce some scientists to serve its political agenda to suppress China by hyping unfounded topics like "China refuses to join the virus origins tracing work," most scientists are dissatisfied with and oppose the US in politicizing the issue, the Global Times learned from a source.
In a rare move, the international scientists of WHO's SARS-CoV-2 origins tracing mission to China on Wednesday warned that the window for key scientific study is closing due to months-long stalled follow-up work since WHO's March report, stressing the urgency for scientific collaborative study while removing political interference which has focused on the lab leak theory, tried to discredit scientists and drive a wedge among them.
In the most recent paper published in Nature, 11 international scientists including Dutch virologist Koopmans and EcoHealth Alliance president Peter Daszak who undertook a 28-day mission to Wuhan, Central China's Hubei Province in January on the global study of virus origins and completed a WHO report in March, said the March report was "meant to be the first step" in a process that has stalled. It warned the window of opportunity for conducting this crucial inquiry is closing fast, and any delay will render some of the studies biologically impossible. "Understanding the origins of a devastating pandemic is a global priority, grounded in science," the piece said.
Koopmans told the Global Times on Wednesday that the authors of the Nature paper wanted to draw attention to the long delay between the initial work and the start of follow-up studies. "We now are approaching September, and there is no indication of when follow-up work could start. We feel that is taking too long and wanted to express that concern," she said.
In explaining the urgency of the next stage origins tracing work, Koopmans mentioned some time-sensitive studies such as the serological studies to stored blood bank samples collected in the later months of 2019 to identify the earlier pockets of cases.
She said WHO scientists talked to Hubei's blood banks during their stay and agreed to keep the samples, but "we also recommended similar studies in other regions inside and outside of China with early evidence for cases using the same methods, and that has not been arranged and may become impossible," she said.
Another author of the paper who requested anonymity told the Global Times on Wednesday that as time goes by, samples will get misplaced or degraded, people's memories will fade and antibodies will wane, making tracing work harder.
WHO-China team scientists warn window for virus origins inquiry closing fast amid political interference, hype of 'lab leak' theory. GT staff reporters | August 25, 2021 | Illustration: Liu Rui/GT
Moreover, the origins tracing work is now closely connected with international relations. The anonymous author said the sooner we get closer to an answer on origins, the sooner international relations will begin to improve as the "focus on the lab leak theory may mean on-the-ground work gets held up by political arguments."
Ever since the scientists completed and released their report of the China mission in March, US-led Western countries have geared up political manipulation to smear China using the "lab leak" theory, which was deemed as extremely unlikely in the report, discredited the report and pressed international scientists to change their natural hypothesis views.
The anonymous author, also a team member of the WHO-China joint study team, said it's clear political messaging and interference have tried to undermine the report's findings, discredit scientists involved, and try to drive a wedge among them.
"We stand united as a team behind the work we did with our colleagues in China. We reaffirm our confidence in the results of our analyses on which pathways are most likely and which are not, and strongly believe in the importance of keeping this work as a scientific collaborative study, and removing political influences," he said.
Priorities for follow-up study
In the paper, the WHO scientist stated six priorities for follow-up studies to lead from the initial studies in China, highlighting critical trace-back of people and animals in regions inside and outside China that have the earliest evidence for circulation of the virus, and targeted surveys of possible reservoir or intermediate hosts. But it did not include the "lab leak" theory, a sharp contrast with the WHO's next-phase origins-tracing work proposal asking for "audits of laboratories in Wuhan" and Biden's 90-day intelligence report.
Koopmans said that the paper did not include "lab leak" hypothesis as initial work did not provide evidence for involvement of a laboratory, and in the paper, scientists said since the March report, "We have publicly called for any data supporting the lab leak hypothesis to be published and submitted to the WHO. None has, so far."
Chinese health officials and scientists have rejected repeatedly virus origins studies driven by "lab leak" hypothesis.
Liang Wannian, the team leader of the Chinese side of the WHO-convened joint expert team on origins tracing, told a media briefing this month that scientists reached the consensus of "extremely unlikely" after thorough study in Wuhan on the lab leak hypothesis, which should not be included in the next-phase study, considering the conclusions and evidence from the joint report.
In fact, the next-phase study should be carried out in multiple places worldwide covering countries such as where the Chinese horseshoe bat and pangolins reside, nations that lack sufficient testing, places with animal and human being data tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 and who supplied Wuhan Huanan market through cold-chain logistics, Liang said.

How Scientists Muzzled the COVID Lab Origin Data Analysis by
Dr. Joseph Mercola Fact Checked
August 04, 2021
Why I Am Deleting All Content After 48 Hours View More
Story at-a-glance
In its September 2019 report, the Global Preparedness Monitoring Board — a joint arm of the World Health Organization and the World Bank — warned that technological advances “allow for disease-creating micro-organisms to be engineered or recreated in laboratories,” and that the release of such organisms could cause greater devastation than a natural outbreak
On the Board are Sir Jeremy Farrar (director of the Wellcome Trust) and Dr. Anthony Fauci (director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, NIAID), both of whom have defended the zoonotic origin theory for SARS-CoV-2 and helped suppress the lab-leak theory
February 1, 2020, Farrar set up a confidential conference call with a dozen individuals, including Fauci. Two days later, WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus made a public call for censorship of “misinformation”
Five days after that call, Peter Daszak circulated the first draft of a scientific consensus statement that eventually got published in The Lancet, and thereafter was used by mainstream media and fact checkers everywhere to “debunk” any and all evidence of a lab leak
Six weeks after Farrar’s group call, several of the participants published a commentary in Nature Medicine, in which they stated they “do not believe that any type of laboratory-based scenario is plausible”
In the July 22, 2021, article,1 “Did Scientists Stifle the Lab-Leak Theory,” foreign reporter and columnist for Unherd, Ian Birrell, analyzes the circumstances that led to a near-complete blackout of questions about SARS-CoV-2’s origin.
In September 2019, the Global Preparedness Monitoring Board issued a warning that a new infectious disease was poised to spread around the world, and that nations were ill prepared for such an event.
The Global Preparedness Monitoring Board is a joint arm of the World Health Organization and the World Bank — two technocratic entities that aren’t always working in the best interest of humanity as a whole.
On the 15-person Board are Sir Jeremy Farrar (director of the Wellcome Trust), Dr. Anthony Fauci (director of the NIH’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, NIAID) and George Fu Gao, director-general of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
Technocrat-Led Board Predicted Manmade Pandemic
As noted by Birrell, the board’s warning was “astonishingly prescient,” as SARS-CoV-2 emerged in December 2020. Importantly, the board did not necessarily focus its prediction on the emergence of natural zoonotic diseases but, rather, warned of technological and scientific advances that “allow for disease-creating micro-organisms to be engineered or recreated in laboratories.”
According to the board, accidental release of such manmade organisms could actually be far more devastating than a natural outbreak. “Accidental or deliberate events caused by high-impact respiratory pathogens pose global catastrophic biological risks,” the board stated in its September 2019 report, titled “A World At Risk.”2 In passing, the report also mentioned the need to control the flow of information:
“A deliberate release would complicate outbreak response; in addition to the need to decide how to counter the pathogen, security measures would come into play limiting information-sharing and fomenting social divisions.”
Same Board Members Denied Possibility of Manmade Pandemic
Despite the Board’s recognition that manmade pathogens pose a significant threat, some of its board members — Fauci and Farrar in particular — have played central roles in roundly dismissing the possibility that SARS-CoV-2 leaked from a lab. As reported by Birrell:3
“Farrar was a central figure behind two landmark documents published by influential science journals that played a key role in shutting down discussion of the lab leak hypothesis by branding it conspiracy theory.
These statements, signed and promoted by leading figures in the scientific establishment, pushed an idea that the pandemic was a natural occurrence by arguing against the plausibility of ‘any type of laboratory-based scenario.’ Critics say this ‘false narrative’ set back understanding of the disease for more than a year.”
In his book, “Spike: The Virus vs. The People — the Inside Story,” Farrar praises China for its pandemic response at the outset of the pandemic. This despite the fact that the Communist dictatorship is known to have silenced doctors who wanted to warn the public, and allowed the annual Chinese New Year’s celebration to proceed, thereby ensuring massive spread as people from all parts of China and across the world gathered.
Did Fauci and Farrar Collude to Suppress Lab-Leak Theory?
Birrell goes on to detail how Farrar and Fauci reacted to early reports suggesting the virus had telltale signs of gain-of-function. Emails4 obtained via freedom of information act (FOIA) requests reveal Fauci received a Science magazine article detailing the work of Peter Daszak (EcoHealth Alliance) and Shi Zhengli at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV).
“The article discussed controversies over risky ‘gain of function’ experiments, including mention of a 2015 paper by Shi and a U.S. expert on modification of a Sars-like bat virus to boost infectivity to humans,” Birrell writes.5
“Emails released through freedom of information requests show Fauci instantly circulated the article to U.S. officials and contacted Farrar saying it was ‘of interest to the current discussion’ …
[Scripps virologist Kristian] Andersen, when sent the Science article at the end of January, admitted a close look at the genetic sequences of Sars-CoV-2 showed that ‘some of the features (potentially) look engineered’ and that other experts agreed the genome was ‘inconsistent with expectations from evolutionary theory’ …
The Wellcome boss then set up a conference call for the pair of them with 11 other experts from around the world, warning their discussions were ‘in total confidence’ and information ‘not to be shared’ without prior agreement.
Farrar also sent Fauci a link to an article on ZeroHedge … that tied a Wuhan researcher to the virus outbreak. The site was banned the next day from Twitter …”
While we don’t know the full details of what was discussed during that February 1, 2020, phone call, Birrell points out what we do know. For example, we know they discussed contacting the WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, and that two days later, Ghebreyesus made a public call for censorship of misinformation.
Five days after that call, Daszak also circulated the first draft of a scientific consensus statement6 that eventually got published in The Lancet, and thereafter was used by mainstream media and fact checkers everywhere to “debunk” any and all evidence of a lab leak.
The dam is breaking. And with the surging floodwaters, comes a stunning realization: Almost across the board, our elite institutions got the most important question about COVID wrong. ~ James Meigs
The statement, signed by 27 experts, including Farrar, condemned “conspiracy theories suggesting that Covid-19 does not have a natural origin.” A FOIA request revealed Daszak was the mastermind behind that Lancet statement7 — which, by the way, presented no actual evidence of natural origin — and that he wanted to make sure it could not be identified as being from a single individual or organization.
Six weeks after Farrar’s group call, four of the participants on the call — including Andersen — also published a commentary in Nature Medicine, titled “The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2,”8 in which they stated they “do not believe that any type of laboratory-based scenario is plausible.”
“This statement in a world-renowned journal, which has been accessed 5.5 million times, further depressed debate of alternative theories on the origins, despite being challenged by a few brave voices in the scientific community,” Birrell writes.9
Unanswered Questions
In his book, “Spike,” which was published July 22, 2021, Farrar admits he had deep concerns about the “huge coincidence” of SARS-CoV-2 emerging in a city with a biosafety level 4 (BSL4) laboratory that just so happens to specialize in collection, storage and research of bat coronaviruses. Birrell writes:
“The new coronavirus ‘might not even be that novel at all,’ he thought. ‘It might have been engineered years ago, put in a freezer, and then taken out more recently by someone who decided to work on it again. And then, maybe, there was … an accident?’
He was so concerned that he confided in Eliza Manningham-Buller, then the Wellcome Trust chair and a former head of the MI5 intelligence service, who told him to start taking precautions such as avoiding putting things in emails and using a burner phone for key conversations.
So what changed his mind so firmly he started signing letters and tweeting about alleged conspiracy theories? When I asked Farrar to share the evidence that set his mind at rest, he pointed to the Nature Medicine article. Yet his office told me later he helped ‘convene’ these five authors.
They also insist that ‘the weight of available data and scientific evidence continues to point towards zoonotic origins.’
But scientists have found no hard evidence on the pandemic origins, despite testing 80,000 samples on animals to find a natural link, while China has made increasingly ludicrous claims over the origins as well as covering up the outbreak, lying over the date of first cases and taking offline Wuhan’s key database of samples and viral sequences.”
In his book, Farrar also discusses specific concerns brought forth by Andersen in January 2020. Recall, in April 2020, Andersen published “The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2” with four other co-authors. But in January, three things alarmed him about the virus:
The receptor binding domain, which is like a perfect key for entering human cells
The furin cleavage site, which is not found in other bat coronaviruses and would be expected “if someone had set out to adapt an animal coronavirus to humans by taking a specific suit of genetic material from elsewhere and inserting it”
A scientific paper describing the use of that very technique to modify the original SARS virus. Andersen allegedly thought it “looked like a how-to manual for building the Wuhan coronavirus in a laboratory”
Evidence of Collusion
Before Farrar’s February 1, 2020, call, Andersen was “60 to 70%” convinced SARS-CoV-2 was a lab creation, according to Farrar’s account. Yet Andersen also told Farrar he did not want to be a front man for the lab leak theory. Birrell writes:10
“Anderson told [Farrar] that he suddenly realized he might be the person who proved the new virus came from a lab. ’I didn’t necessarily want to be that person,’ he said.
‘When you make big claims like that you had better be sure that you can conclude something is based on evidence and not on speculation.’ So according to Farrar, then five experts wrestled with the evidence and, the following month, they declared in Nature Medicine that Sars-CoV-2 was ‘not a laboratory construct or a purposefully manipulated virus’ …
They offered the circumstantial evidence that RaTG13, the closest known coronavirus to Sars-CoV-2, had different binding mechanisms — yet similar ones were found on pangolins, so ‘the ingredients … were out in the wild. They did not need to have escaped, or been unleashed, from a containment lab.’”
The problem with this argument is that they have no firm evidence of natural emergence. What’s more, while Andersen and co-authors claim they spent many sleepless nights carefully analyzing and evaluating the lab leak theory before finally dismissing it, in a May 2021 interview,11 co-author Robert Garry admitted the first draft of the Nature Medicine paper was finished February 1, 2020 — the day of Farrar’s conference call, which included four of the five co-authors.
Fauci’s email trove also reveals Farrar sent Fauci a rough draft of the Nature Medicine paper three days after that conference call, urging him to keep it confidential. That same day, Andersen also told another group of experts that the data “conclusively show” there was no engineering involved. “So far from having ‘many sleepless nights,’ these scientists seem to have changed their minds amazingly fast and reached fresh conclusions,” Birrell writes.
Elite Institutions Have Subverted the Truth
Another article addressing the subversion of truth by some of our most trusted scientific institutions is James Meigs’ Commentary piece, “The Lab-Leak-Theory Cover-Up.”12
“The dam is breaking,” Meigs writes. “And with the surging floodwaters, comes a stunning realization: Almost across the board, our elite institutions got the most important question about COVID wrong.
Worse, they worked furiously to discourage anyone else from getting it right. The leading scientific experts turned out to be spinning the truth. Our public-health officials put their political agenda ahead of any scientific mandate.
And the press and social-media giants eagerly played along, enforcing strict rules about which COVID topics were acceptable and which had to be banished from the national conversation.
During the Trump years, we heard a lot of hand-wringing about the public’s unwarranted ‘distrust’ of our society’s designated experts and leaders. But to be trusted, people and institutions have to be trustworthy.
The COVID-19 pandemic revealed a profound corruption at the heart of our expert class. The impact of that revelation will reverberate for years to come.”
As noted by Meigs, leading institutions not only declared the lab-leak theory incorrect, but also “dangerous and malicious,” and went to extraordinary lengths to “protect” the population from hearing anything that might infect their minds with such wrongthink.
In the end, all such efforts failed. Despite the ridicule, personal attacks and censorship, common sense and logic have managed to break through and, today, the failures of our most prestigious science institutions are laid bare.
Government Only Pays Lip Service to the Truth
The lab-leak question has also revealed corruption within other cherished institutions, such as the U.S. intelligence community. Two separate teams, one in the State Department and another under direction of the National Security Council, have been tasked with investigating the origin of SARS-CoV-2.
In Commentary, Meigs points out that both teams report facing intense internal pushback, according to Vanity Fair reporter Katherine Eban. Their own institutions urged them “not to open a ‘Pandora’s Box,’” which suggests the State Department and the NSC aren’t particularly interested in the truth. Of particular concern was the role the U.S. government may have played by funding gain-of-funding research on bat coronaviruses at the WIV.
While the ramifications of the truth might be extremely uncomfortable for some, if we allow individuals to shirk responsibility, the ramifications of that course of action could ultimately turn out to be lethal for mankind.
If U.S. institutions such as the NIAID funded gain-of-function research that resulted in a pandemic, we need to know, so we can close loopholes and implement better safeguards. I’ve argued that gain-of-function research that makes pathogens more dangerous to humans ought to be banned altogether, to prevent the creation of a truly lethal pandemic.
But even if we don’t ban it, we need to know what government agencies have been doing with our tax dollars, and decide whether they’ve been put to good use or not. In my opinion, creating pathogens capable of killing us is hardly a good use of our taxes, and should be stopped.
Origin Story Shows Importance of Independence
Most people want to trust government, academic and scientific institutions, and the media. Unfortunately, if the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that these institutions aren’t worthy of unequivocal trust.
They say they’re trustworthy, and they insist we must trust them, but their actions tell a different story. The pandemic has also shown us just how important it is for investigators, researchers and reporters to be truly independent. As noted by Meigs:13
“The story of why the line of inquiry survived is not an account of leading scientists and health organizations dutifully parsing the evidence.
Instead, it is largely the story of little-known researchers — many working outside the bounds of elite institutions — who didn’t let the political implications of their findings derail their efforts.
Much of what we know today about the Wuhan Institute’s risky research is thanks to these independent skeptics who challenged the institutional consensus. Some risked their careers to do so.”
One key group of self-organized researchers is the Decentralized Radical Autonomous Search Team Investigating COVID-19 (DRASTIC). They’ve made a number of important discoveries that have kept the lab-leak theory alive.
Massive Collusion to Suppress Inquisitiveness
“Throughout the pandemic we’ve often heard admonitions to ‘follow the science.’ Looking back we can see that few scientists — and even fewer journalists — really did,” Meigs notes. Among the few journalists who did tackle the elephant in the room were former New York Times reporters Nicholas Wade and Donald McNeil Jr.
“Notice the irony here: While two refugees from the New York Times were publishing deep, well-reported articles on an alternative outlet, the Times itself was still mostly ignoring the Wuhan-lab story,” Meigs writes.14
“One of its current pandemic specialists, Apoorva Mandavilli, was on Twitter urging everyone to ‘stop talking about the lab leak’ … When the pandemic hit last year, we were all urged to fall in line and listen to the authorities. Scientists and bureaucrats were elevated to near-divine status.
‘Let us pray, now, for science,’ Times tech columnist Farhad Manjoo wrote last February. ‘Pray for reason, rigor and expertise … Pray for the N.I.H. and the C.D.C. Pray for the W.H.O.’ Now the public is waking up to the fact that, prayers notwithstanding, those institutions largely failed us.
The WHO kowtowed to China’s deceptions. Anthony Fauci trimmed his public statements to fit the prevailing political winds. Some of the nation’s top virologists didn’t just dismiss the lab-leak possibility, they appeared to be covering up their own involvement with Wuhan gain-of-function research.
Journalists and social-media companies conspired to suppress legitimate questions about a disease that was killing thousands of Americans each day.”
Establishment Needs a Deep Clean
While we certainly need expertise, as Meigs points out, we must also be able to trust our experts, and the only way for trust to rebuild, experts must act from a strong ethical foundation, and be held responsible for dangerous failures.
“If the public concludes that COVID-19 was, in effect, an inside job, the political fallout could last a generation,” Meigs writes.15 “I don’t mean people will believe the virus was deliberately released … but that they will see the disease as a product of an elite power structure that behaves recklessly and evades responsibility.”
What makes the situation so problematic is that it’s not just one type of institution that is behaving recklessly and shirking responsibility. It’s not just the legacy media, or academia, or government, or public health, the intelligence apparatus, Big Tech, Big Pharma or the medical journal system. It’s all of them.
The Medical Journal System Has Failed Us Too
Continuing along that same line of reasoning, a July 27, 2021, Spectator article16 by Stuart Ritchie reviews the unhealthy relationship between The Lancet and China, and its role in thwarting scientific investigation into the origins of SARS-CoV-2. Ritchie points out how The Lancet’s editor-in-chief, Richard Horton, has routinely defended China’s actions:
“It’s not just the scientists and health workers of China that the Lancet has praised. In May last year, Horton appeared on the state-owned broadcaster China Central Television to praise how ‘tremendously decisively’ the Chinese Communist party had handled the pandemic. He also penned multiple editorials about China, including one entitled ‘Covid-19 and the Dangers of Sinophobia.’”
Ritchie also stresses that “some of the most famous stories of scientific fraud have originated at The Lancet during Horton’s tenure as editor,” including, most recently, fraudulent papers proclaiming to show that hydroxychloroquine is dangerous when used in COVID-19 patients, and Daszak’s “scientific statement” condemning the lab leak theory as wild conspiracy theory.
“The purpose of the Lancet, back in 1823, was to slice away the immorality and complacency of the medical establishment … [Lancet founder Thomas] Wakley would have been stunned to see that his journal now exemplifies that establishment,” Ritchie writes.17 “It embodies an unaccountable or only partially accountable elite that does often make progress, but fails abjectly to face up to its many faults.
In 2021, we might find that the best rejoinder to our establishment isn’t a new Wakley-style journal, but an entirely new way to think about science and how it’s published: a way that doesn’t hand over all our trust to editors and reviewers, but that emphasizes openness and transparency right from the start.
There are several proposals for how it could happen. The next rotten thing that needs to be cut away could be the journal system — and the Lancet itself.”
The censorship rolled out during the COVID pandemic has revealed a disconcerting truth, namely that corruption and collusion are rampant everywhere. By the looks of it, we need to do a clean sweep across the board, and that will require time, effort, and most of all, open public discussion.
Laws Have Been Broken. Who Will Hold Them Accountable?
In closing, I strongly recommend listening to Dr. David Martin’s explanation of antitrust law in the video below, and how, in the case of a criminal conspiracy, liability shielding evaporates.
In his view, having reviewed the evidence, there’s no doubt that the NIH/NIAID, the U.S. Health and Human Services Department, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, ATI, Moderna and Pfizer are guilty of criminal conspiracy (the legal definition thereof) and premeditative antitrust violations.
Without that criminal conspiracy and their premeditative acts, we would not be in the situation we’re in now, where censorship and pandemic measures and rules are putting the public health, well-being and sanity at risk. Unfortunately, while there is, theoretically, a legal way out of this pandemic, deep cracks in our justice system has also been exposed over the past year and a half.
Martin is currently struggling to find a state attorney general willing to pursue these violations so that we can bring this faux pandemic to a close. Hopefully, once enough people understand the illegality of the situation, someone will have the courage to step up to the plate.

A bold new era for the Marvel Cinematic Universe began in 2021 on Disney+ with the wildly successful WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki, but Marvel Studios certainly hasn’t been resting on its laurels in terms of upcoming cinematic blockbusters – Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals, Thor: Love and Thunder, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania are all in various stages of production.
There are even more Marvel movies that are just starting to gear up, including Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, The Marvels, Fantastic Four, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and Blade. And that’s without mentioning all the TV series heading our way like Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight and She-Hulk. Phew!
If you’ve been a little confused by Marvel’s shifting dates and streaming priorities, never fear! We’ve got a comprehensive release calendar for you here detailing all the forthcoming MCU projects, so you’ll always be able to find the latest updates when you need them.
Let’s take a look at everything Marvel has in store over the next few years…
What If…?
Release Date: August 11
The beloved comic book series that tells tales of how things might have turned out differently in the Marvel Universe becomes an animated series on Disney+, and thanks to the events of Loki we may well be able to view all these new What If…? installments as canon!
Here’s the official synopsis for the show:
“What If…? flips the script on the MCU, reimagining famous events from the films in unexpected ways…Marvel Studios’ first animated series focuses on different heroes from the MCU, featuring a voice cast that includes a host of stars who reprise their roles.”
At least a couple of these roles include Chadwick Boseman’s final performance as T’Challa as well as the return of Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter!
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
Release Date: September 3, 2021
Simu Liu is the titular Shang-Chi and Tony Leung as The Mandarin (hey, that name sounds familiar! But this time, we’re getting the real Mandarin on screen). Destin Daniel Cretton directed this Marvel outing from a script by Dave Callaham. Given its “Ten Rings” title, Shang-Chi should be steeped in Marvel lore, going all the way back to the first Iron Man film!
Hopefully this will be Marvel’s most action-packed movie yet.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage
Release Date: September 17, 2021
Andy Serkis (Mowgli) steps behind the camera for Venom 2, which now boasts the catchy title of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The first film, buoyed by a terrific showing at the Chinese box office, made an absolute ton of money, despite being released to mostly scathing reviews.
Venom: Let There be Carnage will follow up Sony’s 2018 Spider-Man-less spinoff film, but will likely be more connected to the MCU this time around, thanks to a renewed deal between the company and its Marvel Studios partners. Tom Hardy will return as Eddie Brock, of course, and as you can probably guess from that title, he’ll be facing off against Woody Harrelson’s villain, Cletus Kasady aka Carnage!
We wrote about all the cool Marvel stuff happening in the above trailer right here.
The Eternals
Release Date: Nov. 5, 2021
Acclaimed Nomadland helmer (and Oscar winner!) Chloe Zhao is directing Marvel’s Eternals from a script by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. Marvel described the film as an “epic story, spanning thousands of years” that features “a group of immortal heroes forced out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s oldest enemy, The Deviants.”
The cast features Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Angelina Jolie as Thena, Gemma Chan as Sersi, and Kit Harrington as Dane Whitman, the Black Knight. We meet all these characters in the trailer, which we wrote more about here.
This one was another victim of the release date shuffle, but we’ll finally get to see Jack Kirby‘s wildest creations soon enough!
Spider-Man: No Way Home
Release Date: Dec. 17, 2021
The next Spider-Man movie looks like a big one! Spider-Man: No Way Home will once again take place in the MCU since Marvel and Sony solved their differences. Good sense prevailed, and Tom Holland’s Peter Parker will remain a vital part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This one, well…this might be a live action Spider-Verse movie from the sound of it. Jamie Foxx will reprise his role as Electro from the maligned Amazing Spider-Man films and Alfred Molina will return from the Raimi era as Doctor Octopus.
Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange will also star in the film by taking over MCU father figure duties from Tony Stark, and it’s starting to become clear that this will be the first big screen multiverse movie following the huge events of Loki. Rumors have been flying left and right for a while now, with fans hearing that everyone from Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man to Charlie Cox’s Daredevil might have roles to play in No Way Home.
Hawkeye
Release Date: Autumn 2021
Jeremy Renner returns as Clint Barton to train his replacement as Hawkeye, Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop! Apparently based on the brilliant run of comics by Matt Fraction and David Aja, Hawkeye will also prominently feature Lucky the Pizza Dog, one of the great canines in Marvel Comics history.
The cast also includes Vera Farmiga as Eleanor Bishop, Fra Fee as Kazimerz Kazimierczak, Tony Dalton as Jack “Swordsman” Duquesne, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Alaqua Cox as Maya “Echo” Lopez, and Zahn McClarnon as Willie Lincoln. We wrote more about all these new characters here.
Ms. Marvel
Release Date: Winter 2021
Ms. Marvel is finally coming to live action! Here’s the official synopsis for the series…
“Ms. Marvel introduces Kamala Khan—a 16-year-old Pakistani-American growing up in Jersey City. “A great student, an avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, she has a special affinity for superheroes, particularly Captain Marvel. But Kamala struggles to fit in at home and at school—that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life is easier with super powers, right?”
The cast includes Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Naki, Azher Usman, Travina Springer, and Nimra Bucha. Episodes are directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
This is going to be a big one, folks, because Kamala is going to be a significant player in Captain Marvel 2. How significant? The title of the movie is now The Marvels!
Morbius
Release Date: January 21, 2022
Spider-Man spinoff Morbius is Sony’s next big Marvel wild card, and it’ll officially be the first spinoff to properly connect to the MCU (even if Marvel Studios still isn’t officially acknowledging it in their own promotional materials the way they are with Spider-Man: No Way Home). Here’s the official synopsis for the film…
“Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed and transforms this healer into a hunter.”
Safe House‘s Daniel Espinosa directs from a script by Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway. Jared Leto stars as the vampiric title character, and the cast also includes Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson.
Read more about the character of Michael Morbius here.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Release Date: March 25, 2022
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness looks like it will open up the storytelling possibilities in the MCU like never before. And that’s just based on the name alone. Scott Derrickson was scheduled to direct, but bowed out because of “creative differences” with Marvel. But the good news is that Marvel found a suitable replacement in none other than Sam Raimi, who of course has plenty of superhero experience thanks to his Spider-Man trilogy in the early 2000s!
This movie has loads of connections to the wider MCU. Elizabeth Olsen will be there as Wanda Maximoff post-WandaVision, and the film will also connect to Loki and Spider-Man: No Way Home with its multiversal ambitions. There are also a few rumors doing the rounds that Jericho Drumm aka Brother Voodoo could be introduced in this sequel. We’ll keep an eye on that and update this if there’s any substance to them.
Thor: Love and Thunder
Release Date: May 6, 2022
Taika Waititi, who gave us the delightful Thor: Ragnarok, returns to write and direct this fourquel. Chris Hemsworth is back, Natalie Portman is your new Thor (yes, you read that right, Jane Foster will wield the hammer…just as she did in the comics!) and Christian Bale stars as the terrifying Gorr the God Butcher. Not only that, this movie will finally put Olympians in the MCU with Russell Crowe as Zeus. Can Hercules be far behind?
Oh, and did we mention that the Guardians of the Galaxy will be along for the ride, too?
Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever
Release Date: July 8, 2022
Black Panther 2 is now called Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Marvel has made it official that after the tragic, untimely death of Chadwick Boseman they have no intention of recasting the role of T’Challa, which is absolutely the right move.
Ryan Coogler will return as director, but there are no other details currently available. Interestingly, Coogler is also bringing a Wakanda TV series to Disney+ at some point in the future, too, and something tells us this Wakanda-centric title for the sequel is a sign of things to come.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Sequel
Release Date: October 7, 2022
Is it technically an MCU movie? Nope. But with all the legal weirdness going on between Marvel and Sony, and this franchise’s very multiversal concept, who’s really to say that it ISN’T an MCU movie either, right? In any case, the sequel to the best Spider-Man movie of all time is coming in 2022 with Avatar: The Last Airbender mastermind Joaquim Dos Santos directing and David Callaham writing.
Captain Marvel 2: The Marvels
Release Date: November 11, 2022
WandaVision writer Megan McDonnell has been tapped to write the screenplay for Captain Marvel 2, which now boasts the title of The Marvels. You know what else is really cool? Candyman‘s Nia DaCosta will direct!
We have no idea where we’ll find Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) in the sequel to her hugely successful first standalone MCU entry. Will she be fighting to loosen her former Kree pals’ iron grip on a pre-Avengers galaxy? Or will the follow up film see her fighting for justice in the present?
In any case, we know that she’ll be facing off with Zawe Ashton as a currently-unnamed antagonist, and WandaVision‘s Monica Lambeau (Teyonah Parris) will also return in her superpowered state after the events of that game-changing show. Considering that Monica was once known as “Captain Marvel” in the comics, that title of The Marvels becomes more appropriate. And even MORE appropriate when you realize that Kamala Khan, Ms. Marvel, will also be making her big screen debut.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special
Release Date: December, 2022
James Gunn will write and direct a new seasonal TV special featuring the Guardians of the Galaxy, with the main cast returning to star in it. It will be filmed alongside Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and stream on Disney+ in December 2022. Just so ya know, it’s set between the events of Thor: Love and Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Release date: Feb. 17, 2023
Peyton Reed will return to direct the third installment of the Ant-Man saga, making him the first director in MCU history to complete a trilogy…perhaps the most unlikely trilogy in Marvel’s entire arsenal. Paul Rudd will return as Scott Lang, and you can certainly expect Evangeline Lilly to return as The Wasp and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
The villain of the film? That will be Kang the Conqueror, who will be played by Lovecraft Country‘s Jonathan Majors. The inclusion of Kang in the Ant-Man threequel makes a lot more sense if you’ve already watched Loki, as in that series we got to meet one of his Variants, “He Who Remains”. During the season finale, Majors was on hand as He Who Remains to explain that in opening up the multiverse, the MCU was exposing itself to his other Variants like Kang the Conqueror – who will definitely be much less amiable in Ant-Man 3 than He Who Remains.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Release date: May 5, 2023
After a tumultuous period which saw James Gunn fired and then rehired as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director, he will finally return to complete his spacefaring trilogy for the studio. However, Gunn can’t even begin filming Guardians 3 until he finishes some work on his HBO Max Peacemaker prequel.
Avengers: Endgame left the team in an interesting place, which will be further explored in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder. We broke down some of the story possibilities right here.
And then there are still some dates that Marvel has announced that they have yet to match projects to. Those dates are July 28, 2023, October 7, 2023 and November 10, 2023.
Some of those dates could very well be good fits for the following films…
Fantastic Four
The MCU Fantastic Four movie is finally happening! Marvel seems to be hinting that Fantastic Four will be their next priority after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. So is it possible that we’ll see it on July 28, 2023? That sure would be a great piece of summer blockbuster real estate to launch what might be the most important piece of the MCU going forward!
Marvel’s first family will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a film directed by Jon Watts, who did such a wonderful job with the first two MCU Spider-Man movies. That’s all the information that’s out there at the moment, but as soon as we have more, we’ll update this. We have our own theories on why Marvel went with the Fantastic Four before the X-Men, but that’s another story.
Blade
In 2019, Marvel announced that they would be rebooting the Blade franchise with Mahershala Ali playing the titular daywalker. Ali’s True Detective co-star – and former Blade villain – Stephen Dorff is excited to see what he can do with the character, and so are we. A director is currently being finalized, but it looks like the job will go to Mogul Mowgli helmer Bassam Tariq.
Could Marvel decide to drop this in that Oct. 7, 2023 release date? Considering that’s the Halloween season and Blade is, y’know, a vampire hunter, they’d have to be foolish not to, right?
Captain America 4
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier showrunner Malcolm Spellman is co-writing a currently-untitled Captain America 4 with another FWS alum, Dalan Musson. Those are pretty much all the details that are currently available on this one at this time, but at least we know that Anthony Mackie will return as Sam Wilson in that incredibly badass Captain America costume they gave him for that show. We wrote some more about the potential story possibilities for this one right here.
There’s no date or director for this one yet, so even 2023 seems like it might be a longshot.
Deadpool 3
Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin will be the writing team tasked with bringing the Merc with a Mouth to the MCU. What a Deadpool 3 could look like in the interconnected Marvel Cinematic Universe is, of course, anybody’s guess, but if anyone can crack wise about the follies of this kind of corporate synergy, it’s Ryan Reynolds.
And then there’s the lingering TV stuff, at least two of which will arrive in 2022, with the balance likely to arrive in 2023…
She-Hulk
Tatiana Maslany will play Jennifer Walters, a lawyer who ends up with her cousin Bruce’s gamma-irradiated blood. Hilarity certainly ensues. Kevin Feige has promised that since this will be a courtroom show, you never know who else from the MCU could show up.
It’s possible we’ll get She-Hulk on Disney+ in 2022, but nothing is confirmed at this stage.
Moon Knight
Oscar Isaac will play Marc Spector, a disturbed fortune hunter who also happens to be the avenging avatar of an Egyptian moon god. Oscar Isaac is already training hard for the role, and the series is now officially in production, so we wouldn’t be surprised if we see this one on Disney+ in 2022. Ethan Hawke stars alongside Isaac, and the series is being directed by Mohamed Diab and The Endless duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead!
Loki Season 2
As revealed at the end of Marvel’s multiverse-bombing Loki, the God of Mischief will be back for a second season on Disney+ after he and Sylvie changed the MCU forever in the season one finale. Details of what might be in store are currently thin on the ground, but we do know that director Kate Herron will not return to helm the second season. Tom Hiddleston will of course be back as the titular character, but everything else is up in the air right now, including confirmation on any of his co-stars. It would be great to see Owen Wilson reprise the role of Mobius, and catch up with Sylvie again after her encounter with He Who Remains.
Ironheart
The first of two series that will explore the legacy of Iron Man and Tony Stark in the MCU, Ironheart stars Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, a teenager at M.I.T. who creates her own suit of armor to right the wrongs of the world.
Armor Wars
Don Cheadle will reprise his role as Rhodey and will have the solo spotlight in the War Machine armor in a series that deals with a nightmare scenario for the MCU: what if Tony Stark’s Iron Man technology fell into the wrong hands and was getting duplicated by villains? Based on a classic comics run, Armor Wars promises big action and lots of obscure bad guys. We can’t wait.
Secret Invasion
Samuel L. Jackson will return as Nick Fury alongside Ben Mendelsohn as Talos for a series about the shape-shifting Skrull infiltration of Earth. Kingsley Ben-Adir is apparently playing the villain of the series. Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, and Killian Scott also star.
On directing duties are Thomas Bezucha (Let Him Go) and Ali Selim (The Looming Tower) while Mr. Robot vet Kyle Bradstreet is the head writer.
Secret Invasion could be the biggest thing to happen to the MCU since Endgame.
Wakanda
Very few details are available on this one at the moment, but Ryan Coogler will develop at least one Wakanda-set TV series for Disney+. Could this have anything to do with that Wakanda Forever title for Black Panther 2? We wrote more about some of the implications of this here.
We’ll keep updating this with new information as it becomes available!

Gap year student secures last open seat for Blue Origin’s first human spaceflight – TechCrunch
To get a roundup of TechCrunch’s greatest and most important stories delivered to your inbox every day at 3:00 p.m. PDT, subscribe here.
Hello and welcome to Daily Crunch for July 15, 2021. Good news from the TechCrunch front: The agenda for our big disrupt conference in September is set. It’s going to be incredible, frankly, so take a look. In addition, the latest EC-1 has just fallen. So if you want to get a glimpse of CockroachDB, we have just the compendium for you. – Alex
The TechCrunch top 3
Revolut is now worth $ 33 billion: British neobank Revolut has put together an $ 800 million round that values the company at $ 33 billion. The company’s new valuation is a multiple of what it was worth in early 2020. Why is it worth so much today? TechCrunch has done a little research on the subject.
Valve makes gaming hardware: Yes, the folks behind the Steam gaming store are getting into the handheld gaming market. Their device, the Steam Deck, costs 399 US dollars and contains “a quad-core Zen 2 CPU coupled with AMD RDNA 2 graphics and 16 GB of RAM,” according to our own Brian Heater. If you need more storage, you can spend up to $ 649 on the handheld computer.
Autonomous vehicle unicorn Aurora goes public: As TechCrunch has already announced, the autonomous vehicle unicorn Aurora is going public via a SPAC. The company expects to be valued at $ 13 billion when it begins trading. Keep in mind that Aurora previously acquired Uber’s autonomous vehicle unit, valued at around $ 10 billion.
Startups / VC
The venture capital market has been on fire lately, resulting in quick deals and more rounds than journalists can dream of. However, if you’re still in the marketplace raising capital, check out Norwest’s Lisa Wu for a few tips that might come in handy. Boss among them? Think like a VC when you are on your way to raise.
AmEx immerses itself in financial planning: It was announced today that credit giant American Express invested in BodesWell through its venture arm last year. Now the credit card company, in cooperation with the startup, has “started a pilot project for its first digital self-service financial planning tool”. Discuss an early customer for BodesWell.
Prefab tries again: That is the word from a new $ 20 million round for Abodu – what we suspect is a suitcase made up of “place of residence” and “you”. Sure, the prefabricated unicorn Katerra is broken, but Abodu takes the model with the consumer in mind. Norwest led the way, with the participation of Initialized Capital.
Lightyear Raises $ 13.1 Million for Online Network Procurement: On the geekier side of tech, we got news today from Lightyear, a startup that its CEO says is “the first tool to buy your telecommunications infrastructure on the Internet”. Ron Miller notes that everything goes online, so why not network buying?
$ 20 million for financial data extraction: Daloopa has completed an eight-digit Series A conducted by NEXT Investors of Credit Suisse Asset Management to help finance types “avoid repetitive data extraction to gather insights for analysis and forecasting,” reports TechCrunch. The deal stood out for us because of its obvious corporate venture capital (CVC) approach; CVCs have been more active than ever in recent quarters.
The Cockroach DB EC-1
Ants and camels are known to be resilient animals, but when it was time to choose a name for a startup that offered an open source cloud-based distributed database architecture, you can imagine why “Cockroach Labs” was the last candidate .
Database technology is a fundamental infrastructure, which partly explains why it is so innovation-resistant: Oracle Database was released in 1979, and MySQL didn’t hit the market until 1995.
Since its inception, CockroachDB has become a “next-generation database competitor valued at $ 2 billion,” writes corporate reporter Bob Reselman, who interviewed the company’s founders to write a four-part series:
Part 1: Origin story: From developing the popular open source image editor GIMP to some of Google’s best known infrastructure products.
Part 2: Technical design: Analyzes the key differences that CockroachDB offers, specifically its focus on geography and data storage.
Part 3: Developer Relations and Business: How CockroachDB works with developers as it moves to the cloud at a major tipping point.
Part 4: Competitive Landscape and Future: A look at the tough competition and what possible exit routes could look like.
(Extra Crunch is our membership program that helps founders and startup teams move forward. You can sign up here.)
Big Tech Inc.
Apple hearts Fintech: News this week that Apple is considering entering the “buy now, pay later” sector rocked Affirm and Afterpay shares. But what about startups in space? TechCrunch has reconsidered the question a little.
Xiaomi grabs Apple’s number 2 mobile phone brand: Apple’s cell phone shipments rose in the second quarter, but a huge 83% increase in Xiaomi brought the Chinese hardware company to Cupertino and its iPhone line, according to Canalys data. Samsung remains the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer in terms of number of units.
Be jealous of this 18 year old: After the successful space flight bidder on Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin was sold for $ 28 million to someone who couldn’t bother to take the first flight, an 18-year-old “high school graduate” becomes a college graduate Utrecht ”go instead. Oliver Daemen, enjoy the trip, we are jealous. (Yes, Daemen’s parents are rich.)

2021 lunar new year feng shui tips and important dates
2021 lunar new year feng shui tips and important dates
How do we prepare the lunar new year to bring in good luck in 2021? What are the important dates, traditions, and Feng Shui tips we can apply during this time?
We are going to show you ideas you can prepare for your home, office, or store to benefit the positive energy.
Chinese people have been following the tradition for thousands of years. Around the lunar new year time, plenty of food is prepared, house cleaned, and mind focused to prepare for the best year ahead.
The lunar new year for the Year of the Ox 2021
The lunar New Year’s Day is February 12, 2021. The New Year’s Eve is February 11, and the Lantern Festival is February 26, 2021.
The preparation actually starts long before the lunar New Year’s Day. Most families started in the lunar December. It is a good time to clean the space, declutter, organize, and decorate. You might want to remove old feng shui cures during this month.
Food preparation is also an important part of this time. Some traditional food takes a long time to prepare, so we start early and make sure we have more than enough for the new year. Food is a symbol of abundance and wealth. We want to have enough food to share with friends and families.
The end of the year is the best time to clean out the old, outdated or broken items. Do a thorough cleaning of the house. Change around furniture and decor to refresh the space.
The Best days to remove and install feng shui cures, enhancers, or Tai Sui plaque/plate
You can install or replace feng shui cures, enhancers, or Tai Sui statue by following a feng shui lunar calendar. The traditional lunar calendar shows the auspicious activities, lucky directions, and conflicting animal sign of the day. Under the auspicious activities, it tells you the best day to install or remove a feng shui cure/enhancer. And try to avoid the day that is conflicting with your animal sign.
Besides following a feng shui calendar, there are 2 special days around the lunar new year for removing and installing feng shui cures/enhancers or Tai Sui plaque/plate.
The first one is on lunar December 24. It is the day of forgiveness. You can move Tai Sui, feng shui items, or other religious objects without worrying about offending any spirit or making mistakes. In 2021, this day is on February 05.
The second date is the Jade Emperor’s birthday, lunar January 09. Since it is a very auspicious day, it is powerful to perform any ritual, setting up cures, enhancers, or a Tai Sui altar. It is on February 20, 2021.
The Jade Emperor’s birthday, Lunar January 9th
There is always a big ceremony and feast for a deity’s birthday. On January 9th, there will be a big celebration in many temples. People offer a variety of food, flower, candle, and pray for a prosperous year.
This is also a good day to do a fasting or avoid eating meat, and take a bath to cleanse body and mind.
The Lunar New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day
The lunar New Year’s Eve is a time for a family gathering, food sharing, and partying. Kids receive red envelopes with money inside. This is also a good day to sweep the floor. It symbolizes sweeping out old energy and ready for the new year.
The first day of the year should be positive. So wear a bright color, visiting friends and relatives, visiting the temple to pray and make wishes. This is a day to avoid sweeping floors so good luck will stay in the house. Avoid fighting, yelling, or breaking any object during the first day of the year.
Lucky directions to travel for the lunar New Year’s Day
The first travel direction of the year is important. Travel to the auspicious directions of New Year’s Day can bring good luck of the year.
For February 12, 2021 (New Year’s Day), the lucky directions include the Southwest and the East. And the lucky time of the day includes 3 to 5 am and 11 am to 5 pm. It is best to walk out of the house during these hours and travel to either East or Southwest direction for good luck.
If you have to go somewhere other than East or Southwest, you can still walk to the East or Southwest first for a short distance, and then change the direction later.
There are lucky directions every day based on a Feng Shui lunar calendar. Check out our book, 2021 Feng Shui Planner and Calendar, if you are interested.
The Lantern Festival (lunar January 15)
The lantern festival marks the last day of the lunar new year celebration. There is also a full moon that night. Traditionally, people eat Yuan Xiao (the rice ball), play riddle games, and light up lanterns with their wishes/prayers written inside.
To light up a lantern is similar to making a new year resolution. You set your intention on what you like to achieve this year. With a clear mind, a clean house, and positive energy, we are ready to start the new year.

Surprising Nuggets From The WHO Report: Our Science Correspondent Digs In
This week, the World Health Organization finally released its long-awaited report about its investigation into how and where the COVID-19 pandemic began. หวย บอล เกมส์ สล๊อต คาสิโนออนไลน์
Although the main conclusions were roughly what the agency had already reported to the media, deep inside the 300-page paper there are tantalizing nuggets of information about the early days of the pandemic. And these points haven't yet been widely reported.
In particular, there's some juicy new evidence about where the virus came from — and how COVID was circulating widely through Wuhan before December 2019.
Let's start with the former.
An "explosive outbreak began in Wuhan in early December 2019"
Buried deep in the WHO report, you can find a particularly illuminating interview. It's on page 118 and has the unremarkable title of "Interview with patient recovered from COVID-19."
But this patient isn't just any patient. It's the "patient in the COVID-19 reporting system with the earliest date of onset date." The patient became sick on December 8, 2019 — several days before the first case linked to the Huanan market appeared.
Scientists have no clue where this early case got infected. The individual is identified as an accountant who works for the family business, with no clear connection to anything that might pass on the infection. "The person mentioned one relative working in a healthcare setting, and one relative visiting a local market but there were no illness reports related to these locations at that time," the report states. "The person commuted to work by public transport, and had not travelled outside Wuhan."
Article continues after sponsor message
When COVID-19 first broke out in Wuhan, scientists tracked a large number of the cases to the Huanan Seafood Market, which sold frozen and live seafood and animals. Specifically, in December 2019, doctors detected 174 cases of COVID-19 in Wuhan and traced 51 cases to the market. And so initially, many researchers thought the pandemic began there.
But by the time the virus reached the market in mid-December, sporadic cases — with unknown origin — had already cropped up in a large portion of the city, according to maps in the report.
In fact, most of the earliest cases in December 2019 had no link to the market. "The onset date of those with no exposure history to [the] Huanan market is earlier than those [who] had exposure history to the market," the WHO report says.
Interestingly, about a quarter of the cases in December 2019 had visited one of 27 other markets in Wuhan besides Huanan, the investigation found. Two of 174 cases in December 2019 were healthcare workers.
And thus, the WHO report concludes: "An explosive outbreak began in Wuhan in early December 2019."
"Massive transmission" at Huanan Seafood Market
Although the COVID-19 pandemic didn't begin at the Huanan market, it did get a big boost there. A significantly big boost.
Last month, virologist Linfa Wang said "there was massive transmission going on at that market, for sure." The WHO report paints a clear picture for why Wang, a member of the WHO investigation team, believes such a big outbreak occurred.
For starters the market is huge at 50,000 square feet. From WHO's description, it seems to be a place where COVID could spread easily. "The alleys of the market are very narrow, dark and poorly ventilated," the report says. And an open "sewage" drain "in poor condition" ran through the entire market.
On January 31, 2021, WHO's investigation team toured the west side of the Huanan Seafood Market, where most of the cases occurred in the outbreak. Although officials had shut the market a year earlier — and disinfected the stalls — the air still stunk.
"There was a mixed smell of animals and disinfection in some areas of the market," the WHO report states. "It was later clarified by the manager in a subsequent meeting that those were the smell of rotten meat since all stalls were closed suddenly without removal of their products."
The market sold a vast array of seafood and meat — frozen, fresh and alive.
Some stalls sold live fish and amphibians. Ten shops sold farmed wildlife, including crocodiles, badgers, sika deer, rabbits, giant salamanders, bamboo rats, snakes and turtledoves.

Each day about 10,000 people packed into the narrow aisles of the market as butchers chopped up meat and slaughtered fish and mammals, the WHO report explains.
In December 2019, there were at least 51 cases linked to the market. Most of the people infected were workers.
All 51 cases were sick enough to seek medical help. Given that most people sick with COVID-19 show no or mild symptoms, the number of people infected at the market was likely much greater than 51.
The WHO report provides a diagram showing where the known COVID-19 cases occur as well as where scientists found signs of the coronavirus in the environment — "on the floor, walls, chopping boards, and cleaning tools," the report writes. The contamination was especially heavy in the live animal section of the market.
Together, the data suggest the virus spread across a large section of the West area of the market in December 2019, infecting both workers and shoppers. In other words, the outbreak at Wuhan was a massive superspreading event that sent an already circulating virus into overdrive across Wuhan.
The data from the market also point to another key conclusion from the report: An animal likely amplified the spread of the virus. According to the report, the stalls that sold live animals had the heaviest contamination with SARS-CoV-2.
A menagerie of farmed wildlife, across China
On p. 99 of the Appendix, there's a telling graphic. It shows a map of China with all the provinces outlined. Around the map, there are boxes listing off all the wild animals bred in captivity in each province. The list is long and diverse.
Across the country, farms are breeding everything from African lions, Siberian tigers, giraffes and hippos to meerkats, porcupines, lemurs and macaques. In total, more than three dozen wild animals appear on the map.
Shortly after the pandemic began in Wuhan, Chinese officials abruptly shut down farms that breed wildlife for food; that decision came after promoting these farms for more than a decade. The government allowed farms that breed wild animals for fur and medicine to remain open.
Wild animals are a major source of new human diseases. Several investigators with WHO believe these farms may be the source or amplifier of SARS-Cov2. Looking at this map makes you wonder: Is China setting themselves for future outbreaks?
