Comprehensively relax and optimize the transit visa exemption policy from now on

On December 17, according to the National Immigration Administration, the transit visa exemption policy will be fully relaxed and optimized from now on, and the stay time of foreigners with transit visa exemption will be extended from the original 72 hours and 144 hours to 240 hours (10 days). At the same time, 21 new ports will be added as entry and exit ports for transit visa exemption personnel, and the stay and activity areas will be further expanded. According to reports, eligible people from 54 countries including Russia, Brazil, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada can enter China without a visa from any of the 60 open ports in 24 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities) when transiting through China to a third country (region), and stay in the specified area for no more than 240 hours. Compared with the 72/144-hour transit visa exemption policy, the biggest feature of this policy adjustment is that it allows cross-regional travel, that is, foreigners with transit visa exemption can travel across provinces within the permitted stay and activity areas of 24 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities). According to the latest statistics from the National Immigration Administration, from January to November 2024, 29.218 million foreigners entered the country through ports across the country, an increase of 86.2% year-on-year; among them, 17.446 million entered the country through visa-free entry, an increase of 123.3% year-on-year.
