Should You Choose a Manual or Electric Toothbrush?
At Calm Dentistry, we have tricks to help you use manual toothbrushes, to prevent more harm when you have sensitive teeth. Electric toothbrushes have customizable features where you can set how hard or gentle you want to brush. This prevents you from hurting yourself if you have sensitive teeth. Besides, electric toothbrushes are built with brushing patterns and timers so you brush following the appropriate timing and avoid eroding your enamel. However, every good thing comes with its cost. Electric toothbrushes are more expensive than manual ones.
We are much concerned about building a healthy community and that`s why we give affordable dental care.
Your health is our pride. Schedule your appointment and we`ll be glad to serve you.

"As Good as Dental Sealants – Scientists Discover Inexpensive Liquid That Prevents Tooth Decay"
Article Date: March 6, 2024.
Highlights:
SDF has emerged as another promising treatment for fighting cavities. Originally approved by the FDA for treating tooth sensitivity, the solution is brushed onto the surface of teeth, killing decay-causing bacteria and remineralizing teeth to prevent further decay.
"A growing body of research shows that SDF—which is quicker to apply and less expensive than sealants—can prevent and arrest cavities, reducing the need for drilling and filling,” said Richard Niederman, DMD, professor of epidemiology & health promotion at NYU College of Dentistry and the study’s senior author.
[...] The study included approximately 4,100 children in New York City elementary schools; more than a quarter of kids had untreated cavities at the start of the study.
[...]
The researchers reported last year in the journal JAMA Network Open that a single treatment of either SDF or sealants prevented 80% of cavities and kept 50% of existing cavities from worsening two years later. The team continued their study for another two years, and in their study published in JAMA Pediatrics, found that SDF and sealants prevented roughly the same number of cavities after children were followed for a total of four years. Moreover, both sealants and SDF reduced the risk of decay at each follow-up visit.
[...]
Embracing SDF for cavity prevention and treatment in schools could keep kids from needing fillings, saving families and the healthcare system money. Yet these programs can only succeed if there are enough health professionals to provide care.

German Study: Vast Majority of People Will Grow Out of Transgenderism Within 5 Years
The current U.S. affirmation model holds that health care professionals should affirm anyone who presents as transgender and start that adult, or child, down a pathway of “gender-affirming care” that may include potentially sterilizing puberty blockers, cross-sex hormone injections, and transgender surgeries to remove healthy breasts and reproductive organs.
But the groundbreaking Cass Review in the U.K. found “remarkably weak evidence” undergirds these criteria. Leaked files from the primary medical group driving gender dysphoria diagnoses, the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, similarly undermined the affirmation model. Bucking the trend among their colleagues, and standing up to professional ostracization, a growing number of medical experts have spoken out against the present consensus. “Transition affirmation is not proven to be safe or effective long term,” said Dr. Andre Van Mol, representing the American College of Pediatricians, the Christian Medical and Dental Associations, and the American Academy of Medical Ethics earlier this week. “It does not reduce suicides. It does not repair mental health issues or trauma. Minors cannot give truly informed consent. Children have developing and immature brains. Their minds change often. They are prone to risk taking, they are vulnerable to peer pressure, and they don’t grasp long term consequences.” And as such, he contended, “Refusing to provide gender transition procedures or so-called gender affirming health care is non-discriminatory and is appropriate both professionally and scientifically.”
File this under: Things the rest of us already knew.

Jessica Glenza at The Guardian:
A bill introduced by the US senator Bernie Sanders would dramatically expand access to oral healthcare by adding dental benefits to Medicare and enhance them in Medicaid, public health insurance programs that together cover 115 million older and lower-income Americans.
Despite Americans’ reputation for the flashy “Hollywood smile”, millions struggle to access basic dental care. One in five US seniors have lost all their natural teeth, almost half of adults have some kind of gum disease and painful cavities are one of the most common reasons children miss school. “Any objective look at the reality facing the American people recognizes there is a crisis in dental care in America,” Sanders told the Guardian in an exclusive interview. “Imagine that in the richest country in the world.” Nearly 69 million adults and almost 7 million children lack dental insurance. For those who have insurance, costs are often opaque and high. Multi-thousand-dollar bills are so common that the nation’s largest professional organization for dentists, the American Dental Association (ADA), signed an exclusive partnership with a medical credit card company. In 2019, more than 2 million Americans went to the emergency room for tooth pain, a 62% increase since 2014, and a crisis of affordability pushed an estimated 490,000 Americans to travel to other countries such as Mexico for lower-cost dental care.
“The issue of dental care is something we have been working on for years,” said Sanders. “It is an issue I think tens of millions of Americans are deeply concerned about, but it really hasn’t quite gotten the media attention it deserves.” Sanders said he had seen how poor dental health can affect every aspect of a person’s life – he described constituents who cover their mouths when they laugh or have been turned down for jobs because of missing teeth. Sanders said he recognized the importance of the issue by attending town halls in his home state of Vermont, “and learning how hard it is to get dental care, how expensive it is and [how] dental insurance [is] totally inadequate”. “Having bad teeth or poor teeth is a badge of poverty,” said Sanders. “It becomes a personal issue, a psychological issue, an economic issue as well.”
Sanders’ bill expands dental coverage by adding comprehensive benefits to Medicare; incentivizing states to improve dental benefits through Medicaid; and providing dental benefits to veterans through the Veterans Administration. Additionally, the bill would attempt to tackle some states’ dentist shortage by creating student loan forgiveness programs for dentists who practice in underserved areas, and increasing funding to non-traditional places to see dentists, including at community health centers and schools. Expanding dental coverage is exceedingly popular – recent polls show 92% of voters support the proposal, including an overwhelming majority of Republicans. Sanders said his proposal was good policy and “very good politics”.
Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) has proposed a bill called the Comprehensive Dental Reform Act that would dramatically increase coverage for dental care for Medicaid and Medicare patients.

Sorry if this is emotional but I'm a querying author and I just lost my (dream?) job. It's really hard for all the reasons but one thing that's especially painful is my querying bio. I have two main anxieties: [1] I don't know what I can say in my query bios anymore and [2] I'm scared an agent won't offer if I reveal I'm financially/professionally struggling in a call because it could feel like too much pressure right off the bat (which I completely understand). Do you have advice?
I'm sorry that happened. :-/
The good news is, you don't have to worry about it at all from a querying author standpoint. Frankly, agents don't care about your day job . . . unless it is actually relevant to your work, which is nice, OR if you are a bookseller or librarian or in publishing in some way, which is also nice - but none of those would be auto-accepts or anything, they are just interesting to know!
(By "relevant to your work" I mean, let's say you are writing a nonfiction book about Penguins, and you are a Penguin scientist -- that's interesting to know! If you are writing a book about Penguins and you are a dental hygienist, that's not relevant. Unless it's about Penguin TEETH, maybe!)
All of which is to say, don't fret.
1) in your bio, just put... nothing about your job? For example:
"I live in the Pacific Northwest with my pet Bengal cat and three terrible tortoises; this is my first novel."
"When I'm not dreaming about dragons, I write for children and young adults from my home in rural Alabama."
If your job WAS relevant to your work, you can just speak of it in the past tense: "I live deep in the woods of Upstate New York. I've been a barista, a pizza-maker and a Marine Biologist, but only one of those informed the writing of my book about sea lions. (Guess which one!)"
2) When you talk to the agents on the phone, it's true that they might get kinda put off if you came across as desperado -- like if you were to say "OMG I need to sell this book YESTERDAY, I'm starving and have loads of credit card debt, I need a six-figure deal" -- that wouldn't be great. We definitely can't promise a specific level of deal, or any deal at all for that matter, not every book sells at all or right away -- and the idea that it NEEDS to be x-amount or NEEDS to happen quickly is unrealistic at best, so it would make you come across as somebody who doesn't know much about publishing. (Which I'm sure isn't true!)
So, you know, play it cool. More good news is, they probably won't ask much about your day job except as just a mundane question you'd ask anyone -- "so, what do you do?" -- it's just something people say, small talk, it's not actually important what the answer is. So answer however you like?
I mean, don't LIE, that would be weird as hell -- I'm just saying, you don't have to get into the weeds about your problems or specific situation. "I'd been working my dream job but actually just got laid off due to budget cuts -- but on the plus side, that's left me more time to focus on writing!" -- or even "I'm a full-time writer at the moment! I might get back into a 9-5 at some point, but I'm glad to have a break from it for now."
Good luck!

Boston Terriers
This is my dog Leela. She is a Boston terrier. Boston terriers are charming and affectionate companions known for their distinctive tuxedo-like coat and lively personality. Originating in the late 19th century in Boston, Massachusetts, these small but study dogs have become beloved pets worldwide. I love my dog. She makes me so happy. She brings joy to my life. She became my emotional support. Boston Terriers are a beloved breed known for their friendly demeanor and distinctive appearance. However, like all dog breeds, they require proper healthcare to thrive. This essay will discuss essential aspects of Boston Terrier healthcare, including routine veterinary visits, diet, exercise, and common health issues. A balanced diet is vital for a Boston Terrier's overall well-being. Owners should provide high-quality dog food formulated for their size and age.
Tumblr media
Additionally, freshwater should always be available. Consulting with a veterinarian can help determine the best dietary plan tailored to individual needs.
Tumblr media
Boston Terriers are known for their playful and intelligent nature. They are friendly, loyal, and good with children, making them excellent family pets. Their  sociable demeanor means they often get along well with other animals. They bond well with family members. They thrive on human interaction and love to cuddle. Regular veterinary visits are crucial for maintaining the health of Boston Terriers. These check-ups help prevent diseases, ensure vaccinations are up-to-date, and monitor any potential health issues. Given their predisposition to certain genetic conditions, routine examinations are particularly important.Vaccines for diseases like rabies, distemper, and kennel cough will be administered as per the vaccination schedule. After a veterinarian visit, it's important to follow any recommendations provided, such as administering medications or adjusting diet. Keeping a record of health concerns and changes in behavior can also aid in future visits.
Tumblr media
Boston Terriers are relatively easy to train due to their eagerness to please. Regular exercise, like daily walks and playtime, while they enjoy playtime, they are also content to relax indoors, is essential to keep them healthy and happy. They can adapt well to apartment living. I have 5 of them living with me in the apartment, but they do need mental stimulation.
Training , Boston terrier responds well to positive reinforcement techniques. Consistency and patience are key. Exercise needs, daily walks and play sessions are essential to keep them physically and mentally stimulated. They enjoy games like fetch and agility training.
Tumblr media
Health considerations, being  a brachycephalic breed, boston terriers can be prone to respiratory issues. Regular vet check ups and a watchful eye for signs of distress, especially in hot weather, are crucial. Common health issues include hip dysplasia and eye problems. Costs can vary widely depending on the condition being treated, ranging from $20 to several hundred dollars. Emergency Visits, Cost: $100 to $300 (or more) Emergency visits can be significantly more expensive, especially after hours. Medications and Treatments costs can vary widely depending on the condition being treated, ranging from $20 to several hundred dollars. Diagnostic Tests  Blood Tests: $75 to $200, Urinalysis: $20 to $50.  These tests help monitor health and detect issues early. Dental Care, Professional Cleaning: $300 to $800 Dental health is critical for Boston Terriers, and cleanings are often recommended annually. Preventive Care Flea and Tick Prevention: $15 to $60 per month heartworm Prevention: $10 to $30 per month.
Tumblr media
Grooming, Boston Terriers have low grooming needs, weekly  regular brushing helps reduce shedding, and occasional baths keep their coat clean. Be sure to check their ears and teeth for proper hygiene.
Tumblr media
Boston Terriers are delightful companions that bring joy and energy to any household. With the right care, training, and love, they make wonderful pets that enrich the lives of their owners. Whether you’re considering adding one to your family or just want to learn more, Boston Terriers are a breed worth exploring. Their affectionate nature and playful spirit ensure that they will be a cherished member of your family for years to come.

tw suicide mention
Its the beginning of "Setembro Amarelo" here in Brazil- "Yellow September" in English. It's a shitty ad campaign for psychiatric work disguised as promoting mental health awareness and suicide prevention, and people still buy it despite the fact that the number of suicides in the country hasn't lowered at all since it started- in fact, it grew.
It's easy to understand why. Setembro Amarelo focuses on motivational speeches and symbolic gestures about the supposed 'value of life'. Basically, professionals tell people "Your life matters! Talk to someone! Look for professional help!" (as I said, it's an ad campaign for psychologists and psychiatrists). But this work ignores two very important facts: first, that not everyone has access to this type of care, because it's expensive and has really long waiting lines. Second, because suicide isn't always about valuing life. You can value your life and still feel like the only way out is to kill yourself. And it's not about being mentally ill either- suicide isn't always pathological and we need to see it that way
Last year I skipped on a Setembro Amarelo speech and fully told my professor that I was about to head out and do something better with my time. While we were talking, she told me about a case she had just tended to that very same week. A mother called social services to say she was about to hang herself. She was angry and sad and desperate but definitely sound of mind, and reasoned very clearly when asked why: "My family is starving. I can't work. And we can't afford another mouth to feed". No speeches about how her life mattered would feed her children. No talks about the importance of talking to someone would pay her bills.
Now I'm doing an internship at a big office here in my town and we need to plan a Setembro Amarelo action. The workers at this place have no health insurance. They have no dental. They definitely have no access to mental health care in any way shape or form. The owners are a pretty oligarchic family of old white dudes who barely pay their employees, and the corporate culture is racist and homophobic. But they want us to talk about how their workers' lives matter. Not enough to be cared for, mind you, just enough to talk about it for a month.
Idk where I was going with this vent, but I just rewatched the video "Suic!de and Ment@l He@lth" on Philosophy Tube, where Abigail Thorne talks about the medicalization of suicide and bravely opens up about her own attempts to take her life, and it hit me how much this message needs to be spread. How we need to understand suicide instead of blindly trying to "prevent" it by medicalizing suicidal ideation and acting as if it's both an illness and a lack of self value. Your life does matter, and that's why we need to fight for systemic change so that you have the means, psychological and material, to keep it in your own terms.

Wisdom is in the Gums of the Beholder
I have no idea where in canon this takes place, but this is after they meet Casey. TMNT 2k12-centric, Leo-centric (kinda), all fluff and family caring for eachother. Pro-shippers and t-cest, from the bottom of my cold black heart, KINDLY FUCK OFF, this is not for you, and will never be. 3,360 words
(Please note; I have never had my wisdom teeth taken out, nor am I a medical professional, if something is wrong, I’m sorry, I’m a 20 year old writing fanfiction about humanoid turtle teenagers who fight crime and eat pizza with their rat father)
You can also find it here: https://archiveofourown.org/works/43852438
-
Splinter had grown to understand one fundamental truth regarding his children. Whatever you may have expected of those boys, be prepared to have it completely obliterated. He had learned this far early in his care of the four turtles. He could remember when the boys were months old, toddling around the abandoned subway they called home. When Donatello first called him 'Dada!' long before his brothers.
He had grown used to his children exceeding his expectations, so why was he confused when he learned of the latest issue of his children. Leonardo, to be specific.
"I don't know why we didn't realize this sooner, that there was a possibility that we could have dental issues," Donnie spoke, typing away at his computer. The small family stood behind him, watching the screen as the purple-clad turtle worked. Leo stood at the back beside Splinter, rubbing his arm nervously.
"So, what's the issue, Donnie?" Raph asked, an annoyed expression on his face. The tall turtle turned around, looking at his family resignedly. "Leo is growing extra teeth in the back of his jaw, but there is no room for them. They are pushing against the rest of the teeth, causing pain and swelling. He needs to get them taken out before serious issues, like an infection, pop up."
Splinter stroked his muzzle in thought. The possibility of his sons having wisdom teeth had never crossed his mind; mainly because he had never had them grow himself.
"What would we need for you to remove the teeth, Donatello?" Donnie straightened, turning back to his computer.
"Give me a day to figure out what we need to have it done safely here. We're lucky we managed to catch this so soon; we have a little window to get this done." Leo shrunk a little more, arms crossed over his body.
"It appears so. In the meantime, you boys are to stay home unless completely necessary. Leonardo, you are to report to me if anything changes in your condition. Am I understood?" His son nodded stiffly, clearly uncomfortable in the position he was in. Splinter dismissed his sons, leaving Donnie to his work and Leo to his own devices.
-
As he had said, a day later, with the help of their two human friends, Donnie had come to a conclusion.
Donnie had called his family to the living room of the lair to discuss the steps coming forward.
"We need surgical tools; very precise, very small. Anesthesia to ensure Leo isn't in pain during the procedure, and soft foods for him to eat after everything is done. Pain medicine; the strong stuff. It wouldn't hurt to find extra blankets and pillows for him to have. Setting up a stable area for me to work and some place for him to stay until he feels better."
The clan, consisting of all but Leo himself, sat in the couched area, listening to Donnie speak.
They decided to split into groups. April and Casey got food and medicine; Casey somehow managed to snag anesthesia from a closed dentist's office close to the lair. Raph and Mikey fixed their living room into the perfect recovery room for Leo after his surgery, hunting down any and every fluffy blanket they owned and anything their brother liked into the pile. Donnie organized his lab into a makeshift dentist's office, cleaned everything he already had, and organized everything he would use.
And Splinter's job? He was on Leo watch. The teen had become moody since the clan learned about the issue, sulking off into another room at the sight of any one person. Splinter's job was to ensure his usually responsible son didn't injure himself further both before and after the surgery. He was also the emotional support his son needed before going under for the first time, like now.
Leo was in his bedroom, foot tapping on the floor rapidly. The boy had tried breathing exercises or meditating, but nothing calmed down the panic in his chest or the unforgiving throbbing in his jaw.
His head shot up when the sound of his door opened, revealing the sight of his father. "Sensei," Leo greeted, standing up. Splinter raised his hand, releasing his son from the formal greeting. "Your brothers mentioned you were hiding out in your room. Any reason why?" Leo looked away from him, green skin glowing with red.
Splinter walked into the teen's room more, looking around the space. His eldest son was the cleanest of his children, always making his bed in the morning and keeping a tight leash on the items he collected.
Splinter walked to the bed and sat down, patting the space beside him. Leo sat gently beside him. They sat together in the quiet room until Leo shifted, turning to face his father.
"Sensei... I'm nervous about this surgery." Splinter remained quiet, letting his son speak. "I- I don't like that I'm going to be vulnerable and that I will be unreliable if something happens." He looked Splinter in the face, where he had previously been shying away. "I know that I should trust my brothers and April, but- but a good leader needs to stay alert. And I can't do that if I'm loopy because of drugs." Splinter continued to look at his son, thinking of how to comfort the child.
"A good leader is alert; you are right on that. But, my son, no man is a leader at all hours. Even the greatest of ninjas took the time to recover and rest. You are safe with your family and me; we will be here if needed, and we will stay alert for you."
Leo nodded, taking in a breath. He leaned back, planting his carapace onto the bed. "Why couldn't Mikey be the one who had extra teeth?" Splinter chuckled, standing up from the bed, patting his son's covered knee.
"I learned long ago not to question the will of nature, especially when it comes to you boys." Leo groaned, covering his face with his hands.
-
On the day of the surgery, Leo was tense. After talking with his father, Leo had finally come out of his room, helping Raph and Mikey set up the living room and stocking the kitchen with the foods that Casey and April had gotten.
Donnie had finished setting up the lab with his equipment and called Leo to get him settled. Splinter was in the room, reviewing the final preparations with the purple genius. Leo sat in the reclining chair they had found and sighed. Donnie walked over with an IV attached to a metal pole, standing in front of Leo.
"Okay, brother. This," he gestured to the IV. "Is the anesthesia you will be on during the surgery. I will insert this in your arm, just above your elbow crease; all you have to do is lay back and count to 10." Donnie took the needle hanging on the hook, gently pushed it into Leo's arm, then taped the end down to secure it in place. Leo took a breath and shifted to get comfortable. "How do I know that it's working?" He asked, watching his brother mess with something on the counter behind him. Splinter stood next to the chair, looking down at his son.
"You'll know. Sleep tight," Donnie called back. Leo rolled his eyes, the answer not providing him any comfort. He sent a small smile to his father, sighed, and closed his eyes. He had expected to open his eyes again and feel the same, but Leo found it hard to open them like his eyelids were held closed by heavy weights.
"Do not fight it, my son," someone said to his left. He turned his head, trying to seek out the soothing voice, but his body felt so heavy, and a hand stroked his cheek. He hummed, sneaking down into the chair he was reclining in. Leo slunk off into dreamland.
-
The small family was in the makeshift recovery room now, Splinter sitting on the couch with Leo's head in his lap.
Splinter rubbed the top of his son's head, smiling softy at his unconscious son. Donnie had finished the surgery not too long ago and was cleaning his utensils, releasing his older brother into his father's care until he wakes up, or, well, 'wakes up.'
Raph sat with Mikey and April on the other side of the room.
April had her phone in hand, ready to record the silliness that would be Leo when he woke up. Raph was reading a comic book, foot tapping on the ground; Mikey was dozing on his shoulder.
Leo's head shifted slowly, signing the first of him coming too. April straightened up, attention drawn to the rising turtle.
Cobalt eyes peaked open slightly, looking up into his father's face. Splinter continued to rub the top of his son's head.
"Papa?" The teen squinted at his father, disregarding any formalness he was known for. His jaw was puffy, and his cheeks stuck out from the gauze in his mouth, muffling his speech slightly. Splinter's face softened at the sight of his son's state.
"Yes, my son?" He asked, his voice calm and quiet. His son's blue eyes searched his face before asking in adorable curiosity, "Why're you a rat?"
April giggled at the question, her hand covering her mouth slightly. She had started recording when Leo called his father, eager to send the videos she collected to Casey, who couldn't make it as support. He had caught a cold the day before and was now homebound with his father and sister.
"Well, I am a rat for the same reason you are a turtle, my son." Blue eyes blinked sluggishly like the answer had not registered before understanding crossed his face for a second. Then Leo opened his swollen mouth.
"Imma turlel?" The question came out quiet and squeaky. Leo's glassy eyes started to tear up; Raph snickered at the slurred speech. Splinter smiled, nodding his head.
"Yes, my son. You are a turtle." His blue son looked up at him before starting to cry. Splinter froze, watching his teenager sob into his gauzed mouth. "I don' wanna be a turlel!" Leo sobbed.
The poor turtle started to break down, jolting his two brothers off the couch across from him. Raph seemed to be on a mission, walking to where the bedrooms were in a hurry, while Mikey looked between his brothers in panic. He had been expecting delirious giggles and babbling, not his oldest brother to cry.
"It's okay, bro! It's not too bad being a turtle." Mikey said, jumping to his father's rescue after a second. Leo's teary eyes turned to him, crying momentarily stopped.
"You can hold your breath for a super long time! And we can jump super far! I don't know if that's a us thing or a turtle thing, but it's cool! Oh," Mikey continued, stepping back from the couch where his brother and father were. "And we can do this!"
Mikey then popped into his shell, which fell onto the floor with a thud! Leo shot up from where he was lying, nearly slamming his head into his father's muzzle. "Wow! I can do that?"
Mikey got out of his shell, standing back with a smile. "Sure can, bro! You can do as much as you want as soon as you get better." Leo groaned, flopping back onto the couch, crossing his arms. "That's boring."
Splinter stood then, ensuring his son was secure where he was. He walked up to Donnie's lab to check in on the purple turtle. In there, Donnie had just finished cleaning the tools and was putting them away with April. Her phone sat on the counter, and the cracky voice of Casey came out.
"How you feeling, Case?" April asked, leaning over the counter to see him on the screen. Donnie looked over from the shelf.
"Eh, better. My throat still hurts, and I'm tired but better than yesterday." April nodded, picking up another object and setting it in the cabinet.
Splinter walked to where the teenagers were, greeting Casey on the phone.
"Master Splinter, has Leo woken up yet?" Donnie stopped what he was doing to look at his father. "Yes, he is awake; Michaelangelo is watching him now." Donnie nodded, setting the last of the tools in the cabinet and walking out of the lab. Splinter followed after, talking to his son.
"The anesthesia should last a few hours, and he should not have anything too hard tonight," Leo rocked back and forth on the couch his father had left him on. Donnie walked over to him, squatting at eye level with his delirious brother.
"Hey, bro, how are you feeling?" Leo looked at his brother, a chubby smile sliding onto his face. "Donnie! Don, I feel like- like amazing! Imma feelin' funny!" Donnie chuckled, smiling at his brother.
"That's good, and you should feel good for a while because of the drugs." He stood up, taking his eyes off the teen still sitting, who had stopped rocking in shock. When he had stood up, Donnie saw the shock and horror growing on his brother's face. "Leo, what's wrong?"
"I'm on drugs?" The blue turtle looked heartbroken, staring up at his younger sibling. Donnie sucked in a breath through his gapped tooth. He hadn't thought about how 'Goodie Two-Shoes' Leonardo would react to being, technically, on drugs to get his teeth out. "Yeah, bud. You had to take anesthesia to make sure you're not in pain." His brother didn't like that answer.
"I don't wanna be on drugs!" Leo cried, bloodied gauze slipping from his mouth slightly. Donnie crouched back down, setting his hand on Leo's cheek. "I promised Papa I wouldn't do drugs!"
"Hey, hey, hey. It's okay, Leo." Donnie wiped the tears running down his panicked brother's face. "It's okay, bud. Dad's not gonna freak." Leo looked Donnie in the eye, shakily taking his brother's hand off his cheek.
"Don, you can't tell Papa!" He clutched the hand, squeezing it with great strength. "Please don't tell Papa I'm on drugs!" Donnie made a nervous face, looking over to his father, who was on the other side of Leo, who had heard the whole conversation.
Leo looked over and locked eyes with his father. His tears came down faster as he sobbed, "No!"
"No, you're here! You heard! I'm sorry, Papa!" Leo cried, hugging his father's middle. "I'm sorry I'm on drugs!" Splinter patted his son's shell, trying vainly to calm down his upset child. Raph returned to the room, holding a pillow that had not been in the room before. It was slightly lumpy, and Raph held it a little away from him.
He hopped the divider between the walkway and the recovery room and over to his crying brother. Leo looked up at him, releasing his face from his father's stomach.
"Here," Raph said, holding the pillow out to Leo. "It's cold; you can put in on your face to help the swelling and keep you calm." He gently set the pillow to the side of his brother's face. Leo froze when the pillow made contact, eyes wide in amazement, before closing them with a content sigh. "See? It feels better, right?" Leo nodded, releasing his father.
He took the pillow from Raph, laying back on the couch on his side, away from the TV Mikey had turned on. The cushion made its home under his face. Raph breathed a quiet chuckle, rolling his eyes at his now dramatic brother.
Splinter looked around the room before asking Donnie where Mikey was.
"I think he said something about making dinner for everyone. He should be in the kitchen now." Donnie then turned around, walking back into the lab to hang out with April before she left.
Splinter left to help make dinner, which left Raph alone with Leo, who was now dozing on the couch. Raph sighed, picking up his comic and getting comfortable on the couch.
-
Raph had been about half an hour into his job when he noticed his brother messing with his face. The blue-clad turtle was lying on his side, the other one this time, pillows and blankets piled around him. He was absently watching the tv, an episode of 'Space Heroes.' His fingers were playing with his bottom lip as he watched the screen. Raph raised an eyebrow ridge.
"Hey, buddy. Whatcha doin' with your mouth there?" Leo looked over to his brother, shock on his face. "I can't feel my lip!" He exclaimed. Raph chuckled, scooting closer.
"What do you mean? Your lip's right there." He pointed a finger to his brother's hand, still playing with the numb lip. His would-be leader looked at him, "Where?" he demanded.
Raph reached out and tapped his index finger against the lip lightly. "Right here," he said. Leo crossed his eyes, looking at where his brother was tapping and furrowed his brows. "No, it's not! That's my chin!" Raph laughed, dropping his hand.
"I promise that your lips are there. You just can't feel them." Leo gave him a look of disbelief but let the subject go, returning to his show. Raph was thankful that he let the issue go and watched the TV with him, amused with Leo giggling at the parts he found funny and repeating the lines he liked the most.
Raph tried to act tough in front of his family, but he didn't mind his brother's dumb shows. He found his brothers geeking out over the characters or the plot amusing. It was nice seeing Leo act like a kid, hearing Mikey gush about a plotline, or watching Donnie work on a project while absently watching some TV.
Splinter walked into the room, carrying a bowl in his clawed hands. Leo looked over at his father and gasped at the food the rat had brung him. Splinter smiled, telling his son to sit up to eat his food, to the grumbled complaints of the turtle.
After the light dinner of warm soup, the family, besides April, who had gone home, lounged in the recovery room, watching the tv as a family. Leo was leaning against his father, blankets covering him completely. Raph sat to his left, arms crossed and foot propped up on the couch, Mikey on the floor before him, slowly rocking from side to side. Donnie sat beside Mikey, lying on his side, typing on his T-Phone periodically.
Leo had been yawning when the rat father decided to call it a night, slowly leading his tired son to his bed. Leo spat the gauze out of his mouth before snuggling down into his bed. Splinter watched him for a moment, smiling at the once tiny turtle he had bought from a pet store all those years ago.
It amazed him, sometimes, to think about how much his children had grown. They were becoming young men, and they would not need him before long. Splinter felt proud of that fact, along with a bit of fear. He leaned down, placing a soft peck on his child's head.
He left the room after, softly closing the door behind him. His other children walked toward their rooms, rubbing their eyes in fatigue. As the teens passed, he exchanged 'good nights' before turning into his room.
In the morning, Leo was back to normal, although he was in pain in the back of his jaw. His family was the same as they had been before the surgery; Raph and he playfully fought over the remote to the tv, Mikey placed a whoopie cushion under the couch, which he had sat on, and at lunch, Donnie smelt of oil and grime. Yet, Leo could not shake the feeling that his siblings were just a bit more lovey. It was like they had seen him in a slightly different light.
Or maybe they just had an ultra-embarrassing video of him hula-dancing on the kitchen table or eating dirt in the lair after his surgery. That was the more likely option.
Oh well, just the life of Leonardo Hamato.

Random Idol Reactions to the Dentist Appointment
(Non-Tarot)
Tumblr media
Disclaimer:
All the described reactions are pure fiction and my own speculation and they are intentionally exaggerated to make it more fun to read. Please, do not take any of it seriously.
There people walking among us who fear the dentist beyond anything else in the world. They will avoid sitting into the dentist chair unless the pain forces them to make an appointment.
And then there are normal people like me who love to go to the dentist and diligently visit his office every 6 months to have the preventive check done. And don't let me start on the bliss of dental hygiene procedure. Well... I truly like to have my teeth taken care of by professionals.
But what about our lovely and cute idols? How do they react to dentist appointment?
Let's find out!
Tumblr media
Dongwoo (Infinite)
Dongwoo finds the dentist appointment a waste of time. He takes a good care of his teeth and doesn't need the dentist to tell him what he already knows. Dongwoo isn't the type to sit in the waiting room reading the outdated magazines there, he always brings a thick book with him and would gladly read it even while the dentist has their hands in his mouth if it was possible. Once the check is over, Dongwoo sets a reminder to his phone for next appointment.
Level of will to go to the appointment: 3/10
🦷👄💉
Tumblr media
Minhyuk (Monsta X)
Minhyuk makes a scene before going to the dentist, he screams and runs around describing all the terror he could possibly encounter in the dentist chair. He will insist on the fact no dentist appointment is needed and will postpone the meeting like 5x before he is forced by someone stronger than him (Shownu or Wonho) who will  drag him into the dentist office kicking and screaming like a big baby. The dentist hates him, because Minhyuk refuses to open mouth wide and when he does, he bites. After a little wrestle the check is finished, Minhyuk insists on getting a lolly and he leaves the dentist fast.
Level of will to go to the appointment: 1/10
🦷👄💉
Tumblr media
Donghae (Super Junior)
For Donghae the dentist appointment is one of the necessary evil in life. The kind of suffering all human beings has to go through. He accepts the dentist appointment with resignation, he comes on time, sits in the chair and obeys all instructions hoping for it to be over soon. Deep down he believes that women must feel the same about gynecologist appointments. Once the check is over, Donghae will take a sticky note with the date and time of next appointment which he will lose a week later.
Level of will to go to the appointment: 5/10
🦷👄💉
Tumblr media
Taecyeon (2PM)
Taecyeon coming for a dentist appointment is a big thing. All the nurses and assistants are there, no matter whether it is their shift that day or not. Taecyeon arrives with cute smile and small presents for the staff, spreading good mood and compliments left and right. The female staff is swooning from his presence and he knows it. Taecyeon cracks double meaning jokes till the dentist instructs him to open wide. And when he can't talk, he at least winks at the nurses. Once the check is over, he leaves the office with next appointment and several new phone numbers saved in his phone.
Level of will to go to the appointment: 7/10
🦷👄💉
Tumblr media
Love (former OnlyOneOf)
Love loves to eat and he knows he need good healthy teeth for that. He looks forward to his regular preventive checks, he arrives at least 10 minutes earlier to the waiting room, he gathers all the free-to-take brochures about how to maintain your teeth, gums and mouth healthy. Once he is invited to the dentist's office he begins a conversation, he knows all about his dentist's family life, the names of his children, he knows what kind evening classes their mother attends and what is the favourite TV show of their aunt. This applies to the assistant, too. Love sits in the chair relaxed while his dentist keeps the conversation going and Love answers with unarticulated noises. Once the check is over, Love sets a reminder of next appointment in his phone and he also notes it down in his calendar at home.
Level of will to go to the appointment: 10/10
🦷👄💉
Who is your spirit animal when it comes to the dentist? Are you scared of the checks? Tell me in the comments.
Just to inform you, I'm mostly like Love. Only I'm not interested in my dentist's personal life but I'm looking forward to the checks.
