i just woke up from a nightmare where i was katsuki’s U.A teacher and we were on a mission in Russia. our fucking helicopter crashed and we wandered the forest for hours and realized we both felt dizzy and nauseous and our skin was on fire then he fucking turns to me out in this open field and goes “there’s no birds.”
so i said “what tf do you mean no birds.” it was SILENT. no animals, no running water, and he looked around then back at me and said “there’s no birds, venus. theres no birds and there’s no animals cause it’s radiated.” god guys it was lile a fucking horror movie. just complete silence cause apparently we were near FUCKING CHERNOBYL. WE WERE RUNNING AND FOUND FUCKING CHERNOBYL.
then i woke up

Thinking abt when one of my supervisors was like "you're not going to see oppenheimer?? I thought you loved disasters and chernobyl and that stuff!!" And I was just like "... yeah I don't like dramatizations of it" bc I didn't have time to get into All That with a Moderately Disney Adult

if you dont mind sharing, can you talk more about your experience being haunted?
well it was definitely influenced by my paranoid delusions, but after i watched the chernobyl hbo miniseries back when it came out i developed this fixation on the idea that i was being haunted by the judgemental spectres of the real people who'd died in that disaster. it was so real to me that i couldn't even take a shower without feeling like they were in there with me somehow, just silently watching. i started showering in my clothes and barely slept at night because i was certain that there were eyes on me as i lay there, crowded around me. i hardly left the house because i couldn't bear to bring this congregation of ghosts i'd gathered anywhere and try to pretend that nothing was wrong.
i was terrified and visibly unwell but i didn't feel like i could tell anyone or it'd be a betrayal somehow. i didn't think the ghosts would harm me if i did, i wasn't scared that they had any ill intentions towards me at all, but i felt so unbearably guilty at the idea of exposing them to anyone and forcing them to be a spectacle. i think that might have been what induced the delusion in the first place; my guilt at participating in that spectacle (ironic considering i'm obsessed with the terror now, and historical rpf is an ethical minefield but hardly the root of all evil). that and a combination of extreme stress and isolation convincing me that my entire flat was haunted because i would hear noises at night with no discernable source coming from the other rooms - voices and music and activity, despite all my roommates being on holiday and denying anything when i asked them.
i didn't know what they wanted from me, but i eventually started to try to accept that it was irrational to feel so much guilt for an event that happened before i was even born and had no possible way of preventing or changing the outcome of, and the haunted feeling stopped bothering me so much. that's why i think that ghosts are psychological manifestations of emotion, especially guilt and grief. you can be haunted without it necessarily being supernatural in nature. and to me, those ghosts were real and very much present. they were never visible, but their presence was overwhelming. it feels like an insult to myself to deny that they had a real effect on me, even if they were just a delusion, and that's what a ghost is to me.

Sarcasm aside, hot take: with media literacy as dogshit as it is, there is absolutely no reason to dramaticize real historical events. We don't need dramatic retellings of horrific events, with fiction peppered between the pages. Blurring the lines between fiction and history is a terrible fucking idea.
This goes doubly with movies/shows whose "characters" are based off of REAL FUCKING PEOPLE WHO EXIST, OR EXISTED!! It's absolutely fucking disgusting. And creating "spin-offs" of these real historical events (there was a movie in 2022 called Titanic 666) is blatantly disrespectful.
The sensationalization phenomenon has to be stopped. We have no need for it.
I want HBO to make a dramatic 9/11 miniseries.
Maybe the perpetrators were just sad and tortured men :( I think we need to look at things from their perspectives.
I think Americans especially need to rewatch the horror and fear many of them lived through that day, and we should especially get into the violent and nitty-gritty details of what happened to the people in the towers! Yes they have to be violent and horrifying, we want to FEEL things for these people, don't we?
The people deserve a dramatic retelling of a real historical event!

Hi!😊 What are your favourite horror books, shows and or movies? I'm not very familiar with the genre, but when I was a teenager I was hooked on The Fear Street series (R. L. Stine) and Stephen King books (my faves are Salem's Lot and Pet Cemetery). Recently I read the book with the long title about vampires by Grady Hendrix and I also loved it. As for TV shows I love Mike Flanagan's stories 💚
Fun question! I'm gonna answer it without too much thought, knowing I'm leaving off some faves. Otherwise I'd take forever and make it less fun 🥲. In no particular order. . .italic = added later.
Books - I know that Grady Hendrix one 😅 - "The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires," I liked it too. And Pet Sematary as well. As a kid, I really enjoyed Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and imo the books hold up lol. I was also into Goosebumps. I like The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson and the miniseries. Horror-adjacent: The Snowman by Jo Nesbø; Sharp Objects by Gyllian Flynn (loved the miniseries, too). When I travel, I pick up a local ghost/hauntings book. Love folklore and urban legends.
Shows: Black Mirror, Dark, Hannibal, Yellowjackets s 1-2, Archive 81 (Matt McGorry is daddy). American Horror Story s1 Murder House. Dark Shows - Bordertown (Finnish). Maniac (sci-fi, the aesthetic scratches my brain soooo good).
Dark Non-fiction: series: Chernobyl, Dopesick, Dahmer, Murder Mountain. Unsolved Mysteries. Movies: The good nurse
Movies, skipping most of the classics: Coherence. The Bad Batch. The Guest. Barbarian. The Night House. Hell House LLC. The Lodge. The Endless. We Are Still Here. It Comes at Night. The Witch. Lake Mungo. mother!. Donnie Darko. Haunting in Connecticuit. The killing of a sacred deer. 10 Cloverfield Lane. The Menu. Candyman (both). [My idea of] Fun: M3gan, Us, Malignant, Terrifier 2, Bodies bodies bodies, It Follows, Thanksgiving, Green Inferno, Happy Death Day. And of course any I've written for.
Honorable mentions for physical effect: When Evil Lurks (Argentinian) made me physically gag out loud in the theater. I thirst-watched The Cursed and it gave me a nightmare (boyd wasn't in it ☹️). Tales from the Loop (sci fi series) made me sob.
I welcome no-pressure recommendations! More likely to try shows/movies.
