REASONS TO COME EARLY: Madeline Kenney

Bay Area-based dream pop artist Madeline Kenney comes to U Street Music Hall to open for Chaz Bundick Meets the Mattson 2 on April 14. She joined Chaz Bundick’s (Toro Y Moi) label, Company Records, last summer and has since released her Signals EP. She is joined by members from Perhapsy, Bells Atlas, and Astronauts, etc. as a full backing band after starting off with just herself and a loop pedal. The artist’s affinity for intricacy is seen through all aspects of her life - she’s a scientist, baker, dancer, and musician…and even directs her own music videos! Fans of The Mattson 2’s shoegaze undertones will especially be able to appreciate Kenney’s build-up in songs like ��Delicate” and “Thursdaze.” Her hazy and at times beautifully-haunting vocals, combined with her self-described obsession with looper pedals, create a thick, layered-sounding masterpiece of noise pop embedded with intricate drum patterns and electric guitar. Imagine Lykke Li goes shoegaze. The multi-talented Madeline Kenney is not to be missed!
