Chanel N°5 was both my great grandma and my grandmother’s favorite perfume. It is the scent I have been wearing this past week that has grounded me and brought me comfort.

I bought this bottle for my mother Christmas 2022 since my grandmother had passed November 2021. My mother loved this scent but it also made her sad remembering her mom.

We found the box as we slowly clean my mother’s things. I also found my mom’s favorite perfume that gives me comfort too.

Some think this is the old lady perfume, but for me it brings me memories of Maui and my home there. The place I spent summers at, the place of heartbreak and happiness. The place of my bloodline.

This scent grounds me through my grief and remembrance of my family and the mana wahine (powerful women) before me. 💖

How powerful scent can be to bring familiarity, comfort and ground us through our most vulnerable times.

Coco Chanel, auteure de cette citation est née le 19 août 1883. Prénommée Gabrielle, elle rêve de music-hall dans sa jeunesse, avant de mettre à profit ses connaissances en matière de couture. En confectionnant ses propres chapeaux et des tenues très originales pour l'époque, elle attire vite l'attention. Simples mais sophistiquées, ses réalisations plaisent �� une riche clientèle qui se presse, dès les années 1910, dans les boutiques parisiennes que possède notre créatrice de mode. Sa grande idée est de libérer la femme, en lui fabriquant notamment des habits moins étriqués. Toujours à l'avant garde, elle popularise la coupe de cheveux "à la garçonne" et lance des tendances intemporelles comme la marinière ou la célèbre petite robe noire en 1926. Elle est aussi la première couturière à proposer à la vente ses propres parfums. Le N°5 est aujourd'hui encore le symbole incontesté du chic à la française...
