Being Alone, Boo, and Cats: FooFog id 28796 1 Yr., 10 Mos. 43 lbs Spayed, & hopeful at Manhattan ACC Lovable cuddly, kissy & affectionate puppy - a total sweetheart! TO BE KILLED – 4/25/2019 A volunteer writes: “Yoo-hoo! There's a special someone you just have to meet. A crimson cutie with amber eyes and a tail that never stops wagging. "Woo hoo!" That's just what you'll say at the first sight of Foofoo. And no doubt she'll be politely waiting for her walk, sitting calm and still in her kennel. Ooh ooh! But just wait until you see how nicely she walks on leash, so well-mannered beyond her one year of age. And "shoo shoo" is what you'll likely have to keep saying to her legions of admirers, the second they see her sweet, friendly ways, and her penchant for doling out kisses. Foofoo is a young, social girl who would do best with a family who'll continue to be dazzled by her remarkable beauty, and one with an infinite amount of hugs and love to give. Foofoo has greatly enjoyed the company of other dogs at the shelter, holding the rarefied title of Playgroup Greeter Dog. Yoo-hoo! There's someone special you just have to meet, a crimson cutie ready to steal your heart. And "boo-hoo!" That's just what you'll hear from every soul who's ever met her, on the news she's off the market for good. Foofoo is waiting in adoptions at Manhattan ACC.” Hurry and MESSAGE our page or email us at [email protected] for assistance fostering or adopting FOO FOO. My Movie! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEHB4jjnM8I FOOFOO, ID# 28796, 1 Yrs. 10 Mos. old, 43.4 lbs, Spayed Female Manhattan ACC, Medium Mixed Breed, Tan / White Owner Surrender Reason: Cannot afford to care for her Shelter Assessment Rating: NEW HOPE ONLY Recommend: Adult only home (kids over 13 ok), single pet home Medical Behavior Rating: 1. Green AT RISK MEMO: FooFoo is very social with handlers, however her dog reactivity reported in home has also been seen in care center. We feel FooFoo should go to an adult only, single pet environment where this behavior can appropriately be managed. Medically FooFoo has some hair thinning around the neck, but is otherwise healthy. OWNER SURRENDER NOTES – BASIC INFORMATION: Foofoo is a large mixed spayed female, approximately 2 years old who was surrendered due to the owner having financial hardships at the moment. The owner adopted from us back in June of 2018. FooFoo lived with 2 adults. Foofoo is described as energetic, enthusiastic, friendly and outgoing when strangers approach her. Owner did not have any children in the home so behavior is unknown. Foofoo doesn’t not do well with other dogs. When on a walk or at a dog park, Foofoo will stiffen her body, hard bark and lunge at smaller dogs but will be fine when a dog of her size approaches. Owner took Foofoo to his friends house who has a cat. When the cat would approach Foofoo, she would bark and lunge at the animal. Foofoo will allow owner to take away her food, toys and treats away. Foofoo listens to commands when you tell her to drop the toy or treat. She has no known bite history. FooFoo is partially housetrained and has a very high activity level. She has no known medical concerns at this time. Other Notes: Foofoo isn't bothered when being pushed off furniture, trims nails or being brushed. Owner stated recently if you restrain her, Foofoo will growl. When unfamiliar people approach her home or when out on a walk, she is excitable and loves attention. For a New Family to Know: Foofoo is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, mellow and excitable. She has a very high activity level. Owner's favorite thing about Foofoo is her face, she's lovable and affectionate. She loves to cuddle and give kisses. Her favorite activities are tug of war and chase. Fofoo is kept indoors only. She was fed Taste of the wild, twice a day mostly. One cup in the morning and two cups at night. Her favorite treats are people scraps such as chicken and meatballs. She loves to snuggle and sleep in owners bed. She will have accidents in the home daily. When left alone in the home, Foofoo is anxious, will destroy household items and will have accidents. She has been crate trained but doesn't do well, she will still go potty in the crate and she will whine to get out. Foofoo knows the commands sit, stay, come, down, heel, shake and when owner tells her to hide, she will go in between owner's legs. She also knows the command roll over. For exercise, Foofoo loves to chase ball and jog with owner while he's on a bike. Owner states during the winter months, Foofoo will pull on leash but during summertime months she loves to enjoy the weather. She quickly becomes aroused and escalates to a bite and hold. Handler intervention is required to remove Foofoo from the other dog. The previous owner of Foofoo has also reported that she hard barks and lunges toward smaller dogs. It is recommended that Foofoo be the only animal in any future home, and be kept out of dog park environments. She should be muzzled if potentially being brought into areas where there may be areas of high dog traffic. Previous stay in MACC, 2018: 5/22: When introduced off leash to male and female dogs, Foofoo is soft and polite when greeting, engages in bouts of play. These dogs are not displaying concerning behaviors in shelter, and the owner surrender profile (where available) is positive. Some dogs with Level 1 determinations may still have potential challenges, but these are challenges that the behavior team believe can be handled by the majority of adopters. The potential challenges could include no young children, prefers to be the only dog, no dog parks, no cats, kennel presence, basic manners, low level fear and mild anxiety. Level 2 Dogs with Level 2 determinations will be suitable for adopters with some previous dog experience. They will have displayed behavior in the shelter (or have owner reported behavior) that requires some training, or is simply not suitable for an adopter with minimal experience. Dogs with a Level 2 determination may have multiple potential challenges and these may be presenting at differing levels of intensity, so careful consideration of the behavior notes will be required for counselling. Potential challenges at Level 2 include no young children, single pet home, resource guarding, on-leash reactivity, mouthiness, fear with potential for escalation, impulse control/arousal, anxiety and separation anxiety. Level 3 Dogs with Level 3 determinations will need to go to homes with experienced adopters, and the ACC strongly suggest that the adopter have prior experience with the challenges described and/or an understanding of the challenge and how to manage it safely in a home environment. In many cases, a trainer will be needed to manage and work on the behaviors safely in a home environment. It is likely that every dog with a Level 3 determination will have a behavior modification or training plan available to them from the behavior department that will go home with the adopters and be made available to the New Hope Partners for their fosters and adopters. Some of the challenges seen at Level 3 are also seen at Level 1 and Level 2, but when seen alongside a Level 3 determination can be assumed to be more severe. The potential challenges for Level 3 determinations include adult only home (no children under the age of 13), single pet home, resource guarding, on-leash reactivity with potential for redirection, mouthiness with pressure, potential escalation to threatening behavior, impulse control, arousal, anxiety, separation anxiety, bite history (human), bite history (dog) and bite history (other). New Hope Rescue Only Dog is not publicly adoptable. Prospective fosters or adopters need to fill out applications with New Hope Partner Rescues to save this dog.
