Women’s bodies exist only as trends that go in and out of fashion. We spend hours and hours obsessing over the way our bodies look, scrolling through social media and comparing what we see in the mirror to what has the most likes on Instagram. Women obsessively work out and diet to achieve these bodies, ass workouts, waist slimming workouts, weight gain diets, weight loss diets on and on just to fit the mold of the body that’s in right now. Women spend thousands and thousands of dollars on cosmetic surgery, lip fillers and tummy tucks and BBLs and breast augmentations, even procedures that promise to “freeze away” fat cells. Or pills and supplements guaranteeing ass growth or weight loss.
Men’s bodies are not treated this way. Sure, there is a market for weight loss/muscle gain for men. Capitalism profits off of sowing insecurity. But nowhere near the extent that there is a market for women’s bodies, that ingrains shame and insecurity and obsession with getting the perfect body into women from the time we are just little girls. Sometimes I wonder how many hours I have lost to these things, when I sit scrolling through TikTok and comparing my body to the current beauty ideal, I wonder how men and boys my age have spent that time. Instead of doing things I enjoy, learning a new hobby, talking with friends, I have lost probably hundreds of hours throughout my life wishing I could look like some woman on the internet.

1400-1700 The Italian Renaissance - Looking full with a rounded stomach, large hips, and an ample bosom is in. Being well fed is a sign of wealth and status. Only the poor are thin.
Why do we treat our bodies like we treat fashion? “Boobs are out! Butts are in!” Well, the reality is, manufacturing our bodies is a lot more dangerous than manufacturing clothes. Stop throwing your body out like it’s fast fashion.
