Earthing chamber cover supplier
An earthing chamber cover supplier provides covers for earthing chambers, which are enclosures used to house and protect earthing or grounding connections. These covers are essential in protecting the earthing points from environmental factors like water, dirt, and accidental damage. Here’s an overview of what to consider when looking for a supplier:
1. **Material Quality**
- Covers are typically made from materials like galvanized iron (GI), cast iron, or composite materials for durability and corrosion resistance.
- Choose a supplier that offers high-quality, durable materials suited to the environmental conditions of your project.
2. **Compliance with Standards**
- The supplier should adhere to local and international standards for earthing systems, such as IEC 62561 or IEEE 80.
- Compliance ensures the covers meet safety and reliability standards, especially in high-risk applications.
3. **Customization Options**
- Many projects have unique requirements in terms of size, shape, or weight. Look for suppliers that can provide custom-designed covers to fit specific earthing chambers.
4. **Pricing and Availability**
- Suppliers often offer different pricing tiers based on material and order volume. It's wise to compare a few options to find the best value for your needs.
- Some suppliers maintain stock for common sizes, which can be beneficial for projects with tight timelines.
5. **After-Sales Support**
- Consider suppliers with robust after-sales services, like replacement parts or warranty options. This can be valuable for long-term maintenance.
6. **Sustainability**
- Sustainable options, like recyclable materials or eco-friendly manufacturing processes, are increasingly available from suppliers that focus on environmental responsibility.
Would you like a list of some prominent suppliers, or are you looking for specific details on the covers?

The Best Gas Charcoal Combo Grills
The best gas charcoal combo grills reviewed
1. Best budget: Dual Fuel Combination Charcoal/Gas Grill
The value that this grill provides is difficult to match. Three sides are included: a charcoal side, a three-burner gas side, and a 12,000 BTU propane side burner. You get 295 square inches on the gas side as opposed to 262 on the charcoal side, making the gas side slightly larger. Cast iron is used for the grill grates, while the propane side features 3 stainless steel tube burners with a combined 24,000 BTUs. You get a height-adjustable tray and a front access door for adding charcoal on the charcoal side. Although installation takes some time, the instruction manual is comprehensive and all necessary tools are included.
Customer Reviews Reason to buy: ✅ Value for money: For a dual fuel grill with all of these capabilities, this pricing is fantastic. Reason to avoid: ⭕ Long assembly process: Similar to the majority of the grills on this list, this grill requires you to carefully read the directions and will take a long time to put together. 2. Best Overall: Char-Griller 5050 Duo Gas-and-Charcoal Grill
The company Char-griller specializes in making reasonably priced, high-quality smokers, grills, and related accessories. One of the market's most adaptable grills is their 5050 Duo Gas and Charcoal Combo Grill. This hybrid grill is made of sturdy stainless steel and has heavy-duty cast-iron grates that have been porcelain-coated for longevity. Grease can be easily removed by brushing the grates clean. You get a major cooking area of 438 square inches on the gas grill and 580 square inches on the charcoal grill with this grill. If this was not enough, both the grills feature separate warming racks. A cast-iron gas burner is also included in the propane and charcoal grill combo to aid in the preparation of your sides. Additionally, it may be made into a workspace by folding down the cover. Additionally, the grill comes with three reliable steel burners that together produce 40800 BTUs, enabling you to heat the gas grill to 500 degrees. You can quickly fire up your barbecue with the electric ignition.
Customer Reviews Separate temperature gauges are also included on the lids of the dual gas and charcoal grills for easy measurement of the inside temperature. Reason to buy: ✅ High heat production ✅ Storage for condiments and a bottom rack ✅ Significant cooking capacity ✅ Easily put together ✅ Supplementary side gas burners ✅ Flexible grate for fine-grained temperature adjustment ✅ Temperature indicators Reason to avoid: ⭕ Poor components ⭕ High expense of maintenance ⭕ Not very resilient RELATED: Best Infrared Grills: Great Models to Purchase in 2022 3. If you'd also like to smoke: Pit Boss Memphis Ultimate 4-in-1 LP Gas, Charcoal, Smoker
The Memphis from Pit Boss will meet all of your needs if you're searching for a single, all-purpose grill and smoker. This grill checks the boxes for both gas and charcoal cooking, and it raises the bar even further by including an electric smoker feature. Although Pit Boss is better renowned for its selection of reasonably priced flat top grills and pellet smokers, the Memphis offers a 4-in-1 cooking option. 2,167 square inches total cooking space, made up of: - 1,327 square inches of grill cooking space - Smoker electric - 840 square in. With the help of several adjustable vents, you can chill smoke or offset smoke in the gas or charcoal chamber.
Customer Reviews Reason to buy: ✅ Provides complete coverage - It's great to have a charcoal or propane grill. The smoker is excellent to have on hand even if you don't anticipate using it. Reason to avoid: ⭕ Be prepared to spend some time assembling this grill because it is a big, sophisticated machine with many parts. ⭕ Several quality control concerns It's difficult to know if this is the result of faulty assembly or Pit Boss's lack of quality control, but many customers have complained about pieces that don't line up, improper seals, and variable temperature. 4. Best combo grill: Smoke Hollow 4-in-1 LP Gas Charcoal Smoker Searing BBQ Grill Model PS9900
Combo grills are typically described as combining a charcoal grill and a gas grill. It's not the same with Smoke Hollow. A remarkable FOUR different forms of barbecue are combined in this unit: propane, charcoal, smoker, and infrared searing burner. The cooking area on this amazing barbecue is a whopping 860 square inches. 30,000 BTUs of power are spread out over this vast area. The infrared burner is a wonderful enhancement. Although side burners are frequently found on gas grills, this one is ceramic, as is typical of high-end infrared grill models. Ceramic is an excellent heat-distribution material, so you can adequately heat food while using less energy or heat leakage. In order to assure durability, it also includes cast iron grates on both the charcoal and propane grill elements. Additionally, it has temperature gauges. It weighs 168 pounds, which makes it heavy but portable. It features top and bottom dampers, much like any decent smoker, so you can properly experiment with BBQ smoking techniques. Reason to buy: ✅ Incredibly adaptable, having an integrated infrared searing burner ✅ Sufficient grilling area ✅ Easy to put together, especially given the size Reason to avoid: ⭕ Uncertain design ⭕ Smoker boxes may be picky. ⭕ If not properly covered and stored, rusts easily. 5. Best compact combo: Char-Broil Gas2Coal 3-Burner Liquid Propane and Charcoal Hybrid Grill
With 540 square inches of cooking space, this Char Broil combo grill is on the lesser side of the spectrum. It is significantly smaller than other types of combo grills since it consolidates its charcoal and gas capabilities into a single grill. While the Char Broil offers excellent gas and charcoal grilling, this does not imply subpar performance. Its amazing 40,000 BTU output for its propane element is spread over 3 burners. These are placed beneath cast iron grates, which means that very little of the heat generated by them is lost and is effectively dispersed around the surface of your grill. You place a tray, which serves as the grill's charcoal element, beneath the grates. Simply deposit your coals in this tray, then put it back into the grill. It could not be any easier and takes hardly any time.
Customer Reviews The tray simply tucks away into a compartment on the side of the grill when not in use. Then, it also has a side burner, which by itself has a BTU output of roughly 12,000. I like how this is separate from the gas and charcoal elements; if you want to cook over charcoal slowly and then quickly sear it, Char Broil has made this very simple for you. Reason to buy: ✅ Streamlined and light design ✅ Simple to switch from gas to charcoal ✅ Side heater and a functional shelf ✅ Built-in gas and charcoal storage Reason to avoid: ⭕ Reduced total cooking surface. 6. Best value: Char-Broil Oklahoma Joe's Charcoal/LP Gas/Smoker Combo
The Oklahoma Joe's Charcoal/LP Gas/Smoker Combo might be what you need if you're seeking for a single multi-fuel grill to handle practically all of your cooking demands. This monster combines a 3-burner gas grill, a classic charcoal grill, and an offset smoker so you can cook everything without having to clutter up your backyard with a BBQ joint's worth of equipment. Because the charcoal and gas cooking surfaces are positioned side by side, assembling a two-zone cooking setup is incredibly simple. Three 12,000 BTU burners on the gas side provide 36,000 BTUs of heat, and there is also a side burner. Because of the offset firebox, the charcoal side also functions as a smoker. You can place the charcoal in the offset chamber and use the numerous dampers on either side of the firebox and smoking chamber to distribute the heat and smoke evenly over the meal without directly heating it. Or, for more conventional grilling, just add charcoal to the main chamber.
Customer Reviews Although the Charcoal/LP Gas/Smoker Combo is made of strong gauge steel, it is not stainless, thus if you intend to leave it outside, it is better to get a cover. Both the cooking chambers and the firebox contain six cooking grates totaling 1,060 square inches of cooking surface, lid-mounted temperature gauges, and cool-touch steel handles. sufficient for a sizable cookout. Reason to buy: ✅ The grill serves as a smoker and lets you cook with gas and charcoal. ✅ The grill includes side burner temperature ✅ Handles with a cool feel Reason to avoid: ⭕ Heavyweight ⭕ Expensive
Conclusion
After conducting research and testing several gas charcoal combo grills, our findings show that the best gas charcoal combo grill is the Weber Summit Charcoal Grilling Center. This grill offers the convenience of a gas grill and the flavor of a charcoal grill, with a large cooking area, versatile cooking options, and high-quality construction. It features a gas ignition system that makes it easy to light the charcoal quickly and efficiently, as well as a built-in charcoal bin that allows for easy disposal of ash and debris. In addition, the Weber Summit Charcoal Grilling Center comes with several other useful features, including a removable LCD timer, a built-in rotisserie system, and a built-in smoker box. It also has a durable, porcelain-enameled finish that resists rust and corrosion, making it a long-lasting investment for any outdoor cooking enthusiast. While the Weber Summit Charcoal Grilling Center is a high-end option, it offers excellent value for its price, and its performance and features make it the top choice for anyone looking for a gas charcoal combo grill that can handle all their grilling and smoking needs. EVERY TIME RUTH IS THERE JUST FOR ONCE PLAYS UNDER THE DIALOGUE. UNWELL. SHE DID GET TO ACT BUT IT WAS. JUST FOR ONCE
FUCKIN RAISINS CALLBACK WOOHOO!!!
half of the score is just show stoppin number and i am HERE for it-the triumphant version when hidgens dies? spooky piano version of ‘business calls’ in the opening? the title music kinda jazzy thing? i see you
when officer bailey is hiding bc he forgot he has a gun and richie is talking to him show me ur hands plays…top ten hatchetfeild motifs its in all three of the stage shows too
MARY KATE WILES IN HATCHETFEILD REAL?!
WHEN HIDGENS TELLS RUTH TO STICK TO THE SCRIPT I THINK THAT THE OPENING TO INEVITABLE PLAYS OHH MY GOD (not so sure but that was my first thought. only reader response analysis in my house) (it also plays under when they say “chad’s coming” so i think it’s something else im missing)
lah dee dah dah day under when the audience is talking to each other! okay!
NOOO WHEN IT SWITCHES TO RICHIE AND GRACE TALKING THE SCORE GOES TO THE IM NOT A LOSER MOTIF SOBBING
meg…and eve…and sue…and marge…and leah…and chad
the piano intro to the song they play over the credits almost sounds like the beginning of tgwdlm…same tune also shows up in yellow jacket
matt dahan i owe you my life
PLAYBILLS:
ZOEY CHAMBERS (Henrietta) is humbled beyond words to be a part of this groundbreaking production. Zoey has been enchanting audiences for years with her portrayal of badass girl-bosses like Sandy from Grease and Fantine from Les Miserables. Zoey would like to thank her brother, Zack, for giving her the acting bug all the way back in the third grade! It’s ironic that Zack thought he was the actor of the family but Zoey would go on to completely overshadow him in every way. Sucks to suck, doesn’t it, Zachary? Zoey would also like to thank her roommate and fellow cast member Hailey! Hailey is perfectly cast in her very small and inconsequential part. The role of Marge is just so uninteresting and one dimensional that it helps mask Hailey’s limited range as an actress, as well as other flaws, such as not being pretty enough to pull off an ingenue. Enjoy the show and be sure to check out (can’t read due to finger covering it sorry :{) for spicy pics.
RUTH FLEMING (Secretary #4) is so fucking stoked for her acting debut! This is the best thing that’s ever happened to me, I mean, her. Ruth ran the lights for her school’s shitty production of The Barbeque Monologues and was also the Assistant Stage Manager for The Wizard of Oz…it sucked. She got bullied and excluded by the whole cast even though her job was just as important as theirs. More important actually! Being in the cast is way better. You don’t even have to think of an excuse to barge into the dressing rooms you can just walk right in! Everybody takes off their shirts and lets their titties tumble free! It’s the most awesome thing I’ve ever seen…I mean she’s ever seen. Anyways, Ruth doesn’t want to thank anybody because nobody did anything for her.
CASSANDRA KING (Eve) is elated to be present with you fellow vessels in these fleeting moments. Everything has transpired exactly as the lights in the sky foretold. Cassie had never been a believer in prophecy or the ethereal spaces between…but she’s seen too much to deny the truth now. She no longer fears the visions, or the pain that comes along with their descent. Pain is the price of knowledge. Pain is the language that unites the children of Azathoth, no matter which star they may hail from. Cassie wants to see what lies at the end of the cold hall. She’s ready to see the face of the girl screaming in the dark. How did she find herself aboard? And what is the destination of such a magnificent she? Is tonight the night Cassie departs? The lights give no answer. And so she waits for deliverance. Cassie would also like to thank her boyfriend Chris.
HAILEY DILMORE (Marge) is so lucky to be a part of the best cast in the world! She has no idea how she managed to worm her way into this talented group of ladies! You may recognize Hailey as a Pink Lady from Grease or Disciple #3 from Godspell. Hailey would like to thank her fellow cast member, Zoey Chambers. Zoey has been an inspiration, a mentor, and, above all, a friend. She’d also like to thank her parents and her dog, Walter. Also, she’d like to apologize to the cast once again for blowing up the bathroom every single day during rehearsal. She’s so sorry she made it stink so bad that everybody had to cross the street to use the toilet in Bank of America. She really doesn’t know what’s happening to her bowels. She will be going to the doctor after the show closes and get everything sorted out. Enjoy the show!
okay my main takeaway from these is that zoey’s the worst and there is a Bank of America across the street from the Starlight Theatre which means i have to update my hatchetfeild map
MORE PLAYBILL!!
THE BARBEQUE MONOLOGUES
The Tony-award winning musical serves up a well done tale of one typical American suburb. When folks gather around the grill, they share so much more than a dug out and a cold one. Secrets, obsession(?), dreams and betrayal, these are some of the entrees at the barbeque.
BLINKY’S WATCH PARTY
A musical extravaganza through Drowseytown! It will be oh so wonderful to see you again, Bill! Yes Bill, I’m talking to you. Don’t bother showing this to Ted. No one else will able to see it. But I can see you, Bill. I’ve been watching you, with Nine-Hundred and Ninety Nine Eyes. One short, thanks to your little twist(?). It’s time I get you back, Bill. What’s the old expression? “An eye for an eye” Hahahahahahahahahaha!
MAMMA MIA!
A terrible show about sad women singing ABBA. A truly miserable experience, I can’t stress that enough. This show will make you hate ABBA as well as all musicals. You’ll never want to listen to ABBA’s two good songs ever again. Beware, friend. Beware. Abandon all hope ye who enter here.
SANTA CLAUS IS GOING TO HIGH SCHOOL!
i can’t read it at all sorry :{
JUST GOT THE CHANCE TO WATCH WORKIN BOYS AND AS WITH EVERY HATCHETFEILD PRODUCTION I AM AMAZED BY THE CALLBACKS IN THE SCORE AND DIALOGUE

Himmeløyne [15/?]
Pairing: Loki Odinson x Reader
Catch Up Here | Masterlist
Warnings: Drunk Thor, Sad Y/N and unhappy Heimdall...so just melodrama
A/N: ...Finally all caught up with the ao3 updates. Now to disappear for a short time on my dash.
Taglist is open! Reblog, comment or leave a like please ☺
~Y/N
The tavern still kept that stale scent you’d first caught a waft of on your first visit. But the noise was different; less evenly spread out and more singular. In the centre of the room, Thor was raving in slurred speech like a man with a grievance against every single patron in the room. Except his grievance was personal, separate and alien to the other drinkers.
He would town an entire tankard of ale and then demand another with sloppy fingers hitting the poor wooden bench. Once he had a full cup again, he’d begin his lamentations that ranged from stories of his youth about Loki’s mischievous machinations to angry shouts of abandonment.
“He lied to us!” Thor spoke into his ale. “All of us!” He looked up to the disinterested people in the tavern. “Your King lies to you this very moment!”
“Telling all is well…” Thor whispered to himself as he stood, legs jolting up so fast he nearly lost balance. “Woah!” As he righted himself, he laughed into his tankard, ale pilling onto his chest. “Why did he do it?”
You chose to watch him for a while. The strangers in the tavern eyed you suspiciously. It was a new look you’d never noticed before. Perhaps it was to do with your appearance. It mattered not, they were not of importance to you. Nor was their hushed murmuring behind tankards of ale.
Suddenly, Thor’s eyes went wide, “Hammer! Hammer! Where’s my—Oh, there you are.” He ducked next to a leg of roast boar, grinning from ear to ear. “He was a fool! Only fools don’t fear my hammer…” His mouth drooped at the corners, a waver in his voice. “Only fools wield hammers.”
“Only fools…” Thor fell, but more out of exhaustion than a lack of footing. You moved from the doorway and went to his side, a weary exhale gracing your dry lips as you patted down the ale with your cloak’s end.
“Oh, you big lout,” you looked down at Thor. “So this is how you’ve been spending your days.”
Thor looked up at you and laughed in his drunken stupor, “Little Stormbringer!”
“Come on,” you tried to get him onto his feet. “Let’s get you to bed.”
“Did I ever tell you about the time Loki turned into a snake?” His breath was ripe and hot across your cheek.
“Oof,” you choked back a gag. “No, but I’m sure it’s one for the ages.”
Thor began reciting the story as if it were one told a thousand fold. You struggled to hold him up, your body weaker than before; all the muscle of Sif’s training turned to softness around poking bones.
As you lost hold of Thor, sending him crashing onto an empty table, you waved your hand on instinct, calling forth that bristle of energy that used to reside under your skin at all times. But the even though the magic listened, it never answered you, and you were reminded for the second time that day, your magic wouldn’t help you.
You sighed, preparing to lift Thor and restart the cycle, but then a hand fell on your shoulder, the armour digging into your exposed shoulder.
“Let me,” Heimdall offered. He didn’t look you in the eye, he’d made a habit of not doing so since the leeching began. You didn’t blame him for that.
Heimdall reached down, and in one fell swoop, he hoisted Thor to his feet.
“Heimdall, old friend,” Thor beat him large hands on Heimdall’s armoured chest, letting out a banging noise. “Care for a horn of ale?”
“I think you’ve had enough,” Heimdall said with a sharp edge to his disapproving tone.
“Enough?” Thor shouted. “Yes, perhaps I have had enough.” His words were darker than they seemed. Lonesome. Sad.
On the walk to the tavern, Thor spouted more of his lamentations. To your surprise, no one around seemed to care for his words of kingly deceit and brotherly loss. Everyone skirted past with the expression one has when a drunk stumbles and yells nonsense; weary disaffection.
“Does no one hear him?” You asked as Heimdall led Thor up some steps. The stench of alcohol was lighter out in the open, but Thor’s voice became a frighteningly, loud echo.
“The All-Father cast an enchantment,” Heimdall said.
You swallowed the poisonous burn trudging up your oesophagus as the mention of Odin and more of his precarious magics. “An enchantment?”
“The Spell of Igneia,” Heimdall said. “Those who are ignorant to the source of the words spoken remain ignorant to the words. We can hear Thor because we all witnessed the same things. Others did not. And so—”
“They remain ignorant of it,” you finished for him. “Then what is the story being spun of the attack?”
“I do not know,” Heimdall’s jaw clenched down tight, the gold in his eyes flashing near coal-fire red.
“You’re lying,” you said softly. Not in anger or disappointment, just factually; the way Loki would murmur things that he surmised in a plain fashion, forgetting for the briefest second that manner and fact could rarely be separated in polite company.
Heimdall stopped walking then, turning with the bellowing Thor drooping his fighting shoulder, “You. The story is a half-truth—your magic. A tale easily believed given your current state.”
You could feel the brunt of his scowl hit like ice water in your veins. For some reason, you didn’t like the idea that he was upset with you. Heimdall’s eyes flickered to one red mark that peeked under your sleeve. His nose curled up in a would-be snarl had he been a wolf. A whisper under his breath going unheard. Then he continued on.
“It’s the only way,” you defended yourself against words you didn’t even hear.
“It was the easiest way,” Heimdall lectured over his shoulder. “No matter how you choose to spin this story, I do not believe that you made the right choice. Not what I am reminded of what the leeching does to you every—” He sighed. “We’re here.”
Heimdall waited for you to open Thor’s quarters. The room was in disarray; much like yours, except instead of papers and tomes, there was broken furniture and gutted down pillows. Rage lived in this room. Mjolnir had been buried under some broken furniture, as though Thor tried to make a perimeter of wood and iron around the weapon.
Heimdall set Thor on the bed and promptly made his way to the door. With his hand on the latch, he said over his shoulder, “Find a better way.”
“There isn’t one,” you rubbed at the leech marks as if doing so would make them disappear.
“You can’t be afraid of yourself forever.”
“I am. And so should you. You saw what I did. I won’t be anyone’s mindless weapon. If this is what it takes to stay as myself, then the price is fair.”
“I don’t see it that way.”
“Then see it in whatever way you please. My answer is final. Until a more effective method of nullifying my abilities is found, I will keep at it.”
“Then…” Heimdall breathed in, his body stretching out to its righted posture and high chin. “I shall have to find you one.”
With that, Heimdall left, and you were alone with Thor. His ravings had lowered to a sleepy-whisper now. That made it worse. Made him sound raw.
You thought of what Frigga would do to console him and then you helped him out of his boots before covering him with a blanket.
“You know, I always wanted a sister,” Thor said with a mild smile. “I thought—Never like this…”
He wasn’t making much sense, so you simply patted his hand and replied, “Sleep, you need it.”
“I could say the same for you,” Thor said, a look of expected pity in his eyes. “He liked you…Likes you. I don’t know which way to speak—past or present?”
“That’s the trouble, isn’t it?”
Thor turned to his side, away from you and sobbed, “It’s my fault.”
You brushed his arm, “And mine. And Odin’s for his secrets. And my mother’s for not telling me what I was sooner.” Your lips trembled at this part: “And Loki too, for trying to protect me.”
Thor kept still for a few moments, settling into your words. “How do you handle it…the guilt?”
You looked at your reflection in the mirror, soulless eyes of a strange creature staring back, “I don’t. The only reason I left my room was because of Sif. I was happy to stay locked away, in my routine. For eternity if need be.”
“Eternity ends faster than we think, doesn’t it?” Thor sat up, soberness of the shared pain making him more alert, “Then let’s make a pact—to hold off on the end of Eternity for as long as we can.”
You chewed your inner cheek, correcting him plainly, “To end this, you mean?” You gestured to everything; you, him, the rage cluttered room.
“An end to an end,” Thor said, reaching his arm out for you to accept.
You locked your fingers around his forearm, Thor’s grip on your own forearm came off more powerful than you had anticipated. You worked around the wince on your face and said, “An end to an end.”
You walked to the door and wished him goodnight.
“Goodnight, Little Stormbringer,” he said with the affection of a brother.
On your way to your quarters, you heard the muffled sounds of healers near the healing chamber. Eavesdropping never bore you sweet fruit, but there was little that could change that now; so you listened in.
“Any improvement?” The head healer—the woman you had flung like a rag doll upon your first awakening—asked another.
“Physically, his wounds have healed,” there was a pregnant pause, prickling with anxious static. “I fear, this is beyond us. He should have awoken by now. If he has, I can only assume something is preventing him from regaining consciousness. Or…perhaps—” the healer’s eyes skittered about, hands twining and untwining.
“Spit it out girl,” the head healer demanded.
“A few of us believe it’s his own doing.”
The head healer scoffed, “Impossible, he hasn’t as much as twitched of his own accord.”
“Those with magic do not think alike to us,” the other healer whispered, closing in on her superior to say: “What if the rumours are true? What if he isn’t entirely Asgardian?”
“Hush, foolish girl, you speak dangerous words. Go now, leave for the night,” the head healer barked with authority before rushing away from the exposed hall ways.
The healing chamber was more claustrophobic than you remembered. For one, Volstagg was snoring in a corner, looking less beat up than before. Hogun was either sleeping on the chair or keeping very quiet in the night as he watched over his friend. A few guards from the night of the attack were also getting treatment.
You walked passed them, towards the back where a spiral staircase led up to a private healing chamber. The room was enormous and beautiful and cloistered. The kind of tower an ornamental flower was grown to die in. Overlooking the endlessly beautiful landscape, but unable to be touched by the waters of rain or the sounds of birds; a mausoleum of glass.
Loki remained in the same place he’d been since you woke up; suspended in that clear, golden curtain of energy, hovering like a beautiful painting lost to a world with no gravity. His hair had grown an inch or two longer, somehow the shine of the energy field made his hair look blacker as it moved like liquid. His jaw was set right again, a small scar under it left as a reminder. He was dressed in robes of emerald. Long fingers looking cold and untouched. Lips without colour and skin nearly grey—paler than ever before.
You walked over, quiet so not as to stir anyone else in the chambers, but there was no one else. You looked at his face and thought of him—the snake and the man—and the words that haunted you over and over: “Never leave my side again.”
You took his hand and never felt his finger tighten the hold. You leaned over and whispered: “You should have wished that my eyes to grow dark.”
No reaction. No flinch or tweak or tug and pull of a simple tendon. Blankness.
You sighed, “You asked me to never leave your side, and yet look at which one of us isn’t here…Look!”
Again, nothing.
“Open your eyes and look at me! Answer for what you’ve done!” You wanted to beat and pounded at his chest. To hear him let out a groan or gasp as he laughed into your ear and took your hands in his. “I bewitched you?” You were shouting at the air. At the empty spaces in between. At the Loki of the past.
“I bewitched you?” You shouted again. “Trickster! Tempter! Liar! If I bewitched you—truly—why can’t my enchantment bring you back? Why can’t you feel how much I need you?”
You let go of his hand, feeling the weight of it to be too burdensome. “Is it true? Are you not waking because you don’t want to? Because of me?” You crumbled to your knees. No tears came, only the sandpaper feeling of a dry throat. You looked at the red marks on your arms and said: “I can’t hurt you anymore, so please, please, come back.”
And for the grand finale, silence, yet again. Always silence. You fell asleep in that beautiful mausoleum, on the cold, hard floor, too listless to walk back to your room.

Of Virtuous and Filial
A sharp, salty scent of sweat hung in the air, clinging to the small chamber like an unwelcome pest. The small bar blocked hole, a pitiful excuse for a window, high above where Yvain sat offered little reprieve. Mere dashes of salty air, on rare occasion when the wind was strong enough. This was an ugly place. Old gray stone it was built from covered in equally ancient stains, as well as lichen which grew from the cracks between the blocks. The only way out was through the iron gate, somewhat rust eaten, which served to keep him inside the small cell. For a cell it was, nothing more.
One he might feel inclined to break out of, in truth, but with his hands bound in hefty wooden cuffs and the dull throb of pain lingering from the hastily stitched up wounds that shinobi, of all things, had given him, Yvain felt it more prudent to bide his time. With naught but water to quench his thirst these past days, he felt tired and worn. Any forceful action will demand what little energy he has left. From the moment Maelstrom were late to the affair Thya and he were embroiled in, he felt there was something amiss. Even more so now.
He was cast into this cell under suspicion of murder, he was told, even though it was plain to anyone there that Thya and he were the accosted ones, not the other way around. Despite that, he was prepared to let it pass. Inexperience in the guards, and truth be told, finding bodies in the Wards is bound to cause a bit of concern at the very least, but the excuse could not work now that the days have been passing by. The weasel looking lieutenant of the unit seemed all too eager to keep him under lock and key, though to what end, Yvain was not too sure.
A nearby door scraped loudly against the floor as it opened, prompting the Elezen to raise his gaze, his musings interrupted. A few moments later, he was looking at a vaguely familiar face.
“Ah...” He finally placed the Elezen staring down at him, as well as a few other pieces of the puzzle. “Ser Reginald de Luc. To what do I owe the pleasure?”
Reginald’s gloved fingers closed around the bars of Yvain’s cell, the man sneering down at him like a victorious conqueror might at a defeated foe. “Abelard. A nobleman turned vagrant adventurer. The man who walks the righteous path. Look at you now... Did you truly think you could just trample upon work of others without a consequence?”
Yvain’s eyes narrowed. Another suspicion confirmed. “The ship my Farstriders raided was yours.”
“Yes. As was the cargo you,” here the word he said seemed to leave a bad taste in his mouth, “Liberated.”
Yvain kept his silence. The original cargo was crystals, sure enough, which Maelstrom had made a leve for Farstriders to intercept, but the ‘liberated’ one? Girls taken against their will from Shroud. People. Not cargo. The very thought of people being treated thus ignited a flame in Yvain’s heart.
“Not only time you interfered, either. You and yours have interrupted another delivery, in distant Thanalan as well.” Reginald’s features contorted in a wry smile. “Costly, but again, no such thing comes without a price. Once, a man might forgive. Twice... well, my Father suffers no adventurer fools twice.”
“Your father?”
“You should know, Abelard.”
Yvain did know.
Gerelt de Luc. After saving the girls, he had sent word to his Mother in Ishgard. The name ‘de Luc’ seemed vaguely familiary, back then, so if anyone would know, it would be his parents.
De Luc family was exiled for crimes of embezzlement, extortion and thievery. Lord Ector Abelard was one of those who ensured justice was brought forth. Perhaps, in a way, the one most responsible for it. It was an old story, and Yvain was but a child when it came to pass. No wonder he did not remember the name immediately.
Not that he wished to speak about it with this man. “Why keep me here, then? My throat is easily slit. I will assume lieutenant Potter would have looked away, for the same coin which made my being kept here possible.”
Reginald’s hands left the bars. There was a hint of regret in his voice. “I would have gone for that. Alas, my brother wanted to teach you a lesson. Keep you apart from your fellows, then show you their bodies. I fear his capacity for rational is limited, but Father allowed it.”
“Judging from all the noise I heard tonight, I assume that went poorly.” Yvain favored the man with a thin, sharp smile.
“Indeed,” the other Elezen admitted without a pause, “They even got away. Your lot was to be an example, but alas, my brother underestimated their tenacity when he sent his men.”
“We all do what we can, to help those who cannot help themselves.”
“I wonder if that worked as an excuse to the stalwart lord Ector?” The question hung in the air, Yvain’s silence greeting it. Reginald’s eyes flashed in the gloom of the hallway. “Did not, did it? Or you would not be the vagrant son. Righteous and virtuous you may be, Abelard, but you are not filial. Not to your family, nor to your country. In eyes of Ishgardians, I think, you will always be the man who abandoned Her, no matter your reasons. Not a lot different than I.”
A poor comparison it was, though the slight did sting a little. Even so, Yvain would not be distracted. “I made my own choice. It was not a crime, but all choices carry their weight.”
“I was not given a choice, Abelard. It was taken from me, as was our home in Her city.” Reginald regarded Yvain with a flash of old longing in his eyes, “You do what you can to help others. I do what I can to help my family. I am a filial son, no matter what comes to pass.”
“Words alone will not kill me.”
Reginald shook his head, then gestured to another man, who promptly opened the cell. Another stood nearby, with an open dagger lightly pressed against a side of roughed up young man whose hands were bound and mouth gagged. The wide eyes filled with fear told a story of their own.
“My Father will. Disaster this might have turned into, but he demands some satisfaction. Obey and come without a fight, or this man will die. And when I give word, his family too.”
A flame of indignation flared within Yvain’s soul at the words and the sight, but he did naught but rise to his feet and step out of the cell. When he caught Reginald’s gaze, the man merely smiled. It was a thin, almost wistful smile.
“You walk a bright path. Such a path is always filled with pitfalls.”

♛ ATTENTION THOSE IN SUNSPEAR !
a plot point, occurring within the midsummer ball —
as those at the ball begin to CAST THEIR VOTES FOR THE SUN GOD & SUN GODDESS COMPETITION at the midsummer ball, things are beginning to… — - happen whilst everyone is enjoying and revelling in the merriment.
distracted by the merriments and her recent entry into the sun goddess competition, MORRA ( @captain-morra ) is unaware of the chaos — ... right up until the moment panicked young girl grabs the ornate fabric of her dress sleeve and yanks it so hard that the riiiiiiip is heard loudly, beads scattering across the ground. before the greyjoy woman has time to gather her anger, the wide-eyed and panicking cinder smudged girl hurriedly explains that the deck of the lady greyjoy’s ship is ablaze; sails eaten by fire and her crew scrambling out of their celebratory state to save the vessel before it is destroyed. without many words exchanged, she gathers her skirts around her and roughly knots the dress out of the way as she takes off running to the utter shock of the surrounding nobles and royals. she disappears towards the docks, with four of her best crewmen on her heels as the red-orange hue of the flames begin to push upwards into the night sky.
after being told of lysella's robbery, NICHOLAS ( @nicholaslannister ) has a growing suspicion the man from the tavern earlier that night might have found a way into the keep and located his sister at the opportune time — or maybe he simply wished to believe it, so he could get revenge over whoever had robbed his kin, left a mark on her skin and taken away her priced possession, his own mother's necklace. filled with fury, the lord of casterly rock stormed out of the castle, the servants he passed quickly got out of his way as they marked his furious expression. this time the man would be receiving his dues, there would be no cedric tyrell to step in and control the lion’s roiling anger.
DOWN ON THE DOCKS — morra.
MORRA / HANNAH: you arrive, exhausted and breathless from running to the docks of sunspear, skidding in horror in the sand with shoes long gone as you behold the shadow tide wrapped in flames and plumes of black, acrid smoke. you know the smell of burning wood, you’ve seen it many times before but this smell is mixed with the smell of pitch. you know then that this is an intentional fire. luckily, the crew are working hard and have smothered most of the fire down but the heat from the charred wood is still strong, and the damage is clear. luckily, the hull is not breached and the ship is in no danger of taking on water but the shadow tide is grounded until further notice. it takes another hour of work and countless buckets of water before it’s safe to board again, at which time the crew all fan out to inspect the extent of the damage. the first thing that comes to your mind is the confidential documents and correspondence between you and your eldest brother, the lord reaper of pyke detailing the new changes to the iron fleet and the growing number of new vessels that have joined the growing fleet in the last two years since your father passed. arriving at your captains cabin you find, to you utter relief, that the fire only licked at the door and the solid wood and iron lock is still in tact, un-breached. you breathe a sigh of relief as a call from your loyal men pulls your attention, the crew headcount is complete: one member’s body has been found floating in the dark waters - having jumped to save himself from the flames but perished, several have burns to their hands and arms but nothing life threatening... however a long-time loyal member of the shadow tide’s crew, RED HARRAS, a bastard sailor from old wyk, is the only man unaccounted for. as the last man aboard the ship on patrol duty you order a stern to bow sweep of the smouldering, blackened ship in search and then you move to inspect your chambers, a worrying feeling settling in your stomach.
your suspicions are proven right when you find the back window of your captains quarters smashed in and wooden boxes broken open: clothes, shoes, smashed wine bottles staining fabrics, bedding ripped apart, papers obviously strewn about, trod on and it is clear someone has been searching viciously through your belongings. you pour over the documents frantically, hoping the confidential ones detailing the fleets growth aren’t gone — but deep down, you know that they aren’t to be located. after the search of the ship, red harras is nowhere to be found... and a lifeboat is found to be missing along with some rations and a sick feeling of potential betrayal sinks into your stomach. that doesn’t end the chaos of the evening, when your first mate swears loudly, angrily and yells ‘captain!!’ — pulling you from your rooms, though you pause to lock the door behind you. rough bristled deck-brushes, hard work and fresh, sea water have revealed the shocking scorch pattern of the fires origins... and clear as day in the ruined wood of the bow’s deck is the thick outline of a seven-pointed star: the holy sigil of the faith of the seven. the followers of the drowned gods are riotous, an attack on the religion of the iron isles is beyond what was expected and the malcontent spreads quicker than the fire did.
LIST OF DAMAGE TO ‘THE SHADOW TIDE’: discovered after the fire is fully extinguished and morra, with the help of her crew, has taken complete stock of the damage over a few hours.
the flames have destroyed the fabric of all sails completely
the main mast is broken; snapped in half and charcoal red-black
the other masts are also broken, burned away into blackened toothpicks
the whole deck is charred various shades of black, covered in ash and soaked wet from the effort of the crew
the railings all around the bow are compromised and burned
the hull is charred but not breached
the bow-section of the deck is the most damaged, and clearly where the fire was started and burned hottest
the back window the captains quarters has been smashed inwards
MISSING:
a lifeboat, it appears to have been cut free
a half-sword, chainmail, rations of food, wine and water
confidential documents detailing the true numbers in the iron fleet (only morra knows of this)
pouch of gold dragons from the captains quarters
TASK:
MORRA / HANNAH: write a letter to your eldest brother the ruling lord greyjoy in first person format. strictly informing him of what has happened, the potential traitor in the crew (red harras), the missing documents and letters, ultimately asking him to join you in sunspear in the wake of the attack.
OUTSIDE ELIA’S SMILE — nicholas.
NICHOLAS / CHERYL: with each step, you find your anger growing, your thirst for revenge seeming like it would be near insatiable... but then, in the darkness of the dornish evening, your feet hit a semi-solid lump near tripping over, and a choked groan leaves the ‘lump’ — which you now realize is a man. you look down in surprise, eyes focussing in the shadowy lamp-lit street, to see a man. he is shirtless with blood streaming from a messy head wound, giant bruises upon his chest and abdomen, his face horribly beaten up and mangled. your first instinct is to kneel to help, but you pause as you recognise (just) the beaten mess at your feet. some of those bruises you know are yours from earlier... but when you were pulled away the fool had still been able to stand.
the man gasps, coughing pitifully as he struggles to breathe, but before you can decide what to do, a shrill scream assaults your ears and you instantly look up from the wheezing, likely death-bound man to see the elegant signage of ELIA’S SMILE, dorne’s famed brothel. you lock eyes with a dark-haired woman surrounded by other prostitutes as she stares at you in horror, disgust and fear. you open your mouth to explain but she points her trembling finger at you, ‘lord lannister came to finish the job, he was the one who beat up my sweet ulwyck and now he's murdered him!’ the woman shrieks, sobbing as the other women wrap their arms around the woman.
then all hell seems to break loose around you. more dornish townsfolk, drawn out by the screams and sobbing, gather around the scene with their faces contorted in rage, all seemingly condemning you as guilty. you try to convince the hoard of dornish men and women that ulwyck is indeed still alive, but they dare not approach you, nor do they seem to believe you. shouts of ‘murderer!’ ‘foreign dog!’ only draws more attention to the scene... but then among all the hostile faces of strangers you see a face you recognise, the only one with no fury in their gaze — it’s LOREN SERRETT ( @lordlorenserrett ), your brother's master of coin. you decide to push through the crowd, trying to keep a blank expression in front of the mob hurling insults at you. grabbing hold of loren serrett, the two of you begin to quickly make your way back to the festivities, going through the backstreets to avoid coming across any more angry locals. you are in shock and furious upon the realisation that someone has set you up to look like a brutish and corrupt lord commander.
TASK:
NICHOLAS / CHERYL: 1x1 thread with loren serrett who had been sent by arryk to keep an eye over the lannister lion; though it looks as though loren was perhaps too late. persuade loren serrett that you were not responsible for the state of the man, that you are being set up, and try to ensure that he keeps this between the two of them. work out which one of you will be the one to inform king arryk.
OOC NOTE:
if you have been assigned a task or paired thread, (not everyone will be, it is again up to chance!) please do complete it as we have put a lot of energy and time into creating these and tailoring them to each character or pair. there is no word count minimum, or any conditions save for completing the task within a fortnight/14 days of it being posted. we cannot stress this enough: it does not need to be long, the point is to have your character react to what has happened to/around them. unless you have spoken with the admins, if you don’t complete the task, or respond/reply to the paired thread it will affect your activity come the applicable check, as well as this your character will not be eligible for the next random event selection.
while this may seem quite stern, we don’t mean it to be. though we must impress that the admin and mods put several hours of work into these posts, we know and love how you all get very enthusiastic at the idea of the random events, and we are ridiculously excited to bring them to you all, but it is very discouraging when nothing comes of the plots we post up and we have noticed this has been happening. if you have any problems please let us know via the main blog, but in the mean time —
THE FABLED D&D DICE OF IRONFORGED HAVE BEEN CAST …
@captain-morra / @nicholaslannister … for better or worse you have been selected!

Game 40: Voodoo Castle (1979)
Scott Adams’ covers are always a good representation of what you’ll find in the game.
With Voodoo Castle, it’s time for another game in the “Scott Adams Adventure” series. I’ve enjoyed them all so far, to varying extents: Adventureland was a well-executed attempt to get a game like Colossal Cave Adventure onto a home computer, Pirate Adventure (written alongside his wife Alexis) was a welcome step away from the fantasy genre, and Mission Impossible gave me one of the earliest adventure games that isn’t a treasure hunt. Regardless of how they play today, Adams’ text adventures are a cut above their contemporaries, at least in the home computer market.
Voodoo Castle is credited solely to Alexis Adams in the game itself, but I’ve seen other sources credit both her and Scott. Scott has apparently said in later years that he did most of the work, while Alexis has claimed that the game was all hers. I don’t know the truth of it, so I’m going to credit them both while assuming that the bulk of the design came from Alexis. I don’t believe that I credited Alexis when I wrote about Pirate Adventure, which was remiss of me: as the first known female adventure game designer she deserves some recognition.
The original release of the game seems to have been by the Software Exchange in July 1979, for the TRS-80. As I understand it, the Software Exchange was the game publishing arm of SoftSide magazine. Adventure International didn’t form until some time in 1979, so all of Adams’ previous games would also have been first published by the Software Exchange. I’m playing a later TRS-80 version of Voodoo Castle, that’s credited to Adventure International, but if you scroll down to my new section Ports of Call you’ll see that I checked out a few different versions.
The premise of this game is an odd one: Count Cristo has been placed under a voodoo curse, and it’s up to the player to save him from his plight. There’s little else to go on. Is Count Cristo a good dude? (Probably not, all counts are vampires.) Are you his friend? Is there any reward for this benevolent activity, beyond the satisfaction of beating a video game? Having beaten this game several times, I am not much the wiser.
This count is Monte’s brother, Santo.
The game begins in a chapel with a closed coffin. Opening it revealed the count’s body, a rhyme outlining the objective of the game and a sapphire ring. I did my usual pregame ritual: I for Inventory revealed that I was carrying nothing, and SCORE revealed that there were no points to obtain in this game. Waking Count Cristo from his voodoo coma was my sole objective.
Before I begin describing the game, I want to point out the weird capitalised As in the text above. There are only a couple of them on that screen, but I can tell you that they are all over this game. There are plenty of lower-case As, so it seems to me that this was a deliberate stylistic choice. I spent a good portion of the game thinking about this, and wondering if it was a deliberate clue to a puzzle. It wasn’t, it was just a piece of formatting that bugged me a lot. I’m still baffled by it.
Taking the ring, I saw that it was inscribed with the words WAVE ME. Doing so had no effect here, but I kept it in mind for later, and started exploring and mapping. West was a ballroom with a fireplace. North was a room with a window that slammed shut upon my entrance, and couldn’t be opened. South was a stairwell and some passages which I decided to ignore for now, though I did take a piece of broken glass I found there. East was a door with a sapphire embedded in it, as well as a bloody knife. I took the knife, but trying to take the sapphire was fruitless (those old treasure hunting instincts die hard). The door wouldn’t open, but waving the ring caused it to disappear and reveal a chute. (Also, I’m just now realising the connection between the sapphire ring and the door with a sapphire in it. I just waved the ring here hoping that something would happen.)
Sliding down the chute (with no way back up) I found a room with a crack on one wall and a hole on another. There was also a plaque, but because the letters are phosphorescent I couldn’t read it in the light. (If I hadn’t been carrying the broken glass, I’d have been told that the print was too small for me to read. The game doesn’t indicate that I’m using the glass here, and is bad in general at letting the player know when an item is being used passively.)
The crack was too narrow for me to pass through, and I was informed that I’d need powerful magic to get by. I was able to get through the hole though, into Medium Maegen’s Mad Room (or as the game irritatingly puts it, “Medium MAegen’s MAd Room”. I startled the medium when I entered and she disappeared. Not knowing how to get her back I decided to examine her crystal ball, but “spirit vibrations” drove me from the room, leaving me conveniently at the top of the chute.
I decided to check out the fireplace this time, which I was able to enter. I found a dusty idol there, and a flue that opened easily to give me access to the chimney. The chimney was dark, and much like Colossal Cave Adventure moving around in the dark can break your neck in this game. Dusting the idol revealed that it was glowing, though, and I was able to get up there safely. All I found was some soot, and wooden boards nailed to the chimney wall. The boards were solidly in place, but somehow I was able to take the soot. Don’t ask me how, but I gathered it all up because this is an adventure game and has a pretty hefty nine item inventory limit. I could also hear someone moaning, which made me think of zombies, so I got the heck out of there.
On my way out of the fireplace I was accosted by a maid who was angry about me tracking soot everywhere, and she hurried me out of the room. I found myself in a dungeon with a shovel on the floor and an open jail cell nearby. I decided to enter the cell, and the door slammed shut behind me. Inside was a leaflet, which read “For a reading just “SUMMON MEDIUM MAEGEN” today!!” Typing SUMMON MEDIUM didn’t do anything here, but the game did acknowledge it, so I made a note to try it elsewhere. Unfortunately, the cell door was now locked, and nothing I had on me was able to open it. I couldn’t even dig my way out with the shovel. There was nothing for it but to restart. (To be honest, I never did figure out how to get out of the cell on my own. There’s a saw elsewhere in the game, and you can SAW DOOR to get out.)
Starting over, I decided to explore south. Up the stairwell I found a stone statue of a Ju-Ju Man (who I gather was some kind of voodoo priest). Exploring east of the stairwell I found a room with a big kettle full of soup. Eating the soup gave no response, but examining the kettle revealed a dark hole underneath. I pushed the kettle aside, climbed down, and lighting my way with the idol found a lucky rabbit’s foot.
North of that was a room with some animal heads (on the wall, one assumes, but I guess they could just be severed heads on the floor). I wasn’t able to take them, so I explored to the east and found a cast-iron pot containing “witch’s brew”. I was a bit more suspicious of this than the soup, so I didn’t try any. (Eventually I succumbed to my curiosity, and found that it transforms you into a broom. A witch then appears and rides you away, for a quite bizarre game over.)
Further east I found a lab, with three items of interest: a Ju-Ju bag, some test tubes, and some chemicals. I was keen to examine this stuff, but as soon as I tried to open the bag one of the test tubes exploded, and I was unceremoniously killed.
The only random factor in this game, I’m pretty sure.
Starting over again again I headed west from the stairwell and found the dungeon. This time I ignored the open cell and went south to the torture chamber. There I found a tiny door, which was far too small for me to enter. Again, I was told that I’d need powerful magic to get through. East of that I found an Armory, with a shield, a broken sword, and a suit of armor which was too heavy for me to lift. The game didn’t recognise WEAR as a command, so I took the other items and left.
At this point I’d explored all the paths that were obvious to me, and it was time to begin painstakingly putting this puzzle together. And I do mean painstaking: I was determined to get through this one without any outside help, because I’ve been leaning a little too hard on walkthroughs for my liking. Every step of the following process involved lots of trial and error, and much wailing and gnashing of teeth.
The first thing I figured out was that I was able to take the animal heads using the broken sword. Behind them was a safe, with a dial numbered 33 to 38, that I wasn’t able to open. The second thing I figured out is that I could survive the exploding test tubes by carrying the shield. As with using the glass to read, neither of these results were signposted. I had to figure out what was going on myself. (Incidentally, you can carry these exploding test tubes with you as long as you also have the shield. I spent way too long exploding every room in the game to see if anything would happen.)
Now I was able to examine the Ju-Ju bag, but I discovered that it couldn’t be moved or opened… yet. (If there’s one thing the game is good at, it’s letting you know that an action will be possible in the future.) Instead I examined the chemicals, which I was told looked like they could be mixed. So I mixed the chemicals and drank them like any good scientist, and was rewarded with a clap of thunder and a reduction in height to 4 feet tall. This is never reversed, by the way: the protagonist of this game remains four feet tall forever. Such is the price for meddling with voodoo, I suppose.
Now that I was small I could get through the door in the torture chamber, and past it I found a graveyard. There was a rusty saw there, as well as a four-leaf clover growing out of a grave that was supposedly reserved for me. (With the deaths I had suffered already, it was probably getting a little crowded in there.)
Exploring around a little, I went back to the room with the window. This time it stayed open when I entered, apparently because I was carrying the lucky four-leaf clover. On a ledge outside I found a doll with pins in it. I couldn’t pull them out, but a voodoo doll had to be important in Voodoo Castle so I held on to it.
(There’s also a raven that flies around the window, and if you listen it tells you to go and buy The Count, Scott Adams’ next adventure. Apparently it will be “LOVE AT FIRST BITE!”, a pun the authors are so proud of that they capitalised it and gave it an exclamation point.).
At this point I finally remembered the leaflet that had told me that I could summon Medium Maegen. So I went back to her room, and after she vanished I typed in SUMMON MEDIUM. Sure enough, she reappeared and gave me a cryptic hint.
Give it to me straight, lady!
I figured that this meant the Ju-Ju bag could help me through the narrow crack, but seeing as I couldn’t move the bag at all right now it wasn’t that helpful a revelation. But on my way to the medium’s room I had passed by the plaque that I’d been unable to read before. Obviously I needed some darkness to read the phosphorescent writing, but I didn’t know how to make it dark in that room. I’m embarrassed to say that it took me a very long time to figure out that I could pick up the plaque, and carry it to a dark room. I dunno, I figured it would be screwed into the wall or something.
So I took the plaque into the dark chimney (leaving my glowing idol temporarily behind) and was able to read its message: “safe –> 38 33”. I went to the safe behind the animal heads, and after some wrangling with the parser – the relevant commands were TURN 38 and TURN 33 – I got it open and found an antique hammer inside. (I guess it’s antique to explain why the hell it’s being kept in a safe.)
Back to the fireplace, I used the hammer to take the nails and then the boards. Behind those was a grate, which I cut open with my saw. Behind that was a button, and pressing it activated a fan that sent me whooshing up the chimney. All this time I’d been worried that the moaning I could hear meant that I was about to be eaten by a zombie, but what I found further up the chimney was somewhat less frightening: a stuck chimney sweep. Obviously the fellow wasn’t too happy to be in there, so I tried to help him and eventually hit on PUSH SWEEP. Grateful to be free, he gave me a piece of paper before leaving. On it was written this message:
Chim-chimerny, chim-chimerny chim-chim, cheroo I only exist to solve puzzles for you
“SAY ZAP to restore someone changed to stone.” I went back to where I’d left the Ju-Ju man statue, said the magic words, and restored the Ju-Ju man to life. He was standing there mumbling, and at this point I got a bit worried and high-tailed it out of the room. The game warns you that you might be in trouble, and the packaging tells you to “beware that you don’t end up a victim of the voodoo man”, so I was wary of this guy. It turns out he’s friendly, and if you listen to his mumblings he will tell you to take his bag, as it will help you -CRACK- the curse. I missed this unsubtle clue, but in the end it didn’t hinder me too much.
I’ll refrain from a joke about bags and cracks.
After trying a bunch of stuff I discovered that I could now take the bag and open it. Inside I found a stick and a book on removing curses. Inside it read: “With knife in hand you take a stand. Circle coffin and…” The rest of the page was missing, but I finally felt like I was getting somewhere. The only place left for me to explore was the crack, and I guessed that the rest of the page would be somewhere beyond.
I took the bag down to the crack, but I still wasn’t able to get past. This is where I really got stuck, and spent a good half-hour trying dumb things and experimenting just to make any progress at all. I actually had to sleep on this one, and as is the way of such things when I got back to the game I hit on the solution on my first try: WAVE BAG. (The medium had clued me in on this by telling me that a “moving bag” would get me through, but I only figured out what she was on about in hindsight.) Beyond the crack I found the page, and the rest of the ritual: “…wave the stick and hold the lamp and don’t forget to yell “CHANT”! Oh yes, to help it succeed, a doll you’ll need…”
I had everything I needed, so I took it all back to the coffin and started trying to cast the ritual on Count Cristo’s body. None of it worked. Not circling the coffin, not waving the stick, not telling the game to go screw, not nothing. I only hit on the solution by accident. Figuring that emptying my inventory might help, I started dropping things. When I tried to drop the lucky rabbit’s foot, I got a message: “On what?” Knowing how limited the parser was, I skeptically typed in ON CRISTO. It worked! I was able to go through the steps of the ritual, and eventually succeed in lifting the curse.
Smiling Count Cristo could definitely be a wrestler from the 1970s.
So I was only technically victorious: I hadn’t figured out how to escape the jail cell, so the info I got from going in there came from earlier games where I’d died. I still got to the endgame though, even if there was one puzzle I didn’t figure out. I’ll take it!
Despite the satisfaction of beating a game legitimately, though, I didn’t get much enjoyment out of Voodoo Castle. Adventure games often operate on a sort of weird Rube Goldberg/puzzle box logic, but most of the other ones I’ve played at least try to disguise it somehow. This game just rolls with it, and makes very little attempt to explain itself. Why is there a chimney sweep stuck in there? Because it’s a puzzle, that’s why. “Because it’s a puzzle” is the entirety of this game, and it nagged at me the whole way through. It’s well constructed, but it’s so obviously constructed that it hurt the experience, at least for me.
Before I get into the RADNESS Index, here’s my Trizbort map of the game:
Clickin’ makes it bigger.
RADNESS INDEX:
Story & Setting: The game doesn’t do a lot to explain the context, but there is a story here: the count is cursed and you have to help him. Who cursed him? Why? Why are all the things you need conveniently scattered around the castle you’re in? Who is Medium Maegen? Why can’t she do the ritual if she’s so great? Why the hell is there a chimney sweep stuck in the chimney? It goes on and on. Because puzzles, that’s why. Rating: 1 out of 7.
Characters & Monsters: We’re in early adventure game territory here, where the characters serve no other purpose except as problems to solve. They have no personality, and no reason to exist otherwise. Rating: 1 out of 7.
Aesthetics: Text adventure, no sound, terse descriptions. You know the drill by now. Rating: 1 out of 7.
Puzzles: I will actually give the game some praise here, it does have some good puzzles, and all of them are fair. Sometimes it’s not all that clear when you’ve solved a puzzle, or that there was a puzzle to solve in the first place, but in hindsight the solutions all make sense (even if some of the situations don’t). Rating: 3 out of 7.
Mechanics: I’ve always been a fan of the split-window style of the Scott Adams adventures, and even though this is a simple two-word parser it does the job adequately. I had a couple of moments where I had to wrack my brain for the right command, but none of them stumped me for too long. Rating: 4 out of 7.
Challenge: I spent most of this game frustrated, and making progress felt painful, but in retrospect I was never stuck for long. The puzzles were all fair, the random deaths were minor setbacks, and I was always making some kind of progress. And I was able to finish it without a walkthrough. Rating: 4 out of 7.
Fun: Despite the things I praised above, I didn’t actually enjoy playing this game. I just found something impenetrable about it’s weird illogic, which isn’t something that normally bothers me this much, but in this game it did. For whatever reason, I couldn’t connect with it, and the whole thing felt like pulling teeth. Rating: 1 out of 7.
Bonus Point: 0.
The above scores add up to 15, which doubled gives a RADNESS Index of 30. That places it 20th overall, and 11th for adventure games. Coincidentally enough, it’s equal on points to Pirate Adventure, which seems appropriate. If I’d been able to connect with it a little better it might have done quite respectably.
PORTS OF CALL:
This is a new section I’m trying out, where I try to play through some other ports of the game I’m covering. I won’t do it for everything, because even I only have so much time, but for games that are quick to play through I’ll check out a few different versions.
The Apple II version is pretty much the same game, with two minor differences: it features a dedication “to all Moms” at the beginning; and its advertisement of The Count says that it will be LOVE AT FIRST BYTE, which is an even worse pun. Oh, and the game is in all caps, so it doesn’t have all those irritating upper case As everywhere. I’d be tempted to bump it up a point in Aesthetics just for that, but that would be frivolous.
You think any kids were disappointed that this wasn’t a sequel starring Smiling Count Cristo?
I also found an earlier TRS-80 version than the one I played above, although I couldn’t tell if it was early enough to be the Software Exchange version. It was pretty much identical to the Apple version, except that it retained the annoying As. Oh, and for some reason both the Apple and early TRS-80 version have an extraneous empty room that got cut from the later version.
There wasn’t a port released for the Commodore PET, surprisingly, but there was one for the VIC-20. I couldn’t get it to work, though, so I jumped all the way ahead to the Commodore 64 port from 1985 and got a big surprise.
She really loves those MOMS.
Apparently a whole bunch of the Scott Adams catalogue got converted to graphic adventures in the 1980s, and I’m only just finding out about it now. I was a C64 kid, how did this happen? Anyway, the gameplay and puzzles here remain the same, although the graphics replace some of the text in places. Some of the visuals change when you take certain actions (such as opening the coffin above), but there are other places where they remain annoyingly static. The raven in this version has lowered his standards, though: rather than advertising The Count he tells you that Questprobe featuring The Hulk is a SMASHING GOOD TIME. He’s lying. Still, this is a good adaptation. I’d mark it a point higher for Aesthetics, but without the split-window letting you always know what’s in the room I mark it a point down for Mechanics, so it comes out even.
Did I win? ‘Cos dude is still lying down.
NEXT: The next game on my list is Eamon, a text adventure RPG hybrid that also intended as a system for people to create their own games. It still has something of a fan community, I understand, and it all sounds pretty intriguing. I’ll post about it on Sunday. Because I have a schedule now!

If you're looking to have the best pizza without the stress, you must consider investing in one of these propane pizza ovens made from propane to use at home. We've come up with a collection of best-rated models that are suitable for your kitchen. Whether you are a pro chef or simply someone who likes to make pizza in the kitchen, these top propane pizza ovens will help bring your cooking to the highest level.
What Is a Propane Pizza Oven?
A propane pizza cooker is a kind of outdoor kitchen equipment used to cook pizzas and other meals. It's built like an oven with the main cooking space on one side, as in the traditional home kitchen oven. The difference is that this propane pizza oven is equipped with an internal heating unit that uses propane or natural gas rather than electricity. It can therefore be utilized at any time, night or day without worrying about power failures or when there is a storm in the area. In addition, since you are in control of the amount of heat in your cooking area (the dome), it is possible to cook your food perfectly every time!
How Do Propane Pizza Ovens Work?
As with other appliances powered by gas, propane pizza ovens function by burning propane (or natural gas, if you opt for natural gas) to create heat. The hot gases that result from the process travel through the combustion chamber, where it is heated and then releases the high temperatures to the cooking surface beneath it. The heating element is typically made of steel or cast iron due to its ability to hold heat and distribute it evenly. With propane pizza ovens, your cooking space (or dome) is heated with this flame source until it is at around 500 degrees Fahrenheit, or around 260 Celsius. It is then possible to utilize an internal mix of gas and air within the heating element to help to increase the temperature, even more, typically ranging from 600 to 700 degrees Fahrenheit or 315-315 Celsius. It is crucial to know that the propane pizza oven can be heated up faster than your standard kitchen oven. That alone makes a propane pizza maker worth the price of gold.
Pros and Cons of Using a Propane Pizza Oven
List of Pros: - You can prepare your favorite pizza at home without needing to leave the kitchen - it's simple and quick. - It won't take long before you can enjoy the best lunch or dinner you can ever have. - It utilizes a low temperature, which guarantees that the food is cooked thoroughly without burning or overcooking. - It is possible to cook a variety of food using its adjustable flame regulator to allow for effortless cooking control. It also provides a reliable heating source for cooking your food. - It has an attractive vinyl cover to make it easy for storage as well as to shield it from dirt and other agents from outside. List of Cons: - It's not cheap since you need a propane tank; however, they can be purchased in bulk, which is cheaper than purchasing just one at each time. - The product isn't waterproof; therefore, you have to be extra careful while cleaning your product. - It takes some time to get hot, about 20 minutes or less, depending on the type of food and thickness.
