The school was massive or at least that’s how it seemed to Cassia. Despite the beautiful architecture the building felt somewhat daunting as it cast a massive shadow over the street in front of it.
She hadn’t felt nervous at all until the moment she found herself before it’s brick walls and could see the swarms of students walking in. Cas’d been eager to start her classes but was noticeably less enthusiastic about the prospect of having to interact with other kids her age, she’d always preferred the company of adults.
Luckily her teacher seemed nice and reminded Cassia of Ms. Honey from Matilda. Ms. Davis quickly went around the room asking if anyone had any stories they wanted to share from over the summer. Most of the stories were pretty lackluster though there was one girl who talked about a bean sprout she’d grown using a soaked cotton ball and a plastic bag. Typically Cassia would’ve found it boring but this girl spoke as if her plant was the most incredible thing to have ever existed and it made her tale all the more fascinating.
Credit to the incredibly talented @catsaar for the school!

Ellie gave birth to three kittens- two boys and one girl. The second they were old enough to leave their mother Cassia dragged Roux and Penelope down the hall so that she could go pick out one of them.
“And I can have anyone I want?” Cassia asked excitedly as the kittens crawled all over her, curiously investigating their new visitor.
“As promised, you get first pick.” Brittni smiled.
She watched the kittens scuttle around her legs. It wasn’t long before the one of the in particular caught her eye. When he wasn’t pressing his hand against her palm to request being pet he was playing with his sister and trying to pounce on her tail.
“Have you made up you mind?” Tetsu asked her as Cassia picked up the dark grey kitten.
She nodded her head with an almost aggressive level of enthusiasm. “What’s his name?”
“Henry.”
Cassia pulled the kitten into a hug. “I bet Rusty’s gonna love him.”

Cassia’s eyebrows furrowed in concentration as she reached for her chosen chess piece.
“Hmm I wouldn’t do that...” Penelope mused as she watched her granddaughter.
Cassia quickly returned the piece to it’s original place with a frustrated sigh. After evaluating the board for a second before reaching for a different piece.
“How did you manage to find the one move that’d be even worse than the original one?”
Cassia threw her hands up in defeat, inciting an amused chuckle from her grandmother.

“C’mon, Grandma!” Cassia squealed excitedly, her boots kicking up rain droplets as she all but ran forward. It’d been ages since either of them had seen rain and they couldn’t let the first rain of the year go by without any celebration.
As soon as they got to an open area outside the apartment the two of them all but threw their umbrellas and proceeded to dash about the rain in an frenzy of giddy laughs and giggles.  Sure, the two of them received looks from the passerby  (most of which didn’t appreciate getting splashed) but they weren’t paid much heed by the pair.

“Was it absolutely necessary to buy them matching bee outfits?”
“Yes.”
“You do realize it won’t fit her much longer, right? And she already has a dress she never wears that...” Roux sighed and stopped mid-sentence. She knew better than to argue with Penelope when she’d made up her mind.
Rusty, on the other hand, began to regret his attachment to the human kitten. It did look pleased with his current predicament though... He begrudgingly accepted a head pat.

“You know I’m the child here, right?” Cassia asked
Penelope raised an eyebrow. “So?”
“Soooo you should probably let me win a round? You know, just to boost my developing self confidence....” Cassia said. She new her grandmother was unlikely to take the bait but hey, worth the shot, right?
“Nice try, kid.” Penelope snorted before taking another of her granddaughter’s chess pieces off the board.

“I don’t see anything, Grandma...” Cassia said after searching the skyline behind her, voice slightly disappointed. “Maybe it left already?” She said with a shrug as she turned back to her grandmother who was sitting in an unnaturally stiff manner.
“Wow that’s so weird I could’ve sworn I saw it five seconds ago oh well let’s continue shall we.” Penelope said, speaking so fast that all her words ended up clumping together to form a single mega-word. Cassia raised a suspicious eyebrow and continued playing.

“No way!” Cassia squealed, rushing to press her face against the clear edge of the cage. The sudden movement just about gave the tiny creature a heart attack, nearly bringing the whole gift to a swift end.
“So? What do you think?” Penelope asked, bending down to watch the newest addition to the household.
“I love him so much! Thank you, Grandma!”
“Well I can’t take all the credit.” Penelope said, with a quick smile back at her husband. “Though I do believe it was my idea.”
“The fact that your grandmother’s an absolute liar aside,” started Jole with a playful scowl at Penelope, “this is a big responsibility. You’re going to have to feed him and clean out his cage and take care of him... Do you think you can do that?”
Cassia nodded her head furiously without taking her eyes off the rodent. “What’s his name?” she asked, already planning her future with her new best friend.
“Well he’s yours now, which means you get to name him whatever you want.” Jole smiled.
“Anything at all?” Cassia asked, amazed by power she now held in her hands.
“Unless you pick a really bad name.” said Penelope. Cassia giggled, already accustomed to her dry humor.

After packing a quick picnic and calling Aiden to see if it was ok for them to take his kids after school (he jumped at the chance to have a peaceful afternoon), Penelope and Jole took their grandkids to Myshuno Meadows for the day to give Roux time to get work done.
Jole quickly got to preparing tofu dogs for the group and Penelope got out the books she’d brought for Cassia. Bryce and Brandie, however, wasted no time in finding the water guns Penelope had snuck in to the park. Since walking all the way to the bathrooms every time they needed a refill seemed like a hassle, the twins decided to instead shoot dirty pond water at each other.

“Rusty you’re going to be a dad!” Cassia spoke excitedly as she bent down pet him. “Are you excited? I hope Grandma lets me keep all of them!”
Rusty had no idea what the human was going on about or why it appeared to be so happy. All that he knew was that he enjoyed being pet behind the ears and so long as that was happening everything else didn’t really matter.
