Nell'aprile scorso, la giornalista inglese Elle Hunt (...) decise di riportare su Twitter (...) una questione emersa durante una conversazione spensierata e propose un sondaggio: se il film Alien potesse essere considerato un horror. Rispondendo a un utente, espose la sua concisa posizione  – «no, perché un horror non può essere ambientato nello Spazio» – e, dopo aver letto alcune obiezioni, mise da parte lo smartphone.

Il giorno dopo, Hunt (...) scoprì che il sondaggio aveva ricevuto 120 mila voti e che la sua opinione era stata citata da migliaia di persone, tra cui il regista Kevin Smith, che se la prendevano con lei (...). Molti le chiedevano di scusarsi (...). Quel sondaggio era finito tra gli argomenti “di tendenza” negli Stati Uniti e nel Regno Unito.

Negli ultimi anni, alcune riflessioni intorno ai social media hanno descritto (eventi come questo) – tipica di molte piattaforme social – come “collasso del contesto”, l’effetto prodotto dalla coesistenza di molteplici gruppi sociali in unico spazio. «Prendere pubblici diversi, con norme, principi e livelli di conoscenza diversi, e radunarli tutti in un unico spazio digitale per farli coesistere porta prevedibilmente a conflitti regolari e potrebbe, su scala nazionale, persino renderci più radicalizzati», ha scritto recentemente su The Verge il giornalista Casey Newton (...).

Il risultato (...) è che un individuo con un seguito moderatamente ampio, a prescindere dal contenuto delle sue affermazioni, venga frainteso da «persone apparentemente determinate a fraintenderlo». (...)

«I giorni in cui potrai dare un’immagine di te differente agli amici, ai colleghi di lavoro e alle altre persone che conosci finiranno probabilmente in breve tempo», disse il CEO e fondatore di Facebook Mark Zuckerberg nel 2010, descrivendo come una «mancanza di integrità» la scelta di avere più identità. Quanto capitato a Hunt è certamente non grave, se confrontato con casi di offese e molestie espresse sui social network e in grado di rovinare la vita delle persone. Ma è proprio il fatto che sia un caso abbastanza familiare e non eccezionale, a renderlo particolarmente significativo: «un perfetto esempio delle dinamiche dei nostri social media rotti, che sembrano sempre più progettati per disumanizzarci, polarizzarci e renderci tutti infelici».

(...) Sotto questo aspetto (resta da capire se) le frequenti espressioni di intransigenza e intolleranza presenti su Twitter siano da inquadrare come una manifestazione della cosiddetta cancel culture o come un esempio di «fallimento della piattaforma».

Esempio interessante (btw, anche del verginellismo nel pubblicare una opinione very silly, e del non attendersi i dovuti buuh, anche se davvero troppi nel suo caso).

I soloni del Post ovviamente non concludono col buon senso di dire: LA GENTE STA MALE. Preferiscono aziendalmente dar la colpa "al sistema" (tuitter) che non possono più "moderare" e alla gente "de destra" che "offende" (i Portatori di Verità).

Io invece affermo che il collasso del contesto è tipico di chi abbia già collassato il contesto accettando di credere a narrative sinistre. VEDI CANCEL CULTURE. Affermo cioè che i media sono di sinistra perché han bisogno di un pubblico di sinistra, altrimenti NON diventerebbero pervasivi e sostitutivi della vita nel mondo reale. Unicuique suum.

Donnie Darko will be released on 4K Ultra HD on April 27 via Arrow Video. Luke Preece designed the new cover art for the 2001 sci-fi psychological thriller; the original poster is on the reverse side.

The two-disc limited edition set include the theatrical and director's cuts, a 100-page book, a double-sided fold out poster with Preece's artwork, and six double-sided postcards, all housed inside a slipbox.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the cult classic is written and directed by Richard Kelly (The Box). Jake Gyllenhaal, Jena Malone, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Drew Barrymore, Mary McDonnell, Katharine Ross, Patrick Swayze, Noah Wyle and James Duval star.

Both cuts of the film have been newly restored in 4K from the original camera negatives, supervised by Kelly and cinematographer Steven Poster. It’s presented in Dolby Vision HDR with original DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 audio.

Bastava un niente e tutto veniva messo in discussione, ogni certezza veniva rivista, esattamente come accadeva con il fuoco, era necessaria una semplice scintilla perché diventasse un incendio. I due uomini, il capitano Casey assieme al tenente Severide, sembravano intenti ad osservare quell'appartamento situato nel bel mezzo di Manhattan. Un appartamento che aveva di certo visto momenti migliori, ma che ora mostrava le conseguenze della forza bruta delle fiamme. Le pareti scarlatte della camera da letto mostravano il colore della cenere, a terra non vi erano altro che libri bruciati, rendendo tutto irriconoscibile. Tornerà ai primi di settembre e fino ad allora abbiamo libero accesso all'appartamento.　» Severide fece un semplice cenno del capo a quelle parole prima di ritornare sui suoi passi e prendere in mano ciò che avanza di quei cavi elettrici tranciati di netto. Se prima non ci aveva dato peso, in quel momento qualcosa nella sua mente cominciò a vorticare, collegando e tessendo una soluzione che continuava a piacergli sempre meno. Ormai tutti i tasselli sembravano essere mille campanelli d'allarme, e l'incendio era senz'altro doloso.

Amityville: The Awakening’s long, strange journey to release will soon come to an end. Originally due out in January of 2015, the film was given (and missed) numerous release dates over the past two and a half years.

The film will debut exclusively for free on Google Play in the US and Canada from October 12 until November 8. It will also open in select theaters on October 28 via Dimension Films before arriving on Blu-ray, DVD, and VOD on November 14 via Lionsgate.

The Amityville Horror reboot is written and directed by Franck Khalfoun (Maniac). Jason Blum (Get Out, The Purge), Daniel Farrands (The Haunting in Connecticut), and Casey La Scala (Donnie Darko) produce.

Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight), Bella Thorne (The DUFF), Cameron Monaghan (Shameless), Thomas Mann (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl), Jennifer Morrison (Once Upon a Time), and Kurtwood Smith (RoboCop) star.

Let me tell you the story.

That particular evening I had to go to the theatre La Scala in Milan, so I brought the book with me to read during the bus trip (I was at the end of it so, you know, it was hard to put it down). On the way back I read that specific part at the end, and my brain stopped working. Like, I remember I had to reread the same sentences over and over again because I couldn't make myself understand the meaning of it (and back at the time - it must have been 2017 or 2018 - I still used to read in Italian, so there wasn't any "it's not my first language" excuses). And when I did understand, I passive-aggressively shut the book and spent the rest of the trip in a bus full of grannies staring at nothing (literally, because it was pitch-black night), and thinking "don't cry don't cry don't cry don't cry don't cry" for 40 minutes. The moment I set foot inside my house I started sobbing and my parents were like "you literally went to La Scala and all you think about is a book?"

WELL YES. I THINK ABOUT MY FAVORITE CHARACTER OF SAID BOOK BEING NOT-SO-FAVORITE ANYMORE.

But move on.

The Atlas Six. I loved it, don't get me wrong, but there was a lot of physics and philosophy and psychology and fancy words, and my brain just couldn't keep up. I understood half of the "world-building" simply because I was am too stupid for that shit.

60. a book that you think about at 3am

Usually, it's my most recent read. Right now it's Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. Even if that time of the night is usually the perfect time for me to think about my own personal WIPs, so I can have new ideas I know I can't write down and completely forget about them when I wake up. Nailed it so far.

74. your favorite love triangle

I HATE love triangles. Because 1) if it's well done, I'll forever feel bad for the losing part and 2) if it's badly done, then why using that trope at all? Why throwing in a random - and useless - "love interest" if it's obvious who's going to be chosen?
