Scotland Fix of the Day: Red deer are the iconic Monarchs of the Glen in Scotland but they are not always so very wild. Gamekeepers like Colin Murdoch (who is head gamekeeper at Reraig Forest estate near Loch Carron) manage their deer herds, including feeding the stags on the hills, keeping them fit for the breeding season. Deer management has meant that deer populations in Scotland have grown from about 100,000 sixty years ago to nearly 400,000 today. They are very controversial because deer nibbling off the young shoots of new trees impede reforestation in the Highlands. By the way, not all deer feeding in Scotland is such a hands-on affair; Colin also does a bit of agri-tourism and will take visitors (like me) up on the hill to see the deer up close. #scotland #deer #bestofscotland #hiddenscotland #thehighlandcollective #scotland_highlights #photosofbritain. #drivescotland #ig_scotland #visitscotland. #scotlandgreatshots #scotlandmagazine. #highlands #scottishhighlands #scotland_greatshots #scenicbritain #uk_greatshots #igersscotland #scotland_lover #lovescotland #unlimitedscotland #scotlandgreatshots #scotlandtrip #scotlandtravel #scotlandtrip #scotlandthebigpicture — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/3vmO6CS

Hello! I’ve scrolled through your blog to look for the answer to my question, but I can’t find it. It’s got to do with fanfiction, Game of Thrones specifically. I want Jon Snow to create a vassal house in the North. But I haven’t any idea how he’d do that/what it would be called. I’ve got him slotted to marry Alysane Mormont. Their House Words are “In Winter, We Stand.” Thank you, and sorry if this is a bother. I don’t know who else to ask.
Well to create any noble house in Westeros (and any real world kingdom), you must draw up letters of patent. These are documents that confer nobility on a person and acts as proof of titles, pensions and land. The King in the North will sign off on it and stamp it with his seal.
In the real world, there would be a ceremony where the lord would be draped in red velvet trimmed with fur, crowned with a coronet and would be asked to publicly swear fealty to the monarch. In ASOIAF/Game of Thrones, it seems that the letters patent are enough examples being Lord Philip Foote being awarded the lands and seat of House Carron and Emmon Frey being given Lordship of Riverrun. Emmon is actually quoted to be waving his letters about during the AFFC siege of Riverrun as proof of his legitimacy.
