Unveiling the Link: Alzheimer’s Disease and Oral Health Explained
Tumblr media
Alzheimer’s disease, a progressive neurodegenerative disorder, is a growing concern as populations age worldwide. While the exact cause of Alzheimer’s remains elusive, researchers are increasingly turning their attention to potential links between oral health and cognitive decline.
In this blog post, we’ll explore the emerging connection between Alzheimer’s disease and oral health and examine how maintaining good oral hygiene may play a role in preserving cognitive function.
Understanding the Connection
The idea of a connection between oral health and Alzheimer’s disease may seem surprising at first, but mounting evidence suggests that the health of your gums and teeth could influence your risk of developing cognitive impairment. Several proposed mechanisms shed light on the potential link between the two:
Inflammation: Chronic inflammation, a hallmark of gum disease, has been implicated as a contributing factor in Alzheimer’s disease. Inflammatory markers in the blood can cross the blood-brain barrier and contribute to the neuroinflammation characteristic of Alzheimer’s pathology.
Bacterial translocation: Gum disease-associated bacteria have the ability to enter the circulation, travel to the brain, and then potentially cause an immunological reaction as well as contribute to the development of pathologies linked with Alzheimer’s disease, such as the build-up of beta-amyloid plaques.
Systemic Health Effects: Poor oral health is associated with systemic conditions such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes, which are themselves risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease. By promoting overall health, maintaining good oral hygiene may indirectly reduce the risk of cognitive decline.
Exploring Research Findings
Several studies have provided intriguing insights into the potential relationship between oral health and Alzheimer’s disease. For example, a study published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease found that individuals with gum disease experienced a faster rate of cognitive decline compared to those with healthy gums.
Another study, published in the journal Science Advances, identified specific oral bacteria associated with Alzheimer’s disease pathology, further supporting the idea of a link between oral health and cognitive function.
Maintaining Oral Health for Brain Health
Given the emerging evidence suggesting a connection between oral health and Alzheimer’s disease, prioritizing good oral hygiene may be more important than ever. Here are some tips for maintaining oral health to support brain health:
Brush and Floss Regularly: Brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing daily can help remove plaque and bacteria from your teeth and gums, reducing the risk of gum disease.
Visit Your Dentist Regularly: Regular dental check-ups and cleanings are essential for detecting and treating gum disease early. Your dentist can also provide guidance on proper oral hygiene techniques and recommend treatments to address any oral health issues.
Eat a Brain-Healthy Diet: A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins can support both oral and cognitive health. Limiting sugary and processed foods can help prevent cavities and gum disease.
Stay Active: Regular physical activity has been linked to better cognitive function and may also help reduce the risk of gum disease.
Conclusion
While more research is needed to fully understand the connection between oral health and Alzheimer’s disease, the evidence suggests that maintaining good oral hygiene may play a role in preserving cognitive function as we age. By prioritizing oral health through regular brushing and flossing, routine dental check-ups, and a healthy lifestyle, we can support both our smiles and our brains for years to come.

X-ray Market  to Register a Stout Growth by End 2027
X-ray Market: Introduction
According to the report, the global X-ray market was valued at ~US$ 10.8 Bn in 2018 and is projected to expand at a CAGR of 5.5% from 2019 to 2027. Different types of X-ray devices are available in the market such as stationary/fixed and portable. These diagnostic X-ray devices can be used for various applications, including cardiovascular, respiratory, dental, and mammography. Rise in prevalence of chronic diseases across the world and rapidly aging global population with augmented healthcare needs boost market growth. North America dominated the global X-ray market in 2018 and the trend is anticipated to continue during the forecast period. High awareness about medical imaging devices, financial capability to purchase expensive machines, rise in demand for technologically advanced & innovative products in hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, and outpatient ambulatory surgery centers; and high infrastructure investment supporting healthcare facilities boost the growth of the market in the region. Asia Pacific is likely to be a highly lucrative market for X-ray during the forecast period.

Increase in Aging Population with High Healthcare Needs and Commercialization of Technologically Advanced X-ray Systems to Drive Market
Most developed countries have a high geriatric population. It has also been estimated that around 82% of the people who succumb to a coronary artery disease are aged 65 years and above. According to WHO estimates, the geriatric population would increase at a rapid pace in developed countries such as the U.S., the U.K., and Japan. Access to various diagnostic and treatment services has improved due to favorable health care policies and advancements in healthcare facilities in countries such as the U.S., Japan, the U.K. and other countries in Western Europe. This in turn has increased life expectancy of the population. Brazil, China, Thailand, and South Korea are expected to have a large geriatric population in the shortest span of time. Aged individuals are more prone to diseases and disorders; hence, have high healthcare requirements. Aged individuals would increase the patient pool in these countries, which in turn is likely to boost the growth of the X-ray market in Asia Pacific in the next few years.
Recent introduction of advanced, highly portable digital X-ray systems have resulted in an increased demand globally. Moreover, demand for bedside imaging and diagnostics, home healthcare, and minimally invasive solutions is rising across the globe. New X-ray technology produces striking 3D images in full color. Various new and technologically advanced X-ray systems have been introduced by major manufacturers operating in this market.

Stationary/Fixed Products to Dominate Market
Based on product type, the global X-ray market has been bifurcated into stationary/fixed and portable. The portable segment has been split into mobile and handheld. The stationary/fixed segment dominated the global X-ray market in 2018. However, the portable segment is expected to expand at the highest CAGR from 2019 to 2027. Advent of wireless and low-power consuming portable X-ray technologies, which are leading to innovation and development of advanced portable X-ray, fuels the growth of the global market. In February 2015, GE Measurement and Control launched portable ERESCO 300 MF4-R X-ray tube, which helps in geometric magnification and inspection time reduction in film-based and digital radiography.
Digital to be Promising Technology
In terms of technology, the global X-ray market has been classified into analog and digital. The digital segment has been segregated into computed radiography and direct digital radiography. The digital segment is expected to expand at the highest CAGR during the forecast period. Sensors integrated in digital X-ray systems, especially in systems with direct digital radiology technology, help the system to capture images at a rapid rate of 60 images per hour. Better image quality in less time is a major factor driving the digital X-ray segment.

Mammography to be Key Application
Based on application, the global X-ray market has been segmented into cardiovascular, respiratory, dental, mammography, and others. The mammography segment is expected to expand at the highest CAGR during the forecast period. According to the World Cancer Research Fund International, there were over 2 million new cases of cancer in 2018. The introduction of new and technologically advanced X-ray systems, rise in awareness about the disease & its diagnosis, and affordability of people fuel the growth of the global market.
Hospitals & Clinics End User to Account for Major Share
In terms of end user, the global X-ray market has been categorized into hospitals & clinics, diagnostic centers, ambulatory surgical centers, and research centers. The hospitals & clinics segment dominated the global X-ray market in terms of revenue in 2018 and the trend is projected to continue during the forecast period. The growth of the segment can be attributed to the rise in the rate of hospitalization and a range of services offered by hospitals at a single site.
North America to Dominate Global Market
The global X-ray market has been segmented into five major regions: North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Middle East & Africa. North America dominated the global X-ray market in 2018, followed by Europe. North America accounted for major share of the global X-ray market in 2018. Rise in adoption of disease detection radiology imaging products and increase in number of clinical trials for the development of these products for different disorders boost the growth of the market in the region. The X-ray market in Asia Pacific is anticipated to expand at a higher CAGR from 2019 to 2027 primarily due to rise in prevalence of chronic disorders and increase in awareness about disease diagnosis for proper treatment in the region.
Competition Landscape
Siemens Healthcare, Koninklijke Philips N.V., GE Healthcare, and Shimadzu Corporation are the leading players in the global X-ray market and hold majority share. The global X-ray market is fragmented in terms of number of players. Key players in the global market include Agfa-Gevaert N.V., Canon Medical Systems Corporation, Carestream Health, FUJIFILM Holdings Corporation, GE Healthcare, Konica Minolta Medical Imaging, Koninklijke Philips N.V., PerkinElmer, Inc., Shimadzu Corporation, Siemens Healthcare, and Varian Medical Systems.

Tell me Alona, what was your experience with the implants?
I really like the experience, I would recommend it to my friends or anyone that I know that needs implants, and that they don’t want to spend that much money on America.
Did you like Cancun?
Oh yeah! It is beautiful. We went on a boat tour yesterday; it was like only $40 dollars and we went to two different islands. We got food there, free drinks we even got a bicycle ride and saw iguanas in the island. It was really cool.
What is the difference with the cost of dental implants in Cancun and the price in USA?
I just got my bracers off and they told it was going to be like $10,000 dollars. I’m only 18 and my parents can’t pay that much it is a LOT CHEAPER.
How did you learned about us?
I was doing some research because after they told me $10,000 dollars I said “That’s going to take years!”. I did the research and people were recommending this place and I saw some testimonial videos.
What do you feel about the staff?
Oh yeah, very friendly staff, making you feel like you are at home.
Alona got dental implants in only 2 days and will come back later for rehabilitation. This means she got a lot of free time to enjoy the beach on her vacation. This is the best way to save on your oral health and have a wonderful time in a Caribbean paradise!
Happy Patient found affordable dental implants in Cancun!
Last month we had the visit of one of our dear patients to get his dental implant rehabilitated. Hershel from Texas was ready to get his new dental crown and complete his smile again. He had come to us months ago looking for cheap dental implants in Cancun as was happy with our services. We placed the dental implant and gave him instructions to come back later for the last part of his implant treatment. Hershel is pictured above with our Mexican dentist, Doctor Alejandra Lujan, and he would also like to thank Doctor Cesar Ibañez for all his help.
Individual dental implants can be placed in any area that has a missing tooth. The size can be wide, regular or narrow, depending on the tooth that is going to be replaced. The treatment is very simple and fast and only requires a minor invasive surgery where the doctor will open the gum and screw the implant into the bone, after it’s placed, the healing cap and gum will be sutured. This is not a painful procedure as it’s done with local anesthesia and it takes approximately one hour, also we offer sedation done by an anesthesiologist when needed. After inserting the implant, there will be a healing time to let the dental implant be Osseointegrated.
Osseointegration means that the bone will have grown and healed, binding itself to the structure of the titanium implant. The dental implants have a porous surface that will help bone cells to take hold. Titanium is used on these dental implants because of its high compatibility rate, unlike other metals that can oxidize and release elements into the body that will provoke a rejection from the immune system.  Titanium implants have a very low rejection rate as long as the patient follows the hygiene directions established by the doctor.
Another Dental Implants happy patient review!
We would love to thank our dear patient Thomas for his preference. Thomas came from California with his beautiful wife Robin for an amazing dental vacation in Cancun. He decided to get a couple of titanium dental implants to help him eat better. He’s pictured above with our head dentist, Doctor German Arzate.
Dental implants can be used to restore looks on your smile and also restore functionality to that part of your mouth. 178 million people in the USA only are missing at least one tooth. They could have lost them for trauma, gum disease or cavities. Your missing teeth could be affecting the way you eat provoking nutritional changes, obesity, diabetes, coronary artery disease, teeth shifting and bone loss. When you get a new implant, that device will stimulate your surrounding bone, preventing further bone loss in that area.
Thomas and his wife had made research back home looking for dental implant options with their dentists only to find out that they would be charged at least $2500 only for the implant not including abutment and crown! Our dental implants are cheaper than that but in no way the quality is compromised. We use Grade 5 titanium implants approved by the FDA, the same implants they would use on United States and Canada. Our facilities are top notch and our staff is always there to help you on every step of the way, including follow up. You are important to us and our priority is your well being. Come to sunny Cancun during your vacations and you will completely fall in love with our Caribbean beaches!
Thomas will be back in a few months for the rehabilitation of the implant with its crown. He left us a little message to share with you:
Great service at a great price! We will tell all our friends! Thank you so much for placing your trust on us Thomas! We will see you later! “Thank you for being so professional” – Happy Patient with Dental Implants in Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry
Amy had originally come for dental crowns before  and now she is here back again to get affordable dental implants in Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry. Amy told us that her previous experiences with other dentists were disappointing. They didn’t have the same level of care for the patient and the jobs weren’t that good. Here in Cancun, the experience was delightful, something completely different.
She says Cancun is a special kind of beautiful, and while she was here for her dental implant and crowns, she took the opportunity to go out shopping. Luckily for her, we are situated in the middle of one of the most popular shopping malls in Cancun. Plaza Las Americas also has a large cinema for entertainment… and if you brought your children along for vacation you would like to know there’s also an indoor trampoline park on the top floor!
Amy told us she feels the clinic is great… it is modern, clean and professionally designed. Our facilities are equipped with  the most advanced technology as well as having 6 private dental units with big windows to the the shopping mall courtyard. We are decorated elegantly with sculptures made by Doctor German Arzate.

Ask us anything about cosmetic dentistry in Cancun!
We are back answering some of your questions about cosmetic dentistry in Cancun! These were the ones we felt were worth sharing in the blog.
How safe are dental x-rays?
This is a surprising question we would like to address here. As many people already know, we get exposed to all kinds of radiation on our everyday life. We get radiation all day from the sun, the ground and even some electronic appliances. The technology we use in dentistry has advanced to such an extent that we can take digital x-rays which require much less radiation than a regular x-ray plaque. This minimizes risks as much as possible.  In Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry have a digital panoramic x-ray machine at our clinic, as well as a hand-held x-ray, which are pretty safe. We will always look after your safety, so if you request it you can have a cover for your shoulders. And obviously, let us know if you are pregnant beforehand.
What diseases make me more susceptible to dental complications?
Perhaps the most common disease that can lead to complications are gingivitis and its more serious version, periodontitis. These are very common among adults. They are gum diseases that can end up making you lose your teeth and attack the bone of your maxilla. This usually happens because the plaque that builds up on your gums and the crevices between your teeth become a perfect environment for the reproduction of bacteria. This bacteria can be also be responsible for cavities and further tooth loss.
What medications can damage my teeth and gums?
There are some medications that can result on some type of decay for your teeth. For example, you shouldn’t chew aspirins as they are acidic. Syrups for coughs can also be a problem for their high content of sugars. Chemo medication could also lead to dry mouth and gum problems; in fact, if you are diagnosed with cancer, you should go to your dentist right away for a checkup and cleaning, to minimize any future complications. In any case, you should follow your doctor’s orders to take the chemo and worry about the rest later. We have had cancer survivors come to our clinic to restore their smiles. A tooth’s look can be fixed with cosmetic dentistry, and we want you smiling for years to come.
Dental Implants or Dental Bridge? What’s best?
There are many patients that ask, should I get a three unit bridge if I had a tooth that was extracted on an anterior area or do I get dental implants? What’s the pros and cons of doing that? Well, if you do a three unit bridge you would need to grind down the contiguous teeth. And then afterwards, you will need to do a dental bridge. Performing dental bridges, even if they are of Zirconium, the problem is that you might get food under it being stuck and the other problem is that there is no going back. You would have shaved down those two teeth but at the end you will have a beautiful three unit teeth restoration.
The good thing is that dentistry technology has advanced for the last two decades, providing the best solution for this type of dental problem. What’s the difference between using dental implants and a dental bridge? Well, instead of shaving off the two other teeth to make the base that will support the bridge, we will place a dental implant screw in the missing tooth’s socket. Sometimes this requires a little bone graft. This way the other teeth are not affected. The only thing you might need to take into account is the fact that dental implants require a time for the bone to bond with it, anchoring and keeping it in place. At the end you will have an abutment and a crown.  If your dentist back home you need to grind down those teeth for a unit bridge, contact us to see if you are candidate for dental implants instead.

Doctor German Arzate has assisted him through all the process too, providing our staff and the most advanced technology on dental implants, like handheld digital x-ray machines and state of the art facilities. We would also like to thank Neodent for participating in this amazing event with their varied range of dental implants. We look forward on working again with you!
Doctor John Minichetti was the past president of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and is the current director of the Dental Implant Learning Center. Doctor German Arzate has traveled overseas to USA and Europe to get advanced training and certifications, accumulating almost 20 years of experience with dental implants.
There was limited availability for the course so it was already sold out since last December. As a side note, we are actually wondering how the doctors will spend their free time after the course.  By looking at their official website we know the course included lodging on a beach front all inclusive resort so we certainly hope they have the chance of enjoying the beach and relax like the rest of our patients when this is done.

The 5 most common misconceptions about dental implants
When people come to Cancun for Dental Implants or to any other dental clinic in general, there are some times when the patients have a wrong idea about what dental implants are and how they function. Is very important for both the patient and the doctor to make sure the patient understands clearly the steps procedure and details about care. For that reason we have gathered here the 5 most common misconceptions about dental implants:
1.    Dental Implants require less care than real teeth. This one is very common. Some people believe that because these are not ‘real teeth’ and are artificial, they do not require any more cleaning and protection. This is wrong. Titanium implants can still be subject to degradation if the plaque build up is not taken cared off with good oral hygiene.
2.    Dental implants are made of real teeth: Some people think implants can be made from real teeth because they don’t want metal on their gums. So far, there are only 2 main materials used for dental implants: titanium and zirconia. These are the most biocompatible materials so far that can bond with the bone and other human tissue without problems.
3.    Anyone can get dental implants. Dental implant technology has advanced a lot and many more people can enjoy restoring their life with new teeth… but sometimes patients don’t have enough bone or the bone is too fragile/brittle. This is the reason why our doctors always need to make a clinical evaluation as well of taking panoramic x-rays to make sure you are a candidate for dental implants.
4.    Dental Implants are similar to root canals. Some people get confused with implants and root canals because of the “posts” used in root canals. These are two very different procedures. The root canal’s main goal is to save the tooth for as long as possible, but when that is not possible anymore and the tooth falls or needs to be extracted the dental implant usually becomes the best option to replace it.
5.    The crowns of dental implants are permanent. While dental implants are meant to last, the crowns and the abutment conector to the implant might need to get replaced. Just like regular porcelain crowns, these can get loose or crack under pressure so the patient might need to get new ones years later.
