1920's Val'ty Jez'rathki (AU)
Had a silly idea only for fun.
"Val'ty became a member of a Githyanki Cangaceiro group in Brazil. They were becoming well known for crimes and conflicts against the police. The military set a bounty on their heads, especially on her Sarth and Kith'rak."
I mixed a bit of the Githyanki armor with cangaço aesthetics.

O CANGACEIRO DO FUTURO (2023)
Continuing the SERTÃO FUTURISTA (2023) series, in this collage I used a scene from the movie O CANGACEIRO (1970) as the main image, mixing it with elements from the Star Wars universe, such as the empire's ships, robots and the classic Death Star in all its glory.

You've heard it of cowboys, You've heard it of pirates, Now lemme present you something more that is just as interesting: Cangaceiros
Tumblr media
These fancy fellas were bands of people who turned into nomad bandits in the late 19th-early 20th century northeastern Brazil, where living in general was really hard, and to this day have gathered a mixed bag of opinions due to their "social banditry" A big number of them were ingenious people who joined either because of personal vengence (armed disputes between families were really common), looking for better living or because the lifestyle appealed to them. A little excerpt of them in wikipedia says: "The bandits often behaved well to the poorer sections of society performing acts of charity, buying goods for higher than usual prices from small shopkeepers and giving free parties ("bailes"). In contrast, the wealthy were robbed, targeted for forced monetary contributions (extortion) and were often kidnapped and held to ransom. The cangaceiro bands were sheltered by helpers within the population, who also provided information which helped them escape from police forces, known as volantes, sent by the government to destroy them. The poorer inhabitants of the backlands of the Brazilian Northeast were generally badly treated by the paramilitary police, and often preferred the presence of cangaceiro bands in their settlements.[1]" As any outlaw group, they weren't 100% good tho. There's several stories of families who were terrorized by them and the most famous cangaceiro of history, Lampião ("Oil lamp"  because he could fire a lever-action rifle so quickly that it looked like he was holding a lamp) have tales that when he died, both heaven and hell denied his entry into afterlife. I just really love the concepts of historic outlaws in general and i think everyone agress on that, so really wanted to offer this new "genre" for you guys!

Explanation/essay about Zé Jandaia (Zé Carioca's cousin from Ceará) and some explanations after the cut.
check out the other parts about the other cousins!
Okay, story time!
Why the hell does Zé Jandaia dress like that? Why does he look like he's going to kill anyone at any time? Come with me!
What are these clothes anyway?
They are cangaceiro clothes! Who are the cangaceiros?
Tumblr media
"The Cangaço represented a social movement that took place in the northeast of the country in the 19th and 20th centuries, where the cangaceiros, groups of armed nomads who lived in bands, showed dissatisfaction with the precarious conditions in which most of the northeastern population found themselves, since power was concentrated in the hands of the farmers."
Defending the author, Cangaço can be seen as banditry and crime, or just a revolt against the oppression suffered at the time.
Tumblr media
Lampião
"Without amazement, using violence, armed with shotguns, knives and daggers, the bandits went out in groups in different places in the northeast of the country, looting farms, kidnapping and killing farmers, imposing respect wherever they went."
Why these clothes? Everything has an explanation!
"The cangaceiros had their own style: they used leather clothes, including hats, in order to protect themselves, both from the coarse vegetation of the caatinga and from police attacks, since they were constantly persecuted. And that was how the cangaceiro movement surpassed a decade, demonstrating its strength, determination and dedication."
Tumblr media
Most famous cangaceiros:
Lampião, or Virgulino Ferreira da Silva And his wife Maria Bonita, or Maria Gomes de Oliveira (First woman to enter the cangaço. )
As for his personality is based on the concept of "Cabra Macho". What is it anyway?
"A man of the household, harsh, of few words and with an immense thirst for justice."
"Everything is solved with the bullet or the tip of the fishmonger. Men who deviate from these two solutions are called "fresh" (homophobia?!) and are considered the shame of the family. As for women, unlike in other regions of the country, in Northeast is stereotyped as “male woman”.
If you want to know a little more, I recommend watching the movie "O Auto da Compadecida" (A dog's Will) from 2000. It's a very fun and fast Brazilian comedy (curiosity, it was recorded in my state and I was able to visit the city where the filming took place!)
