Across the Prairies

Stopped in Moose Jaw SK early afternoon so we could enjoy a soak at the Temple Gardens Mineral Pool. Often heard of these and folks going for a spa weekend in Moose Jaw. Moose Jaw? Really? Seems deep below the city is an ancient sea bed with geothermal mineral rich water. The water is 39C and rich in magnesium sulfate and sodium sulfate. Lovely, relaxing.

Short drive to Medicine Hat where we stayed in their great municipal campground. Nice view over a coulee where we enjoyed a typical prairie sunset.

Just a short drive from the Hat to Lethbridge where we stayed for 4 days. Old friends live in Lethbridge so we had a nice visit with them. Also explored the Nikki Yuko Japanese Garden. The long stay also gave us a chance to clean the car, do laundry etc.

Last visit to Lethbridge (2015) the forest fire smoke was so thick we could barely see the trestle bridge. Air was clear this visit.

Took a day to see Waterton National Park. It had been years since either of us had been. Love the simplicity of this park, not busy & touristy like Banff. In 2017 38% of the park was ravaged by wildfire. It is still, naturally, recovering. Since the lack of forest canopy the wildflowers were amazing; so many types and colours.
