A Ramble about Phase 19 of the Fifteen Manga Ft. Storm Bringer spoilers
Just absolutely cannot get over the 15 manga. I love the light novel so much, but this manga adaptation is so ridiculously amazing. Dazai and Chuuya’s proximity/touching has been amazing of course. I adore the way Hoshikawa draws Dazai and Chuuya as well (my baby boys, especially Chuuya). But these last two chapters with Rimbaud and Verlaine. Like, fuck. The whole “At least, one of them felt that way,” part just hits so much harder in the manga for me, with the art and page placement. And this whole most recent chapter. Like firstly, you don’t have to end every chapter with like Chuuya getting stabbed okay, help me out here.
Comparing the last page of phase 18 with Verlaine and the first page of phase 19 with Chuuya makes it so obvious that Rimbaud is seeing the similarities between them with just that parallel, which is confirmed later with Rimbaud quite literally seeing Verlaine standing behind Chuuya.
Not to mention in phase 18 the “That’s right Paul, I remember you,” in conjunction with him seeing Verlaine in Chuuya.
Then that flashback with Verlaine carrying Chuuya and Chuuya’s just so small I could cry.
Like, I knew he was small, but he's just so young, I can't. People were experimenting on him. Like, how??
The way Rimbaud wants to ask Chuuya something and Chuuya crouches down to him. Which leads to Rimbaud putting a hand around Chuuya as he tells him to live. How close and personal they are when Rimbaud says all of this just make it feel so much more impactful for Chuuya. Kinda love too that Chuuya isn't just standing over Rimbaud. He's making it obvious he's open to listening.
Rimbaud says a lot of shitty things to Chuuya up to this point, even complaining that he has to kill a kid while only referring to Dazai, completely not acknowledging Chuuya as anything more than Arahabaki. But once he fully remembers what happened with Verlaine, I feel like that’s when Rimbaud remembers what he truly believed about Verlaine and his humanity and how that extends to Chuuya’s humanity. Because Rimbaud’s whole final speech is most definitely things he’d also thought of or told Verlaine before (as I think is confirmed in SB). I think those are Rimbaud’s true thoughts and beliefs on the matter, it just took that long for him to remember the full story and how he felt about it all. Rimbaud saw Verlaine’s struggles with humanity, and now he also remembers why Verlaine betrayed him. And so he tells Chuuya to live, just as Verlaine wanted him to back then, live without the burden of worrying about your humanity or where you came from, because “you are you.” It doesn’t matter if Chuuya (and Verlaine) “are but a pattern etched on the surface of raw power.” In Rimbaud’s mind, and honestly where we eventually end up at the end of SB, is that it really doesn’t matter what your origins are, whether someone is an artificial personality (aka pattern) etched onto raw power, because really everything is some version of a pattern upon the world. And in a word with abilities, a lot of people are a pattern connected to a power. Just as in SB Chuuya decides that even though Adam isn’t human and he knows it, it doesn’t take away from Adam’s actions, his sacrifices, or his dreams. Same goes for Chuuya and Verlaine. Their origins don't affect how human they truly are. Their humanity is significant no matter what. It just took a bit more convincing for Chuuya to get there, a little more than what Rimbaud could offer on his (almost) deathbed.
Anyway, Chuuya holding Rimbaud’s hand as he dies just does things to me. Like, the book described that “Both Chuuya and Dazai quietly listened as if there was something in what Randou (Rimbaud) was saying that they couldn’t allow themselves to miss… Some things, however, would not return to normal: the body of a man who no longer felt the cold, and the hearts of two boys who stood rooted to the spot, staring at him. A gust of wind peered through their souls as it passed them by.”
This page just so well depicts that last line. It truly feels these boys have heard something so monumental, that they won’t ever forget. Standing in the aftermath of their first fight together, hearing these words about humanity that both mean so much to both of them. Dazai’s expressions really convey this to me in the manga, and convey it just so beautifully. And Chuuya being so close to Rimbaud when he speak those words just makes it feel like those words truly are so monumental for him. And also this means that Chuuya fought to kill a man, that to be entirely fair and clear was trying to kill him first, and then held to his hand as he dies, and there’s just something about this added detail that’s so significant to me in portraying the weight of it on Chuuya. Chuuya's connection to Rimbaud is a complicated but important one. But really these words are important for both boys, because let’s not forget that Dazai also struggles with his humanity. Even if he doesn’t have a physical reason to doubt his humanity, like Chuuya, there are many other reasons that he does doubt it. So hearing that all people and all of humanity are really just patterns within the physical world, human or not that’s true of everyone and everything, and that’s important for Dazai to hear too. I think both boys think back to Rimbaud’s final speech quite a bit, if I’m being honest or did for a while.
I am NOT getting over the detail that someone (Chuuya??) put Rimbaud’s scarf on his grave. I just… it does something to me and I love that detail so much. And cutting back to that “You are you” line while Chuuya’s talking to the grave is just so perfect in my opinion, and again just shows the significance of it so, so well. It’s like, he's talking to Rimbaud, complaining about his actions really, and then it cuts to that “you are you” and it just shows almost the contrast I guess between Chuuya feeling unrest at not finding stuff about his past that Rimbaud could’ve given him, but maybe wouldn’t have anyway, and Rimbaud’s statement that those things don’t matter because Chuuya is who he is beyond all that. Also the little dandelion blowing into the wind, to me also signifying a wish being spread.
Anyway, entirely unnecessary to end the chapter with a big knife in Chuuya’s back, thanks. Especially after Chuuya mentions how he’s still exhausted from everything. Like let’s just, stop, please.
He's just a boy, leave him alone for the sake of all things good.

Chapter 105.5 Thoughts: Control, Manipulation and Partnership
Or, how Chuuya is actually the most qualified character to land a victory over Dostoevsky.
I just want to preface this with: I think Chuuya has woken from the brainwashing. We can't see his eyes, he's holding his hat again, and look at the progression of his face and expression from the last few chapters with him (these are in order btw from left to right).
I'm not completely sure how he did this, but I chalk a lot of it up to sheer stubborn determination on Chuuya's part, mostly because it's funny and he was clearly fighting back before Dazai's speech. However, I find it likely the speech did contain some kind of code - others have pointed out how "Goodbye!" might be a reference to the original author's last unfinished book and we know skk's codenames for things generally are based off their real counterparts' works so, maybe he'd already broken out of it, maybe there was something in there that gave him the final push - who knows at this point honestly? Either way, it means Chuuya had the capacity to break out of the vampire curse on his own and that's incredibly funny to me for many reasons but mostly:
Fyodor: "Bold of you to assume Chuuya's ability can't overcome flooding."
Dazai: "Bold of you to assume Chuuya's personality can't overcome brainwashing."
But really, this highlights something interesting here, both in what Chuuya's role is ultimately intended to be in this arc, and in the way Fyodor and Dazai manipulate and value others in very different ways.
I've said it before but it bears repeating: we already know that Fyodor is an excellent long-term planner, while Dazai is effectively able to counter him because Dazai shifts into thinking like his opponent. They're foil characters for a reason; they're both highly intelligent, manipulative, and willing to play the long game for the sake of winning against their opponent.
Thing is, I also stand by the idea that personality-wise, they're not similar at all - and that has serious implications for the people they are connected with. The build-up to the prison escape arc really highlights this. Some examples:
Chapter 46: Fyodor believes that all people are sinful and foolish and that his goal is to remove sin. Dazai believes that all people are sinful and foolish but asks what's so wrong with that.
Chapter 64: They decide to have a "super-happy chit-chat" about their problems. Dazai's solution to Fyodor's issue with his lazy subordinates is to get them to think lazing around is a bad thing so they will put in effort of their own. Fyodor's solution to Dazai being unable to woo the waitress is to isolate her from her job, house and family so that she can only rely on Dazai.
Chapter 77: Fyodor believes god is perfection and harmony, and thus that the people capable of change are the superior ones with most control. Dazai believes god is the accidental and illogical and believes it is the ordinary people who fight and live in that uncertainty who create the greatest change.
So, what's happening here? Fyodor's manipulation is shown to be very exacting and direct. He leaves no room for error and regards people on a hierarchy - God above all, himself as a servant of God's will, and the sinful and foolish humans he has little regard for. Dazai's manipulation involves manipulation of the situation, and is often indirect. It involves people coming to the conclusion he intends for them to on their own. And from his later dialogue with Sigma, we see he doesn't regard the world in that same kind of hierarchy.
Now, look at the way Fyodor picks an item and Dazai picks a person when starting the game. Look at the way Fyodor refers to Chuuya respectfully but brainwashes him entirely and mocks Dazai for not being worthy of "using" his ability. Look at the way Dazai is a complete ass to Chuuya but ultimately lets him make his own choices (begging people to take note of that moment in Stormbringer where Dazai cuts himself off to correct his referring to Corruption as Arahabaki's true power to Chuuya's true power).
So, the actual strength Dazai has over Dostoevsky then, is not really his strength at all, it's the strength of others and their choice and willpower to act in the way they believe is best. It's the only means of getting a leg up on Dostoevsky, otherwise they will continue to go around and around in circles forever.
And Chuuya is the best candidate for finally throwing Fyodor off his game.
Firstly, let's just establish something: no matter how mad he is at Dazai, he's not going to side with Fyodor, not willingly. Fyodor threatened the Mafia in the Cannibalism arc by attacking Mori, first of all. I doubt he's forgiven him for that. Secondly, Fyodor embodies everything Chuuya can't stand about Dazai, at the very least, younger Dazai - the manipulation, the lack of consideration and connection with others, the callousness and lack of regard for life.
Well, perhaps he's not quite as irritating. +1 point for Dostoevsky I guess?
But lastly, it is more advantageous for Chuuya at this point to help fight against Fyodor, especially since most of the Mafia has been vampirized by his organization. Helping the Agency stop the terrorist plot will help the Mafia by extension by undoing that. And we know from Stormbringer that no matter how much Chuuya is personally hurt, he considers taking out the threat to his people a higher priority. Always.
(You could make the argument that he was told whatever Teruko told Atsushi and decided to join, but not only do I find this wildly out of character, but if that was the case then there would've been no reason to brainwash him.)
That said, I don't think this was preemptive "Dazai's master plan #3057", and in fact, I stand by the idea that Dazai had no idea Chuuya was going to be in the prison. It is very, very important to me that for the rest of this arc, no matter what Chuuya does, that his actions are his own. Not Fyodor's, not Dazai's, but his. And not just because I hate that he's being controlled right now and that freedom of choice has always been important for Chuuya.
But because it makes narrative sense.
The vampires are a bit silly, yes, but they represent the way Fyodor and Fukuchi think - humanity will commit atrocities. They cannot be trusted to make their own decisions. They want to make a world that is free by... mind-controlling people so their plans work without a hitch. In short, they choose, on behalf of others, to sacrifice human autonomy for peace. So, if we are going to turn this arc around, we need to have characters breaking out of that control and thinking for themselves, in spite of the uncertainty of the outcome.
We already see this with Atsushi in the last chapter! He finally takes initiative and makes that choice to leave the room when he doesn't exactly know what the right thing to do is. And this is also why I don't think Teruko is wholly convinced by the DoA either - she lets him go. She gives him the freedom to choose what he does with that information.
Another one of the focus characters here is Sigma. Sigma is a guy who has no past, whose humanity is questioned, who keeps being used by organizations for his valuable ability, who has no home but desperately wants one... oh wait. Remind you of anyone's younger self? This could go one of two ways: Chuuya fails to assert his autonomy, leaving Sigma to learn from that failure, or, Chuuya succeeds in asserting his autonomy, leaving Sigma to learn from his success.
I think it, by necessity, has to be the latter. Sigma's at a tipping point right now, and I think seeing someone try to assert their freedom only to fail would damage him greatly. And I think it's a waste of Chuuya's character honestly.
Chuuya needs to assert his autonomy in this arc. Not just for thematic reasons but because I can think of no one else who can effectively break the "super-genius stalemate".
I keep hearing "Dazai knows Chuuya" in response to Fyodor calling their bond shallow, and that is absolutely true! But Chuuya also knows Dazai. Incredibly well. Odasaku knew Dazai's soul, but Chuuya knows Dazai's mind, knows his strategies and ways of thinking without even needing words. What's more, Chuuya has thrown off Dazai before and done what he didn't expect him to.
Which is nifty, because Dazai and Fyodor think a lot alike. Chuuya is in a unique position to thwart Dostoevsky because he may actually be able to predict him to a degree. Chuuya can absolutely land a victory against him, and it's excellent because it would be completely unexpected to Fyodor, who apparently thinks Chuuya's strength lies only in what his ability has to offer and not much else.
But listen. This also can't be skk's plan. I need Chuuya to sideline both of them. Both for the sweet, sweet catharsis of putting those two idiot geniuses in their places and also because I need Dazai to have screwed up. He wasn't wrong about people making their own choices in uncertainty. People need to assert their autonomy to create change. Dazai can't be wrong in this regard.
But with going ahead with the trap to drown Fyodor despite also having to drown Chuuya when he promised not to let him get killed... this needs to have been a mistake, otherwise the value of Dazai's emotional speech to him is diminished.
I want Dazai to try to laugh it off. I want him to say he always knew Chuuya would escape and then for Chuuya to deck him because "no, the fuck you didn't".
I really think Dazai hoped Chuuya would make it. Do remember that Chuuya was one of the first reasons young Dazai decided to try giving life a chance. The fact that he flashbacked to all his key memories with Chuuya says a lot. But his survival was no guarantee and it seemed very unlikely.
So, Chuuya is faced with the fact that Dazai nearly sacrificed him to kill Dostoevsky and save his new Agency friends.
And I hope he finally gets mad. I hope he finally expresses hurt on his own behalf for once. I hope they are forced to break their status quo that they have carefully maintained by not talking about anything ever. I hope they are pushed to uncomfortable places and that it is Chuuya who finally spurs this development.
Let Chuuya break the stalemate between Dazai and Dostoevsky. Let him shatter the status quo that him and Dazai have kept going for year after year.
Autonomous action in the face of uncertainty is necessary for change.
#am i assigning too much narrative importance in the main manga to chuuya? perhaps#will i stop? no#unfortunately this meta doesn't include gogol which is an oversight because he absolutely has to play a role as well#i'm just not quite sure what yet. same as chuuya i suppose#either gogol asserts his autonomy or he... fails. yeah. either he gets dostoevsky killed or... he fails.#i just don't know where he fits in with everyone else is the thing#listen though. it is significant that gogol decided not to play his dying role in the doa's plan though.#gogol is the free spirit of the doa and yet he's closer to sigma and bram in terms of how he is more controlled than controller#anyways sorry this is so long. just my two cents on the matter#bsd#bsd spoilers#bsd chapter 105.5#bsd chuuya#bsd fyodor#bsd dazai#bsd sigma#bsd meta#i don't even know if this makes sense anymore. here.#storyrambles

At the anime expo recently, Asagiri said that BEAST is his favourite light novel. I'm gonna take that as my cue to talk about it once again because i love BEAST so much, and i will talk about it at every chance i get.
So, I'm back with yet another episode of BSD BEAST is pain, I decided to go through the light novel after reading the manga, and we have these paragraphs:
The line that hurt me the most here was, "He smiled like a lost child who finally found his house."
It hurt me so much because BEAST Dazai is merely acting on the memories he got from the Original Dazai. BEAST Dazai never got to experience Odasaku's friendship. So in that moment, he's sitting in front of Oda, but that's not the Odasaku who was his friend. BEAST Oda only sees him as the boss of Port Mafia, his enemy. Whereas Dazai sees him as his dear friend. The only person who "understood him far beyond what he had ever thought."
This one...where do I start?
"It's hard to take someone's word for it when you've only just met"
"I felt as if the young man sitting before me was about to cry. But that wouldn't make any sense. It wasn't logical"
There is so much I have to say about these lines. Dazai is being encouraging towards Oda. It's a rare sight to see, Dazai actually being positively and genuinely encouraging about something??? But at the end of the day, his words barely hold any weight because he's just a stranger to Oda. So when Oda tells him that and Dazai looks like he's about to cry, he, of course, finds it ridiculous and illogical. Why would this man he just met cry over those words?
From Dazai's perspective, those words probably hurt him a lot. Being told that and then being called an enemy by the man who he dedicated his life to save yet, he can't do anything about it. So the idea of Dazai crying, being vulnerable for even a second, says a lot.
"His cheerful, boyish expression now gone."
Dazai, the boss of the PM, the one with tremendous amount of weight on his shoulders thought that maybe for once he could act childish around his friend but that illusion shattered the moment Oda basically called him a stranger.
One thing I've noticed in this particular chapter of BEAST is the display of emotions from Dazai. For a man who barely expresses his true emotions, in BEAST, we get to see an uncharacteristically emotional side of Dazai.
"especially when it hurts so much to say it to them." At this point, I have nothing more to add. It hurts enough already.
Beast Dazai is truly one the most tragic characters I've ever read about. At the end of the day, he is just a shadow of the Original Dazai. He spent all these years planning and scheming and even went as far as giving up his own life for his friend. But that friendship only existed in his memories because in this universe, he is only a stranger to Oda.
What made Asagiri think it was okay to write BEAST and then say it's his favourite light novel?!
#i know im only hurting myself by overanalyzing this but i cant help it#i will never stop talking about beast#bungou stray dogs#bsd#bsd dazai#bungo stray dogs#dazai#bungo stray dogs beast#bsd beast#beast dazai#bsd manga#odasaku#oda sakunosuke#osamu dazai#bsd ramblings

A bloody goodbye
A/N Hi this is my first time posting on tumblr, I wrote something right after my daily mental breakdown from chapter 109 so I was in the mood to write something sad<3 ALSO MANGA SPOILERS AHEAD
The room felt cold to Chuuya, like he was suddenly embraced by the ghost of a dead friend. Perhaps that really is what happened just now. Four bullet wounds could be seen on his old friend and ex partner's body, two to his shoulders, one to his kidney and a finishing blow to his head.
The same Dazai who just wouldn't die, even after all those suicide attempts was killed by the hands of his dear friend. What a sight, any normal person would think that he'd be happy. He has expressed his disgust and hate for Dazai many times.
"Congratulations Chuuya"
A voice rings in his head, his head filled with questions when he stares at the pistol in his hand. Nothing can compare to the immense guilt and horror he felt. He didn't need to ask, he knew exactly what happened. Dazai's lifeless body laying limp right in front of him, the voice of a Russian man ringing in his head and a horrible ache penetrating his skull.
He hated it, all of it. He was in horrible pain, every inch of his body hurt. But that could never even compare to the pain he inflicted on his ex partner. He wanted to throw up, he wanted to die, he wanted to kill the Russian, so many things were happening in his head he felt it was his only option.
"Granters of dark disgrace.."
As he muttered the words feared by all those who faces him on the battefield, he realized this would be his last time using Corruption. After all, no one can save him anymore.
"You need not wake me again"
Red marks appeared on his arms and his face, as his consciousness once again slipped away. The burning sensation of pure rage fading into pure agony from the form. He screamed in pain, but he could feel the power flowing through his veins.
"Chuuya? What are you doing?! This prison can withstand you abilities, you can't just break out with brute force!"
He could hear the Russian's voice fading, this would be his last kill. He could end a war right then and there, but he didn't do it because he had anyone to protect. He didn't care anymore. A small hint of regret flashed in his eyes before the god within him unleashed itself and everything went dark.
Dostoevksy didn't panic, after all why would he? He had completed his goal, and there was no way Chuuya could get to him. He had taken measurements, although he had not thought about the possibility that Chuuya would use Corruption. It was a terrible idea, and he knew it very well.
He would take his final breath in the prison, by the hands of his bishop. This was the end of the terrorrist Fyodor Dostoevsky. And he was ready, he had many things to say. But he'd get another chance the next time he manifests. And he'd do it all over again.
The door to the control room swings open, and a short male flew in throwing a wild punch at the Russian. In an uncontrollable rage, he tore the man's skin off his bones, he punched the anemics face over and over until it was so dismorphed he didn't look human anymore. It hurt, but he never screamed. He had experienced far worse, he felt his own death draw near as the light slipped from his fingertips. He no longer had a reason to hide his true self. He was no man of god, he was a devil, a demon born in the flesh. There was not an ounce of humanity left in his wretched mind.
He never took a final breath, his lungs were ripped out of his body at the hands of the raging man. His death was not a grand moment, no one could see the look in his eyes as he said his goodbyes to the world. He died in pure agony, by the hands of a man he made his servant.
It had been too long, there was no second chance for Chuuya anymore. He had passed the point of no return. In the brief moment where his consciousness returned to him, he could see a man with long white hair in a braid. The man's face was blurry, but he knew exactly who it was. This man was there to witness both their deaths.
"'Till death do we part, Chuuya"
"What kind of sappy crap are you making up now?"
"Y'know, one day I'm gonna succeed."
"Succeed in what, exactly?"
"I'll finally get to die."
"When that happens I'll open a bottle of my finest wine and drink it with everyone from the Port Mafia by my side."
He never planned on celebrating Dazai's death, that would be far too much for his heart to handle.
What did he feel in his last moments? The man who witnessed his death would know. A beatiful, bloody goodbye to his friend, his enemy and his suffering.

so, kyotag, your super honest opinion about bsd characters please (aka, who is your fave and who is your least fave. i promise, i am not trying to get you 'cancelled', i am just curious!) 🎤
Ever since I've gotten this ask I've been trembling, I don't think I can ever give bsd honest opinions for the sake of my own future mental sanity LMAO. The upside is, I can talk plenty of the characters I like!!
My favourite character is Kenji! For real, ahah. I'm just always drawn to characters that are just... Good. little guys only trying to do their best and be kind. I suppose there's also a factor of “that's who I want to be” that makes me like them in particular. I don't like the direction they went for Kenji's character in chapter 100.5, but really? I wasn't particularly let down by it either, like it's so fundamentally coherent with the worldview bsd expresses, if anything it was chapter 13 that was out of the scheme. I'm a professional canon ignorer at this point and I'll keep doing just that ahah.
↑ Saw this scene for the first time in the anime, went “Slay! Communist king!”, and he's been my favourite ever since lol.
Although, if we count in Beast, then my favourite character overall must be Beast Atsushi. I mean, have you seen him... Most fucked up guy ever. He went through unimaginable trauma and he still kept being so soft at his core. He just wants to live but everyone is making it so hard for him. He cares for Kyouka so much and he cares for Dazai so much and (to me) he cares for Akutagawa so much like little traumatized boy how did you manage to save all that love in you despite the Horrors. I can't put in words how much I love him but really he's the only character I can say I really sympathize with, like, I want good things to happen to him. I want him to spend the rest of his life coddled and adored.
I love all the female characters <3 I ADORE Kyouka, I think among the other female characters she's the most multilayered and complex character with a structured and compelling story arc. I think she's seriously nice, I really love this stark contrast between her sharp, cynical side and her side that is so sweet and kind and so utterly 14 y/o, and I love how these two sides aren't really in conflict but just come to be together and make her so authentically Kyouka. She's so dear to me. Also, she's the only female character who can compete with the s.kk / ss.kk four for the role of main character, so like, I'm rooting for her ahah.
I adore Yosano for self-explanatory reasons lmao. The chapters of her backstory may not be my absolute favourites for a mere matter of personal taste but I definitely think they make for the best written chapters in the whole manga. I really like how sensitive she is of others' suffering, I think she's amazing– I think her compassion is truly amazing. I want to read more stories of unapologetically compassionate characters. I also generally really really love “older sister” kind of characters!!
I love Kouyou with all I've got. I'm sorry, I genuinely think her story was this good on mistake, but still. I think her backstory makes her genuinely intriguing, I think she's extremely cool and powerful and a joy to see in action, I think toxic mother / daughter relationships are super fun to explore, I think she deserves so much more spotlight and should be back as soon as possible.
I love Mitchell lmao. Like I know it may not look like it but I truly think about her 24/7. I just love women that are kinda silly and over the top. She's got like four lines and every single one is a gem and I adore all of them. She's got those big evident flaws and they make her so human and likeable!!! She's my best friend. Not to mention how loyal she is and how much she cares about her family, I really like those traits of her. Oh, and gowns! I love love love gowns.
Okay but seriously I love all female characters. I didn't like Lucy in particular at the start but she's really grown on me and now I adore her with everything. Wells is spectacular and I need her back as soon as possible. Every woman I didn't mention, from Higuchi to Egawa, believe me I love with all my heart.
I went off a tangent I'm so sorry </3 I know you asked for one character, but how can I not mention the others??? It's just been so long for me in the fandom now and I just can't but grow attached. And I've got so much untapped love for women I never get to talk about on my silly blog that focuses on two men. Following up the list, would be Akutagawa. And I don't want to talk about him because I suppose there's no need to after having made one trillion posts about him but also can I just say? I like him for the same exact reasons I like Kenji. She's just a guy trying to be good. The difference is that he sucks so bad at it, and it makes him SO fun to explore as a character. I really have so much fun playing with him. Then would be Tachihara, Jouno...
... ........................ For the characters I like least, I suppose, R/anpo. I'm so sorry peoples. In R/anpo's case, it's just... Why do you have to be so mean and disrespectful all the time. Seriously, dude. Why is he always treating others as less than he is. I'm sorry, I really am, but I just can't help but find it displeasant? Like it takes zero energy to treat other people with common human decency, c'mon dude. At least Akutagawa is trying to do better, but everyone treats R/anpo like he's entitled to be a jerk? Idk man.
K/unikida. In his case, I Do Get why he's the way that he is (and genuinely can relate to him to an extent), it's just... For the way I am, I consider to try and forcibly impose your own ideals on other people to be about the most insulting thing you can do. And he does that a lot, with Atsushi and Dazai and everyone else. He also has this whole forced lack of empathy thing going on like... I get why he does that, and I get what he went through that made him like he is, but that doesn't change the fact you're kinda being a dick to everyone all the time dude. Please get some therapy.
That doesn't mean there aren't moments when I've genuinely liked them both and found them seriously cool!!!! I still think K/unikida is an interesting character and I genuinely get why people like him. I love the helicopter scene, I remember when I was reading the manga for the first time, when he said “no one ruins my schedule”, I was like, whaa, I was completely in awe. For R/anpo too, the Untold Origins arc from what I could see from the anime was really nice, and I also highly enjoy that one scene of his in chapter 81, the “To tell the truth, I had absolutely no assurance they'd believe me”.
Thank you for the ask Nyusa!! I hope you could find this at least a little bit interesting (?). If anything, now you know a little more about me, ahah. Also not talking about Dazai this time because really I can't be here the whole day.
#*deletes paragraph* *rewrites paragraph* *deletes paragraph* *rewrites paragraph*#I have Strong Opinions but also I just don't want to upset anyone ahcjahjvcahk#people asks me stuff#It's just hard to delve into because the reasons I don't like a character are elaborate and complex–#and not something I can explain in a short paragraph. At the same time I don't feel like starting writing an essay–#on why I hate someone you know? That's just not me ahah#Like for R/anpo there's a whole deal on how considering him autistic–#as an autistic person myself it's a kind of representation that personally disturbs me. ---- Drabble Summary ----
A new day has arrived. However, there's another prison has its own unique situation. What is this prison and whose in the charge and such? Also how would Oblivion deal with the news given by Sai from what he uncovered thanks to his informant Terry and his hacker, Cat.
-----
Northen State Penitentiary holds the worst criminals or rather the most dangerous. It rivals the T Prison in New York
The person in charge of that prison is Warden Osamu Dazai. And he makes sure the prisoners are kept secure and safe while making sure it is almost impenetrable. No one gets in or out. Warden Osamu is a reasonable person and nice on the eyes but don't let that face fools. This man is cunning known for being a terrific planner and being so confident in his abilities. No one dares to make a true enemy of him.
While it's true that Warden Osamu is good at his job as a Warden. The only problem is that this man is lazy and has suicidal tendencies that makes his guards really worried about him. Good thing is that he has his lovely companions, the Lovely Horrors make sure that Dazai doesn't succeed his suicide attempts. Plus, they're the ones that makes sure the prison runs smoothly.
"Warden Osamu. Please be serious." Said a young woman who is sitting right next to him taking the rope away from her boss who is now whining and pleading. The man tries to hang himself because he was bored out of his mind. "Please...Sid-chan!" Dazai cries.
"No." Sidney Casper looks at her boss with a tired expression. She has white hair with pink highlights. She wears glasses. Behind those dark frames are bright pink eyes and wearing a black uniform and a knee-length skirt with leggings. Everyone here is properly dressed for the job. Osamu has a certain dress code.
"Besides...you need to see the new prisoners that are arriving..." Sid gives him a folder. Warden Osamu sighs as he goes to read the folder that has its new batch of prisoners. He reads it with a bored expression before smiling. "Oh....so these are the ones?"
"That's correct. They were caught leaving for their home country and the authorities. They were caught smuggling drugs. They are now arrested and are now here. For now, they will be here for the time being."
"Uh-huh." Dazai nods. "Alright...I think I know the perfect officers who are good at watching them. Please bring the others up for this."
"Of course, sir." Sid nods.
------ Waiting Room ------
"God damnit! This is why I hate damn Americans. Especially ones from New York and New Jersey. Those fuck-ups can't stop fucking up." Chuuya Nakahara thought as his hands were cuffed and he had a collar that blocked him from using his ability.
Right next to them are the Akutagawa siblings who are also cuffed.
"....." Ryunosuke was pissed but he can't blame his superiors. The Americans did indeed screw them over. The smuggling was just artifacts and weapons. Not drugs. Port Mafia are against drugs so for several to end up on their own ship.
"Chuuya. I think it might be one of the cartels." Gin speaks. Ryunosuke hates himself that Gin got dragged into this with him.
"If that's true, I'm going to kill them when I get out of here." Chuuya growls. Ryunosuke is in agreement. Right now, three members of the Port Mafia are in the waiting room with the rest of the prisoners.
"Hello! Hello!" The three blinked as they heard a voice over the intercom. The voice has a chirpy tone behind it.
"My name is Warden Osamu. But you can call me Dazai! Welcome to Northern State Penitentiary. Known for the greatest fortress that makes sure that all inmates are safe and secure! We have plenty of great facilities for our guests! Or inmates or prisoners! We have great gourmet meals, gyms for good workouts, classes for those who flunked out of school, and some factories so you can contribute properly to society. Plus, we have GREAT accommodations for our prisoners whether you're just a small fry, a serial killer, evil master evil, or just the worst of the worst~!" Said the chirpy voice.
Chuuya twitched an eye, hearing this voice. What the hell?
"That said...I hope you enjoy your state at Northern State Penitentiary!"
Then the double doors slide open, revealing the man behind the intercom. He is holding an intercom. He is wearing a cap and jacket. He smiles at the new arrivals.
"Nice to meet you all." Dazai smiles at them. Chuuya glares at the man while the Akutagawa siblings keep their faces firm. The rest of the prisoners are skeptical. This is the Warden? Right behind Dazai, are seven officers that Dazai hand-picked for this.
"Now....we need to arrange you to your areas held by each officer that is standing behind him." Dazai smiles. "Sid-chan! Can you do the honors?"
"Of course, sir." Sid said, "But please...call me Officer Casper." She sighs. "Alright, if you heard your last name, you will be assigned to the area by the name of the officer." She begins to tell the process.
"Grimes. McEarl. Kim. Rojas. You're in Area A with Officer Nevermore." Said Sid as a female officer stepped forward. Officer Nevermore or rather Shrika steps forward. A black-skinned female with curly dark violet hair and raspberry-colored eyes. "Nice to meet you all." The men who were called were awed by the beauty of Shrika.
A young man behind her glares at the man.
However..one of the men who were assigned to her scoffed.
"Ha! You fucking serious! Ain't no some bitch in charge of me! You need to do better-" Right away, the man named Grimes falls to the floor.
"Huh? Did he fall?" Said one of the prisoners.
No. Not fall. He was slammed down. Chuuya thought. Grimes gasps, he tries to get up but he can't. It's something is pushing him down.
"You dare disrespect her?" Said a dark-haired male wearing a cap and jacket as he had a stern look with his hand raised. As if he is the one who brings the man down to his knees.
"Now, now. Willie. No need for that. It's fine." Said Officer Nevermore as she patted him on the shoulder, letting him know. Warden Osamu laughs as if it doesn't bother him the least. "She's right. Willie-kun. Give this one a pass. I think the inmate already knows how serious we are about etiquette."
Officer Watts sighs and releases his hold onto the man, Grimes. Grimes gasped as he is now sweating and scared now. Shrika snaps her fingers for her fellow guards, Rick pick the man up while Dale escorts the prisoners to their cells.
"Let's continue..." Officer Casper sighs.
"Charle, Valdez and Leblanc, you're in Area B with Officer Watts." Sid said to which Willie scoffs, "Come with me." He had his guards to help out.
"Foster. Durham. Mullen. Kelly. You're in Area C with Officer Gnat."
"Next going into the female ward is Wong. Shea. Pratt. Flowers. Akutagawa. You're in Area D with Officer Woofhees and Officer Gallows."
Ryunosuke looks to his sister, Gin who gives a look that she will be okay.
"Let's go ladies." Officer Woofhees tells the girls as Charlie leads the way. Gin looks down as she walks with the females. Once they left, Sid resumes to give a list of name.
"Next is Mercer, Osborn, Ellison, and-"
Gin will be alright. We will survive this. Akutagawa thought until his surname is called. "Akutagawa! You're in Area E with Officer Knack."
Then someone stands in front of him. Akutagawa narrows his eyes wondering who dares stand in front of him this close! Whether a guard or not, he will kill them. He looks up to see the reddest eyes he has ever seen. He widens his eyes slightly to see him.
The red eyes glow behind the dark shadows of the dark bangs. This officer has scars. One that is jagged and across the nose horizontal and one wrapped around his neck. The one with red eyes smiles.
"Hello! I will be your jailer!" Matt smiles cheerfully. He snaps his fingers for the guard under him, Wade to usher the prisoners to follow him. For some reason, Ryunosuke does not like this guard.
Now it's only Chuuya.
"Hess. Atkins and Nakahara. You're in Area F with me, Officer Casper."
So he is stuck with this lady. Great.
Then he sees the biggest guard. He notices that guards under these officers wear animal masks. To hide their identities, most likely. This one is wearing a moose mask.
"Moose. Please escort them."
Moose does without a word. And of course, Chuuya hates being told what to do. But he heard this prison has the strongest people to take care of the dangerous criminals which is him. He wonders what this small lady going to do to him once he gets out of these cuffs.
---- Somewhere in New York ----
Ever since the incident at Roosevelt Island Facility, Yuuka is in the infirmary under 24/7 care and heavy supervision. Oblivion tells the others that she will take a sick day. Her sick day is approved after she sees so far.
Of course, she does need a break but for another reason. She got a call from Sai as he and his team found the findings. They are planning to meet up at a rooftop above a cafe restaurant. She got her drink from the cafe and followed the instructions on the paper to take a back door at the alleyway. She takes the stairs and goes up. At the rooftop, she meets Sai but with another person who is looking at his phone. There is table and chair. The weather is good as it is not windy so this is a perfect meet-up.
This must be the informant.
"Sai. It's good to see you again." Oblivion said.
"Good to see you as well." Sai said. "I got the information you needed." "And..."
"There's a lot of history regarding Yuuka Nanako. I have to say it's not pretty. I think you need to sit down for this one."
"Okay." Oblivion sits down. If Sai say it like this then Oblivion needs to prepared for the worst. Sai sighs, "This all started when Yuuka has enroll into a hero school, UA."
"UA? That's one of top school for hero academics." Oblivion said. Shdwkyz nods, "Indeed. She's a good student in her class and she is part of Class 1-A. That is until she was kidnapped during her internship on a mission." Sai shares the folder with her along with sending her documents online. He gives her tablet on his findings.
Oblivion looks through the tablet and sees Yuuka Nanako. She is happy and youthful in her appearance contrast to her present self. Full of life and determination.
"On Friday of May, she was kidnapped. She wasn't seen despite how much effort that the school and pro-heroes were trying to five. After a few months, she was found. Located near the riverside. There are reports that she was ill so she was hospitalized. The doctor who is charge of her care made notes on her condition."
"What sort of notes?" Oblivion asked. Sai sighs, "A toxicity report where Yuuka was given or rather...no forced to consume the drugs that were on the black market."
The fuck?
Then Sai adds"Because of that, the doctor made notes based on her mental state."
Oblivion reads the doctor's notes.
Doctor's note: Even if we treated Miss Nakano from what happened she's not as stable. We tired to help her during treatment but she tends to snap at us and attack with her quirk. We had to bind her down on the medic bed to insure we can treat her. Most of my nurses were poisoned by her quirk. Others knocked out or badly burned. However, she was treated that next day or for a while. We had to monitor her behavior and see what types of drugs were injected into her.
When getting the results back, it was..shocking. So many was given to her it's almost like she became addicted to it. Lucky she didn't but if they kept given her the drugs then it was a strong possible answer. Though, their was some slight healed bruising on her. Maybe she was forced to do something while being kidnapped? We are unsure but will keep a eye on her.
"Fuck...." Oblivion cursed under her breath, reading this. "And after that, she went back to school but she was changed for the worst because of the side effects."
"Here are the school reports..." Said Shdwkyz.
After Nakano has returned back to class she seemed a bit off now. After the incident of being kidnapped, she tends to be distracted in class. Scratching and muttering to herself. Even if she is a bit more violent if others try to touch her, she still wishes to be a hero. We worry for her future after that but it must have scarred her badly right after. We are unsure if she will be able to continue with this.
Oblivion reads that Yuuka was removed from Class 1-A for the safety of herself and the students. Honestly, she couldn't blame them but still...she was discharged like that? But she continues to read the updated reports.
We had a little mishap today from a couple missions from the following weeks and months. Yuuka's quirk has gotten a bit out of control due to the violent nature she has shown. Even if her heart still says she wishes to be a hero, the people fear for her. She's already threatened to poison innocent people that was seen as villians in Yuuka's eyes. Many used to see her as a innocent young woman but most fear her now due to her quirk and disturbing behavior. But now some have made allegations that they seen her when doing criminal activity. We are unsure about this information but will keep looking into this.
For now, shes being quarantined for safety of the public and herself.
Criminal activity? If Oblivion had to guess, it can be anything. She then reads the last update report.
Status: Hero status changed to Dangerous Vigilante
After trying to stabilize her and quarantine her, Yuu has gotten worse. We got word that she's been doing things on her own but given the fact she's acted dangerous towards criminals and some innocent people. Because of this, the people has demanded she get some better treatment. We had no choice but to remove her from UA for her safety and the public. That lead to more violent activity from Nakano till we had no choice but to arrest her. We found out she took down a villain but heavily poisoned him to be killed. She then tried attacking the police only to get tazed and handcuffed.
From that night, Nightshade or Yuuka Nakano was no longer a hero and we pray she gets the help she needs. She was to be sent to prison for her safety and others.
Oblivion covers her mouth. In a way, reading this was a bad situation. "Damnit...why didn't no one send her to a therapist?! She doesn't prison! She needs help!"
"Apparently...if I have to guess. They must have tried it but it ended up getting worse. I bet the school has no choice but to remove her and put her into a prison where she could be cared for. After that incident involving a villain, she was sent there for help."
"A prison doesn't do anything! Do they even know what's going on right now?!" Oblivion said.
"Ugh...the UA thinks a prison serves as a rehabilitation center. However...America and Japan aren't the same here. So they thought sending her to America would be their best bet. Not only that, they try to find people who know best to help with her quirk."
"By giving the shots that traumatized her while she was kidnapped?!" Oblivion growls as statics of electricity are seen. "I mean...did the doctors not relay the information to the prison?!"
"Oblivion. Easy. I know how you feel." Sai said. "My guess would be that they must of tried everything they can think of."
"What about the kidnappers?" Oblivion asked. Sai sighs and shakes his head, "No information on that. It's said that pro-heroes are still searching for the ones responsible." Sai then leads back, "If I have to guess, Yuuka was kidnapped for her quirk and was experimented with given the drugs of the black market."
"So she was used as a guinea pig?" Oblivion grits at this information.
"Precisely..." The informant speaks. "When it comes to the black market, especially drugs, they have to test it on someone. Animals don't cut it. Regardless, we can find the people behind the kidnapped. The best guess would be, it would be the people who made the drugs are behind it." Said the informant.
"Oh right! Oblivion, this is Terry. My informant." He said. "He used to be under my charge but now he is here on parole for good behavior."
"Thanks for helping us on this." Said Oblivion. Terry nods. "It's not a problem."
"So what are you going to do now?" Sai asked. Oblivion sighs, "Right now....Yuuka is in infirmary."
"What?" Sai blinks and so did Terry.
"She tried to kill herself. I knocked her out before she harms herself." Hearing that, the boys widen their eyes, "or...rather she tries to get something out of her." Oblivion lowers her head, resting her head on the top of her palm, "Now it starts to make sense. When I knocked her out, I see cuts on her wrist and arms." Said Oblivion. "She still thinks the drugs are still inside of her. She still thinks she is in that place when she was kidnapped. Right now...after reading this, I'm going to talk to some people."
"People?" Terry repeated.
"I need more information than just notes. Personal anecdotes or whatever you call it." Oblivion said. "I need to talk to the UA. The school. Maybe I can find clues related to this."
"No. You need to stay with Yuuka. Let us handle that. Let us talk to UA and such." Said Sai. "Right now, if she tried to kill herself. Then you are needed there, Oblivion."
"But. It's fine. If anything, we will call you when we get to the school and talk to one of the teachers there. Now you need to look after Yuuka, Oblivion." Said Sai. "Right now....Yuuka might not want you but she needs you." Sai goes to hold her hand and looks at her.
Oblivion looks at him and nods, "Okay. Thanks, Sai."
And so the meeting has ended as Sai and Terry are now ready to go to UA. They just need to hop on a plane. Good thing, Sai has some vacation days left over.
------- T Prison -----
"Here you go, guys!" Jinx smiles as she shows the boys to their new holding cell. Jinx was told that this holding cell area gives the people their own showers without sharing with anyone. Has a lounge with a tv and a few tables.
"Woah! So cool!" Kisho said, looking happy with this. Megumi hums as he finds the accommodations pretty decent. Not bad,
"Yeah! Thanks a bunch!" Itadori smiles at her. That sunshine smile that Itadori flashed at her made her instantly blush. She lowers her hat down to hide her expression. She looks to the side.
"I-I just did it because the reason for your request is valid! Nothing else!" Jinx quickly said in a firm. "You can thank Warden Ger for this!" She said. Itadori chuckles. "I know, but still thanks for bringing this up to the warden. I appreciate it. No we appreciate it, Officer Violet."
"Yes thank you, Officer Violet!" Said Kisho and Megumi nods their heads, grateful for this.
Hearing that genuine tone in Itadori and his friends' voices made imaginary butterflies flutter in her stomach. Especially the way Itadori say it.
"Y-you're welcome! Anyway...I leave you three to settle into your area. I will come back to check up on you!" Said Jinx. "Also dinner would be near soon! I will come back once dinner comes." She said. With that, Jinx leaves.
Itadori smiles at Jinx with a wave. Now it's just the boys exploring their new area. "This is great! This place is all for us!" Kisho said.
"Remember Kisho. We're still in prison. It's not a retreat." Megumi reminds him. Kisho pouts, "Come on, man! Aren't you happy now that we don't have to worry about the other guys? At least...we don't have to deal by pissing off the Six Claws? Those guys can be a pain in the ass."
"Not disagreeing with you there," Megumi said. The first time that they came here. One of the claws took a pass at Kisho, Bakugo because he thinks he's easy. Of course, Kisho defended himself before Fushiguro and Itadori jumped in.
Denji makes fun of Fushiguro due to his first name saying it's a girl name. Of course, they kicked their ass including Atsushi and Rin who try to back them up. After that, the Six Claws didn't bother them because Midoriya says so.
It's most likely that Midoriya knows of Itadori's background and tries not to get on Sukuna's bad side. After that, both parties don't bother each other.
"See? Now we can have peace and quiet around here. That's what you want, don't you?" Kisho asks Megumi. Megumi nods, "Yeah..I suppose you're right."
Itadori chuckles. "I'm glad you two are liking this. After dinner, I wanna reward you both for having my back!"
"Reward?" Kisho asked.
"What kind of reward?" Asked Megumi. Itadori smiles, "You see? But first...let's chill." He said. With this, he might talk to his big brother without anyone eavesdropping. He hears Kisho and Megumi talking. Kisho goes to take the remote and turns on the channel with Megumi sighing.
Itadori chuckles.
------ Northern State Penitentiary ------
"So you four. What do you think of the new prisoners?" Warden Osamu asked them. Officers Casper, Knack, Woofhees and Gallow are present.
"Ms. Akutagawa is behaving herself. Some of the inmates try to mess with her but that was cut short after she shows them that she isn't someone. I never thought Port Mafia would raise such killers." Said Charlie. Jason nods in agreement.
---- Area D ------
A scream is heard from the area that she was in. No less in an hour. Jason 's men had to run over and see Gin have the other prisoner' arm twisted behind her back while putting a shiv at her neck.
"Hey now! No need for that." Jason grabs her arm to which he got kicked in the chin right away. It did hurt but Jason quickly grabs her leg and lifts her up.
"L-let go of me!" Gin shouted. The girl she threatened screams and tries to get some payback by rushing at the two but the prisoner got instantly tied up by Charlie's lasso.
"All of you back in your cells!" Charlie ordered. Gin is growling while Jason held her up effortlessly, "It's over now, lady." He tells him firmly.
------
"Yeah, she seems to know how to handle herself. She made her bunk mate her servant in a short of amount of time!" Said Jason. "It took her awhile to calm down. She is in isolated cell for the time being." Said Jason. Warden Osamu nods with a smile on his face. He looks over to the next officer.
"Matt-kun?"
"Hmmmm....." Matt recalls.
------ Area E -----
Matt watches over the prisoners with a sip of his black coffee. He sees Ryunosuke minding his business with his eyes closed eating his lunch. He can see the dissatisfied look on his face. Then he sees a group of prisoners. Three of them grin to see Ryunosuke as if they were waiting for something.
Matt already doesn't like that.
The leader named Own goes to sit down with him followed by his lackeys. He goes to touch his hand and whispers things to him. Matt can already tell it's nothing good. Right away, Ryunosuke takes his hand away and hisses at him. Yeah he's not happy.
Then something happens.
Blood begins to pour out of Owen's neck. Owen trips and falls which made his fellow lackeys panicked. There it goes. The lackeys try to attack Ryunosuke but Ryunosuke easily evades like a snake before the lackeys fall.
Time to get jump in.
"On your first day?" Matt yawns, jumping from the railing and lands on the table with ease. Already, other prisoners back off as they know fighting Matt is out of the question. Ryunosuke glares at him . Matt steps up to him and quickly grabs his arm before the other's hand even reaches for his neck. Holding in Ryunosuke's hand is a fork now shaved off.
"Easy now. I'm not your enemy. I'm just here to make order is established here." Matt said as he saw it. "Not bad though." He goes to grab the shiv from Ryunosuke's nimble fingers despite Ryunosuke's growls. "Now I'm fine with self-defense and all that. But I can't have you kill people whenever. I get to do that."
"Let me go, you bastard!" Ryunosuke growls.
"Easy hellhound..."
Ryunosuke glowers.
"You're in the prison...not in the forest or the streets anymore." He leans in, "Because...you're in my den..." He said before he pulls Ryunosuke in and knocked him out with a simple chop to the neck. Matt tells Wade, his assisting guard wearing a gator mask to take Owen and his lackeys down to the infirmary while he takes Ryunosuke to a solitary cell.
----
"That's how it happened." Matt gives his report.
"I see. So the Akutagawa siblings caused trouble on their first day!" Warden Osamu said cheerfully as if he was not surprised by this. "And how about our Chuuya, Sid-chan?"
"There was a minor incident," Sid answers.
----- Area F ----
"Chuuya Nakahara. Explain yourself." Sid said.
Chuuya clicked his tongue in annoyance as he had his hands in his pockets. He is now surrounded by guards as there are a couple of other prisoners unconscious and beaten at his feet.
"They started it!" Chuuya yelled.
"Is that so?" Sid said. "And the two guards you knocked out?"
"That ain't my fault! They just closed and ended up getting hit by accident." Chuuya asked, shrugging. A growl is heard which got Chuuya to turn his head to Moose standing by Sid's side. It seems like Moose didn't like that answer. Sid held her hand up, stopping Moose from doing anything.
"While I understand the reason for this. You must not misbehave in this prison nor I condone violence against my fellow guards. I order you to stand down. Now." Sid said firmly. Chuuya laughs bitterly as he can't believe this.
"Lady. You don't get to tell me what to do! You gotta ask me a little nicer!" He smirks.
"Is that so? Do you prefer if I give you something in return if you do as I ask? Maybe...a bone, perhaps?" Sid muses.
"HA?!" Did this chick just call him a dog?! "Why you-don't you go off thinking you're better than me!"
"Aren't you doing the same?" Sid said calmly. Chuuya growls and without thinking, he charges at Sid with a kick. However, his world became instantly upside down as he hit the floor.
Sid made some kind of hand gesture. "Since you already alleviated your anger, I will be placing you in a temporary cell as punishment."
"Damn you! Hey! Don't walk away from me, you bitch!" Chuuya yelled.
-----
"Like I said, a minor incident," Sid said. Dazai hums. 'Good. But be at your guard, these three are part of the Port Mafia. They're not like your typical gangsters. Think of them...as the real ones who are part of the criminal underworld. They're not reason with. They're just stray dogs. That's why I picked you four since you four are good at taming such wonderful beasts." Dazai smiles playfully.
Matt chuckles, "Now that sounds like fun. If that's what you want, Warden. Then I want your permission if Ryunosuke challenges me, I get to fight him."
"Of course, Matt! To your heart's content!" Dazai smiles.
With that, the meeting was dismissed.
"Warden Osamu, don't forget. you have a meeting with the other wardens soon." Sid reminds him. Dazai sighs, "Can I do it tomorrow?!" He whines.
"No," Sid said with a deadpan look. "If you try to get out of this, I will make pack your tomorrow with more time-wasting things."
"Don't do that, Sid-chan! I will kill myself if you do!" Dazai cries.
"If you do that, I will foil it." Sid said. Dazai groans, "Fine, fine! I will go to the meeting."
"It's a video call!"
"That's much better than in-person!" Said Dazai.
And so...it's just another day at Northern State Penitentiary."
To be continued....

Chapter index: Chap.1 |
I should go to be considering it's 1 in the fucking morning but I'm so tired I can't sleep so deal with it
Anyway
Chapter 2 lol
___________________________
After awhile Poe just accepted the fact that Ranpo just kidnapped him.
Even one but Dazai, Atsushi, and Kyouka had left. When Ranpo left to talk to someone he pushed Poe in the chair by his desk and Poe just stayed there ever since.
He was finishing up the writing of one of his novels.
He heard the window open and he saw Akutagawa next to Atsushi.
He tried to focus on his writing and not what they were yelling about but he couldn't cause well they were yelling
"It doesn't matter Akutagawa! we have a door! USE IT!!"
"It's not as dramatic Atsushi!""
It's still safer!!"
Poe walks over calmly "sorry to intrude but you can make walking through a door dramatic it's not hard actually" he says Akutagawa rolls his eyes "then prove it" he says Atsushi shakes his head frantically "No Poe-San! you don't have to!" Atsushi says Dazai frowns "Aw man I wanted to know!" Dazai said Kyouka nods in agreement "I would like to know too" she states
Poe realizes his mistake but he nods and walks out the door to the agency's office which confuses everyone on the other side of the door
Glad he had Karl with him he gave him scratchies on Karls head for encouragement and support
After some thinking a desperate attempt remember the one, he did, that got a 10/10 from the other guild members
He looks at Karl who looks at the door and no thoughts came through this raccoon's brain as he just smiles especially when the only thing Poe does is smile
Poe opens the door very dramatically and even more dramatically poses as he even more dramatically introduces himself
He smiles at the shocked faces that belonged to the detectives and mafioso. He offers to teach them how to make a dramatic entrance no matter what the entrance is. Door, doorway, pool, ect.
And then finally Ranpo returns from his day out with Yosano. They had lunch and went grocery shopping
When Ranpo's shift ends Poe explains to Ranpo that he is going back to America for a short moment of time. Ranpo was, reasonably, upset with this UNTIL Poe said, "don't worry Ranpo, I'll bring back a box of sweets just for you" in which immediately cheered up Ranpo
When Poe came back though Ranpo was given a box of sweets, nothing but sweets. Which made him happy
He immediately opened the box and saw candy, snack cakes, the lot of it. He looked through to see which ones he wanted to try first, attempting to read the names and getting upset when he failed.
However, he got to some certain candies...
He held a box of Mike & Nike's "Mike & Nike's? Who would want to eat a Mike?! He sounds disgusting especially since he's probably hooking up with whomever Nike is" Poe sighed "Ranpo it's just candy you don't have to do that, sides I don't think the candy is named after actual people" Ranpo rolled his eyes "whatever you say freedom breather" he said jokingly Poe giggles "what the fuck"
Ranpo holds up a box of nerds and shakes it at Poe "NERDS?! YOU EXPECT ME TO EAT YOU?!!" Poe's face went red and Ranpo realizes what he said "okay I said that wrong" he said also red faced Poe nods "how bout we find something else okay?" Ranpo nods I'm agreement "yep.. "
Ranpo finds a blow pop in the box "hey Poe look at this" he says Poe looks over "oh you actually found it?" He said he looked up at Poe with a smile plastered on his face all the while holding up the lollipop "this is something I could give you but you probably don't understand" Ranpo said then dropped it back into the box looking up at Poe's face out the corner of his eye watching his facial expressions as he tries to figure out what he meant and what the blow pop had to do with anything
His face of realization made the detective laugh. "Ranpo!" The blushing author shouted as the detective only laughs louder "whaaat?!" He said through laughs "don't say things like that!" The red faced author shouted and the detective calms down "fine! Fine! I'll stop laughing at you... So Poe dearest which one do you suggest me trying first?" Ranpo said Poe thought about it for awhile
He placed a finger on his chin tapped his chin twice then picked up a pack of peeps "these because they are as sweet as you" he says Ranpo smiles at the suggestion and ignores the comment that his friend I mean rival made
He opens the package and takes a bite of the marshmallow Bunny's head "wow! You're right they are sweet! I like them!!" Ranpo cheers Poe smiles at the happiest detective that is Ranpo "I know that is why i picked them out for you"
Ranpo smiles back at Poe and hugs him "you are the best Dearest Poe!!" Ranpo shouts Poe hugs Ranpo back "you are welcome Ranpo dear"

I just realised not too long ago that... well, I don't think I actually like Fyodor anymore. I don't think I can. I just get annoyed every time I see him do anything.
Of course, I still absolutely adore him in his debut arc, but after that? In Meursault? I just... I can't. He doesn't even feel like the same character I fell in love with.
And the recent chapter really solidified that, I think. Or maybe it killed my hope that he would get better... Idk, something about it made me realise how much I don't like his characterisation anymore, and that... it really hurts.
Even though I still love and adore early Fyodor, and have by no means lost any passion for writing and exploring him, this later version... At this point I just want him to be put out of his misery.
I think the main problem—other than the fact that almost no BSD character remains well-written after their debut arc—is that this is a very, truly terrible environment for any sort of interesting development.
Maybe it had potential to be, but he and Dazai have pretty much just been circle-jerking each other for years, and not even well. Like, they communicate in symbols corresponding to past conversations. Okay??? But there's nothing truly impressive to me in that. It's just a fact that they're capable of it.
I wasn't all that impressed that Fyodor could memorise the scratches on Ace's cards, either. What was impressive about his character was how he was able to use his talents of memory and manipulation to force an interesting conclusion, and then the insight we get with Karma into his true motivation and morals.
No matter how I look at it, Fyodor truly shines when interacting with characters who are either not as intelligent as him (Ace, Karma), or intelligent in vastly different ways (Nikolai). He's interesting and complex when interacting with people he's actively manipulating. I want to punch him every time he has a convo with Dazai (like, seriously, whenever Fyodor has a scene I'm happy, and whenever Dazai appears in it, I want to cry), because his entire character devolves into "I knew that you knew..." on and on ad infinitum. (And yes, I'm well aware that the way in which he manipulated Ace was stupid and makes less sense the more you think about it, but at least he was doing literally anything intelligent/creative. I'm not actually looking for Machiavelli or even Makima in Fyodor, this can be brain candy, but, y'know, I want to see him do cool things and be his cool, creative self.)
Also, I do understand that there was no way of achieving this with the structure of the recent arcs. Pretty much the only way to include Fyodor at all was probably to make him a spectator. But I still would have taken 'hidden, shadowy figure whose true plans are unknown' over the peanut gallery. Maybe if the prison break was a good enough payoff, it'd've been worth it, but the prison break is just an atrociously-constructed chimera of contrived happenstances and character assassinations.
And I just... God, I just want Fyodor back. But we won't get him back, and I've somewhat reconciled that already, but it adds an extra layer of hurt to realise I don't even like him anymore. I hate that I get annoyed at his every expression now.
#don't even get me STARTED on the fact that he put DOSTOYEVSKY in prison#and then REFUSED to do any interesting character development with it#DOSTOYEVSKY!!!#bsd#BSD Fyodor#BSD Dostoyevsky#BSD Dostoevsky#BSD Fyodor Dostoyevsky#BSD Fyodor Dostoevsky#BSD Dostoyevsky Fyodor#BSD Dostoevsky Fyodor#thoughts#I'm not even addressing Deus ex Cat Woman#we all saw that atrocity and I've mentioned it before#she makes as much sense in the latest chapter as she did in her debut#oh my *God* was this one poorly written

Bungo Stray Dogs - Kafka Asagiri/Sango Harukawa Vol. 20 - The Usual Capslock Insanity (*anime spoilers and manga spoilers up to ch.115)
-aku-kun and atsushi, what a beautiful cover. LOOK AT THEM ON THE SPREAD TOO, THEY'RE SO-
-i really do want dazai to play nice with aku-kun. i want that for aku-kun. because aku-kun wants that. hey ho, was he always that pretty and i've missed him, or did he get prettier
-i want everyone to remember that the age difference between dazai and aku-kun is TWO YEARS. just two years. it's hilarious and terrifying.
-"and i would never deign to save the man-tiger" akutagawa says, as if he's not doing just that on reflex by now
-"just the two of us?" "do we need any more?" every time this exchange happens, it's a very IT'S THEM heart-eyes moment, and the answer is always YES BOYS YES, DAMN YOU NEED MORE!
-"the twin dark of the new generation" YOU ARE THE SAME GENERATION, DAZAI, FFS
-"young men... take the path that leaves no regret in your soul." in an alternate universe, aku-kun and atsushi heed fukuchi's advice, turn and kiss each other.
-this is something i get in the volumes and something i get with recent chapters - every chapter is SO. MUCH, it's such an experience, that no matter the page count, it feels like i've read a mini-arc. i legit cannot binge-read even though i know the plot. i say this as a good thing.
-my boy so strong :') akutagawa is so strong :')
-akutagawa thinks "i can't go on by myself" and atsushi sweeps in and saves him, WE GET IT, YOU NEED IT EACH OTHER, and we love you for it
-the panel of akutagawa's arm over atsushi's shoulder as atsushi supports him, my heart
-yeah see aku-kun, last time it was "just the two of us" you kinda died. so. given our current circumstances and the singularity and all - NO YOU CAN'T "JUST THE TWO OF US" YOUR WAY OUT OF THIS, PLEASE!
-"if you can land a hit, it can even kill god" oh?! oh?! foreshadowing? maybe?!
-OKAY YOU DON'T HAVE TO LOOK SO AGONIZED WHEN YOU CALL OUT "MAN-TIGER" AFTER ATSUSHI GETS YEETED, AKU-KUN, YOU REALLY DON'T
-dazai should have ramped up his goddamn team-building drills for aku-kun and atsushi, look where we are now -.- DAZAI-SAN, WHY DIDN'T YOU FORESEE THIS FUCKERY (you know i've been bsd-brainwashed when i've gone from "dazai predicted this TOO?! preposterous!" to "WHY DIDN'T YOU PREDICT THIS, DAZAI, WHAT ARE YOU DOING!")
-if i catch you babbling about dazai-san accepting you when you're up against the singularity, aku-kun, honest-to-god. don't you dare.
-"there isn't a man on earth who can replace dazai-san" i mean, agreed. BUT IF I CATCH YOU BEING RECKLESS FOR DAZAI-SAN WHEN FIGHTING THE SINGULARITY, AKU-KUN! we lost you once. it was enough. also the tragedy of aku-kun considering dazai his master. he works for mori, chuuya and the others are right there, dazai isn't in the mafia, he's literally in the enemy organization and they often have conflicting interests, yet when a master is mentioned, he instantly understands that to be dazai.
-aku-kun's expressions as he negotiates with fukuchi are such a mood
-fukuchi says he's grown weary of taking the lives of children for his mission, and guess who the singularity kills first -.- FYODOR, WHEN WE CATCH YOU FYODOR!
-BUT IS THAT UNNAMED LUNG DISEASE CURED NOW THAT AKU-KUN HAS LITERALLY DIED AND BEEN RESURRECTED AS A VAMPIRE AND WILL BECOME HUMAN AGAIN?! IF NOT, CAN YOSANO FIX IT?! AKU-KUN, fuck it, just come to the agency, we're open to anyone. atsushi will vouch for you if push comes to shove.
-lil atsushi's fighting stance, i love him so much.
-what beautiful action panels. so beautiful.
-I HATE TIME TRAVEL, IT'S SO UNFAIR! THEY BEAT FUKUCHI, THEY BEAT HIM FAIR AND SQUARE, IT'S UNFAIR
-not to be a fukuchi defender or anything, but imagine how wretched he must be feeling, needing to kill these two after all this effort and tenacity, after learning and adapting under pressure, after they legit beat him
-the end of the tripolar singularity could be "everyone dies, only fyodor and aya survive, end of the manga" and i'd be like "yep, can't argue with that, can't fault you for that, you couldn't write yourself out of that one."
-it's okay. it's OKAY, AKU-KUN WILL COME BACK, it's o- i hate it here.
-HHHRRRRR "away with you, you fool" and aku-kun smiles?!?! ARGH
-oh wait, atsushi doesn't know that akutagawa is alive in the manga timeline, right?! wait, do we see dazai's reaction to akutagawa's first death? omg i've forgotten so much from the anime.
-BRAAAAAAM
-WHAT ARE THE OTHER NINE CALAMITIES? MARY SHELLEY ANYONE?!
-and what happened to aku-kun's coat? atsushi left wearing it, but on the shore with ango he doesn't have it, and vampire!akutawaga doesn't have it either.
-so did killing bram cancel the skill so there's no more vampires, or is the skill still active through the echoes in his body? i vote for the first option 'cause the latter would complicate things too much, right? RIGHT?!

Chapter I: Nakahara VS Mori
POV: Chuuya
(2,552 words)
(A/N: For this context, Dazai's surname is Mori so Chuuya calls him Mori and calls Ougai, Mori-san.)
I'm the only one here and the courtyard is still quiet, the only sounds are the birds chirping, the creaking of the gate, and the swishing of the trees that hide Kafka Academy from the gritty rest of Yokohama.
I like it this way, here I can actually study, which I suppose is the point of my enrollment here, at any rate, it's better than home. I know Kuoyou tries her best but ever since our parents died in a lab accident, and my brother ran off to France, it's been hard.
Kuoyou is in university and works as a secretary at Yokohama Port Corporation, and I studied my ass off for this scholarship.
My head flicks up from my maths textbook when I hear the gate opening. It piques my interest until I recognise the car. I curse myself for letting myself get distracted on this particularly difficult problem. Still, I can't look away. The car is a limousine, pretty standard for the types of kids here, but this car has the Mori family crest on the grill.
Mori Ougai is the CEO of Yokohama Port Corporation, his son Mori Osamu goes here and we have all our classes together. Unfortunately for me, he's an annoying little shit. But, fortunately for me, he's usually only here just before the bell rings.
He steps out of the car, says something to the driver, and then to my horror starts marching right up to me, swinging his hips like some kind of model. Rich, spoilt brat!
When he reaches me he glances down at my textbook and then says "The answer to that one is 3,459."
I should be used to it by now but I'm not, "What!"
"You were close though."
His words snap me out of my shock, how dare he patronise me? "Don't tell me the answer, then I won't learn!" It feels stupid after I've said it.
"I'm just telling you the answer, not telling you how to get to it. Besides, even if I did, it's not like the teacher checks the textbooks anyway." he looks genuinely confused at why I would actually want to do more work and it makes me want to punch him.
"Well, some of us actually care if people think we're lazy and spoilt. You know, some of us aren't born arrogant geniuses, and I actually want to learn. Go flirt with the garbage bin, or whatever it is that makes you late every day."
I expect him to tease me back but instead, he sits down beside me and stares at the maths book. "Yes, you're a very passionate dedicated student, and person in general, so willing to try everything and do it with all of your heart, it's what makes you so admirable."
I can tell he's talking to me but his words don't make a shred of sense, "What the hell!? Stop that, are you high?"
He only laughs, "No, I'm flirting with garbage, just like you told me to."
I can feel the heat rising in my chest and my blood pulsing in my ears, my capabilities of rational thought disappearing as the anger takes over "Oh, really? Ya' know what? . . ."
The punch lands squarely on his left eye and he falls to the ground, not dramatically, he just falls with an empty-sounding thud, I expect him to spring up but he just stays there, after a few seconds he's still motionless.
As I walk away I realise it's the first time I've really hit him like that, with all of my power, and intention to hurt. I mean I've hit him loads of times before but this feels different, for one thing, he didn't hit back, even if just to play the victim. Shit! I wonder if he'll tell. I've always been so careful with my temper, of course, this bastard is the one who made me mess up. I could get kicked out and lose my scholarship for this.
I look around, but nobody's there yet, except the driver. I wonder distantly why he didn't leave, but more importantly, if he'll report this to Mori-san.
Pushing down all of my pride in favour of saving my reputation, I plaster the best sad expression on my face that I possibly can and walk back towards the boy on the ground.
He's still on the ground and completely still, should I say something? I hate that I'm actually worried about this when I should be worried about the beating Kuoyou's gonna give me for this. But what if I actually hurt him, I'll definitely lose my scholarship for this.
Panic starts to rise in my chest, and I fight to maintain my usual teasing tone, "Come on you lazy bastard, get up."
He makes no move, I nudge him with my foot, and try to bait him into getting back up and arguing with me, "Did I knock you down that easily? Wow, so it was really this easy huh? I should've done this a long time ago."
Finally, he stirs. I expect him to make some big announcement about how hearing my annoying voice brought him back from the dead but instead, he just mumbles something into the quiet morning air.
Because I know the driver is watching I extend my hand, and to my surprise he actually takes it. I bring him to his feet and he lets go of me immediately, probably disgusted to be touching someone who doesn't live in the fanciest part of the city.
He walks away, not towards the school, but back to the car. Is he ditching? Just because I punched him? Whatever, what do I care?
I watch nervously as the driver says something to him, looking at me like I'm a bomb that could go off at any second. I would make a crack about how I didn't know rich people spoke to their help but I can't afford to make this any worse. Mori answers the driver and gets back into the car.
It pulls out of the gate the same way as it came in, and then he's gone.
After he's gone the worry settles in my chest. Of course, he left, he's probably going to tell his dad that I 'mortally wounded' him, and then they'll sue the hell out of us.
I try to go back to my maths to distract myself but I can't focus so I just stare off into space.
—
Eventually a hand waves in front of my face, for a second I think it's one of the Mori family's goons come to arrest me but then I realise that the hand is covered in bandages.
"Wha-"
It's Mori. He must have scraped his hand when he fell, but I didn't see any scrapes so he's probably faking for attention. "Hey, Chibi! Did you finally figure it out?"
"Figure what out?" it comes out in the aggressive tone I usually use with him but I try to soften it on the slim chance he's still making up his mind and hasn't told on me yet. His fringe is over his face, particularly his left eye, my punch definitely left a bruise.
"The maths problem, of course. I'd offer to help you, but you seem to be in a handsy mood this morning and I'm afraid I'm not really looking for that right now." The way he phrases it makes it sound like I did something . . . sexual.
"It wasn't fucking "handsy" I fucking punched you, you perv!" So much for being gentle, "And I don't need your fucking help!"
"Suit yourself." He shrugs in the way he does that says 'Whatever, I'm so superior anyways.' and walks back toward the school.
The bell rings and I grab my maths book and head to my locker.
-
When I arrive in the English classroom Mori is already there, in the seat next to mine. Well, we don't have assigned seats but I always sit there, and he knows it.
"What d-" I remember I'm supposed to be sucking up, for the sake of my scholarship. My tongue burns with all the words I want to throw at him right now but instead, I say, "Do you need something?" with as little aggression as I can possibly manage.
He looks at me for a long moment and then blinks, "You may speak normally, Nakahara-san." The sudden formality is clearly him mocking me but it sounds right on him, fitting, like this is how someone like him should talk, not throwing kid-ish insults every chance he gets. I've never heard him talk like this before, almost like he's pulling rank on me, but not like he usually does, shoving me and calling me a dog. At the same time, the elegance sounds weird coming from him, despite his aristocratic status, the words are like a suit that doesn't quite fit. I'm used to him teasing me like a child, and it makes me realise how stiff it must sound coming from me. That was probably his intention.
It's true it would seem hella suspicious if I all of a sudden started being sweet to him, I'll have to try to find a balance. "Well, what do you want?"
"Nothing, I'm just sitting here, we still have free seating you know."
I take a breath not trusting myself to forcefully relocate him to another seat by throwing him across the room. "Yeah well, just don't bother me okay?"
He gasps dramatically, throwing a hand over his chest, "Of course not!"
The relief is immediate, to be honest it was actually kinda creepy hearing him talk like some fancy businessman.
-
English goes well, and true to his word Osamu doesn't bother me once, not even to correct the mistakes I'm sure I must be making. It's relaxing.
But, as soon as I step out of the classroom door, he's beside me. "You didn't make nearly as many mistakes as usual, Nakahara-san, have you been studying more?"
I can tell he's still teasing me about being stiff earlier. "No, It's because you weren't bothering me the entire class. If you keep this up I'll kick your ass out of that top spot!" I almost regret saying that, god forbid I give him more incentive to pester me. As if anyone could ever touch his ranking.
"As if, Chibi can't even reach that high." he echoes my thoughts and I can't help but laugh just because it's so true that I can even forgive the height jab. I shake my head and head to my locker.
The next class is maths, just before I enter the room someone catches my shoulder. I turn. It's a tall blond boy with glasses, he holds a green notebook with the word "Ideals" written neatly on the cover in fancy script. I think his name is Kumiya or something like that.
He looks concerned and whispers as he speaks, "What did you say to Mori-san in the corridor, he looked like he'd just seen a ghost?"
"Huh, what'd ya mean?"
"I have English with you and right after you walked away he looked like he might faint."
The boy's words confuse me, and I have seriously no idea what I could've said to shock him so much. "He must have realised he forgot to turn his oven off or something."
Shaking off the strange encounter I head into the class
In maths, we do have assignment seats, and Mori's is right next to mine. It's hell. He's always holding his stupid IQ over my head.
When the professor releases us to do work he does his work with ease, finishing before me and the rest of the class. But that's not enough, no, then he turns to me and scans my paper.
He frowns, "You're still doing it wrong. I can help you if you like."
"No, I don't need your help."
"But, you clearly don't know how to do it?"
"You think I don't know that you smug asshole!"
"Well, if you know you're not doing it correctly then, why–"
The argument goes on until the work timer goes off, scaring the ever-loving shit out of me and making me fall out of my seat. I mutter a curse. And gather my worksheets, releasing rather belatedly that most of them are less than half done.
To my horror the teacher is walking down rows, he isn't collecting the paper but I see that he's checking it, I take out my maths book and pretend to be consulting the text. I glance over and see that Mori has his book out too and is dutifully "checking his work". Of course, he's done nothing wrong.
Professor Tsushimura approaches us and looks disapprovingly down at my mostly blank papers.
"Is there a reason, Nakahara-san, that your work has gone undone?"
I look over at Mori, the smug bastard.
"Yes sir actually, Mori-san wouldn't stop bothering me. He repeatedly took my materials and refused to return them."
At this accusation, Mori looks up but directs his gaze back down before the professor notices.
"Ah, I see. Well, seeing as you're such a hard worker Nakahara-san I'll let you off with a warning, and I'll be moving your seat, come see me when you get to class tomorrow for your new seating assignment. And Mori-san," the boy looks up looking innocent, "while I did not witness your transgressions myself I'm sure you will be fine with another person next to you and cleaning the blackboard and desks during your free period today."
"Of course, professor." Mori just nods making no effort to deny my mostly false claims. I'll admit I expected him to come after me and the fact that he didn't startles me and leaves an almost uneasy feeling in my stomach. He must be planning his revenge. I hope that maybe he just wanted to suck up, but I know that isn't true.
The professor nods, pats me on the and heads back to his desk, dismissing the class just as the bell rings.
I cram the worksheets hurriedly into my bag and head off to the library to complete them.
By the end of the free hour, the concept starts to make sense. I think I'll be able to finish them at home.
The next class is Science.
I sit next to Mori in this class too, it's because we have M and N surnames and the seating chart is alphabetised. When I sit down Mori looks away.
He doesn't look at me for the rest of science.
I ignore his eerie silence as best as I can and focus on my worksheet. The work is easy because we have a substitute teacher (Some old guy with a monocle) so I finish quickly. I want to work on my maths a bit more but when I finish I find myself turning to look at Mori. He's on his phone, playing one of those mindless candy-crush-type games.
Soon my maths is abandoned as I watch him engrossed in something on his phone, he almost looks like a normal kid.
Before I know it the bell is ringing and I curse myself once again allowing Mori to distract me.
-
In History the same thing happens, it's kind of creeping me out and I know whatever he must have planned is going to make my life hell.
But by Physical Education, our last class of the day nothing has happened.
Maybe he just decided to stop wasting his time on a peasant or something but either way, I'll keep my guard up.

Newsflash: Dazai cares for Chuuya
Before reading any further, I will be talking about stormbringer, so spoilers ahead!! Translation credits go out to: @popopretty on tumblr, make sure to give this kind human some love and appreciation<3
Also if you want to read the first few chapters of stormbringer: @buraihatranslations is currently translating it, give them much love and appreciation as well, they deserve it!!
Honestly, I have been so obsessed with Soukoku lately and I think the reason behind this is because when it comes to Soukoku, their feelings for each other are not as easy to grasp as love or hate, it is much more profound than that. There is care, hurt, trust, resentment, companionship, bitterness, and consideration...And ironically enough, thats just the tip of the iceberg.
If we break down their individual feelings towards each other, it will be easier to understand their bond.
On Chuuya's end, his feelings are much more clear due to his expressive personality. He wears his emotions on his sleeves, he can try and hide what he feels towards Dazai but his true feelings tend to unravel easily.
He sometimes tries to mask his feelings towards Dazai by throwing insults, but his facial expressions are enough to contradict what he is saying.
Chuuya's feelings towards Dazai can be easier to comprehend. He obviously feels this certain betrayal due to the fact Dazai left the Port Mafia. Not to mention, he and Dazai have always had a rivalry relationship.
In the Soukoku wiki page, it is stated that Chuuya is aware of Dazai not experiencing a proper childhood, therefore allows him to act as childish as he can and lets him tease him relentlessly. I don't know how reliable this source is, but either way I think its worthy enough to add.
In the Dragon head conflict when Dazai was out of sight, Chuuya told Mori to forget about Dazai. That was until Hirotsu mentioned a microscope, Chuuya quickly realizes it was code language because he remembered a previous conversation where Dazai says he needs a microscope to be able to see Chuuya properly.
The moment he figured out it was a tracker, Chuuya did not hesitate to jump in and rescue Dazai. But here is the catch: No one but Chuuya knew about the microscope, if Chuuya really didn't care for Dazai he wouldn't have mentioned the microscope and kept all this under wraps, leaving Dazai in a mess.
Chuuya trusts Dazai with his life. He never hesitates to leave his life on Dazai's hands when it has to come to it. Chuuya and Dazai have known each other for years, for Chuuya to be able to trust Dazai that much is because Dazai also cares for him too, right?
The answer here is yes, Dazai cares for Chuuya. In a superficial level, it doesn't seem like Dazai truly cares, but I can assure you that he does care for him. Weather you like to think of his care in a platonic or romantic manner, the care Dazai has for Chuuya is undeniable and extremely significant for Dazai's character.
I think that stormbringer establishes this idea even further. There is one specific moment in this light novel that shows his genuine concern towards Chuuya's well being:
"There is one problem." Dazai cut off his sentence hesitantly. "It has nothing to do with the sucess rate of the plan. It is a matter we have to overcome in the end but... It may require some time to decide."
"What's with you?" Chuuya raised his eyebrows at Dazai. "Stop dramatizing it. Just hurry up and say it."
"I said earlier about this control spell to open the 'gate' that is used to reset the command inside Chuuya, right?" Dazai spoke with a strangely restrained voice. "If we use that, the logs of the command formula that were written in the past will be erased. That means...even if the memory erasure was used on Chuuya in the past, the traces of that will be erased as well."
"What?"
"I told you before right, the memory erasure command. The only way we can confirm if Chuuya is human or not is to check the history to see if the memory erasure command was ever used. It means..." Dazai looked at Chuuya with eyes that he had never looked at him before. Those eyes were serious. "If we use that control spell, the method to confirm if Chuuya is an artificial personality created by a string of code, or just a normal human being, will be lost. For good."
The time had stopped.
Chuuya opened his eyes and looked towards Dazai but his eyes were not seeing anything. The wind blew between the two of them. Even so, Chuuya did not blink.
"Verlaine became like that because he was tormented by the curse that he was not human. That only is enough of a big problem. The matter of being human or not." Dazai looked at his pocket watch, gave it a glance and continued. "I can delay the time until the plan starts for about two minutes. I will send an order for my men to wait... You can think about it alone for a while. Cuz I guess its hard for you to collect your thoughts with me around."
Having said so, Dazai turned away and walked down the stairs, leaving Chuuya alone.
Dazai fixated in his pocket watch. Two more minutes. Too short for a life decision. But he couldn't afford more than that.
Inside Dazai's head, he was planning a procedure to swith to an alternative plan in case Chuuya refused, at a tremendous speed.
This section in stormbringer is personally one of my favorites, this is a very rare moment between both of them, but especially for Dazai. Like I stated earlier Chuuya wears his emotions on his sleeves, therefore even if he tries to mask his care with insults, its still painfully noticable that he genuienly looks after Dazai. Chuuya also sometimes show a vulnerable side of himself to Dazai, especially after using corruption.
Dazai on the other hand is extremely unreadable. Its hard to understand his true intentions and if he really cares for people or only sees them as a pawn. In this moment though, Dazai was being painfully genuine. Dazai literally prioritized Chuuya over the mission. He was already thinking of coming up with an alternative plan just in case Chuuya refused, obviously the sucess rate of the alternative plan would be lesser than the actual plan Dazai had in mind, he choose Chuuya's wellbeing over a mission.
In this section, Dazai wasn't throwing jokes or witty remarks, he was being serious. Because Dazai knows how desperately Chuuya wants to be human. He knows how important being human is to Chuuya.
Dazai wasn't manipulating Chuuya by giving him the chance to decide, we can see that Dazai was literally showing a lot of hesitation when mentioning this to him, we also get to see what Dazai was thinking, and we can tell he wasn't thinking about manipulative his movements in any way. All of this wasn't coming out of manipulation, it was coming out of pure care.
After six steps, Dazai reached the stair. He stepped on the stair and started walking down. Three steps down the stair, he heard a *clang*, a cool sound of metal echoing behind him. It sounded like the metal was kicked by the sole of someones shoes. The moment Dazai realized what the sound was, Dazai turned around in surprise.
There was already no one at the top.
Dazai was dazed for a moment, then he loosened his lips and laughed.
"Trying to act cool, huh?" Dazai smiled, both annoyed and relieved. Then he turned on his radio and sent out his order. "Chuuya has sallied, everyone get ready for battle."
I personally love this part so much, relief washed over Dazai the moment he noticed that Chuuya was going to go through with the first plan, which proves my point that he wasn't manipulating him and how Dazai was under a lot of stress because he wasn't sure if the alternative plan would be as effective as his original one.
Yet he still was willing to go through the alternative plan if Chuuya refused, because Dazai values him and regards his wellbeing.
Dazai was being surprisingly gentle in this section, he was being honest. There was no ulterior motive behind his actions here, just a boy looking after his partner.
"So i'm going to send an order to my men to prepare for action... Is that okay?"
"Of course it's okay." Chuuya turned to Dazai. "Why are you asking me such a thing?"
Dazai didn't answer right away.
That was an unusual expression. It's like he was trying to say something, but he had to arrange the words in his head to decide where he should start. An expression he rarely shows.
This was right before Dazai drops the bomb to Chuuya about the memory erasure command. He was even asking for Chuuya's opinion on sending his men to get ready, this was the first time Dazai ever showed actual concern without masking it with witty remarks. You can tell that Chuuya isn't used to this.
And when you think about it, when Dazai and Chuuya have missions together, Dazai always uses corruption as a last resort and he always allows Chuuya to make the decision if they will be using it or not.
I personally belive that the main reason Chuuya trusts Dazai with using corruption is because The Sheep used to exploit his powers too much, but Dazai leaves the decision to use corruption up to Chuuya. Dazai understands the physical and mental toll corruption takes on Chuuya and therefore leaves the choice up to him.
Theres another section in stormbringer that I really enjoy, it doesn't necessairly show solicitude but I still think this should still be taken into consideration:
"You seem pretty confident that Chuuya is human, don't you?"
"I am," Dazai laughed with a sigh. "There is no way a man-made code could create such a personality that I detest so much."
Throughout the whole story, Dazai is more than determined that Chuuya is human. The main reason Dazai finds Chuuya so intresting is because of how frighteningly human Chuuya can be, because of the fact that he always wears his emotions on his sleeves, something Dazai rarely does himself. Thats personally a nice sentiment from Dazai's end, even when Chuuya struggles completely when it comes to believing in his own humanity, Dazai still can't help but see him as a human being.
Also I am aware that Dazai literally said he detests Chuuya here but he also sighed and laughed while stating this, showing us that he isn't being serious about hating him.
And its not only in stormbringer were he shows his concern towards Chuuya. In fact, in this following manga pannel Dazai is telling Chuuya that if he is willing to listen him, he will stage his own escape so that Chuuya doesn't get punnished.
Honestly, if Dazai didn't care enough for Chuuya, he wouldn't have mentioned this to him. Chuuya didn't care enough to realize that he literally unwillingly freed Dazai which would get the pm mad at him, so the fact that Dazai is literally helping him out is no doubt out of care for him. If Dazai didn't have any regard for Chuuya he would've not staged his escape or mentioned anything to Chuuya, eventually incriminating him.
There are many misconceptions when it comes to Dazai's feelings towards Chuuya, people think that he doesn't care for him due to the fact that he left the Port Mafia, leaving Chuuya behind. But heres the thing: Dazai's intentions had nothing to do with Chuuya. He left the organization for his own good, he left it to fullfill Oda's wish.
"If Dazai cared for Chuuya then why didn't he take Chuuya with him?" the reason is simple, he knows how much the PM means to Chuuya. In stormbringer it is shown that Chuuya feels as if his humanity is attached to the people he is loyal to, in this case its the port mafia. Verlaine wanted to get rid of the pm because he believed that the pm is what kept Chuuya's humanity, eventually making Chuuya believe that he is only human if he stays loyal to the pm. Dazai knows this. Thats exactly why he didn't take Chuuya with him or even explains to Chuuya why he left, he knows it would be selfish to basically rip Chuuya's sense of humanity apart.
I have a feeling that if Dazai told Chuuya about the real reason he left the Port Mafia, Chuuya will not only feel conflicted about being in the pm, but he would also have an inner conflict with himself as a human.
People also think Dazai may not really care for him because of the fact that after the fight against Lovecraft he actualy deserted him, maybe that part was truly just supposed to be seen as simple humor, but either way I want to talk about it. Chuuya's only request to Dazai was to take him back to base safe, so why did Dazai leave Chuuya behind?
I mean he has carried Chuuya back to saftey before with no problem, for example in stormbringer when Chuuya uses corruption for the first time Dazai carries him back to the billiards bar and not to the mafia’s base so that he could say goodbye to his passing friends.
The reson behind this is because Mori needs to know that unlike Dazai, Chuuya is absolutely loyal to him. Leaving Chuuya the way he did will make Mori believe that these two really are at each others throats and that Dazai is insignificant to Chuuya. Making it seem that for Chuuya, the mafia comes first before anything else.
Therefore Dazai established Chuuya's saftey within the mafia since not only does Mori want these two to be hostile with each other, he doesn't want Chuuya to eventually turn against him if he truly found out more about Dazai's true reason of departure. Then again, this isn't canon but it is a logical assumption.
Not to mention that although Dazai did leave him behind, he folded Chuuya's coat and hat before taking his leave. There is also an an extra chapter where Ozaki Kouyou was talking with Chuuya but when he left he forgot his coat, which made Kouyou came across the coat; where she noticed a badge sewed inside saying "Name: Hatrack", she smiled fondly thinking to herself that some things just never change, in this case, Dazai and Chuuya's bond.
Dazai literally took his time to sew this into his coat just to tease him, it was a simple gesture but it shows us how their dynamic will never change. No matter what these two go through, they will always share a bond that consists on teasing, trust and underlying care.
All of this actually makes that theory of Dazai planting a bomb under Chuuya's car for the sole reason that the PM doesn't find Chuuya as an acomplice who aided Dazai on his escape much more feasable.
For Dazai to just plant a bomb under Chuuya's car with no motive makes no sense because if Dazai's true intentions were to simply mess with Chuuya, he would've most likely made it clear at that time. Dazai always has an underlying motive behind his actions, and in this case it is very likely that he did that for Chuuya's sake.
Don't get me wrong, I am aware that the bomb incident could've just been a comedic moment and I shouldn't look too much into it, but there is still a posibility, right?
These two hold so much trust and care for one another, yet they also hold a lot of bitterness and resentment. In the end the good aspects of their dynamic outweighs the bad.
Either you see these two in a platonic or romantic way, you can't tell me that their bond isn't significant.
Thank you so much for reading!! I wanted to talk about this for a while because I feel like people misinterpret Dazai's feelings towards Chuuya a lot so I hope this clears up things a bit<3

characters: nakahara chuuya, you
a/n: idk what this is... im tired, its 1am and i want a haircut... i'd most likely let chuuya give me a haircut. i love that man ig (i'll probs make this an extra chapter to my longfic,, lol)
"Are you really sure you want me to do this?" you hear Chuuya's worried voice coming from behind you and find yourself rolling your eyes.
Stopping yourself at the last moment from nodding, you sigh. "Chuuya, we've been over this already. Just stop asking and get to work."
Footsteps walking away for a brief moment, only to come back after a clanking noise, he runs a hand through your hair rather hesitantly.
"Alright, message taken." he says and you close your eyes in content.
Except, Chuuya isn't exactly done yet. "Why not ask that boyfriend of yours to cut your hair though?"
Hoping his hold on your hair isn't as thight, you whip your head to face him. "Don't call him that." The smirk on his face tells this time it was just a bait. You can't help but pout.
He only snickers at your furrowed expression. "Sure," he drags out the 'u', "whatever you say."
"Would you entrust your hair which is attached to your head, to a Dazai with scissors?" you say the next words much slower and with emphasis as you turn back to your initial position.
Hands stop stroking your hair and you can tell he's contemplating for a moment.
"Fair enough. I see your point." And with that, you can hear the snapping sounds.
A moment passes with nothing but silence, except for the occasional sounds of scissors snapping and hair falling off.
It's almost comforting, to share a silence with Chuuya.
And when you think about it, of all the times you spent together, be it alone or not, when was it ever with a mutual understanding towards each other, recognizing the silence within one another and just existing?
Far more less than you'd like, you're sure about it.
"'Kay so I know you're sick of me bringing this up, but-" his voice reaches your ears again, you're not sure how close he is standing.
"Why not to somewhere else or, i dont know, ask the others for this?" there is a hint of deffidence in his voice. Perhaps he isn't as much a fan of this as you are. Or maybe he just doesn't know what you expect or how you'll react.
And you can't exactly blame him for that.
"It's just hair, Chuuya. You'll cut it short." You make a snipping gesture with your fingers as you talk. "It's not like I want a specific style anyways." you finish and hear him mumble an "okay"
"Also, I figured it was time we hung out outside our social circles and overlapping work assignments." Chuuya doesn't reply with anything to that statement.
Yet you can tell from his movements and breathing that he has calmed down a little. Maybe if you had a view of him, you could spot shoulders that have relaxed. And if you listen carefully, you can pick up on a low humming coming from his lips. No matter what song it is, you doubt it'll ever surpass his humming.
"Y'know," he begins and you can hear the ease in his voice. "It's almost weird,"
"Weird how?" you don't let him finish.
His hands stopped moving long ago, the scissors probably cast aside. "Seeing you like this." you're not sure where his hands are but you wouldn't mind it if he placed them on your shoulders.
"You mean the hair?" The temptation to turn and watch for his reactions as you speak is strong, very so, yet you resist. Whatever intimacy that lingers in the air, you don't want to disturb it, or him.
"I guess." you can hear him shrug almost. "But it suits you like that too." His hands go up in your hair, almost mindlessly and caress slightly as he speaks.
"Why, thank you!" You smile and lean back, closing your eyes as Chuuya keeps running his hand through your hair.
"It's just-" Chuuya utters and you internally groan.
So much for a shared moment of tranquility.
you cross your arms. "It's just what?"
you didn't realize you spoke with a tone. You wince at it but you doubt you can let out a 'sorry' now.
"I... might've cut your hair a bit too short." he replies a bit timidly, something you'd never expect to hear from him. And he actually sounds apologetic too. You just want to laugh at this.
And you do.
This only confuses the ginger further.
"It's fine." you drag the 'i' and tilt your head as you turn to face him.
Placing your hands on the back of the chair, you rest your chin and lean toward him. "I told you that already, didn't I? I just want a messy, short haircut. It doesn't have to be perfect, or stylish, or whatever it is you assume I want."
And as you lean, he takes a step back. It's always amusing how he flees so sudden whenever you display close proximity to him.
"And besides," you crane your neck a little, "it was quite nice to feel your fingers in my hair." you say in a whisper and smirk, as he struggles to say anything back, face growing the lovely shade of pink you've come to adore on his cheeks.

When discussing or analyzing Dazai, one thing I hope you will keep in mind when reading anything I write about him is that from my perspective, he is always, always both.
What do I mean by this? Well, I find there tends to be a general split among people who hold the opinion that "he's a manipulator and will always be manipulative" and "he's doing his best to be good and helpful and live up to Oda's last wishes for him", of which, neither is completely right - because he is both. But even among the people who hold to this dual-nature interpretation, I find that his individual actions and motivations still tend to be thought of in a dichotomous manner - is it manipulative, or genuine?
Again, I think it's always both.
Dazai has a very pragmatic view on a lot of things - he is always looking for the usefulness of things and people so that the situation turns out in his favour. He's incredibly adept at this, and his prediction and placement and careful reveals are all manipulation tactics to get his allies and enemies doing exactly what he needs them to. I don't think anyone can contest this since we see it over and over in the series.
But that's not all there is to it. He's not solely manipulative and he does, to some extent, sympathize with others - I think there are several instances of this in the series, but I want to stress that this has been apparent since Chapter 1!
For context, Dazai is recalling what Atsushi said to him a few minutes earlier, but it's very interesting that it should be this specific part of the conversation. He could've flashed back to the part where Atsushi said he had nowhere to go; no money, no food - he is about to trick him into joining, after all, and this is the key piece he uses to basically force Atsushi into the Agency. But instead it's Atsushi's self-deprecation that catches his attention, and it really does, because even during the conversation, he turns to look at him after he says this with an odd expression.
You could say that this makes Atsushi easier to manipulate, if that's your angle, but that can't be solely it, because in the later conversation with Hirotsu, we know Dazai was planning to bring Atsushi into the Agency and set him up as one half of the new Double Black the moment he met him. The panel shown there is the riverbank, set much earlier in the day than this scene. He was already planning to pair him with Akutagawa since he figured out he was the tiger, so what's with this reaction?
Well. Sometimes the simplest explanation is the best.
He manipulated Atsushi into joining with the intention of utilizing him in his future plans. He also helped him and gave him a place to belong, and importantly, he likes this kid! It's both.
I think much of it might be that his brain just kinda works way too fast - he's such a natural at crafting these elaborate plots and seeing how things connect and gathering useful people like resources that it's practically automatic - though this is not a great means when you're trying to be a kinder person. There's an omake, I believe, that has him saying "I like using my head for justice", i.e. using these underhanded means to act for the better. Not great, but those are the kind of gifts he has. He's way more suited to exploitation, but is choosing to use these tactics to save people now, which is quite reminiscent of what he tells Kyouka. Kyouka's talents lie in killing people - when what you're good at isn't who you want to be, what do you do? Well, I expect you use what you have, even if it's not ideal.
Now, about the current situation with Sigma - I think he definitely likes him, and is intrigued by him and his situation. We did get a little thought bubble where the guy amusedly compares him to Atsushi, and you can't tell me he doesn't care about Atsushi (listen to the onsen drama cd, or read 55 Minutes if you somehow don't believe me). But also, it's undeniable that Sigma is in a very vulnerable position of being homeless and having had no one be genuinely kind to him before. His trust is very easy to earn, and with the latest chapter, Dazai has now saved his life multiple times. There is, as always, a practical purpose he needs him for. And I have to be somewhat amused because Dazai is quite literally telling Sigma everything he ever wanted and needed to hear. It's a brilliant means of quickly endearing himself to Sigma - but I don't think that's all it is.
Look. The most honest moments we get in this series from Dazai are, interestingly for an expert manipulator, when people are at their most vulnerable. In spite of every pointlessly cruel act he inflicted on Akutagawa, his first meeting with him was open and transparent; much like the orphanage director, it seems he thought this treatment would make him strong and adaptable (he's wrong but that's not the point of this). He cuts Kyouka off in irritation and says "don't give me that" when she implies that she would fail the entrance exam. He tells Atsushi it's normal to cry after losing a father figure and to feel however you feel, even if that person caused you nothing but incredible pain and cannot be forgiven. He refuses to entertain Sigma's assumptions that Dazai sees himself as a superior being to him.
Selective honesty can also be utilized to great effect; Mori does this, and undoubtedly it serves this purpose for Dazai too. But I want to stress that I do sincerely believe this is all still honesty from him. Manipulation, or genuine?
Both. It's both.
#or to summarize: Dazai is a gemini (derogatory)#<- said as a fellow gemini (also derogatory)#the few exceptions to the always both rule are basically any of his interactions with odasaku#and the bit in sb where he tells chuuya about what activating corruption will entail#most everything else appears to have a dual reason.#to be clear: there's lots of ways to interpret dazai - but this is the approach i personally use in my analyses#so i'd love it if you guys would read my dazai analyses keeping this standpoint in mind :)#i think instead of debating 'is dazai bad' which is seriously kind of irrelevant to me#i'd love to talk a bit more about how dazai is actually quite helpful but also equally presumptuous about what will help people#we could also talk about the fine line between protectiveness and possessiveness with him too.#or about how drawn he is to kind people who value life likely because he's hoping to find answers or a vicarious experience#anything except the 'is he good or bad' debate. i don't like it. :/#bsd#bsd meta#bsd analysis#bsd dazai#storyrambles#oof i never know how things like this are going to go over.

SERIES MASTERLIST
chapter six: undesired changes
↳ word count: 6,2k
↳ spoiler warning: mentions of Dead Apple (the beginning of the movie)
↳ other warnings: fluffy but gets dark towards the end
↳ a/n: hi! here’s a super adorable chapter, just so you could prepare for the dead apple that comes in ch07
"You did what?!" Yosano exclaimed loudly, almost spitting out the wine she was drinking.
She and Aira were currently in a bar, fulfilling the reoccurring promise of going drinking together. A few days after the grand battle with the Guild, Aira Razuki was still feeling the excitement and adrenaline going through her veins. Yet, it hadn't been caused by the occurrence itself; it was, most likely, the doings of a certain individual Aira had just admitted to kiss the day of the Agency's party.
"I thought you wouldn't be so surprised," Aira chuckled, sipping on her gin with tonic. "After all, it was you, who told me it was to be expected," she added, watching as the expression on the doctor's face was rapidly changing.
"Well, yeah," Yosano quickly nodded. "But I didn't think you were going to be the one, who kissed him first! I thought you'd chicken out!"
Aira turned her head to the side, covering her mouth with the palm of her hand.
"I'm not that bad at expressing my feelings," she replied, shaking her head to prevent herself from laughing.
"You are!" Yosano objected, giggling in the middle of her exclamation. "So are you official now or something?" she asked casually, however, Aira's response was entirely different.
"I, uh, no," she mumbled, looking down at her hands.
"What do you mean no? From what you said, he's been head over heels for you," the doctor replied, furrowing her brow.
Aira had told her about the events leading up to her kiss with Dazai; she described meeting him in the Art Gallery and how they stayed hugged to each other for almost ten minutes. It was quite obvious to Yosano that Osamu shared some strong feelings for Aira. Of course, he usually was a flirt, but at that time the doctor was positive the thing between him and her coworker was definitely something more than just the usual Dazai's antics.
"I don't..." Aira started, blinking twice as she realized what she was going to say. "I mean, we've only kissed and went for some drinks later on," she corrected herself, her smile slowly fading.
She wasn't sure if Dazai truly had feelings for her. She wasn't sure if she wasn't going to be just another woman, he casually flirted with.
But there was one thing she knew for sure — if her worst predictions were to came true, her heart would definitely be shattered into pieces.
"But I can't believe you haven't talked about it in the past four days," Yosano responded, noticing that some things weren't adding up in her mind.
"We did," Aira corrected her, fidgeting with her fingers. "It was just... casual."
"Casual?" Yosano repeated, chuckling right after. "From what I saw it was far from casual," she added, having in mind their interactions at the office.
Every time Aira walked pass by Osamu his eyes were starting to glow, his attention being immediately turned to her. Each moment he said something moderately stupid, Aira was smiling to herself, returning to her work a few seconds after. Not to say Yosano hadn't noticed them leaving together for the past four days, always chatting and grinning.
To her, it most definitely wasn't casual.
"I don't know, Yosano," Aira shook her head, gripping her glass of gin. "I don't want to make another move first. I'm scared of forcing him into this," she confessed, shrugging as she said the last word.
"Oh, for fuck's sake," the doctor sighed, placing her head on the palm of her face. "Then get over it or do something," she repeated her advice from two months earlier, getting fed up of Aira's indecisiveness.
"I don't know if I can do any of those things," she admitted, exhaling loudly.
She was being completely honest; getting over it wasn't an option. Her feelings were too vivid, she cared too much about Dazai to let him go. But on the other hand, she was afraid that by doing something, she could possibly lose her only chance. With the inner conflict going on inside her mind, Aira had no clue what to do. Battling in her own head, she was even more confused than before even kissing him.
And yet, why seeing him felt so good each time?
"Can't you just walk up to him and confess? Casually. Just as you said," Yosano smirked, using Aira's on weapon against her.
"I..," Aira hesitated, biting her lower lip.
"Oh, so that's where the chickening out comes in," the woman chuckled, taking a sip of her wine. "I know you wouldn't have the guts sooner or later," she added, watching Aira's cheeks covering in red.
"Don't gaslight me, Yosano. That won't work," she scoffed, realizing what the woman was trying to do.
"Why do you act all smart only when it comes to that," the doctor replied with a resigned expression, rolling her eyes at her coworker.
"I'm a detective. That's what I do for a living," Aira laughed, placing her head on the top of the table to avoid the eye contact.
"Sometimes I regret I've decided to become friends with you," Yosano stated sarcastically, refilling her glass of wine.
"It works both ways, you know?" Aira responded in the same manner, getting up from her seat.
"I hope you're going to confess to Dazai now," the doctor said, watching the other woman.
"Nope. I need to order something stronger," Aira replied, wanting to escape the passive-aggressive conversation.
"Drinking won't solve your problems!" Yosano called after her with theatrical confidence in her tone.
"And you're the one to say that?" Aira furrowed her brow, pointing at the half empty glass of hers. "Hypocrite," she added with her eyes closed.
"At least I'm not a coward!"
~.~
"Atsushi, are you okay? You look extremely tired," Aira asked as soon as she noticed the boy entering the office.
His hair was messy, the dark circles surrounded his eyes. He looked just as like he had stayed up all night to complete the most difficult mission in the world.
"I can't get enough sleep, Razuki-san," he replied, yawning just before he managed to sit in front of his desk.
"Kyouka-chan sleeps in my bed now and I've decided to sleep in the wardrobe," he added, causing Aira to hold her chuckle.
"Don't you want to buy a second bed," she responded, biting her lip as she tried not to giggle. "I can even get you one if you want to," she suggested, breaking the eye contact with the boy.
"No, no. It's okay, Razuki-san. I just have to get used to it and I'll be fine," he replied, turning on his computer.
Aira let out a quiet chuckle after he looked away.
She had always liked Atsushi and maybe that was why she felt so bad for him. His innocence and soft heart were the two things always getting him into some unpleasant situations. Yet at the same time Aira could've claimed he was a good person. Surprising, having in mind she had no appreciation for the concept of good and bad.
Returning back to drinking her usual morning coffee, Aira sighed, glancing at an open file on her computer screen. The report of the grand battle still needed to be written, hence almost all of the members of the Agency were equally tired and bored as her.
Paperwork was never fun, considering the fact that now every single person in the room was forced into doing just that.
However, Aira's desk was her safe space. Being the first one from the left opposite of Atsushi, she had the perfect view of the whole office. Her notes were always organized, just as in the space to her left that belonged to Kunikida. There rarely were any loose papers or pens. Anything that didn't belong on her desk was never there, despite a singular cup, always filled with black coffee. It was the complete opposite of the two desks in front of her — one that belonged to Atsushi, second that belonged to Dazai...
...who, by the way, wasn't even in the room at the moment.
Aira furrowed her brow, glancing at the watch on her hand. Nine in the morning. It wasn't unlike him to be late, however, it was extraordinarily disrespectful from him to not show at the appropriate time that day.
Hence why the first thing Aira did, noticing Osamu entering their headquarters forty minutes later, was to immediately get up.
"Why are you so late?" she asked without hesitation, holding a pile of papers close to her chest.
"It's nice to see you too, Razuki-chan," he teased her, ignoring her question.
He knew exactly what he was doing.
Saying hello to Atsushi, he nonchalantly sat behind his desk, placing his hands behind his neck.
"I'm being serious, Dazai!" Aira approached him, standing next to his right side. "Have you seen the amount of work you're ought to do?" she stated rhetorically, grabbing onto the papers she was holding.
"Careful here. You're starting to morph into Kunikida-kun," Osamu answered casually, smirking with his eyes closed.
The next thing he felt was a bunch of papers hitting his head.
"I don't think violence in a workplace is appropriate with our policy, my dear," he responded, watching with one eye open how her jaw clenched.
"Get. To. Work," she ordered, separating each word.
"Nope," he smirked, answering plainly.
With a loud scoff, Aira returned to her desk, trying not to look at him. They may have shared a kiss but that wasn't changing the fact he was as annoying as ever.
Starting to write another paragraph of her report, Aira tapped her fingers on the desk, waiting for the inspiration to appear. She absolutely despised this type of paperwork; fighting was her most preferred task. Yet, no matter how boring the job might have seem — it needed to be done and finished. The sooner the better. Forcing herself into writing first four sentences, Aira began to feel like it was actually going somewhere. It definitely was not about to be her best work, but the job was being done.
Just as she was starting writing another sentence, she noticed Atsushi get up. That seemed to be exactly the factor she saw Osamu lean a bit forward.
"Razuki-chan," she heard him whisper.
"Razuki-chaaan," he repeated, this time extending one letter.
"Razuki."
"Shut up, Dazai. I'm trying to work," she finally answered, glancing at him with the absolute death's stare.
"Let's go out," he suggested, placing his chin on the palms of his both hands.
"No. I'm busy," she responded without thinking. However, realizing what he had just said, Aira couldn't help but blink twice.
"Not now, silly," he smirked, still looking directly at her. "But let's go out," he repeated.
"I might say yes if you finish your report," she answered with a grim tone, however, she couldn't help but blush.
"That's disgusting," Kunikida's voice interrupted as he looked at both of his coworkers with a furrowed brow.
"What's disgusting?" Atsushi interfered as he was about to return to his desk.
"Dazai's flirting with Razuki," Ranpo joined the conversation, taking a bite of his cookie.
"He's not!" Aira objected, feeling her face turning completely red. "You're not, right?" she asked, searching for a confirmation to finish this topic.
Yet, instead of answering, he simply shrugged and smirked as he was looking away.
"He totally is," Yosano responded, appearing right behind Kunikida.
"What's going on here?" Kenji asked, clearly confused.
"I think they're together," Kyouka answered quietly, and only now Aira realized that she had been standing all of that time behind Ranpo.
"I hate you. I hate all of you," Aira mumbled, covering her face with her hands.
~.~
"But it was funny!"
"It was embarrassing, Dazai!" Aira objected, taking a break from eating her pasta.
"Yeah, that's exactly why it was funny," he responded cockily, feeling Aira kicking his leg from under the table. "Hey, behave. We're in a restaurant," he reminded her, only to annoy her even further.
"No shit," she scoffed, rolling her eyes.
That afternoon Dazai had finished his report. That meant that just as she promised, Aira agreed on him taking her out to the restaurant. It was unspoken, however, the both of them knew it was a date.
And yet, Aira was too afraid to start a topic that had recently troubled her mind. After all, none of them couldn't simply bring up the subject of their feelings just like that.
"I'm quite disappointed you've only kissed me once, you know?"
Oh.
Dazai apparently could.
"Excuse me?" Aira choked on her food, completely unprepared for him to start the topic just now.
"Well, I thought the feeling was mutual. That's why I was waiting to see what you'll do," he shrugged with a smirk. "But there was no interest from your side, so I've decided to invite you on a date," he explained.
Aira's eyes wide opened, making her forget she was in the middle of chewing her pasta. Swallowing both the food and the gulp in her throat, she couldn't believe what she was hearing.
Moreover, she couldn't believe Yosano was right.
"Hello? You're there?" Dazai asked with a childlike tone, waving his hand in front of her face.
"I-I... The feeling is mutual," she rapidly responded, not realizing she had just made Osamu laugh.
"You're so adorable when you're clueless," he replied with a grin on his face.
"You know what?" she asked, quickly returning to her usual persona.
"What, my love?"
"I was kidding. You're pissing me off," Aira stated, looking away. She couldn't help the soft smile that had just appeared on her face.
"Oh, how could you say that? You're breaking my heart," he theatrically cried, placing a hand over his chest.
"You're pissing me off but I still like you, though," she corrected herself, toying with her fork. "I guess I'm a masochist," she added, watching Dazai smiling goofily from ear to ear.
"I like you too," he answered, putting the emphasis on the exact word she used.
Having another one in mind, he quickly dismissed the idea of using it, simply because of the comedic aspect of his sentence.
But, oh. How badly he wanted to choose different words to describe how he was feeling towards her.
~.~
"This is unfair," Aira mumbled during taking off her shoes.
"What's unfair?" Dazai chuckled, glancing at her overly expressive face mimic.
"This," she repeated, slowly doing a spin in his living room. "Your flat is so much nicer than mine is. That's unfair," she explained after taking a look at the furniture.
"That's because I'm a better detective, my love. I deserve a nicer flat," he smirked, closing the distance between the two of them.
After their dinner in the restaurant, they both decided it was time to go somewhere more private. Talking about their feelings in a crowded place was less more intimate, hence Dazai suggested they could spend time in his apartment instead. With Aira agreeing, they both set off to the place of the dorm.
The dorm, or rather an apartment complex owned by the Agency, was a secluded building where most of the employees lived. This system allowed them to warn each other in an urgent state but also visit one's flat to socialize. Hence lately Dazai was finding his way to Razuki's flat probably more often than he should.
Today, however, the roles were reversed. It was Aira, who visited Dazai and immediately started complaining about the sizing of their houses. He was an employee of the Armed Detective Agency longer than her, and because of that he got the significantly nicer flat. She fully understood that, however it was no excuse for her to start complaining.
"You're not a better detective. You're just cunning," she responded, feeling his hands wrapping around her waist.
"Yeah, that's one of the traits of a good detective. You're not making your point," he answered, kissing the top of her head.
Putting her hand on his chest, Aira exhaled loudly, poking her finger into his side.
"Hey, you're destroying the moment," Dazai complained, grabbing her hand with his own.
Placing it on the crook of his neck, he lowered his face, stopping right on the height of her lips.
"Oh, we were having a moment? I've only heard your ginormous ego," Aira teased, subconsciously closing her eyes and leaning slowly forward.
"Nah, that's it. No kiss for you today," he quickly exclaimed, breaking the hug and taking a few steps back.
"Oh, come on," Aira complained loudly, crossing her arms in front of herself. "Now you're just being petty," she mumbled, watching Dazai bluntly ignoring her.
With a smirk on his face, he walked into his bedroom, grabbing the book that was laying on his bedside table. Nonchalantly resting on the bed, he opened it in the middle with the intention to annoy Aira. His plan was successful, hence the woman only furrowed her brow.
"Don't act like a child, I was messing with you," she admitted, noticing Dazai raising his eyebrows, only to return to reading his book.
"So you're just going to ignore me now?" Aira continued, watching his still expression. "That's rude, considering you've invited me here," she added, approaching him. Yet, he still didn't say a word.
With a noisy frown, Aira took out the book from his hands, placing it on the surface of the bedside table.
"I was reading that," he responded, a grin painted on his face.
"You have it memorized by now," she stated, referring to the 'Complete guide to suicide', he was carrying with himself on daily basis.
A spark appeared in Dazai's eyes, which wasn't unnoticed by Aira. But before she had a chance to ask him about the sudden change of his face expression, he grabbed her hand, pulling her towards him. Caught off guard, Aira lost her balance, landing with her chest beside Dazai and her legs on his lap.
"What the hell, Osamu?" Aira chuckled, noticing how his eyes widened.
"How did you call me?" he asked with a dreamy tone watching the theatrical panic appearing on her face.
"Move, I'm getting up," she said, rapidly trying to change the subject.
"Tsk, tsk. You're not going anywhere," he replied, placing his hands on her back to prevent her from standing up.
Without putting up a fight, Aira smashed her head into the pillow, knowing that she won't be able to avoid the conversation.
"I've never heard you saying my name... and I must say, I'm thoroughly enjoying the sound of it," he added, causing her to turn her head towards him.
"And on that note I'm not calling you by your first name ever again," she responded, feeling him hugging her closer.
"You're a cruel woman, my love," Dazai chuckled, planting a kiss on her cheek.
"I think you've missed," Aira smirked, placing a finger on her lips. "What?" she asked, noticing his huge grin.
"You'd forgotten one word," he teased her, knowing she would immediately know what he was talking about.
"I think you've missed, Osamu," she repeated herself, rolling her eyes. "Can I have my kiss now?" she spoke with a demanding tone, causing Dazai to chuckle.
"I think you're my most favorite person in the world," he whispered, kissing her on her lips, just as he promised.
"What about Chuuya?" she asked, biting her lip to prevent herself from laughing.
"Jesus, Aira. He's the last thing I want to think about now," he laughed, looking away for a second.
"I'm sorry. I just can't get over it," she responded with a giggle, this time being the one, who planted a small kiss on his lips.
With the biggest smile on her face, she ran her fingers through his hair, gently closing her eyes. Aira had no idea such a relationship could have bring her so much joy, so much happiness. It was like she finally was in the right place with the right person.
For the most part of her life she had experienced none of those things. Her sense of belonging was so weak, she often felt like no one ever wanted her anywhere she went. With Dazai, however, she finally wasn't in the dark anymore. And there was no other place she would've rather been.
But was it what love felt like? She had no clue, hence she hesitated with doing anything and everything. Maybe some time a realization would came upon her, but just now, she intended on doing only what her gut feeling told her to.
And yet still, what was this electric sensation filling every cell, tissue, and muscle of her body?
You're my favorite person in the world. He was hers too. So why was she so afraid to tell him that?
~.~
"Dazai... Dazai," Aira whispered quietly, yet her voice sounded awfully panicked.
Osamu and her felt asleep last night together, hence she hadn't returned to her apartment and didn't manage to charge her phone, which usually informed her about getting up from the bed the morning next.
"Shhh, 's not morning yet," he mumbled, turning towards her and wrapping his arm around her stomach.
"Dazai, it's ten o'clock. We're late to work," she explained, trying to get up from the bed.
"How about we don't go to work today," he responded, placing his head on her chest.
"No. No way," she objected quickly, but couldn't bring herself to push him back. He looked too innocent laying like that.
"Come onnn," he murmured, snuggling up with her.
"No. Get up, I'm not your pillow," she stated, trying to slowly move to the left.
"But you are," Osamu yawned, opening one of his eyes.
"Dazai, get up. I'm not repeating herself again," she ordered, managing to crawl away from his warm embrace.
"Shush and come back here," he added, reaching out his arm wanting to hug her one more time.
Aira shook her head, putting on her black pants. She couldn't help but smile to herself while looking at Osamu, still half asleep; his messy, wavy hair spread across the white pillowcase, his arm in mid-air, waiting for her to join him again, his rosy from waking up cheeks. He looked absolutely angelic like that.
"Quit staring and come to bed," he interrupted her thoughts, yawning one more time.
"We really need to go to work," she responded, however, still decided to lean down and hug him.
"Now I'm not letting you go anywhere," he smirked, pulling her closer to him.
"You can get your rest in the evening," she responded. This sentence was exactly the thing that caused Dazai to sit up and realize it was the day next.
"No, I can't," he replied with a more serious tone.
"What do you mean you can't?" Aira repeated, sitting up next to him.
He couldn't tell her.
He couldn't tell her about Shibusawa and Dostoyevsky.
"Nothing," he responded, quickly returning to his usual quirky persona. "I was thinking of visiting Oda today," he added, swiftly changing the subject.
"Oh..." Aira whispered, realizing what he was talking about.
The night they had their first kiss, she asked him about explaining who Oda Sakunosuke was. As they decided to go for some drinks that night, he told her his whole story about leaving the Port Mafia, saying it was mainly because of Oda's last words.
That was why a thing clicked in Aira's head at that moment. It seemed to her like he needed time to visit his grave that day, hence he wasn't so keen on going to the headquarters.
...or at least that was what he wanted her to think.
"Do you need some time alone? If so, I entirely understand, you know?" Aira rambled, completely losing her reprimanding tone.
She understood how painful it was to lost someone so close to him. Having seen her parents murder scene, she couldn't imagine how hard it was for him to watch his best friend dying in his hands, hence she decided to not investigate further. She possibly couldn't do that.
"You can come with me if you want to," Dazai responded with a soft smile.
"Only if you're comfortable with it," she smiled back, getting up from the bed.
"You look good in my clothes," he changed the subject, glancing at his shirt he was wearing.
Deciding to stay over a night, Dazai had lend her one of his clothing items so she'd had something to sleep in. As his words were spoken, they were not only meant to digress but also to simply compliment her.
"Thanks," she plainly responded, chuckling to herself.
As they both got dressed, they set off to the graveyard Oda was buried at. Not knowing if she should start a conversation, Aira quietly walked next to Dazai. Instead of driving, they decided to walk. Feeling the gentle sun rays on their skin and the breeze messing up their hair, Osamu looked at Aira, taking her by the hand. If it wasn't for the grim atmosphere of the place they were going to, the scenery could easily be complimenting a romantic walk.
"Have you coped with your past, my love?" Dazai suddenly asked, causing Aira to furrow her brow.
"Why this question all of the sudden?" she wondered, thinking the second after that it was probably him wanting to know the answer because they were going to see his friends grave.
Not realizing the question could have meant something more, Aira internally cursed herself out in her mind.
"Sorry, I know where you coming from," she apologized, knowing she needed to answer now. "I think so. Maybe not entirely but I'm getting there," she responded, glancing at him.
"Good," he simply said, stroking her fingers with his thumb. "But when the memories come back, remember to just brush them away. They can't hurt you, they're just memories," he added, making Aira even more confused than before.
However, she had no idea if she was in the right place to question him. She knew how strongly the death of Oda affected him, hence not wanting to make him more miserable than she thought he was, she decided not to ask any questions.
"I've never said it... but I'm truly sorry for your loss," Aira said softly, noticing a sad smile appearing on his face.
"It's okay, my love," Dazai chuckled quietly, kissing her cheek. "You hide behind this facade of a cold person a bit too often sometimes," he added, referring to her words.
"I... I guess you're right," she admitted, looking down at her feet. "But I'm getting softer because of you," she added, biting her lip.
Dazai smiled in response, knowing that what she was saying was exactly the thing he wanted to warn her about.
Vulnerability was the last thing she needed right now.
"Don't change for others. No matter how much you like them," he added.
"I could never...," Aira stopped herself, wondering if what she was going to say was true.
She had changed for others so many times in the past; firstly, because of her parents, who wanted her to become a doctor. She cut off her friends, focusing only on studying. Only because she wanted them to love her.
As second came her change for the Agency. She acted tough and cold, shared none of her personal experiences and hid behind the mask of someone, who didn't care about anything. Only because she didn't want to be hurt by anyone else anymore.
Then, she thought she was finally starting to change for herself. Cutting ties with her past, becoming more and more open, smiling more. But just now she realized it was for Dazai. She became genuine but that had only lead her to becoming vulnerable. Only because she wanted to feel wanted once again.
Aira Razuki had no idea, who she truly was. Her whole existence was based on wanting, not being something she needed to be in order to feel like herself.
And now, with Dazai's words she didn't know if what she was feeling for him was true. She wanted it to be true, but was it what she was doing for herself or him?
Her hand started trembling at the thought of her lying to herself once again.
But then she remembered how much joy and happiness she felt each time she saw him. How she was scared of him being not interested in her. How she was feeling electric every second she spent with him.
And only because of him holding her hand just then, she realized he was one of the most real things in her life. He was the reason behind her feeling alive once again. And as long as she put the line between genuine and vulnerable, she wasn't changing herself for others again.
No.
She was finally becoming her own authentic self.
"We're here," Dazai spoke calmly as they stood in front of the gates of the cemetery.
Aira tightened the grip on his hand to give him the sense of support, joining him in the walk to the graveyard. Without any problem Dazai found his way to the gravestone with Oda written on it. Sitting right in front of it, Dazai had closed his eyes, smiling softly to himself.
Aira watched him from behind, not wanting to interfere with the moment. He needed some time alone, she fully understood that. Watching him carefully, Aira noticed Atsushi coming their way. Turning her head towards him, she smiled as he waved back to her. Soon after that the church bells started ringing and the boy approached Dazai, who was still sitting in front of the grave.
Stepping aside to let them talk, Aira thought once again about the words Osamu had said to her on their walk to the cemetery.
When the memories come back, he said. Not if the memories came back.
He knew that they were about to come. Sooner or later.
~.~
"Burned corpses, fog and suicide. That's a case for a mortician not a detective," Aira mumbled, sipping her black coffee during the emergency meeting Kunikida had presided over. "What?" she asked, noticing a reprimanding glance of her blonde coworker.
"Speaking of suicide... Atsushi, where's that fool Dazai?"
Right.
Just after Atsushi came to the graveyard, he had informed that they needed to be present during the meeting that was taking place just now. Apparently, there had been numerous occurrences of mass suicides of the gifted people in different parts of the world. To be completely frank, Aira couldn't see how that huge number of people could come up with a plan to commit suicide at the same time, in the same places.
It was strange, to say at least.
Another strange things about that day was that Dazai decided to ditch the meeting. He didn't even show any signs of concern when Atsushi mentioned it.
"He said he was going to pass, because he came up with a new suicide technique," Atsushi responded, small drops of sweat appearing on his forehead.
Was it a coincidence?
"That bonehead!" Doppo yelled, causing Aira to grimace at the sudden change of his tone.
With that, the commotion started in the meeting room. Tanizaki siblings started to argue with each other, Ranpo was in the middle of packing his snacks to, what it looked like, a safe box, and Kunikida continued to get angry about Dazai not showing up.
"So, what does it have to do with us?" Yosano asked, her eyes fixed on the computer screen. "There's more to this than just, "Let's be careful, we're gifted, too," right?" she added, causing Aira to nod.
"Like this day couldn't be better," she sighed loudly, placing her head on the table.
They were being warned about mass suicides... But why any of them would commit such thing?
Maybe despite Dazai.
It made Aira think about the whole premise of the situation. It soon had been made clear that the detectives were meant to capture Shibusawa Tatsuhiko — a man, who apparently had been involved in the serial suicides of the gifted.
~.~
Sitting on the floor of her apartment, Aira was directly in her usual settings; her laptop in front of her, piles of paper stacked upon each other. Three empty coffee cups were placed on the coffee table behind her.
She was currently investigating the abilities of the people that died during the mass suicides, while Kunikida and Tanizaki were out in the town, searching for clues. However, this time Aira didn't complain about the paperwork. In fact, she was more terrified discovering the gifts of the victims, than she would be out on a mission.
It was strange.
Every single person that was said to had committed suicide had the exact same abilities they were found being affected by.
"It's a mass murder," Aira murmured to herself, completely terrified.
If the person, who appeared in the places of the killing was in their town, that meant...
...Yokohama was going to be his next target.
Without thinking, Aira picked up her phone, dialing Kunikida's number with her hand trembling. If the killer was here, that meant they were in soon going to be in severe danger.
And she couldn't possibly forgive herself if they turned out to be dead.
"Razuki?"
"Thank god you're okay," Aira said, being grateful he picked up her phone. "Doppo, they're not suicides, they're..."
"Murders," Doppo finished her sentence with a morbid tone. "Listen, Razuki. Don't leave your flat unless it's an emergency. I beg of you," he added, sounding as concerned as she was.
"Is Dazai with you?" she asked, realizing she hadn't heard from him since she had saw him at the graveyard.
"No... but Aira, don't do anything stupid!"
"I won't," she mumbled, hanging up the phone.
She couldn't feel her legs nor any part of her body in particular. She was more terrified than ever. Swallowing the gulp in her throat, she decided to try to call Dazai, yet he didn't pick up. He hadn't picked up any of her next six calls.
With an unsteady breath, Aira watched the dark sky from her window. Every single of the killings happened in the middle of the night. If anything was to occur — it was only the matter of time that night.
She couldn't listen to Doppo. She couldn't stay at home when Dazai was still out there.
Her phone rang.
"Hello?" Aira breathed heavily, not checking, who called her before she picked up.
She truly hoped it was Dazai.
"Miss Razuki? It's Ango Sakaguchi," the voice on the other side of the phone said.
"Ango? Why are you calling me?" Aira asked, fully petrified.
"I know you're close to Dazai but listen carefully. He's involved in bringing Shibusawa to Yokohama. I need you to..."
"What do you mean he's involved?" She tried her best for her voice not to break, yet unsuccessfully.
"I'll explain later. We don't have much time," the government agent rushed her. "I need... y...to th..."
"I can't hear you," Aira mumbled petrified. The signal of the phone was getting only weaker.
"Sk...ll fo—."
"Ango, repeat," she panicked, having no idea what was going on.
"Sk... fortre..."
The call was broken.
"Fortress," Aira murmured with her eyes wide open. "The Skull Fortress," she spoke, connecting the dots.
Wasting no time, she approached one of her drawers, pulling out a gun and the ammunition. Stocking it up to the slides of her belt and wrists, she picked up her set of two knives.
She needed to stop this. She needed to help her friends and...
Dazai.
Was he the one truly responsible for all of this? Was it the reason why he acted so suspicious this morning? Was it the suicide technique he told Atsushi about?
Running out of her apartment, she knew she couldn't hesitate any longer. Finding her way to one of the streets, she noticed that the cars were abandoned in the middle the road, but...
...there were no corpses nor alive people around.
Her hand stopped trembling as the sudden realization hit her once again. The people weren't there because they weren't the target. The gifted were.
Breathing heavily as she stopped in the middle of running, she realized she needed to find Kunikida and the other detectives. They had better chances of surviving if they stayed together, not separated.
But just as she was about to run back towards the direction of the dorm, she felt a knife being thrown at her, fortunately missing her shoulder.
Turning back to see, who the attacker was, she couldn't believe her eyes.
The thing standing in front of her definitely wasn't a person. It looked like a blue hologram. The sparkling red crystal on its forehead shined in the moonlight, making its eyes appear almost invisible. No, it didn't have eyes. Just two empty holes fixed directly at Aira.
But then she noticed the resemblance; hair tied up into a bun, a long coat, two knives in its hands.
It was her.

Note
hiii I just recently read the bsd x haikyuu oc story and I can't express how giddy I got reading it IEHDIXHDIS is it okay if I request hcs of maybe how the team would react if a male member from another team (e.g terushima) hits on the girls and won't back off even after they say no? thank you sm!! I'm excited for the next chapters <33
Uh it is more than okay please request away! I hope this is okay I enjoyed writing this
Oda Sakunosuke: Oda is well aware the girls can take care of themselves, they’re more than meets the eye, but watching Tanaka try to make Higuchi swoon was getting increasingly more infuriating especially as she told him and quote “You aren’t my love go away” okay maybe a little more swearing blame the pinkette for that. As the Captain he felt he needed to step in- not to protect her no he has more faith in her than that but to steer her away and give a solid glare to the second year. Hopefully he gets the hint
Chuuya Nakahara: Chuuya has known Ryoko for a damn long time and he knows she’s pretty attractive, she’s tall, lean with light muscles and very smart what’s not to find at least cute. She’s got a mean streak and in honesty he’d probably leave her to deal with it but if it kept going and Tendo didn’t back off soon he was going to snap and use Corruption. Not unlike Oda he has faith in her but he’s also a cranky guy and that shits just plain annoying so good chance he’ll yell at them for not leaving her alone.
Osamu Dazai: Now while Dazai can seem aloof, crazy, bored or even high he’s actually very protective of the first years and Gin is like his little sister- sure he’s a bastard but it’s not like he has much say in what he does at the school. It was the middle of a game and Dazai was very ready to setter dunk the ball into Atsumu’s face. He may look calm and collected but if you look close enough you could see the gleam of irritation as he warned the opposing setter to stop before threatening to sick her brother on him.
Ichiyo Higuchi, Ryoko Fukami & Gin Akutagawa: while Higuchi and Ryoko don’t get along they are going to set aside their differences for things like this. Ryoko gets this shit enough Gin and Higuchi don’t need it either. Unlike the boys the girls threats are moreso promises- someone should really tell Yamamoto that before the knives come out to play because it looks like they are getting pretty mad- get the boys a throw down is about to occur!
Atsushi Nakajima: Atsushi can’t decide what’s worse seeing the girl you are crushing on (Gin) get hit on by Nishinoya or Higuchi trying to hit on the guy who doesn’t like you aka your crushes brother. Atsushi doesn’t like conflict so he’s more than likely going to get Ryunosuke and tell him what’s going on before going back, gently grabbing Gin’s hand and snickering as the second year rips into Nishinoya until his own team rushes over to see what’s wrong.
Ryunosuke Akutagawa: He doesn’t like people. That’s not a hardeharhar ey people suck okay maybe it is a little bit but he has no desire to have anything to do with relationships he’s still figuring himself out and he’s used to Higuchi’s pining but even still watching both her and his sister getting hit on by a couple boys from Itachiyama was making him fume. He’s definitely going to tell Dazai and ask if he can go use Rashoumon on them. He isn’t allowed to but at least he asked right? He’d wander over sneer very present on his face and not so kindly tell them to leave the girls alone.
Fyodor Dostoevsky: One might call him Ryoko Fukami’s best friend, (some have even suggested Chuuya was that) they tease and mock eachother and tolerate very little shit which makes them good teammates. Fyodor might be the manager and he might be a touch of a lazy bones but he’s efficient and on more than one occasion has threatened anyone from even daring flirt with Ryoko because unless you have genuine interest in her he finds it gross. Not that he cares (he does) if Oikawa happens to be scooting closer to her and invading her personal space and it’s not like he cornered him later before bed with threats and promises of missing body parts... I mean he told the coaches he was being odd Yep that’s it.
Junichiro Tanizaki: Junichiro might just be a first year but he is a big brother and the girls have in kind become sisters to him- we’ve seen how he is with Naomi in trouble now add Higuchi, Fukami and Gin into the mix you get psycho eyes. You know Hinata’s scary blank face yeah that on Junichiro what is this red heads are scary day? He’s used to seeing the girls get hit on on and off the court but it doesn’t make it any better especially if he can see when they start to get uncomfortable and he might just throw hands but you didn’t see anything.
And Bonus since Shiratorizawa’s manager Rika is also an OC
Shiratorizawa: Furious. She’s tiny and all those bastards are giants so imagine them standing around her while she’s getting more and more uncomfortable. She can defend herself yes but it gets overwhelming some days and let’s just say Ushijima is scary (we knew that) but did you know Semi was scarier?

Dreams Really Do Come True ~ Chapter 6
Dazai X Reader 💞
[Y/N] POV
"Your smile compliments a beautiful lady like you"
I knew that he would say such a thing to any women but it made feel relieved knowing it was the man who I thought I'll never meet "You really are him aren't you" I lightly laughed as he gently let go of me and helped me up. It really did feel like a dream as we stood in the frosty cold air. The clouds began to fade away revealing the bright ball of fire which slowly disappeared behind the chained fencing which separated us from the calm evening ocean waves. Looking over I spotted the sign "Danger no jumping" and once again I breathed a sigh of relief as I looked back at Dazai with a joyous look.
"Oh and here this is for you!" I handed over the plain white bandages to him.
"Thank you" He paused as he slid the bandages away into his large pocket as this coat was a little too oversized on his slim body.
"I really needed those bandages...ever since I got here I've had to wear this super warm coat and at times it's been driving me crazy but now because of this beautiful young lady I can finally take it off." Looking over at you he noticed that there was no element of surprise in your expression. "Hmmm I'm guessing that you already know why I've been wearing this coat." His hand wrapped around his soft silk hair as he spoke out those words.
Looking at him now he really did look otherworldly. He almost looked like a mystical statue. Maybe he was Medusa's lover.
"Oh by the way there has been something that I've been meaning to ask but what is your name beautiful? The curiosity is actually killing me!" His tone of voice changed into the goofier Dazai I knew from the detective agency. "I simply must know the name of the women who is simply perfect for a double suicide with me~"
I laughed as he spoke. "You don't have to flirt with me Dazai I know you do that with everyone but I do love this goofball version of you!"
Dazai looked at me with a surprised look "Oh so you know about how I flirt too? Haha well then what's your name?"
"Yes I do and my name is [Y/N] [Y/S]" I grinned as the heavenly artist behind me painted the sky in a gradient made up of pink, orange and blue as the sun collided with the peaceful sheet of water.
"[Y/N]? That's such a fitting name for you!~"
"Well [Y/N] chan~ would you like to..." he grabbed the Pier railing from both of my sides blocking off any possible exists keeping me at the centre. I could almost hear his steady heartbeat as he kept his cool despite being so close to a woman. He is a womanizer of course it's easy for him but it's not for me. He looked down at me with an intense serious expression.
"Tell me how do you know me [Y/N]? How much do you know?" I tried to move a little away from his face as I panicked. I always panic when I get confronted. "I...I..." Dazai noticed how I was trying to move away so he bought himself even closer. So close that I could see his handsome face in high definition. His hands gripped the railings tighter.
"[Y/N] answer me please." His eyes were determined to get answers from me. It almost felt like one of those interrogations he held back during the days of the dark era.
Nicole POV
"Feeeew she didn't figure out why I was truly here! Hahaha I tricked her" I spoke out proudly with a smirk on my face.
"That was a close one! I can't let her know that I am secretly a Bungo Stray Dogs fan or should I say that I am here to see a certain someone which is even worse"
My eyebrows lifted high into the heavens wiggling. I grinned to myself as I stood at the centre of the milk isle. "Wait why am I in the milk isle? Or should I say the mulk isle haha wow why am I laughing to myself."
"I really am a dumbass at times" as I spoke those words I started to return back to my more timid personality as I started to feel several pairs of eyes gazing at me. Are they judging me? Probably but that's just me isn't it. I tilt my head down to look at my phone to change the song into 'Together Forever by Rick Atsley'. I love listening to him he genuinely makes me feel good. I know I sound basic saying that but hearing him say that 'I will always do what's best for you' makes me all warm inside.
With a slow pace I headed for Rose De Jaune's famous pasta isle with my bright green shopping trolley. Why? Cause my favourite noodles were located there! I reached out to grab the brand which I would normally get with my mum. Honestly I am amazed that I managed to find this isle by myself. I normally follow my mum. Turning around I saw a man with messy black hair and emerald green eyes staring straight into my soul. "Oh my life he is so sexy!"
"..."
Did I just say that out loud?
I said that out loud???
What kind of dumbass am I??
I quickly looked back at my noodles nervously. My eyebrows wiggled without permission. I'm so embarrassing! *I slapped my eyebrows*
The sexy man watched me and couldn't help but laugh hysterically "Why are you slapping your eyebrows? You see I got lost while I was looking for my suicidal maniac friend and here I find you. You. Miss crackhead slapping her own eyebrows? Don't get me wrong." He moves in closer with an energetic smile staring right into my nervous wrecked face. "You are real pretty but you also seem a little funny...but what's even more important is that your grabbing the most finest noodles in town and I love those" he starts to hum a song as he thinks of those delicious noodles.
I began to feel more at ease as he mentioned those words "Yo-...You love noodles as much as me?" I asked shyly as I was speaking to such a perfect man. Sexy and he loves food? He is my ideal type. Looking back at him again I noticed him wearing a basic vanilla white t-shirt. Okay he is basic like me? Love that.
"Now then beautiful Miss" as he spoke he unwrapped the Cadbury chocolate which he was holding since the beginning of this encounter. He must have picked up those on the way to the pasta isle. Then he began to chomp into the bar of sweetness. I gasped. What is he doing? Why is he biting chocolate which he hadn't bought? I was too nervous to ask so all I could do was stand there with an expression full of shock.
"Have you seen my friend Osamu Dazai? He is a tall slender man with brown slightly wavey hair. He has also them typical bangs which frame the face and gather a little at the centre."
Wait.
What did I just hear?
Dazai?
Then could it be?
Could this be who I was looking for?
"Ranpo?" I accidently shouted out.
