Wait for Me
“Are you not enjoying yourself?” Sasuke whirls around to see the princess approaching, a shy smile on her lips and green eyes shimmering in the moonlight. They stand on the second-floor balcony, overlooking the East garden.
“I am, Your Highness. I only needed some air and wanted to collect my thoughts.” he replies.
“I’m glad to hear. I hope the people of Konoha have been kind to you thus far.” Sasuke only nods in response, making Sakura’s smile grow wider. “And please, as I’ve told you before, call me Sakura,” she says before turning her attention to the night sky.
Three weeks have passed since Sasuke came to the Land of Fire’s capital, and three weeks since he’s been taken in by the King and Queen. Coming to the Kingdom of Konoha under the guise of a traveler, even he couldn’t help but be enraptured by Sakura’s beauty, and overwhelming kindness and warmth. Conversing and spending more time with her only solidified his growing affections for her.
“For as much as I love parties and balls, I, too, find them suffocating at times,” she says, gaze never leaving the sky as she continues to speak. “This one more than others it seems.”
Gazing at the pink-haired princesses, Sasuke couldn’t help but notice the melancholic expression now painting her usual joyus features.
“Any particular reason?” However, based on the discussions he’s overheard tonight, he thinks he already knows the answer.
She sighs deeply, eyes lowering to the garden. “When I was a child, I imagined having this wonderful wedding alongside the love of my life. A handsome prince who would sweep me off my feet, and cherish me as much as I do him. Someone smart and protective, who only wants best for his people,” a small smirk forms on her lips. “Marriage for politics is not uncommon, as I’m sure you’re aware. My parents wed in order to bond the Land of Fire with the Land of Flowers. Even after learning of my betrothal to Prince Neji, I thought we could learn to love each other over time, although I suppose that was wishful thinking on my part.”
“You don’t love him?” Sasuke questions. From what he’s seen during his time in the palace, the young couple look like the perfect couple.
“Not for lack of trying,” she confesses. “But his heart already belongs to another.”
Following her line of sight, Sasuke sees two people having an intimate conversation in a private area of the garden, likely thinking no one would spot them. The guy he recognizes as Neji but the other, a woman with twin-buns, he doesn’t.
“TenTen works for the Hyuugas. From what I can tell, they’ve been in a secret relationship since before our engagement,” she informs him. “And to answer your earlier question, my upcoming nuptials was the topic of almost every conversation I had tonight. My soon-to-be loveless marriage. At least Neji and I have mutual respect towards each other, for which I’m grateful, but…”
“You’re not satisfied?” she hums in agreement.
“Something along those lines. I want him to be with the one he loves, and I want to be with someone who will love me.”
Would he be able to fill that void for her? Sasuke wonders. Could he make her as happy? If he came from a noble family, would they have met during one of her family’s infamous balls?
Once upon a time, the Uchiha name was well known across the lands, until a fateful night over 10-years ago, when Sasuke lost his whole family in a single night. In truth, Sasuke came to Konoha after learning someone fitting his elder brother’s description is staying in the kingdom.
The young princess happened to meet Sasuke after he saved her from a bear, earning her love in the process. When the King learned what happened, he invited the Uchiha to stay in the palace to show his gratitude.
While reserved and aloof when he first came to the kingdom, little by little Sakura broke down Sasuke’s barriers and wiggled her way into his heart.
However she believes he doesn’t feel the same way, although she knows it won’t make a difference since she’ll still have to marry Neji regardless.
“Sakura,” he says in a low tone, prompting Sakura to turn her head. Sasuke raises a hand to cup her face, brushing a calloused thumb across her smooth, soft skin, making the princess blush at the gesture.
She knows she should leave, that if someone were to catch them like this it will only cause trouble, yet Sakura can’t bring herself to care while she gets lost in his onyx irises, so full of desire. She wants this, she wants him, and now she knows he feels the same.
“Have you seen the princess? The queen is looking for her” One guard asks another from the ground-level. The voice stops both Sasuke and Sakura, just before their lips touch.
“No, but she cannot have gone far,” the other replies, and both return inside to continue their search.
Rationale returns to Sakura, and she steps out of Sasuke’s grasp and composes herself. “We should return to the party,” she drops her gaze, unable to look at him.
“Sakura –”
“It would be unfavorable if we were caught together, alone. We should part before someone finds us. I hope you enjoy the rest of the ball,” she turns to leave, but is caught by a strong hand on her wrist.
“Wait for me,” he tells her. Sakura turns her head and furrows her brows in confusion. “I…there’s something I must do. I came to Konoha in search of someone, and once I find them, once I make them atone for what they’ve done, we can be together.”
“It’s not so simple, Sasuke. I have a duty to my kingdom, my people. If I don’t marry Neji, his family may end our alliance,” she tries to pull away, but he only tightens his grip.
“I may not be a crowned prince, but I promise to cherish and protect you for as long as you’ll allow me.”
Sakura ponders for a moment, wondering if she could really run away with the man she’s fallen for. She doesn’t doubt Sasuke’s words, but can she leave her family and people behind for him? She thinks she might know the answer, but needs to consider every option before making a decision. Perhaps Neji will sympathize with her? She can only hope
“Can I think it over?” she asks. “It’s not that I don’t want to, but I need some time.”
The weight on Sasuke’s shoulders feels lighter with her response. “Yes, of course.” He lets go of her arm. “Thank you.”
She gives him a half smile, the same warmth returning to her cheeks as before. “Goodnight, Sasuke.” Turning around, Sakura walks away to return to the party.
Behind her, Sasuke tries to bite back a smile of his own. He came to Konoha with a clear goal in mind, and fell for the princess along the way.

Her sun - Kenna and Annelyse fanfic
Summary: Kenna ends up marrying Tevan. They are dear friends, and fond of each other, but this is just a diplomatic marriage, and they both see it that way. Annelyse has had feelings for Kenna for years, but never said anything. Seeing Kenna on her wedding day, preparing to go out to the aisle, Annelyse breaks down in crying. Kenna insist to know what’s wrong, and Annelyse ends up confessing her feelings. Will Kenna call off the wedding? Author’s note: This is an au for me, since I’m a hardcore Kenna x Raydan shipper. I haven’t seen many Kenna & Annelyse fanfics (I haven’t seen them at all, actually, although I gotta admit I never looked for them either), and so I’ve wanted to write one. In this fanfic, it’s clear Kenna has never had any relations with any of the LIs, besides “puppy love” with Dom. Sure, there was flirting, but she never pursued it more than that. For me, If she had a relationship, with any of them, she wouldn’t have married into a “loveless marriage”, which sets us in the place where Kenna could marry into a diplomatic marriage, with a worthy suitor – Tevan. I’m also a Kenna x Diavolos shipper, so I couldn’t choose him as the ‘diplomatic marriage’ contestant, since I can see Kenan falling for him. While I LOVE Tevan, My Kenna never really flirted or pursued any kind of relationship with him. So this made sense to me the best. Pairing: Kenna x Tevan, Kenna x Annelyse, slightly Tevan x Zenobia
Kenna was getting ready to go down the isle. Tevan should be already waiting. She wore the beautiful dress Annelyse insisted on making her, and looked dazzling as she twirled around the room, watching her reflection in the mirror. “Oh, Kenna… You look radiant.” She heard Annelyse’s voice behind her. Gracefully, Kenna turned around, and faced her. Smiling from ear to ear, Kenna beamed at Annelyse. “You think so?” She asked. “Defiantly.” Annelyse assured her, stepping into the room. “Ready for your big day?” She questioned Kenna.
Kenna nodded, settling on a chair in front of the mirror, letting Annelyse do her makeup. A few years ago, when they’d just started traveling together, Annelyse insisted on making Kenna dress up and put makeup on for all kinds of events, and Kenna would complain. She’d find it unnecessary and even annoying, but not anymore. She grew fond of that, and now whenever Annelyse suggest that, Kenna would agree enthusiastically. “Are you excited?” Annelyse finished working on her makeup, handing her red lipstick, to make her lips stand out. Kenna put on the lipstick, making sure not to cross the lines, and then looked back at Annelyse. Placing the lipstick down, she shrugged. “You know I don’t love him.” She told Annelyse, quietly. She wasn’t ashamed because of that, they both agreed on this. She liked Tevan, a lot. She respected him as a person and as a king. She grew fond of him, but didn’t love him, and neither did he love her. But they needed to marry, to provide successors, and to provide a sense of community between the kingdoms. Marriage between two of the kingdoms leaders would help ease the tension. While they were at a time of peace now, the people of the realm were so used to war. None of the main leaders were yet to marry, and Kenna hoped they’ll follow in their steps. “I’m fond of him, yeah, but this is a diplomatic marriage. Nothing more.” Kenna told her, with a genuine smile. Honestly, Kenna didn’t even hope she’ll fall in love with Tevan. Because she knew it won’t happen. She’ll love him as a person, as a dear friend, who happens to be her husband. She’s ready to have his kids, too. But it would be a loveless marriage. Exactly how it was supposed to be. Admittedly, if her mother was still alive, If Luther hadn’t killed her back when she tried to unite the kingdoms, and Kenna would have to choose from the suitors that were first presented to her, she might’ve chosen Tevan. Because he was the nicest amongst them. Yeah – He flirted with her immediately, and Kenna thought it was shallow, but over the years after saving him Kenna found out the depths of his character. He was a trusted ally and a dear friend. And now – he was going to be her husband. “I’m excited to take this step, and make my mother proud, I’d like to think she’s watching me from wherever she is, in the… afterlife.” Kenna explained. She was excited about getting married, but not about getting married to Tevan. “Oh. I see.” Annelyse’s voice broke a little, but a knock on the door distracted Kenna’s mind and she didn’t notice the waver in Annelyse’s voice. “Queen Kenna?” It was Jackson’s voice calling from the other side of the door. “Yes?” She replied. “Are you ready yet? The ceremony’s about to start.” He notified her. “In a moment!” She called back. “Very well.” Jackson said, and they could hear his steps walking away. “Well,” Annelyse tried to compose herself, but her voice was shaking once again. “You should go out there, you wouldn’t want to miss your own wedding day…-“ She teared up a bit. “Annelyse?” Kenna stood up. Annelyse didn’t notice, but Kenna had a worried look in her eyes. “Are you crying?” Kenna questioned. Annelyse was looking away, she didn’t realize when she started crying, but now there were tears rolling all over her cheeks. “Oh, yeah… I’m just…” Annelyse finally looked up at Kenna, blinking at her. She realized she made Kenna worry, and didn’t want to ruin her big day. “It’s just that you look so beautiful…” Annelyse excused. She did think that Kenna looked absolutely stunning, but it certainly wasn’t the reason she was crying. Kenna watched her, doubting her words. Finally, she stepped closer to Annelyse and collected her into her arms, hugging her tightly. Annelyse gave in, embracing Kenna back and sobbing into her shoulder. “Oh, Kenna…” She cried out. Kenna drew delicate circles on Annelyse’s back, comforting her. Until finally Annelyse calmed down. “Do you want to tell me what this is really about?” She asked, when she pulled away. Annelyse watched her in horror, knowing she couldn’t lie her way out of this. And neither did she want to. But confessing everything now? It would be too late… It would ruin whatever friendship she had with Kenna, Tevan, and possibly the entire realm. She might’ve exaggerated, but it wasn’t the right timing. And If Kenna marries today, she’ll never have the right timing, either. “Annelyse…” Kenna’s voice was soft, but demanding. “I can’t.” Annelyse let out, ignoring the lump in her throat. “Tell me. Is there anything I should worry about?” Kenna now insisted. “I’m not going out there until you tell me.” She added, and Annelyse sighed heavily. She just had to go in and ruin it, didn’t she? She couldn’t have stuck to her plan, to go in, congratulate Kenna, and send her off to her happy ending? She looked back at Kenna, who was serious about staying in until she tells her the truth. The good thing, was, Kenna didn’t realize her reasons. She thought ‘there was something to worry about’ whereas, this was nothing close to that. There was nothing wrong with her marriage to Tevan. Nothing, but the fact Annelyse couldn’t bear to watch the woman she was in love with getting married to another. “Kenna, there’s nothing wrong. Tevan is a great guy. I’m sure he’ll be a magnificent husband, and we already know he’s an outstanding king.” Annelyse still tried, not wanting to cause a scandal. “Annelyse, I’ve known you for quite some time. You’ve stood beside me through thick and thin. It wasn’t tears of joy you were crying, I could make out that much… If you have something to say… say it now.” Kenna told her, placing her hands on both of Annelyse’s shoulders. Something in her words made Annelyse wonder if Kenna did realize her feelings for her. “I…” She hesitated. Kenna had a warm look in her eyes, encouraging Annelyse to talk. Annelyse bit at her lip. “I’m in love with you.” She finally let out. “Have been, for a few years now.” She swallows. Kenna’s gaze wide on her. She’s surprised. Annelyse guesses she didn’t know about her feelings, after all. She starts regretting saying anything just as Kenna finally blinks the shock away. “Annelyse… You never said anything.” Kenna’s still processing. She never even suspected. She had traveled with the group for a few years, and had been engaged to Tevan for almost a year now. “I don’t know…” Annelyse looks away. “We always had something to do. Always had another war to win, another bridge to cross… I guess I never thought you’d give this thought. After all, you haven’t pursued a relationship with anyone else, either.” She starts saying. “I always hoped we might have a chance when the war would be over. But when it ended, and you beat that lightning witch, at the celebration that evening I wanted to tell you how I feel and went looking for you - I found you just as you proposed to Tevan.” Annelyse’s gaze fell. “Then I remembered seeing you sharing your wine and a kiss, and I thought maybe it was real. After some time of being engaged, you told me it actually wasn’t, but it was too late to confess it then. I guess it’s defiantly too late to confess it now, too.” Annelyse looked back at Kenna. Kenna had an expression Annelyse couldn’t make out. “Kenna, say something… please.” She pleaded. “Don’t tell me I ruined everything…” She begged. “We can still forget I ever said anything and you could go out there and marr-“ Annelyse started mumbling but Kenna shook her head. “You didn’t ruin anything, Annelyse. I just wish you’d told me sooner.” Kenna still had a considering look in her eyes. “Meaning…?” Annelyse tried to understand what that meant. “I’m go as far as saying I’m in love… But I always felt something special about our connection…” Annelyse watched in shock as the words came out of Kenna’s mouth. “You did?” She is awe. “It’s like…” Kenna scuffs back, smirking, unable to look at Annelyse as she says it. “It’s like I had this crush on you.” She tells her. “It’s ridiculous.” She says as she looks back at her. “But I figured it was just a silly crush and that you’d never repociate the same feelings.” Kenna explained. They were both screwed. “So… what does that mean? What are you going to do?” Annelyse took Kenna’s hand in hers. She couldn’t help but hope they’d still have a chance. Even though… it wasn’t the best situation to be stuck in. “Call off the wedding, obviously.” Kenna says without wavering. “But!” Annelyse’s eyes widen in shock. “This won’t look good! And you said you didn’t… love me… So,” Annelyse countered. “Since when do I care about how something looks?” Was Kenna’s first reaction. But then, she stepped closer, interlacing her fingers with Annelyse’s. “I said I wouldn’t go as far as saying I’m in love… Because I never considered it. I need more than imaginary scenarios in my head to fall for someone… But I defiantly feel something here.” She’s leaning in close. Annelyse can feel her warm breath on hers, and she leans in as well. They meet in a long awaited kiss. The touch of their lips is sweet, and soft, and way too brief. When Kenna pulls away, Annelyse pulls her right back into it, kissing this time with much more confidence. Kenna seems to like it, since she’s suddenly pushing Annelyse of the edge of the table she was sitting on, and into a nearby wall, pinning her against it. Annelyse was pulling at the fancy dress she made Kenna, not minding ruining its perfect fit, and Kenna replies with biting at her lip. That earns her a little gasp from Annelyse, and she lifts her up, still pinning her against the wall. Annelyse hooks her legs around Kenna’s waist, and they continue kissing until both are out of breath. Hands still all over each-other, Kenna tries to regain her breath, face resting in the crook of Annelyse’s neck. “I can’t believe what just happened.” Annelyse says, half in shock, half in bliss. “Me neither.” Kenna admits with a smile. “So… Are you sure?” Annelyse asks. “About calling off the wedding? You don’t have to do it for me.” Annelyse swallows, hoping Kenna would turn down this offer. “I’m sure. And I’m doing it for me.” She assured her. “I want to give us a chance.” She adds. They fix Kenna’s makeup and both finally get out of Kenna’s dressing room. Getting in the throne room, Annelyse blends in with the crowd, while Kenna give Jackson the signal. “Everyone, Quiet!” Jackson calls across the room. “I present you… Queen Kenna Rys of Stormholt!” He announces, and everyone erupts in cheering. Kenna walks quickly along the room, ‘down the isle’ as she should’ve, and stands next to Tevan. He gives a warm smile, but a suspicious look. “And now-“ Jackson starts saying, wanting to begin the delayed ceremony. “Before you start, Jackson… There’s something I have to say.” Kenna interrupts him. “Oh- I-“ He’s straddled, at first, but then recomposes himself and nods. “Queen Kenna Rys will speak now.” He declares, instead. “Thank you, Jackson.” She smiles, weakly, and turns to Tevan. “Tevan, you’re an amazing guy…” taking his hands in hers. “But I’m sorry. I can’t marry you.” The room falls silent. All the beaming in excitement faces in the crowd turned into shocked, puzzled, or upset ones. Tevan was quick to save the day, as he let out a loud “THANK GOD.” Making everyone turn their disbelieving gazes towards him. Including Kenna’s. “Thank god?” Kenna questioned, repeating his words. She even sounded slightly offended. “Kenna, I love you, but just as a person. And I was going to call off this wedding, too, if you hadn’t. You see, you wouldn’t have been yourself, if you had married me. Since I know you don’t love me, either. Not in a romantic way, at least.” He tells her, and she jumps on him in a hug. “Were you really planning on calling off the wedding?” Kenna asked, so only he can hear, as he twirls her around. “No. But I was saying the truth when I said you wouldn’t have been yourself. I know you want to do what’s right for the kingdom’s sake. But you deserve to do what’s right for you too. Besides, I can’t ignore the smeared lipstick traces on Annelyse’s lips.” He whispers an answer back, as he sets her down. Kenna blushes, shooting one quick glace to Annelyse. She thought they cleaned that up earlier, but probably not good enough. “We’re both sorry to have gathered you here today for nothing… We won’t be getting married today, but please, enjoy the party nonetheless.” Kenna announced, and the crowd shrugged, starting to scatter around the room and mingle. “I have to admit I had laid my eyes on someone else, too.” Tevan confesses to Kenna. “Who?” She asks, then follows his gaze to Zenobia. Kenna smirks. “I should’ve known.” She smiles at him. “What’s that supposed to mean?” He asks. “Nothing. Just that… You should talk to her.” She pushes him in Zenobia’s direction, and watches as he stumbles upon her and then apologizes, by kissing her hand. Zenobia’s face turn bright red, but she accepts the apology and offers Tevan to share a drink with her. He agrees and they take off. “Kenna,” Annelyse finds her, in the crowd. “Ready?” Kenna asks her, taking her hand. “Ready for what?” Annelyse’s confused, blinking at Kenna. “To get out of here, of course.” She pulls at her hand and Annelyse follows. “Of course.” She tells Kenna, and they make their way towards the exit. Once they’re out of prying eyes, Kenna starts running, Annelyse’s hand in hers. Annelyse joins in, smiling brightly as the sun. As they both run off to the sunset, they both know they’ll have to go back tomorrow. But not tonight. Everything will be different tomorrow. Annelyse helped her see and realized things that Kenna kept locked inside. And while watching Annelyse glistening in her gold dress, and bright smile, Kenna realizes that she might actually be the sun. The sun of her life.
