Varek/Sonja

Choses the pumpkin: Varek, initially, but Sonja starts choosing giant ones after getting into it.

Carves the pumpkin: Varek. Sonja doesn’t have the patience for it, so hers always come out looking sloppier, and then they get kicked off the table because let’s face it, Sonja can be pouty sometimes.

Gets scared and clings the other in a haunted house: …hahahaha lmao ok so the one time they went through a haunted house and they wound up scaring all the actors, crew, and other customers out, then had to ditch when the cops started showing up.

Matching costume idea: Sonja, definitely. Not because she likes it so much as because she always enjoys reminding the world that Varek is hers and she’s his.

Makes a cozy bed-fort to cuddle in: They don’t bother with beds, but if they did, Sonja would probably do it, and not really understand why, but Varek would indulge her.

Steal’s the other’s candy: They constantly steal each other’s candy. It’s a game of who can steal more from the other. Sonja usually wins, and she’s convinced - rather sulkily - that Varek is letting her. He’s not.

Accidentally gets lost in a corn maze: Sonja. And then she just shoves her way out. Again, no patience.

Tells spooky stories to scare the other: Neither of them, but Zo tries to sometimes, and they all just look at him blankly.

Collects cool-looking leaves: Sonja, absolutely. Varek doesn’t get it, but doesn’t say anything about it.

Honestly I feel Deucalion and Caleb Varek’s narratives (well Caleb’s movie narrative) have the same bullshit problem with where they go just in different ways, but it basically boils down to ‘oh look this one thing that caused them grief is gone let’s overlook all the lives they’ve taken and ruined and families they’ve destroyed’.

The big difference is Caleb’s arc was butchered by the studio financing the movie who wanted to force a bullshit happy ending into the movie whereas Deucalion’s arc came from the ‘brilliant’ mind of Jeff Davis.

I fucking hate it and I’ll tell you why.Actually, let’s look at this a different way. Let’s say you get married young, and get pregnant but along the way your husband disappears. Either he’s abducted or supposedly killed by intruders, or he leaves and dies mysteriously. So you stay with his family because you’re young and you don’t know where else to go, and you don’t want to raise your son alone.Now let’s say you’ve spent thirteen years dealing with your child being extremely sick on and off, while struggling to raise him on your own without using your husband’s family as a crutch. And then on the week of your son’s 13th birthday, this biker gang blows into town and starts shooting up the place, looking for your son so they can kill him. This is when you find out that your husband was a werewolf, his entire family are werewolves, and your son is a half-blood werewolf who is destined to end the entire werewolf species as a whole, and because of that, other werewolves want to kill him.And then you find out that this biker gang is being led by your supposedly dead husband, who fed on human flesh and embraced his inner wolf completely and never bothered coming back for you. And even after finding out that this child is his, he doesn’t stop. He and his gang launch an all out assault that ultimately results in not just the deaths of his biker pack, but his entire family as well. Even his older brother, who’s been more of a father to your son than your husband has, sacrifices his life to stop him. And fails. But when your husband tries to kill your son, something happens, and your son’s power triggers and removes his lycanthropy, leaving him as a broken, bleeding human.Do you:A. Leave him there to die.B. Shoot him in the head.C. Take him back into your arms and forgive him for everything immediately.Guess which one the movie does.Now in the script Rachel was going to go with Option A, and the only reason she doesn’t leave him there is because of her son. Also, in the movie Rachel seems to think that Caleb is redeemable when she finds out he’s alive, to the point that she seems obsessed with getting him back, and it’s not like that in the script at all. She fucking puts herself and her son in danger more than once in the movie because of this obsession.I mean, regardless of what their relationship was like when they were TEENAGERS, now Caleb Varek is a ruthless pragmatic Alpha who’s killed who knows how many humans and werewolves. This is a guy who murders his own mother. Oddly enough in the script his mother actually killed herself, so I don’t get why they changed it especially since the changes from script to movie were made to make Caleb more sympathetic, something the writers did not want. Ignoring the mother plot, one of the main things kept from script to movie is the fact that he abducts his niece, letting his pack torture the poor girl before forcing her to feed and sending her back so she’ll go rabid and kill his child for him. Every action he takes in the movie leads to the deaths of his ENTIRE family, and we’re supposed to just let him off the hook because he gets cured and becomes human at the end? Even moreso we’re supposed to get fuzzy feelings when Rachel takes his ass back?! HELL NO.Also, in the original script, CALEB KILLS RACHEL. He kills her in retaliation for her killing Sonja. Because in the script, she means absolutely nothing to him. With Timothy he briefly hesitates, but with Rachel he doesn’t at all. And what really gets me is how there are people out there that ship Caleb and Rachel as ROMANTIC, and when I say romantic, I don’t mean in a dysfunctional way, I mean there are people who think this is a happily-ever-after type relationship.Now granted, it’s slightly less offensive in the movie because Constantin Films decided in their infinite ‘wisdom’ to make it so Caleb, rather than going off to infiltrate in a war between werewolves and then giving in and becoming the very type of beast he went to hunt, was simply abducted and forced to feed. This was just done to make the ending more believable. It doesn’t work. Nothing about this pairing works, and nothing ever will.
