auld lang syne

been literal years since russ and i last spoke (my fault - i just left) but i thought i saw him at cakeshop and randomly dropped him a text. it wasn't him but that led to a 2 hour call (aft four years of no contact!!!!) where we shared highlights and made plans to hang when i was back in singa.

anw couple things in the call that made me realize again what a good man and friend he is and how i am so v lucky to be able to call him a homie:

he asked what i was doing in seoul, so i told him about my work with J - found out he loves J (how i never knew that is a mystery) so i said i'll get him tix to whichever show he wanted and show him what i do. his response? "scar, i rly dont care abt that - my priority is rather seeing you in april. everything else is an added bonus"

was also illogically worried and told him i put on weight since we last met. "i've known you since what - early uni? that doesn't matter to me."

told him v briefly abt what happened in 2022 and after the convo he said, "i wish i could've been there for you during your dark times" 🥺😭🥺😭🥺😭🥺😭

im walking home and theres the cronch cronch cronch of freshly fallen snow underneath my feet and i cant help feeling very grateful and happy and blessed that despite time and distance, our friendship picked up right where we left off. i am also so happy to hear his happiness and how he shared that with me despite me just ghosting for four years. instant forgiveness. this also made me think about all the friendships and people i may have pushed away or abandoned and well i am just going to say hi to everyone - i felt rly happy to know i am still cared for and so i want to do it for everybody i've neglected. i may not get a response (and that's okay bc i am not owed one) but I won't know til ive tried

"Glen Check" is one of my favourite k-indie bands, run by a super cool DJ called Kim June-one. And sometimes I listen to their records and think to myself "I hope I see him play live one day". And then I remember that I did, that night at Cakeshop with S---- and C--- (and V--- of course), one step ahead of being thrown out for filching shots from the (apparently not) abandoned booze bottles on tables upstairs.
