IPL 2018 Final Highlights: Watson hands Dhoni's Chennai a fairytale victory
Tumblr media
Chennai Super Kings beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets to win the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL 2018). It was a cake walk for the CSK players as they went past the projected score of 178 with 9 balls to spare.
A vintage Shane Watson knock gave CSK a fairytale IPL glory after missing out the tournament for two consecutive years due to a spot-fixing scandal. The Aussie's 117 out of 57 balls runs single-handedly won the game for CSK. He hit a magnificent century in the ultimate IPL match of the season.
Ambati Rayudu hit the winning runs with 9 balls to spare as CSK won the title for a 3rd time. CSK showed utter dominance over SRH as they beat them in all the four encounters they had in this year's edition.
The SRH bowlers failed to display the scintilating form that they carried through most of the tournament, except Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Raashid Khan, who showed some prowress against the Chennai brigade. While Bhuvi was the most economic, with an economy rate of just 4.25, Shakib Al Hasan, Siddharth Kaul, Sandeep Sharma conceded runs heavily as the CSK batsmen thrashed their way to victory.
Earlier Yusuf Pathan and Brathwaite picked up the pace in the death overs to add 42 runs pushing the SRH to a competitive 178/6 after being put in to bat first. With runs hard to come by initially, the pressure of making the full use of fielding restrictions resulted in Dhawan and Williamson going after the bowlers. Soon the duo raised fifty-run stand but the introduction of Ravindra Jadeja broke their association as a quicker bowled out Dhawan at 26.
At one stage, a score in the 190s looked a real possibility but Lungi Ngidi put that to rest, giving away only eight runs in the 19th over, despite a six off the last ball.

RR vs SRH Live Score: Rajasthan Royals lose Stokes and Samson quickly | Cricket News

RR vs SRH Live Score: Rajasthan Royals lose Stokes and Samson quickly | Cricket News
RR vs SRH: Live Blog | Live Scorecard * Bowling change: Shahbaz Nadeem comes into the attack 13 overs: RR 90/3 A wicket and just four runs off Rashid Khan in the over. Good one for Hyderabad. 12.1 overs: OUT! Rashid Khan cleans up Ben Stokes for 30. RR 86/3 BOWLED! Stokes’ struggling innings came to an end as he missed the ball entirely and it ricocheted off his pad onto the stumps. Stokes departed after scoring 30 off 32 balls which included just two fours. Two wickets in four balls will clearly have a big impact on Rajasthan’s total especially when the two were the set batsmen. Two new batsmen in the middle now. 12 overs: RR 86/2 Good finish to the over from Jason Holder, after conceding nine runs in his first three balls the tall West Indian took a wicket and bowled three dots. 11.4 overs: OUT! Jason Holder cleans up Sanju Samson for 36. RR 86/2 Big Wicket. Samson was looking to up the ante but he had just hit a big six in the previous delivery. This time Holder bowled a slow off-cutter and it castled the top of his stumps. Samson played a good knock tonight after a while, scoring 36 off 26 balls with the help of a six and three fours. He also added 56 runs for the second wicket with Ben Stokes. 11.3 overs: SIX! Sanju Samson (36*) smacks Jason Holder over deep mid-wciket for his second maximum. RR 86/1 * 50-run partnership between Ben Stokes (30*) and Sanju Samson (30*) – RR 80/1 in 11.2 overs 11 overs: RR 77/1 Brilliant over from Vijay Shankar at this stage, when batsmen are looking to up the ante with wickets in hand. Just three runs off it. 10 overs: RR 74/1 Another tidy over from Rashid Khan, six runs off it without a boundary. Time-Out! 9 overs: RR 68/1 11 runs off T Natarajan’s over as Sanju Samson (28* off 20) started it with a four over mid-wicket. Samson looked in good touch today. 8 overs: RR 57/1 DROPPED! Ben Stokes (19*) got a life off the final delivery as Vijay Shankar dropped a running catch at deep mid-wicket. Rashid Khan was the unlucky bowler. The spinner though started with a tidy over, conceding just four runs in it. * More bowling change: Rashid Khan comes into the attack 7 overs: RR 53/1 Good start from T Natarajan too as he gave away just six runs in it without conceding a boundary. * 50 comes up for RR in 6.3 overs – 51/1 * Change from both ends: T Natarajan comes into the attack 6 overs: RR 47/1 End of Powerplay. Good start from Vijay Shankar, gave away just four singles in it. * Bowling change: Vijay Shankar comes into the attack 5 overs: RR 43/1 10 runs off Sandeep Sharma over as Sanju Samson (10*) smacked two consecutive fours in it. 4.5 overs: FOURS! Sanju Samson (10*) also opens his boundary count with back-to-back fours off Sandeep Sharma. Two classy boundaries from a class batsman. RR 43/1 4 overs: RR 33/1 The over started with back-to-back fours, but Jason Holder ran Robin Uthappa out with a direct hit at non-striker’s end. Rajasthan scored 11 runs off the over though. 3.3 overs: OUT! Robin Uthappa run out for 19. RR 30/1 What just happened? Uthappa went too far down after the ball cramped Ben Stokes and fell near his off stump. Jason Holder picked the ball on his follow through and turned back to hit the stumps at non-striker’s end. Uthapa could not return in time and was nowhere near his crease. A promising start came to an abrupt end for Rajasthan opener. Uthappa hit a six and two fours in his 13-ball cameo. 3.2 overs: FOURS! Ben Stokes (11*) opens his boundary count with back-to-back fours off Jason Holder. RR 30/0 3 overs: RR 22/0 After hitting a six early in the over, Robin Uthappa (19*) charged out to smack a confident four towards long-on off the final delivery of Sandeep Sharma’s over. 13 runs came off it. Good one for Rajasthan. 2.3 overs: SIX! Robin Uthappa (14*) smacks Sandeep Sharma over square leg for the first maximum of the night. RR 16/0 2 overs: RR 8/0 Jason Holder started his spell with four straight dot balls, but was hit for a four off the last delivery by Robin Uthappa (8*). Six runs from the over. * Jason Holder to share the new ball with Sandeep Sharma 1 over: RR 3/0 Good, tidy start from Sandeep Sharma, gave away just three singles in it. Here we go…Ben Stokes and Robin Uthappa to start the RR innings. Sandeep Sharma with the ball for SRH. Uthappa on the strike. Playing XIs: Sunrisers Hyderabad: David Warner (c), Jonny Bairstow (w), Priyam Garg, Manish Pandey, Vijay Shankar, Abdul Samad, Jason Holder, Rashid Khan, Shahbaz Nadeem, Sandeep Sharma, T Natarajan Rajasthan Royals: Ben Stokes, Robin Uthappa, Sanju Samson (w), Steve Smith (c), Jos Buttler, Riyan Parag, Rahul Tewatia, Jofra Archer, Shreyas Gopal, Ankit Rajpoot, Kartik Tyagi TOSS | Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper David Warner wins toss, opts to bowl against Rajasthan Royals in Dubai Captains at the toss: Steve Smith: “The wickets are getting older and older, slowing down late in the game. I was looking to bat. Not anymore, you get used to it (playing against Warner). We have been playing IPL for a long time now. It’s part of the world. We are fortunate to be involved in such a great tournament. It was a good win the other night (against CSK). Our bowlers did an outstanding job and Jos was playing on a different wicket. We are heading in the right direction, playing good cricket for large chunks of the game. We need to close it out. You got to play well to make it to the finals and you need to peak at the right time. We are getting some right form together and hopefully we can put on a good show tonight. Same team.” David Warner:“We are gonna bowl. I don’t think too much is going to change. The last game here, it held up a bit more in the first half of the game. It came on quite nice in the back end. We just have to wait and see. It’s alright, we get another game today (when he was told that his team hasn’t been successful while chasing). He’s (KW) done something to his quad, that’s unfortunate. We have the big man Holder coming in. Nadeem is in for Thampi. It’s been tough not to include him (Holder) in the team before. Things have changed and we have to try something different. I am always nice and calm. After a couple of losses, I was a bit edgy, now have had time to relax and gather my thoughts. It’s quite difficult in the bubble. For us, it’s about coming out and putting our best foot forward.”

LATEST NEWS | Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Kane Williamson has been ruled out due to injury Pitch Report: “It’s a great surface, it’s the same surface that they played on the last game. The groundsman has done a fantastic job. There’s a bit of grass on top, but it’s dry and hard underneath. The teams won’t be too worried about it. This pitch, under lights, has quickened up a little bit. Little bit of dew settling in, not heavy to notice, but quickening up the pitch enough for the batsmen to have enough pace to execute their strokes and maybe making the outfield little bit faster. It’s not a bad thing to chase. If you are batting first and if you are not getting the pace off the pitch, don’t fight in. Settle in, rotate strike and pick your areas against the poor balls.” – Kumar Sangakkara Hello and welcome to the live coverage of Match 40 of the Indian Premier League 2020 between Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad in Dubai. STATS THAT MATTER * SRH haven’t won a game while chasing this season, losing on all four occasions * Since his two back-to-back fifties at the start of the season, Sanju Samson has only scored 77 runs in eight innings, at an average of 9.6.

Shibapratim Bagchi | IPL 2018, SRH vs CSK, Qualifier 1 Highlights: Chennai Register 2-wicket Win Over Hyderabad to Enter Final
NEW DEHI: Faf du Plessis (67 not out) scored a match-winning half-century to help Chennai Super Kings reach their seventh Indian Premier League final on Tuesday. The two-time champions defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by two wickets in a low-scoring thriller at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Scorecard | As it happened CSK will now play the summit clash on Sunday, whereas Sunrisers have to face the winners of the Eliminator between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 for the second shot at the final on Friday. Du Plessis completed the run chase with a six as CSK chased down the 140-run target in 19.1 overs. The South African remained unbeaten on 67 off 42 balls, which included four sixes and five fours, and added 27 runs off 8 balls with Shardul Thakur (15* off 5 balls). Defending a modest total, Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave Sunrisers an early breakthrough by removing Shane Watson (0) in the first over. Suresh Raina though came out all guns blazing as he smacked three consecutive fours off Sandeep Sharma's first three balls in the second over. But the introduction of Siddarth Kaul in the fourth over changed the scenario upside down as the pacer clean bowled Raina and in-form Ambati Rayudu (0) in consecutive balls to reduce CSK to 24/3 in 3.4 overs. Raina scored 22 off 13 balls with the help of four boundaries. The situation worsened for CSK when they lost skipper MS Dhoni (9), who missed a wrong 'un from Rashid Khan, in the 8th over with just 39 runs on the board. CSK reached 50/4 at the halfway mark and needed 90 more off the final 10 overs. Rashid then removed Dwayne Bravo (7) in the 12th over, before Sandeep dismissed Ravindra Jadeja in the next over to leave CSK at 62/6 in 12.3 overs. Du Plessis though kept CSK in the hunt from the other end as he stitched a valuable 30-run stand in 2.3 overs with Deepak Chahar (10) to take the score to 92/7 in 15 overs. Du Plessis then completed his fifty off 37 balls with the help of three sixes and three fours, while clobbering 20 off Brathwaite in the 18th over and changed the equation to 23 off 12 balls. Shardul scored three fours off Siddarth Kaul as 17 came from the penultimate over to make the equation a comfortable six off the final over, which du Plessis did in just one ball. Earlier, the CSK bowling attack utilised the lively pitch to the fullest as they restricted Sunrisers to a modest 139/7. Carlos Brathwaite (43* off 29 balls), skipper Kane Willamson (24) and Yusuf Pathan (24) were the useful contributors for Sunrisers on a track that offered good bounce. CSK pegged back Sunrisers at 47/3 after six Powerplay overs with both Williamson and opener Shikhar Dhawan (0) back in the dugout. Dhawan played on off Deepak Chahar in the very first delivery of the match. Williamson, in red-hot form in the season, then produced three hits to the fence off the last three balls in the same over. From the other end, Lungi Ngidi packed off the other opener Shreevats Goswami (12) by accepting a smart return catch, when the batsman tried to pull. At 34/2, Sunrisers slipped further when Williamson feathered a catch down leg-side ball off Shardul Thakur to rival captain Dhoni to leave Hyderabad reeling at 36/3 in 4.2 overs. CSK, attempting to make it to their seventh final in nine seasons that they have been part of IPL, struck another blow just past the Powerplay period. Shakib Al Hasan (12) also fell to a leg-side catch by Dhoni off Dwayne Bravo (2/25) and it left Sunrisers at 50/4. After 10 overs, the score was a modest 64/4. A late flurry from West Indian Brathwaite, who slammed Thakur for four huge sixes and a four in death overs, boosted the total significantly.

CSK vs SRH: Young Indian batsmen shine in Sunrisers Hyderabad's win, MS Dhoni fails to finish game for Chennai Super Kings again | Cricket News
New Post has been published on https://jordarnews.in/csk-vs-srh-young-indian-batsmen-shine-in-sunrisers-hyderabads-win-ms-dhoni-fails-to-finish-game-for-chennai-super-kings-again-cricket-news/
CSK vs SRH: Young Indian batsmen shine in Sunrisers Hyderabad's win, MS Dhoni fails to finish game for Chennai Super Kings again | Cricket News
DUBAI: There was no end to Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings‘ woes as former India captain yet again struggled to take his side past the finish line, falling short by seven runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad in an IPL match on Friday. HIGHLIGHTS | SCORECARD CSK controlled the first innings for a large part before youngsters Priyam Garg (51 not out) and Abhishek Sharma (31) lifted SRH to a competitive 164 for five after electing to bat.
Just the kind of performance that makes you want to whistle 🧡#CSKvSRH #OrangeArmy #KeepRising https://t.co/UuygEdg90p
— SunRisers Hyderabad (@SunRisers) 1601662036000
Their top guns not contributing much, former India U-19 World Cup skipper Garg scored his maiden IPL fifty and with Abhishek raised a 77-run stand for the fifth wicket. SRH collected 53 runs in the last four overs to make it a contest. Playing a record 194th IPL game, the stage was set for Dhoni to silence his critics but all he could manage was 47 runs off 36 balls as CSK fell short.

— Chennai Super Kings (@ChennaiIPL) 1601662268000
Coming to bat at number five, Dhoni had enough balls at his disposal, a manageable target and trusted aide in Ravindra Jadeja (50) for company but again his attack came too late. It was Jadeja who took CSK closer to the target before getting out while Dhoni struggled in their 72-run stand for the fifth wicket. Except for a few hits, Dhoni struggled to time the ball. He also lost steam towards the end, having batted in hot conditions for over an hour. He hit Khaleel Ahmed for a massive six in the 19th over, which had to be completed by him because Bhuvneshwar Kumar hurt his leg after bowling just one ball.
That was a nail-biting game here in Dubai. @SunRisers win by 7 runs.#Dream11IPL #CSKvSRH https://t.co/TFKp2Uz5kP
— IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) 1601661894000
CSK needed 28 runs from the final over and skipper David Warner handed the ball to 18-year-old J and K spinner Abdul Samad. It was a gamble which paid off. Samad started with a wide that yielded CSK a boundary but held his nerves to see his side through. SRH spinners, specially Rashid Khan deserve the credit for the win. The Afghan was, as usual exceptional, as he choked CSK with his well-measured deliveries. He did not get a wicket but conceded only 12 runs his four overs. It was third defeat in a row for CSK in four matches, one of the worst starts for the three-time champions.
The legacy of Dhoni tells you to keep believing. Even when he’s visibly physically spent and isn’t timing the ball… https://t.co/eaNj9NDhH9

Not only a quick start eluded CSK, they lost three quick wickets — Faf Du Plessis (22), Shane Watson (1) and Amabati Rayudu (8). The Indian pace trio of SRH — Bhuvneshwar, T Natarajan and Khaleel — kept the rivals under pressure. Bhuvneshwar sent back Watson (1) while Natarajan spoilt the comeback of Rayudu (8). Garg after a splendid knock, effected Du Plessis run out. Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan choked the runs with ever-reliable leg-spin while Jammu and Kahsmir’s Abdul Samad got rid of Kedar Jadhav (3).
Great win by @SunRisers full credit to the youngesters of the team. As for #csk they started accelerating too late… https://t.co/AKEQpuCEri

CSK needed 96 runs from the last six overs and some quick runs upfront would have helped them. After struggling in their initial matches, CSK brought Ambati Rayudu, Dwayne Bravo and Shardul Tahakur for Friday’s game. That CSK came into the match rejuvenated following a one-week break was evident with the way Deepak Chahar (2/31) troubled the SRH batsmen with his swinging deliveries. Sam Curran too showed control. Chahar was rewarded for his effort when he deceived Jonny Bairstow (0) with an in-swing ball that uprooted his stumps. Manish Pandey (29) was in good touch as he timed the ball nicely when pitched up and did not hesitate to play lofted shots while Warner worked the ball around. They managed 42 runs off the Powerplay overs. Pandey drove straight to Curran at mid-off off Thakur. Realising that time is ticking away, Warner tried to look for big shots but fell when Du Plessis, jumped perfectly to catch him near the boundary ropes. To make it worse for SRH, Kane Williamson (9) was run out next ball in a mix up with Garg. The responsibility to carry the team forward fell on the young shoulders of Garg and Abhishek, who did not disappoint. That Abhishek is talented is already known and the southpaw further enhanced his reputation with some confident and cracking shots. Garg too found his touch as he spent time at the crease and went on to score his maiden IPL fifty.

IPL 2019 Eliminator highlights: Pant heroics helps DC beat SRH by 2 wickets
Tumblr media
In Eliminator of VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL 2019), Young Keemo Paul gave the final touches to a Rishabh Pant blitzkrieg as Delhi Capitals (DC) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by two wickets in a nerve-wracking IPL match at Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday. Chasing a target of 163, Delhi Capitals, who had lost the way after a blazing start, were brought to cusp of victory by young Pant, who smashed 49 off 21 balls with five sixes as West Indies' Paul finished it off the penultimate ball of the innings with a boundary off Khaleel Ahmed. Pant, who resurrected the innings from a precarious 111 for 5 couldn't have chosen a better venue than chairman of selectors MSK Prasad's home ground to drive home a point on his much debated World Cup exclusion. It was a sense of deja vu for Paul, who had similarly hit winning runs in an U-19 World Cup final in 2016 when Khaleel was the bowler in the final over. Delhi Capital now face Chennai Super Kings in the second Qualifier in their bid to make it to the maiden IPL final against Mumbai Indians. Needing 34 from three overs, Pant showed brilliant game awareness to target Sunrisers' weakest link Basil Thampi, smashing him for 21 runs in the 18th over as he brought the game on even keel. A six off Bhuvneshwar Kumar brought the equation down to five runs before Pant in his bid to finish the game was holed out with five required from seven balls.

When the chase started, Prithvi Shaw (56 off 38 balls) was in his element in the fifth over bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar when he first played a flowing cover drive, followed by a ramp shot for six over third man and a lofted boundary over mid-off to put Sunrisers on the backfoot.

Mumbai: The 51-day long T20 carnival has finally reached its climax as two-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad will face-off in the summit clash of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Wankhede stadium here on Sunday.
Scorecard: CSK vs SRH, IPL Final 2018 | Playoffs fixtures & Results | Final Standings | Full Coverage
While Chennai, the two-time IPL champions, already made to the final beating Hyderabad by two wickets in the Qualifier 1 of the cash-rich league here on Tuesday, Hyderabad had to go through the second qualifier.
The Kane Williamson-led side overcame Kolkata Knight Riders' challenge by 14 runs at the Eden Gardens on Friday to seal a place in the coveted final.
Both the sides have met each other thrice in the ongoing edition of the league and the Super Kings hold a 3-0 record over their southern neighbours.
In the much awaited final on Sunday, which could also be seen as a southern derby, it will be clash between Hyderabad's bowling and Chennai's batting.
With the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rashid Khan and Siddarth Kaul, the orange army boasts of a superb bowling attack whereas the yellow brigade is full of star-studded batting line-up comprising Shane Watson, skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Ambati Rayudu, Suresh Raina and others.
For Chennai, each of the batsman had rose to the occassion whenever their side needed.
The yellow brigade have been on a roll since making their comeback to the IPL fold after serving a two-year-ban, and have rarely lost the momentum this season with the old guards and new sensations firing in unison.
In their final league game at their adopted home ground in Pune on last Sunday, CSK rode on Suresh Raina's gutsy half century to romp home by five wickets.
Later, in the Qualifier 1, a match where most of the Chennai batsmen faultered against Hyderabad, opener Faf du PLessies smashed a match-winning half-century to help Chennai reach their seventh IPL final on Tuesday.
Rayudu, the other opener in Chennai's side, has been the standout performer with 586 runs. Australian Watson has also been in top form, accumulating 438 runs from 13 matches, while Raina, skipper Dhoni and all-rounder Deepak Chahar have been the backbone of CSK's middle order.
In the bowling front, the former two-time champions will bank on young South African lungi Ngidi, who has 6 wickets from 10 games with a decent economy rate of 5.90.
With Shardul Thakur, Chahar and Dwayne Bravo doing their bit on the pace bowling front, CSK will hope for veteran Harbhajan Singh leading the spin attack with left-armer Ravindra Jadeja in the middle overs.
Coming to Hyderabad, the orange army's success mostly bank on their bowling which has a lot of variety and some of the best names in the business.
Afghan spinner Rashid has been brilliant throughout the season bagging 21 wickets from 16 games.
The leggie came up with a sensational figure of 3/19 against Kolkata last night apart from a quick-fire cameo of 34 from just 10 balls.
Rashid had also troubled Chennai in the first qualifier with figures of 2/11.
On the batting front, top scorer of the tournament Williamson has led from the front. The New Zealand skipper, rated as one of the best batters of the current generation, has so far amassed 688 runs in 16 games at an average of 52.92.
Williamson has also led admirably on the field.
Opener Shikhar Dhawan has also been good, amassing 471 runs from 15 games and Hyderabad's opening will mostly rely on him.
The middle-order however, needs to find their touch for one final time in the league as Manish Pandey, Wriddhiman Saha, Shakib Al Hasan and Yusuf Pathan have failed to live up to the expectations.
It will also be interesting to see whether Yusuf gets a chance in the playing XI in the mega final as the Baroda right hander has failed miserably in the present season, with just 215 runs from 15 games.
Overall, it could be another edge-of-the-seat match on a Super Sunday for fans when the two best teams of this year's league square-off for one final time.
