Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)

CISR holds a national level joint CSIR-UGC Examination (NET) in December, for determining the eligibility of Indian national candidates for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and for determining eligibility for appointment of Lecturers in certain subject areas falling under the faculty of Science. Note: In Column No. 9, of the application form, a candidate should fill Code No. 1 for JRF +LS and 2 for Lectureship only, as the case may be. CSIR may put candidates of category 1 to category 2 depending on a number of fellowships available. Also See: Scholarships 2019

Subject Code and Conditions of Eligibility: Name of the Subject Areas Subject Code Chemical Sciences 1 Earth, Atmospheric Ocean & 2 Planetary Sciences Life Sciences 3 Mathematical Sciences 4 Physical Sciences 5 Educational Qualification: (i) M.Sc or equivalent degree with minimum of 55% for General & OBC candidates and 50% for the SC/ST candidates in the subject mentioned above or any related subjects. (ii) A candidate who is appearing/has appeared in the final year of M.SC/ equivalent examination, during the session can also apply for the Test. Such candidates will have to submit the attestation format (given in the end of application) duly certified by the Head of the Deptt./Institution over his/her signature and rubber stamp (with address and name) where he/she is appearing in the final year exam. 

However, such candidates will be considered eligible for JRFs/LS only after they submit the proof of having passed the Master’s Degree examination with at least 55% marks in case of candidates belonging to General & OBC Categories & 50% marks in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST categories in the relevant or related subject. This must be submitted latest by a date of June. Age Limit: The age limit for admission to the eligibility test is as under: (a) For JRF (NET): Minimum 19 years and maximum 28 years (upper age limit relaxable upto 5 years in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC, Physically Handicapped and Female applicants). (b) For LS (NET): Minimum 19 years. No upper age limit. Scheme and Date of the Test: The test will consist of two papers to be as under: Paper 1-Marks 200, Duration: 2 ¼ hours ; Paper II-Marks 200, Duration: 2 ½ hours. Scheme of Test: Paper I: Paper I will consist of 2 parts. Section A will consist of 30 questions on general information on Science and its interface with Society to test the candidates awareness of science, aptitude for scientific research and quantitative reasoning and also a few questions from common elementary computer science. Section B will consist of 70 objective type questions from the subject area chose by the candidates. Negative marking will be there for wrong answers. Paper II: Paper II will consist of number of question requiring descriptive answers (of maximum one page length). The candidate is required to answer a specific number of questions ranging from 10 to 16 in his opted subject. Notifications for the programme are normally published in Employment News in the month of February and July-August.

NCCS PhD Admission 2021 August Session Notification. Postgraduate students with a valid qualification are eligible to apply for PhD Admission August 2021 at National Centre for Cell Science, Pune. Check out all of the details on the same below:

NCCS PhD Admission August 2021 Programme

NCCS, Pune, invites applications from eligible candidates for admissions to the Ph.D. programme of the August-2021 session. The candidates should be bonafide Indian citizens, having a consistently good academic record with strong motivation to pursue research in modern biology leading to a Ph.D. degree and with eligibility mentioned below should apply for the same.

Students with a post-graduate degree and having valid fellowship from CSIR/ UGC/ DBT (Category I)/ICMR/ BINC, all are eligible to apply.

DST-Inspire qualified students with NET-LS or GATE are also eligible to apply.

Students with post-graduate degrees, who do not have a fellowship but have qualified JGEEBILS examination conducted by NCBS/TIFR held on 08th December 2019 are eligible to apply. However, candidates who are shortlisted by NCCS criteria will only be called for an interview.

A limited number of fellowships will be provided by NCCS to the selected students, who do not have fellowship (from CSIR/DBT/ICMR/UGC/DST-Inspire/BINC) but have qualified JGEEBILS and are selected by NCCS. Submission of application to the NCCS-PhD programme does not automatically guarantee that a candidate will be shortlisted for an interview.

Shortlisted candidates fulfilling NCCS criteria will have to appear for an online interview to be held at NCCS on 22nd, 23rd and 24th June 2021. Detailed eligibility conditions are given hereunder.

Eligibility For NCCS August PhD Programme:

Should have Masters (postgraduate) degree in any branch of Sciences with interest in pursuing research in Modern Biology, having at least 55% or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) (A relaxation of 5% of marks, shall be allowed for SC/ST/OBC and Persons With Disabilities) and with a valid fellowship from CSIR/UGC/ DBT/ICMR/ BINC, etc. OR DST-Inspire with NET-LS or GATE.

Students with post-graduate degrees, who do not have individual fellowship but have qualified JGEEBILS exam conducted by NCBS/TIFR on 08th December 2019 will be eligible to apply. Students will be shortlisted based on JGEEBILS results by NCCS criteria for interview. NCCS’s decision in this regard will be final. Please write your JGEEBILS December 2019 Reference Code on the top of the application form at the designated place.

How to Apply

1) Candidates who have qualified only for Lectureship in CSIR-UGC (NET) and the “Project List of ICMR” are not eligible.

2) NCCS’s Ph.D. programme is a residential programme. The selected candidates may have to stay on campus.

3) All the eligible complete applications received within the last date will be screened and shortlisted candidates will be called for interview as per the schedule given.

4) Other terms and conditions of the fellowship will be directed by the funding agency awarding the fellowship. The upper age limit for JRF shall be 28 years which is relaxed up to 5 years in the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/Women/PWD and 3 years in case of OBC candidates, or as applicable.

5) Fellowship will be activated as per the respective funding agencies’ guidelines on Direct Benefit Transfer basis. NCCS will not be responsible for providing.

6) Reservation will be as per Government of India guidelines.

7) SC/ST/OBC candidates should also attach a true copy of the Caste Certificate / Latest non-creamy layer certificate along with the application and originals that should be produced at the time of the interview.

8) Kindly mention “Application for Ph.D. — August 2021 Session” in the subject of the e-mail.

9) The complete application form (download from NCCS website) along with the copies of the M.Sc. marks statement and Fellowship certificate/admit card should be sent by e-mail to phdadmission@nccs.res.in (One PDF file containing application in the prescribed format along with certificates) on or before 21st May 2021.

In case of any queries, candidates should e-mail at phdadmission@nccs.res.in. Phone inquiries will not be entertained.

Interviews:

Online interviews will be held at NCCS, Pune of all shortlisted candidates as per the selection criteria set by NCCS. Details of the interview process will be published on the NCCS website along with the list of shortlisted candidates on 07th June. 2021.

National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health, Mumbai, is a leading institute of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). The Institute invites online applications for admission in the Ph.D. programme from highly motivated candidates with consistently strong academic records.

The thrust areas of research include Fertility Regulation, Infertility and Reproductive Disorders, HIV/STIs/RTIs, Maternal and Child Health, Immunology and Microbiology, Reproductive cancers, Osteoporosis, Genetic Disorders, Stem Cell Biology, Structural Biology, Bioinformatics and Reproductive Toxicology. The Institute is affiliated to the University of Mumbai for the award of Ph.D. degree in Life Sciences, Applied Biology and Biochemistry.

WHO CAN APPLY:

1) Candidates who are Indian citizen and having Postgraduate degree in any branch of Life Sciences (Biochemistry/ Biotechnology/ Microbiology/ Zoology/ Bioinformatics/ Biophysics etc.) or MBBS or MD degree from India with at least 60% or equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) from higher secondary (10+2) onwards for General, OBC and #EWS category and 55% for SC/ST/Persons with Disabilities (PWD) candidates in aggregate (or equivalent grade).

In case CGPA is not based on a 10 point scale candidate should provide a statement issued by the respective University indicating conversion of CGPA to percentage.

Candidates, who have appeared in the academic year 2019-2020 and results are awaited, are also eligible to apply. However, such candidates will have to submit the proof of qualifying marks before joining the Institute. Kindly note that registration for Ph.D degree at Mumbai University will happen only after fulfilling the eligibility criteria of Mumbai University.

AND

2) The candidates should have cleared at least one of the following exams

Either

Ph.D. entrance test (PET) conducted by the University of Mumbai in the subjects of Life Science/ Applied Biology/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology/ Zoology/ Biophysics/ Bioanalytical Sciences/ Molecular Biology.

OR

CSIR-UGC NET (JRF or LS) or GATE (Life Sciences/ Biotechnology) or JRF examination conducted by national agencies such as ICMR/DBT or SET (Life Sciences/Microbiology/Biotechnology/ Biochemistry)

OR

Valid DST-Inspire fellowship

Please note #: EWS (Economically Weaker Section) vacancies are tentative and subject to further direction/clarification of GOI and are subject to the outcome of any litigation pending in the court of law. The candidates seeking reservation under EWS should fulfill the criteria as prescribed by the Government of India. The benefit of reservation under EWS can be availed upon production of an Income and Asset Certificate issued by a Competent Authority.

AGE LIMIT:

The upper age limit is 28 years as of 11th January 2021 for the General and EWS Category. Age relaxation of up to 5 years (33 years) for SC/ST/ PWD/Women candidates and up to 3 years (31 years) for OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates will be granted.

Reservation will be as per the UGC rules followed by the University of Mumbai.

HOW TO APPLY:

Application form available at the NIRRH website (www.nirrh.res.in) http://www.phdappli.nirrh.res.in should be duly filled and submitted online on or before 11th February 2021. A hard copy of the application need not be submitted to the Institute. Only duly filled online applications will be considered.

APPLICATION FEES

General and OBC Category: Rs. 300/- plus Transaction Charges as applicable (Non-refundable)

SC/ST/PWD and EWS: Exempted from payment of fees

Application fees which is Non-refundable has to be deposited by using net banking facilities (NEFT/IMPS). Additional charges will be applicable as per the rule of the concerned bank. Fees will not be accepted through any other mode. Applications without payment of required fees will be considered incomplete and disqualified.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:

The names of the short-listed candidates along with date and time for the interview will be displayed on the NIRRH and ICMR website. The list of Ph.D. guides (who have vacancy for Ph.D. students in their laboratory) and tentative title of research project to be initiated under them would be given to the shortlisted candidates. Final selection would be based on the performance in the online interview.

FELLOWSHIP:

The selected candidates, who have passed the JRF examination conducted by CSIR/UGC/ICMR/DBT can avail fellowship as per the rules of respective funding agency. Non-fellowship holders will be provided an Institutional fellowship of Rs. 8000/- per month which will be initiated only after successful completion of coursework and Ph.D. proposal presentation. It will be for 2 years only and later these students are encouraged to seek fellowship from other funding agencies.

HOSTEL:

Women candidates selected for Ph.D may avail Hostel facility upon request

NIRRH reserves the right to change the minimum eligibility criteria in case of receipt of large number of applications. The decision of the Director and Selection Committee will be final and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard. Canvassing in any form and/or bringing in any influence will be treated as disqualification. No traveling allowance shall be provided by the Institute at any stage of the admission process.
