Ariel (The Little Mermaid)

Here’s the college list for another classic Disney character (and favorite of Lin-Manuel Miranda, who is becoming almost as recognizable). Okay, Ariel, you wanted to live like a human? Let’s see where you would want to be educated like one.

Location: Although desperate to "see where the people are," I don't think Ariel would want to be too far away from the beach (or the ocean, at least): she still likes her family even though she rejects their way of life, right? Therefore, in my search for Ariel’s ideal colleges, I limited myself to schools within a few miles of the ocean. Somehow I don’t picture Ariel being comfortable in Iowa.

Majors: Ariel is fascinated by human culture and the various artifacts they leave behind. Even when she doesn't have a voice, her curiosity and enthusiasm for exploring the unfamiliar is clearly apparent. Therefore, nothing else would be more appropriate for her than a degree in Anthropology (studying other cultures) and/or Archaeology (digging up and cataloging random things from other cultures).

(Note: I have loads of respect for those discipline -- almost went into them myself!)

Activities: Even without her fishtail, Ariel is a strong-ass swimmer. (Didn’t she swim all the way to Eric's boat in that last climax scene? That thing was way offshore!) Any college she attends should offer a swim team so she can keep up her skills. And, for when she eventually gets her voice back, singing groups.

Other: Okay, I couldn't resist: I only included colleges that offered support services for people with speech disorders -- such as, you know, losing your voice to an evil sea witch.

Alright! That was a tough one, especially since I had to look at the map manually to find colleges closest to the coasts. But here are 10 colleges that would let Ariel really get up close and personal with the human world while not losing sight of her roots:
