Urgent Reform Needed in Alternative Provision for Youth
Tumblr media
A System in Dire Need of Reform
Alternative Provision (AP) in England is at a critical juncture. A recent report published by Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) sheds light on the pressing issues within the AP system, revealing a landscape marked by inconsistency, lack of oversight, and often, negative experiences for the children and young people it aims to support. Aimed at a UK demographic of men and women aged 25-55, this friendly and journalistic exploration delves into the need for urgent reform to better serve our nation's youth.
The Current State of Alternative Provision
Good registered AP is known to provide high-quality education. However, too many children find themselves in situations that fall far short of this standard. The report highlights a worrying lack of national standards in the commissioning and oversight of AP, leading to a patchwork of experiences and outcomes. Unclear roles and responsibilities at the local level further exacerbate this inconsistency, creating a disjointed picture across the country.
The Challenges Ahead
The Need for Clear National Standards The absence of clear national standards and guidelines around AP commissioning and oversight is a significant barrier to consistency. This gap has led to a situation where children and young people, especially those excluded from mainstream schooling or with complex needs, face a lottery in the quality of education and support they receive.   The Impact on Children and Young People Many of those attending AP experience disrupted education, with some describing their journey through the system as "soul-destroying". The emotional toll on students and their families is immense, with feelings of abandonment and a lack of support being common themes. Despite some examples of good practice, authorities do not consistently monitor the overall effectiveness of AP placements, and they often make decisions regarding placement without thorough consideration.
Recommendations for Improvement
The report sets forth several key recommendations aimed at transforming the landscape of AP in England. Among these are the development of better guidance on the purposes of AP, clearer roles and responsibilities for local partners, and the introduction of a proportionate registration and inspection regime. These measures aim to ensure that children in AP receive the education and care they deserve, focusing particularly on improving oversight and consistency in decision-making.
Voices from the Top
Sir Martyn Oliver, His Majesty’s Chief Inspector, emphasizes the invaluable support good AP can offer but also acknowledges the need for clarity and consistency to ensure positive experiences for all children. Likewise, Nigel Thompson of the CQC additionally calls for improvements in commissioning and delivery to meet the comprehensive needs of children and young people in AP.
The Path Forward
The report from Ofsted and the CQC is a call to action for all stakeholders in the AP system. Moreover, with the Department for Education's SEND and AP improvement plan on the horizon, there is renewed hope for a system that better serves the needs of vulnerable children and young people. Consequently, by embracing the recommended reforms, partners across health, education, and social care can collaboratively work together to deliver the improvements desperately needed in alternative provision.   Sources: THX News & Ofsted. Caring Home Options - Questions You Need to Ask to Find a Nursing Or Residential Home
Choosing the best care home for your needs can be one of the most important tasks you may need to do during your senior years. Moving into the right caring home is the key factor in determining the quality of your life. Get it right and you can enjoy many active years with support and companionship.
What's more, your loved ones can rest easy knowing you're in good hands and a happy environment. So how do you go about finding the right caring home for your needs?  Visit our website and get more details about CQC Standards for Care Homes.
When looking for a caring home, there are some vital questions you will need answered to determine whether the home is suitable for your needs. Here are some of those key questions you need to ask.
Tumblr media
Is the Care Home Registered?
Reputable care homes that take care of seniors in the UK are registered with government and independent organizations. This will guarantee certain minimum standards in the quality of the premises and of the staff and programs there.
One key organization for the regulation of care homes is Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI). This is the major body responsible for inspecting and regulating the standard of care provided by homes. All Care Homes and Nursing Homes must be registered with the CSCI and be able let you see their current inspection report. The report will outline the findings of the most recent inspection and cover such matters as to whether the home employs competent and suitably qualified staff.
In addition, all homes must register and be inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the independent regulator of health and social care in England. The CQC will thoroughly inspect the home and carry out interviews with residents and their families. They then issue a rating ranging from 0 stars (poor) up to 3 stars (excellent).
Another organization you can contact for information about caring homes is the Registered Nursing Home Association. Its web site features a variety of links to helpful resources and registered nursing homes. Get more information about  CQC Standards for Care Homes.
Tumblr media
Does It Meet Your Care Needs?
Not all care homes offer the same level of care. Care homes come in a variety of types depending on the facilities they offer. Residential homes, for example, offer a safe and comfortable living environment with help in carrying out everyday tasks. Nursing homes offer a similar environment but also provide 24-hour nursing care. Some nursing homes specialize in certain types of patient such as those with dementia or Alzheimer's disease.
If you suffer from a particular condition that requires regular treatment or is likely to in the future, this is obviously a crucial factor in your choice of nursing home.
In addition, if you are bedridden or frail you might want to choose a nursing home even if you have no serious medical condition. This will allows you to avail yourself of the more intensive care that the nursing home can provide should the need arise.
Does The Home Meet Your Emotional Needs?
Obviously receiving quality care is of prime importance but you also need to take into account your emotional needs. You should try to find a home that operates on a person-centered care basis. This means caring for the resident as an individual by interacting on a daily basis and through the use of therapeutic activities.
One factor that can boost a care home resident's state of mind is being near to family and friends. Having to move away from ones home and live in communal settings is stressful and depressing But it can be made far more pleasant by having friends and family visit on a regular basis.

TW: femicide
No formal risk assessment was done on a man who beat a fellow care home resident to death, a review has found.
Alexander Rawson attacked 93-year-old Eileen Dean with a metal walking stick at a care home in south-east London.
Mrs Dean suffered catastrophic injuries to her head and body and died later in hospital.
A review found Fieldside Care Home in Catford did not provide the specialist mental health services that Rawson - who had a history of violence - needed.
Last year, Rawson was given an indefinite hospital order by a judge at the Old Bailey after it was decided he was mentally unfit to stand trial.
Rawson, who had a history of mental health problems caused by alcoholism, was 62 when he was placed in the home a few days before Christmas 2020.
He was put in the room next to Mrs Dean and, in the first week of 2021, he went into her room at night and attacked her.
In a review published on Friday, the Lewisham Safeguarding Adults Board said Rawson had been moved into the home after being an inpatient at a psychiatric unit run by the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.
The care home was the only place that agreed to take him after his discharge from hospital.
The report described how Rawson was moved between four hospital wards and a care home in three locations and between two NHS trusts with information not gathered, recorded correctly or passed on.
In the months before he was moved into the care home, Rawson was involved in at least 34 recorded incidents of violence or threats to patients and health staff, including a threat to kill.
He had threatened to use a bread knife, scissors and dinner trays as weapons, had thrown jugs of water and cups and smashed equipment including computers, a radio and a crash trolley.
Before he was placed in the home, no attempts were made to find out whether Rawson had come into contact with the criminal justice system over his behaviour, the report found.
It states that the care home had asked about the risks Rawson posed before they took him and had been reassured by a social worker and medical staff.
The review also found that when the care home agreed to take Rawson, it had not told the watchdog, the Care Quality Commission (CQC), that it was housing people under the age of 65 with certain mental health needs.
A CQC spokesperson said: "The circumstances of Eileen Dean's death are appalling and our thoughts are with everyone affected.
"Health and social care providers must ensure they adequately assess the needs of people receiving their services, and collaborate to ensure appropriate placements are made.
"This includes sharing all relevant information when a transfer is being considered, so a person's new service can assess whether it can meet their needs while ensuring the safety of other people using the service."
Mrs Dean's daughter Georgina Hampshaw said in a statement: "It is with great sadness and regret that the published report confirms our worst fears of the many failings by the various agencies and trusts charged with managing the care and placement of the person responsible for the death of my mother Eileen Dean.
"The decision to place this person at the care home where my mother resided could not have been more flawed and resulted directly in the horrific murder of my gentle mother.
"Numerous opportunities were missed by so many agencies that may have prevented the horrific incident.
"I sincerely hope that the recommendations detailed within the report are adopted expeditiously and in full.
"No other family should have to suffer the loss of a loved one in such tragic circumstances."
Nathalie Zacharias, director of therapies at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, said: "We welcome the report's findings and recommendations and have conducted our own full investigation which identified where we can make improvements to the care we provide.
"This includes putting robust checks in place to ensure all known risks, including those which take place off our premises, are fully recorded and documented and ensuring people in our communities continue to receive the care and treatment most suitable for their needs."

Families have been left feeling distressed and anxious after witnessing the video of 88-year-old Ann King being tormented and abused by those meant to be caring for her. This is a realisation of the worst nightmares of all those who have loved ones in care.
This sadly, is not a case of a few bad apples, but indicative of a broken system. The sector is facing a staffing crisis due to low pay and poor conditions, and caring has become a profession of last resort with many homes being forced to recruit those with little or no other options. As a result, conditions in care homes have become untenable.
The Care Quality Commission is toothless to take on any issues that arise in private care homes. The campaign group Rights for Residents, of which I am a cofounder, has raised issues with the CQC on many occasions, as have individual families, and this is a typical response from them: “If you have experienced or seen poor care, you have a right to complain to the organisation that provided or paid for the care. We cannot make these complaints for you or take them up on your behalf because we do not have powers to investigate or resolve them.” There seem to be no consequences for those who provide poor care and the only people paying the price are our loved ones.
Prior to Covid, many residents and their families felt shut out from decision-making processes. This dynamic was further exacerbated during the pandemic, when residents were separated from their relatives and unable to advocate together. Many residents remain subject to unacceptable visiting restrictions, despite the government stating there should be none. The presence of relatives is the most important safeguarding mechanism, as they are often the first to spot when anything is wrong. Limiting family contact with residents has allowed the development of closed cultures that are a breeding ground for neglect and abuse.
How can this be solved? To start, staff shortages can be solved with better pay and conditions. Caring requires a level of empathy and skill that is not common to us all and should be properly rewarded. Investment in training is also critical. Those without the most basic level of educational attainment and training cannot shoulder such important work.
Residents and family members should be involved in developing future social policy, which includes discussions with ministers and policymakers. In addition, each care home should have regular meetings with residents and their families.
Finally, the government and the CQC need to come clean if the powers and resources don’t exist to investigate serious concerns reported to them. An urgent overhaul or complete reset is needed if the dignity and human rights of residents is to be safeguarded.
Social care needs to be properly funded by the government, and private care home companies need to reinvest profits into quality care, rather than pocketing large dividends at the expense of residents.
Unless there is urgent action, it’s inevitable that we’ll hear of more tragic cases like that of Ann King.

UK — London. The leadership team of the Tavistock Centre’s Gender Identity Development Service for children (GIDS) is to be “disbanded” in response to an inspection report rating its service as “inadequate”, and the Keira Bell judicial review decision that found it ‘highly unlikely’ under-16s could consent to treatment with puberty blockers.
In judgments published on 20th January, inspectors from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) found the Tavistock to be “inadequate” in leadership and responding to people’s needs; “requiring improvement” in safety and effectiveness; in only one category, caring, was rated “good”. There were particular concerns around waiting times, safeguarding, consent, culture and leadership, especially in “the raising and handling of concerns”. In papers (pdf) for the meeting of the Tavistock and Portman board of directors held on January 26th, Chief Executive Paul Jenkins writes:
“In response to the CQC report and the breadth of existing actions flowing from the Judicial Review judgment we are proposing to take immediate action to strengthen management arrangements for the service and increase our clinical and operational capacity to deliver change.”
A new Interim GIDS Management Board chaired by the divisional director for gender Ailsa Swarbrick will replace existing senior management structures and report to a new GIDS Oversight Committee to be chaired by Jenkins. The current service director, who is Polly Carmichael, will “have a place on the GIDS Interim Management Board.” Jenkins states other members of the current leadership team will be assigned “roles in workstreams and projects relevant to their skills and experience.” These include current medical director Dr Dinesh Sinha, whose internal review of the service (pdf) in March 2019 found “no immediate issues in relation to patient safety or failings in the overall approach taken by the service.”
The interim team will start work on 1st February and oversee the service for 6-12 months. The shake-up at the top follows a period of mounting scrutiny and criticism of GIDS, which has seen a surge in referrals of children questioning their gender from 77 in 2009 to 2590 in 2018-19. In December 2020 judges in the High Court found the Tavistock was unable provide evidence of the long-term effects of prescribing puberty blockers to children and ruled that court approval must be sought for children to consent to such medical interventions. GIDS has suspended prescriptions of puberty blockers pending an appeal of that ruling. In June 2020 BBC Newsnight reported staff concerns being shut down at the clinic. Sonia Appleby, lead safeguarding officer at GIDS claims she is being penalising by her employers after she raised concerns and has mounted a whistle-blowing legal challenge. In September 2020 the NHS announced an independent inquiry into children’s services at the Tavistock.
It is two years since Tavistock governor Marcus Evans resigned over the Trust’s failure to act on an internal report by fellow governor and consultant psychiatrist Dr David Bell on concerns brought to him by colleagues over the way the GIDS was treating patients. It followed the resignation of 35 clinicians in three years. Earlier this week Dr Bell, who worked at the Tavistock Clinic for 24 years and faced disciplinary charges for writing his report, told Chanel 4 News in this devastating interview, “Children have been very seriously damaged.” He has also mounted a whistle-blowing legal challenge.
Now the Tavistock says it plans to recruit “a range of clinical and operational experts from outside the service, and in most cases from outside the Trust to increase our capacity to manage and deliver change at pace.” Transgender Trend, which has worked hard to highlight the harm of prescribing puberty blockers to gender-questioning children, reacted to the Tavistock’s management shake-up. The most significant change announced is the recruitment of a range of clinical and operational experts from outside the service to deliver psychological treatment and therapy ....

I researched instances of power and oppression in both past and modern-day issues for a project at TAMUCC. I chose the issue of abuse in psychiatric facilities. Thank you for reading and feel free to comment.
What many people do not realize about psychiatric hospitals is that they have a long history of mistreatment and abuse. Being admitted to a psychiatric hospital can be one of the most frightening and vulnerable times of a person’s life. Unfortunately, there are times when patients are taken advantage of in this state. Dorethea Dix, one of the first Americans to demand reform in psychiatric facilities, opened the world’s eyes to the horrors in the institutions. She visited and documented cases of abuse in psych wards and presented her findings to the public in 1843. Patients were found tied up, beaten, and put in cages for so long that their muscles atrophied. They were not given regular food and clean water and were usually denied showers and basic hygiene. Obviously, these conditions are not suitable for any human, especially those that are already fragile psychologically. Additionally, facilities would deem many women incurable despite their symptoms being treatable or preventable with proper care. Many viewed the mentally ill as less than human and treated them as such. While Dorthea Dix made great strides among others to reform mental health institutions, there is still a huge prevalence of abuse today.
At any given time, there are over 150,000 Americans being admitted into inpatient psychiatric facilities. Over time, activists have been working to improve and destigmatize psychiatric hospitals to help those that need it. The Psychiatric Bulletin found that approximately 71% of female inpatient patients have received unwanted sexual attention or assault in facilities. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) studied sexual assault reports in psychiatric facilities over a period of three months in 2017 and found and found an alarming 1,129 reports of sexual assault and rape. Some experts even say that this number is grossly underestimated, especially in cases of staff member assaulting patients. While wards that prioritized sexual safety were also reported, the high percentage of patients that have been assaulted in psychiatric facilities is overwhelming. Perhaps the most shocking statistic from this report was that 97% of the incidents were reported as “low harm.” While the true impact of the incidents cannot be known, some criticize that they are reported as such to protect staff members. Many times, staff members don’t report assaults due to fear of being blamed, or to protect the perpetrator. Additionally, therapists and psychiatrists that are told about possible patient assaults may fear that legal action may actually harm the patient, and they may not be able to handle the scrutiny of a trial. Other times, they are just not believed due to their mental illness. The issue is that the mentally ill are already seen as unreliable, on top of being a woman. If it was between a mentally ill woman in a psychiatric facility and a nice male doctor, who would you believe? Many would believe the doctor, nurse, or staff member over the patient. A Cambridge study found that three-quarters of psychiatric professionals feel that there is avoidance or denial of access to the criminal justice system to patients. When action is taken, all that is typically required is an incident report that can stay with the hospital. The issues with this are that they are often not completed uniformly, don’t list the assailant’s name, and are not available to managers. Some reasons for the inconsistency of data reports are that staff may be habituated to sexually aggressive behaviors from their patients and don’t get the same level of outrage, or that they may be protecting another staff member. Many experts have recommended a national database of adverse incident reports to keep them available to managers and law enforcement and require them to give as much information as possible on the assailant. This would not only increase law enforcement involvement but also prevent repetitions by habitual predators. While many strides have been taken in the treatment of patients in psychiatric hospitals, there is still more to be made.

Care home prosecuted after woman raped by fellow resident
There were almost 80 sexual and violent incidents involving the man before victim was attacked
A care home provider has been fined £363,000 after failing to protect a woman who was raped by another resident despite almost 80 sexual and violent incidents being reported.
The firm, which cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, was also ordered to pay £12,441 in prosecution costs at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
The Care Quality Commission prosecuted the company after what was described in court as its failure to respond effectively to a series of incidents involving a man who was eventually convicted of eight sexual offences at Nottingham Crown Court in 2019.
Sentencing the company, which admitted two charges under the 2008 Health and Social Care Act relating to a care home in Nottinghamshire, District Judge Leo Pyle said there had been a "marked change" within the firm since the failings.
The judge told the court: "The court should ensure that the effect of the fines is proportionate to the gravity of the offence.
"This case in my view involves high culpability.
"Staff were raising concerns, management were not acting. In my view it was a systemic failure within the organisation. There is no minimising the harm caused by the male resident – that is reflected in the convictions at the Crown Court.
"His behaviour affected residents and staff. It should have been addressed earlier.
"During that period it would have been obvious... that there was a high likelihood of harm."
The charges stated that the firm failed to protect the woman who was raped "from abuse and improper treatment resulting in avoidable harm" and had failed "to have systems and processes in place and operating effectively" to avoid harm to service users.
During the opening of the case by the CQC's barrister, it was stated that there had been 79 incidents of violence and sexualised behaviour involving the male resident.
Prior to sentence, defence lawyer Mark Ruffell, offering mitigation, said what had happened in the care home, amid a "geyser" of difficulties from many different residents on multiple occasions, was unique.
Mr Ruffell said the company accepted that staff should have "joined the dots" but stressed that eight or nine safeguarding referrals made to social services had been rejected.
Meanwhile, police had been called out several times but either did not attend or "matters just dissipated," Mr Ruffell told the judge.
The court also heard that the perpetrator had initially been bailed by police, and that social services had then wanted the suspect to return to the same home.
Speaking after the court case, Mary Cridge, CQC deputy chief inspector for adult social care, said: “People have a right to safe care and treatment, delivered in an environment where threats to their wellbeing – including abuse – are well managed. Sadly, this care provider did not meet these fundamental standards for residents at the home where this incident took place.
“The company’s failure to protect a vulnerable woman in its care from a resident who was known to present a sexual threat is appalling. The crime she was subjected to was avoidable.
“Similarly, the company’s lack of safeguards to protect all residents at the home from the risk of abuse was unacceptable.
“The majority of care providers do an excellent job. However, when a provider puts people in its care at risk of harm, we take action to hold it to account and protect people.
“I hope this prosecution reminds care providers they must always take all reasonable steps to manage risks to people’s safety, including ensuring people are safeguarded from abuse.”

[The following is a recording of the encounter between the 1st Legacy Legion, the Guardians of Primus Dawn, Coalition of Order and the Lost Warborn]
The atmosphere was tense, preparations were made and commander Era and myself were going over the last minute preparations.
Era began, “They are near the meeting point. The sentients who will be present are guardians Harbinger and Omen, and we will represent our Legion. Captain Aurelius has elected to remain outside of the meeting, stating this is between us and the lost.”
Mason replied, “I understand. Preset orders have been given to the remaining troops under our command, not to fire unless fired upon. In all due reality we are as ready as we’ll ever be.”
Era responded, “Then all we can do is wait”.
It short order Era, Mason, Harbinger and Omen were waiting outside the main hanger of the Colossus waiting to greet the warborn as they were on approach. The 13 lost warborn approached weapons at the ready but not in a threatening position.
While they were still out of earshot Harbinger stated, “It seems these lost warborn have taken notice of our presence.”
Omen replied, “Yes brother, it seems likely that they will come bearing suspicion, this will make things difficult for you Mason.”
Mason responded, “Please don’t worry, they won’t fire at you without acquiring more information. Besides it’s obvious we aren’t in a state of distress nor are we held against our will.”
Era nodded and informed everyone, “It seems our guests have arrived with some additional troops no less.”
17 warborn stopped a distance 4 more than expected along with two additional vehicles, after a quick configuration a diplomat team was dispatch while the others retained their position. The team composed of commander Kenai, captain Frey, captain Reed, commando Ferrus and an unknown black ops leader. The meeting began with the 4 representatives of the 1st Legacy Legion and the 5 representing the remaining the lost Warborn.
Commander Kenai began the meeting, “Commander Era it is good to see a familiar face.”
Era responded, “Likewise commander Kenai. It is good to see even more of our kin survive the singularity event.”
Before Kenai could respond the black ops (BO) commando spoke and hefted his weapon, “Let’s dispose of the pleasantries, why are there sentients of Primus Dawn here?”
Kenai, Reed and Frey looked unsure of the situation. Mason took the opportunity to reply, “These are guardians Harbinger and Omen. There are other guardians here as well, such as Apocalypse and Sovereign along with some other non-guardian sentients. Allow me to explain why they are here.”
[Mason explained events of the crash, establishment of the Legion, and other events leading all the way through to the sentient broadcast, meeting and pact]
Once Mason was done with his explanation both Reed and Frey responded at the same time, “Do you have official records to collaborate this story?”
Era replied, “Yes, the on-board timestamped records collaborate our story.”
After a moment Kenai asked a follow up question, “I assume you have the records on hand, please send them to commando Ferrus to verify”.
Era complied with the request while the unnamed BO commando continued with questions directed at the guardians, “My last orders were specific. My squad infiltrated Primus Dawn with specific orders to kill the guardian named Omen. Tell me whats to stop me from gunning you down here and now.”
Omen replied in a compassionate tone, “Interesting, you seem to know my name however I’m afraid I’d don’t know yours. I’m concerned you still feel the need to extinguish me considering the situation. I don’t want to hurt any warborn who are friends of our allies but I will defend myself if necessary.”
Harbinger added, “My brother speaks truth. We don’t have any ill will to any of the warborn, but I assure you we will not hesitate to eliminate those who wish us harm.”
Following this statement Ferrus nodded to Kenai who then said, “The information checks out. In regards to our black armored companion here, this is Scourge unit commando Mateo. As you’ve probably guessed both him and his squad are unique warborn who only answer to the federation high council and their representatives. Considering the circumstances I’m certain he will be patient and understanding.”
As commander Kenai finished his statement he looked at Mateo expectantly, who nodded and grunted in agreement. In turn captain Frey ask Era the question, “So you would like to incorporate us into the 1st Legacy Legion?”
Era replied, “Affirmative. We have only explored a 50 square mile radius and the establishment of one hostile force is located within the woods to the north of our position. These entities are extremely dangerous, we’ve had some skirmishes with them but the alliance with the Sentients of Primus Dawn has aided in our conflict with them.”
Captain Reed looked to commander Kenai then replied, “We’ve also had a run in with a hostile force. Located deep within the southern mountains where we came from is fortified base. We attempted to establish contact however we were met with immediate hostility. We escaped with minor injuries, but we have some information regarding our assailants.”
Captain Reed began transmitting data to Mason who informed Era he was reviewing it when Kenai continued, “Our enemy is seems to be an ancestor people of the Alterrans. The federation species who bore the genetic template for us warborn prior to the war with the sentients of Primus Dawn. The reason we are characterizing them as an ancestor people is due to the nature of their weapons and armor. They use high velocity ballistics, although not as dangerous as the mass weapons from the sentients they are still a force to be reckoned with. Their military force is actually pretty small and from the looks of it they are caring for Alterran refugees.”
Mason nodded to Era, verifying the information they found while Era replied, “So it seems we have more than one enemy force on this world that wishes us harm.”
Frey asked a question, “You mentioned a force within the northern woods, what kind of force?”
Era replied, “We believe they are hostiles that are native to this world. They are cold blooded reptilian bipedal beasts with no advanced technological equipment. They seem tribal in nature and disorganized as a whole species, but it is very dangerous to underestimate them. What makes them such a threat is their natural weapons and armor. Their natural armor seem to shrug off most energy based laser weapons unless it is concentrated fire or that of rifle caliber. Even the ballistic mass driver weapons of the sentients seems to deflect off of the armor unless a direct hit with minimal angling is done. The main turrets and guardian weapons seem to pierce their armor, but in when our weapons hit directly and seem to inflict harm it seems to make them even more dangerous. So unless a kill or crippling shot is observed then they will simply shrug off the impact and keep coming. They fight either with their jaws, claws or hand made close quartered combat weapons. Based off of numerous skirmishes they favor aggressive tactics, but whenever we come up with a counter strategy they adapt. They also tend to recruit local fauna into their ranks somehow. Their resilience in armor, lethality in CQC and overall toughness makes them very hard to kill, so if we actively observe the forest to ensure we have advanced warning to their aggression.”
Frey being ever curious had a follow up, “These saurians seem to be quite the threat. You haven’t lost anyone in these skirmishes despite their capabilities?”
Mason replied this time, “At first we’ve been getting serious injuries with no mortalities. Luckily our med bay was still fully operational during this time. Our saving grace is sealing ourselves within the ship until the tribal saurians lose interest. After the incorporation of captain Aurelius and his men along with the Sentients of Primus Dawn we’ve been able to stand our ground completely against the threats of saurians so far, but recently no activity has been sighted along the forest border.”
Kenai took the opportunity to respond, “I see, you’re expecting this to be the calm before the storm?”
Era replied, “Yes. Normally the saurians are always testing us, but as we’ve stated they seem to be unusually absent.”
Kenai took a moment before responding, “Allow us a moment to convene to discuss your offer.”
Era nodded and the lost warborn leaders went to regroup with their respective men while Harbinger stated, “Two full commando units, three additional leaders, an engineer, five additional infantrymen, one jet specialist trooper, a hover bike, recon walker and a repulse tank. They will be quite the addition to your Legion’s capability commanders.”
Mason replied, “Yes they will be instrumental in the establishment of a safe zone here on this world. I hope this doesn’t worry any of you sentients.”
Omen responded cheerfully, “It is not a significant concern of ours. We believe each of you will uphold the promises you made. Even the commanders Pride and Titus.”
Era replied, “I have a meeting with each of them later. I know Titus is regretful of his actions and will seek atonement but I’m not certain about Pride though.”
Mason responded, “I’ll talk to Pride, we were together during training on our homeworld.”
Before anyone could respond from the sentient/warborn pact, the lost warborn commander Kenai came forward with an announcement. Kenai said “Each of us have made our decision to join the 1st Legacy Legion with the exception of the Scourge commando unit. I’ve directed our troops to find find bunks within the ship. The Scourge commando unit is going to continue surveying the planet we are on and will wire us reports.”
Reed and Frey nodded in agreement. A binary signal was sent to Era’s heads up display, to which he responded with a quick input in his command gauntlet. Era then joined Mason in helping commander Kenai coordinate the reunification of the lost warborn into the 1st Legacy Legion.
