AY24.25 CTS A | Week 11
Compulsory Question 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Through today’s mind-mapping activity, I gained a clearer understanding of how each module connects with CTS A, creating a cohesive learning framework. As a Communication Design student, this approach helped me intuitively grasp the relationships between modules. Tony Buzan’s The Power of a Mind to Map explains that mind mapping organizes thoughts by visualizing connections, which helped me see how the modules relate to each other (Buzan).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(after the class, I recreated the chart to display the connection distribution across seven weekly themes in the AY24.25 CTS A module. Each module—Studio, Critical Thinking, Digital Skill, Craft Workshop, and Photography—is represented by a different color. The total score is 84 )
After concluding each module, I found that Studio connects most closely with CTS themes, while Digital Skills has fewer ties to CTS A. I believe this is due to each module's structure, focusing on different skills to create a complete learning experience, as highlighted by the components outlined in educational modules ("Main Components of an Educational Module").
Tumblr media
(This chart illustrates the connection between the CTS A (Critical Thinking Skills A) module and other course modules, showing how CTS A enhances learning across different areas)
In D - CE101 Studio, CTS A integrates knowledge and skills, shifting my mindset and enhancing problem-solving by fostering new approaches to challenges and reflection (Reputation Today). This development helps me build analytical skills for evaluating ideas during group discussions, research, and reflections. In my Studio project, The CPJ (Creative Process Journal) supported me in documenting ideas, aligning with CTS A’s goals of self-assessment and communication. Through the weekly projects,I learned to work under pressure, collaborate effectively, express ideas confidently, build relationships, accept feedback, and manage emotions. These skills have enhanced my skills、 mindset and design clarity, which are essential for effectively communicating design choices and ensuring cohesive Studio project outcomes (Stobierski).
According to the Module Descriptor from LASALLE College of the Arts,  I found that there is another connection between modules (chart above ). Module D - CE102 Craft, Techniques & Technologies—overall providing technical support for Studio projects (module descriptor, lasalle collage of the art).
For Craft, Analytical thinking nurtured by CTS A simplifies complex ideas and enhances the depth of my design process (Grant). Photography emphasizes CTS A’s observational skills, allowing me to thoughtfully capture and analyze compositions that support visual expression in Studio. In Digital Skills, CTS A helps me assess and refine designs for clarity and coherence across projects, utilizing software to enhance digital outcomes effectively.
Overall, CTS A ties my learning together, enabling me to think critically, analyze, and apply skills across different modules, creating a strong foundation for future design work.

CTS A | Week 1 What is Critical Thinking 01. Describe your understanding of critical thinking that you had before the class, and reflect on what you may have learned. (158 words)
Before this class, I believed critical thinking was primarily about logically analyzing situations and solving problems. However, I’ve learned that critical thinking involves questioning assumptions, recognizing biases, and making evidence-based decisions (Facione). This broader perspective has shifted my approach to problem-solving, allowing me to engage with the complexities of issues and consider multiple viewpoints (Lai). As a result, I can now apply this skill to my time management in Studio and CPJ, improve my Photography compositions, and refine technical approaches in Craft Workshop and Digital Skills.
02. What have you learned about Mindfulness? How might you integrate this into your learning environment? (84 words)
Initially, I viewed mindfulness as simply being present in the moment. However, research shows that mindfulness can enhance focus, stress management, and emotional regulation (Shapiro et al.). This insight has led me to integrate mindful practices, like breathing exercises, into my workflow, which helps me stay focused and calm, improving my creativity and design process (Schoeberlein and Sheth).
03. Describe an eventful moment you have experienced in this class. (63 words)
The self-reflection exercise in class was impactful, especially when reflecting on my long-term goals. It pushed me to think critically about my future and self-worth, prompting personal growth. Studies show that self-reflection boosts awareness and development (Grant et al.), which I’ve found helpful in deepening my creative practice, particularly when considering artists like Miles Johnston, whose work explores the complexity of emotions and self-awareness.
