conclusion
the beginning of DHARA, the end of another project.
At the beginning of this project, I was sceptical about coming up with ideas as the topic wasn’t as wide as I thought. Indigo in itself was a difficult topic to research as most things that came up was mostly related to the colour indigo rather than the plant or the dye.
After researching mostly on the main topic of indigo plants and indigo dyeing, there were actually many things that popped up from ethical brands to dyeing workshops. This made it easier for me to do my research as there were history of indigo dyeing that dated back to even before the roman era. From this I also got to find out about different brands located around South East Asia and Australasia, that practiced sustainability and ethical fashion. Brands like Rupahaus, sourced and worked with artisans from Indonesia who practiced eco-conscious dyeing and sustainable fabric making.
Dhara was created to bring awareness to the Singaporean consumers about ethical fashion and sustainability. We wanted to create a brand that gets inspired by nature and sharing our inspirations from nature to others. We wanted to show others that we all could be inspired by nature and anything that surround us everyday. Some times its the things that we take for granted, that could be our main inspiration for anything. Therefore, the first thing I learnt from this is that we should always appreciate what we have around us.
It was a journey full of ups and downs. Well, for me it was the most challenging because I had the task of informing and letting others know deadlines for whatever task we needed and sometimes it was hard for me to push others around as they too had their own tasks in their hands. But nonetheless, even with the pressure, I pulled through. We all did. In the end, we created something we were all proud of. As a group, we brought DHARA to life through our communication and visualisation. It was a great experience working with the team as everyone has never worked with one another before, it was a new and exciting experience for me, getting to work with new members.
That’s all from this journey and the next journey continues.

[week eight] blue: interdisciplinary project
the blue project
my poem:
blue,
my blue.
it’s the dark night skies,
the stars littered across it.
it’s the crashing of waves,
and sea breeze at 5 in the morning.
it’s the cold winter days,
with snow covered walkways.
it’s the quietness of the dark,
the emptiness of a soul.
what is blue?
what is your blue?
blue,
my blue.
it’s the warmth,
of bright skies.
it’s the breath of fresh air,
in the early morning.
it’s the murmuring of waves,
and the slight wind blowing at your face.
it’s the heart warming smiles,
and laughter of our loved ones.
what is blue?
what is your blue?

[week eight] blue: interdisciplinary project.
the blue project.
At first, I felt like this sub-project was quite unnecessary as it was held during our project week (week 8). Project week was usually the time where we mostly caught up with our works that weren’t up to our standards or just to do test shoots and what not.
With that taken away from us, we were given new tasks and experiences. Being in a room with a totally new lecturer and classmates, it was nerve-wrecking since they were all unfamiliar faces. It took awhile for us to get comfortable with one another. The lecturer on the other hand, he was quite a character. Being a performing lecturer, he made us move a lot as part of our warming up session and to get to know each other better. It was weird ‘cause in Fashion all you do is come to class, get our laptops out, listen to lecture and start on our work.
It was a fun experience I must say as this project has allowed me to get out of my comfort zone. Meeting new people and making new friends, at the same time I learnt new things. I learnt how to express myself even more through my words and body language through this class. It allowed me to open up myself to new things and become more open to trying things I’ve never done before.
It made me think a lot more about the colour blue, from most of the days my group and I were discussing. Blue became the topic of discussion and this made us become closer through similar thoughts and way of perceiving the colour blue. Thinking if blue wasn’t blue what would it be. If blue wasn’t a colour but a certain way of communicating. If blue wasn’t a colour but a kind of feeling or atmosphere. If the sky wasn’t blue, how would people feel or act? These thoughts came to our minds when discussing about what blue is to us.
My group and I decided to come up with a performance piece where three of us would recite our own thoughts in poetry forms and it would be translated through tempo by two of our other team mates onto a piece of paper and paint by using their hands and pair of feet instead of painting materials.
