Red. They liked red. Blue was the enemy. Blue was water. Blue was evil. Blue is alive. And it would all burn to red and black. It was The Pyro. The Incarnate. The inhuman monster that lurks in the molten core of this planet. At one time. Not anymore.

It was a domesticated creature now. Soulbound to an asbestos suit. Whatever asbestos was. All it knew was that it was itchy before becoming more properly accustomed to the wear.

Soon enough it had became incorporated into its being. It enjoyed the suit, found it comforting to be given form. Even if the others saw The Pyro as inhuman, it had a lover. A good one at that. He loved it. The Pyro was certain of it, the way he didn't shy away so fast. Nor did he seemed bothered by its new maw. Teeth splintering sideways, sharp, serrated, and snaking between its eyes. Plus, he didn't want to gut him like the doctor.

The man wore a yellow hardhat, voice gentle and beckoning. How it would love to crawl onto his lap sometimes. How it would love to hold him. Take him home.  Take him. Take... The Pyro growled at the thought. He wouldn't let it stay.

So there it was. Sitting in the rafters, watching him. Only a desk lamp keeping the room lit, cloaking it in darkness. The Pyro was careful to not move. It didn't wish to bother The Engineer. He was working hard. Always working hard. Didn't he deserve a break?

Always nitpicking the littlest things about his designs. Striving for perfection that would never be achieved. He could always do better is what he'd say. Working himself to exhaustion and some nights passing out there at the table. It was there to make sure he left to go to his room. The workshop is no place to sleep, it's a bad habit in the making.

The Pyro watched a little longer as The Engineer nodded off. No. No. No. He can't. It hopped down, surprised there was no reaction to the sudden noise. Moving closer, it gently shook his shoulders. He mumbled something incoherent. So it sighed and took him up by the armpits.

How heavy he was didn't matter, but getting him to a bed did. The Engineer's room was locked behind a passcode, one of the few that had one. And it didn't feel like setting off any alarms. It was okay though, its room was clean and so was the bed.

The Pyro slipped into its room, careful to avoid watchful eyes. It was late, and despite how empty it was there could be The Spy watching. Chancing it was the last thing it wanted to do. Have people up in arms assuming it went to go kill its love or something insane. The others didn't think too highly of it.

Its room was small. Just enough for The Pyro alone, but with The Engineer in its bed it just sat on the floor. Tucking him in, it sat across from the bed on the floor. The queen sized bed took up most of the room, leaving just enough space for an empty wardrobe and a cold coat hanger. Its flamethrower leaned against the barren coat hanger, and it had kept nothing but matches, snacks, and a few plushies within the drawers of the little wardrobe.

The Pyro sat there, with just enough room to sit with its knees curled inwards. To avoid kicking the bed as its back pressed against the wall. It wished not to bother its dearest, who needed the rest more that it did. However, it did put The Pyro at ease knowing that he was getting some sleep. Most of its anxieties that kept it up were worries of The Engineer overworking himself.

It doesn't take long to close its eyes seeing everything was okay. Sleep was close. Sleep was warm. Sleep was-

He stirrs.

The Pyro jolted awake at the noise. It wasn't that loud, but enough to grab its attention. The shuffling of sheets. Tinted glass lenses stared. The faint white pupils of The Pyro's eyes visible for that brief moment. Nothing happened.

It seemed as if time stopped, dragging on for hours in a mere moment. Confusion, realization, uncertainty... Fear. All felt in an instant. Plasma was its innards. Ionized helium bursting into flame, burning long and hard like pure sodium sputtering in the sea.

Suddenly, The Engineer laughs. It's not cruel. He sighed and reached out to The Pyro. "Y'know, if y' wanted me to get some rest you could'a asked..."

'You wouldn't listen, and you know it!' It huffed, mumbling softly. The Pyro took his hand finally, he seemed surprised by the action. What else was was it supposed to do? The Engineer just smiled back. "You're too cute, firebug."

Firebug. It's heart skipped a beat, hopping onto the bed. That was an invitation, right? He still flinched at the sudden advance. This time though, he seemed to catch on.

The Engineer pulled back the sheets. "Sure. I don't see why not, y' make a good point." Really? Really? Before he could change his mind, The Pyro let his hand go only to wrap its arms tightly around him. He hummed, coaxing them back into the matress.

The Pyro was his follower in this little dance, one of his arms around it and another used to pull the covers up. "Did'ja wanna' kiss too?" He mused, pressing their foreheads together. It mumbled softly, pulling away. "Mm?"

The Engineer could only watch as a fissure appeared in the mask, a mouth rupturing up between The Pyro's glass eyes. Sharp teeth within a flytrap's maw. Unfortunately, this fly was already caught. The Pyro leaned back in, instigating a kiss. Its maw brushed over stubble, before finding his lips. Gentle. Small. It needn't be more.

From there, night took over. Sleep was not far behind, and never was. The new moon's light, rather... A lack thereof, beckons rest. And this time, it was peaceful.
