15 Questions: Jon [With Occasional Input From Aither, Luc, and Isaac]

I know @blind-the-winds tagged me to show me their nifty character interview, and it struck a cord, so here I am doing it.

CLV Tag list, I know it's been a while, so please tell me if you wanna be removed, mostly tagging to share, though you are welcome to do it and tag to show me your character's interview. I attached a blank version in GDocs here.

Jon, Luc, Isaac, Aither and the Interviewer are seated in the front longue.

Aither is settled on the arm of Jon's chair playing with a phone that doesn't look like anything the Interviewer has seen before.

Luc and Isaac are on a love seat, a coffee table in front of them. Isaac is sprawled out, while Luc is relaxed but ready to pounce according to posture.

The Interviewer is in the other arm chair opposite of Jon and Aither, with a notebook in their lap.

Interviewer: “Thanks again for doing this.”

Jon tips his head, peering through his glasses. Humming, "Mmmmhmmm."

1. Are you named after anyone?

Smiling slightly, "Do you know anything of Russian naming customs?"

The interviewer shakes their head.

"Mum never told me why she picked my first name, but my middle name is technically a patronymic and my last name my father's." He motions for them to ask their next question when they're done writing in a notebook.

2. When was the last time you cried?

His eyes narrow, "I'd rather not say, it was a stressful situation that is still being dealt with."

Aither glances towards the sofa, lips pressing in a tight line.

3. Do you have any kids?

Jon snorts, shaking his head, "Do my Little Birds count? We have not decided on family matters at this time."

They blink at him, jotting something down and asking, "Little Birds?"

"People I know from taking Walks, a lot of them are teenagers, or they were when I originally met them." He explains with a snicker, elbowing his sister.

4. Do you use sarcasm?

Jon slowly smiles, completely false innocent, "Why would I ever do that?" He drawls, allowing the more Scottish accent he normally keeps suppressed to show.

Isaac and Luc share a rather speaking look, and Aither snorts.

They smile, shaking their head and writing a few notes down.

5. What’s the first thing you notice about people?

He waves towards the others, "They're the ones who pay attention to people more often." He shrugs, "Otherwise, it depends on how I meet them."

They frown, tapping their pen against their chin. "What do you mean?"

Jon and Aither glance at each other, an entire conversation in it.

"Well, someone I meet on the street, I take in posture and clothes, how they talk to me." He explains, shrugging, "someone I meet through work, I pay attention to expression and tone. She does body language reading, and has been trying to teach me."

They nod, quickly writing more notes. They open their mouth like they're going to ask one thing, only to close it, lean forward and ask.

6. What’s your eye color?

"Grey, technically," Jon answers, blinking and seeming confused for a moment, "ah, my glasses, yeah, it makes the blue more noticeable, but they are grey."

They straighten back up, tapping their pen a bit.

7. Scary movies or happy endings?

"Scary movies with happy endings," he replies with a snicker, "not the easiest thing to find. But then, how one defines scary all depends on what they find frightening."

Before they can ask for clarification, Isaac says, "Moving on," with a flick of his hand.

8. Any special talents?

"What defines special?" Jon queries as the other three start laughing.

"My brother has a lot of talents, due to the way the folks raised him," Aither pipes in with another snicker.

Luc and Isaac share a speaking look of their own.

Isaac is the one to speak, "Some would say it's easier to say what he's not good at."

"Cooking!" Luc, Isaac, and Aither declare at once with another round of laughter.

Jon rolls his eyes, "They're not wrong. I can't cook worth a damned."

Maybe they will skip that line of questioning for now.

9. Where were you born?

There's a softness in Jon's expression that hasn't been there for the rest of the interview, "Edinburgh."

Makes sense with the hints of Scottish accent here and there. Though why the sister doesn't have one they're not going to ask right now.

10. What are your hobbies?

Again the trio laugh and Jon rolls his eyes at them.

"I have a lot of hobbies," his head tips forward a bit, so dark hair covers his glasses for a moment, "really depends on how bored I've been recently. Right now I've been spending a lot of time tinkering with the car."

They nod, making a few notes. That is understandable, there's lots of times they go through hobbies like water.

11. Have you any pets?

The siblings share a laugh and chuckle, before he answers, "Let's say two cats, and leave it there."

Isaac mutters something, but they don't catch what it is.

12. What sports do you play/have played?

"Parkour is where I excel, though I've tried a lot of different things," he answers with a snicker. "Really, it was the childhood training for gymnastics and acrobatics, yes both, I got bored easily, that lead to parkour."

Aither grins, "Don't let him skip dancing, he excels there too, but is more modest about it."

"Watching him with either is a treat," Luc practically purrs, green eyes heated as they glance at Jon.

They nod, as they take a few more notes, wondering if they can get a demonstration before they leave.

13. How tall are you?

"Definitely not answering that," Jon replies with a snicker, "though taller than her or you."

That doesn't tell them anything. The expression in his eyes though keeps them from pushing.

14. Favorite subject in school?

Rubbing the back of his neck, Jon sinks further into the chair, muttering, "I didn't do traditional school, but lets say computers, or maybe languages."

That gets a burst of laughter from the other.

This interview is not going at all how they expect. One last main question then they're calling it.

15. Dream job?

"Whatever I'm currently enjoying," he answers with a grin. "Anything else?"

They shake their head, glancing at their notes, "No, thank you for your time." Normally they'd want to visit a bit more, see if there is any other information or clarification they could get, but right now they want to be somewhere else. They're feeling rather hunted and don't know why.

Depending on the type of escape room:

Jon: climb up in the ceiling, rafters, or venting, find the exit accordingly. Pick the lock, or locks, and enjoy it if they have more than the standard pin-style.

Aither: pick the lock, find a window to exit, set a trap

Luc and Isaac: put the fact they can make explosives outta most things to good use.

It is once again STS and I am once again at work tonight, so in honour of that I'm throwing this to the lot of you:

Your OCs have come to my escape room. How are they getting on in there?

-Which of your characters would be most likely to keep a jar of peanut butter next to their work space, either because they just like peanut butter or for the protein, so that they could eat spoonfuls whenever they wanted to? Please!

Definitely Jon, Aither, and Quin.

Jon and Quin forget to eat a lot, so they keep it around for the times they actually remember. It's healthy and useful, that's a bonus. Both stick to creamy.

Aither meanwhile loves the taste and enjoys eating it cause she can. Depending on her mood is what type she will eat.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY IN HERE TOO! Ask: Which OC of yours is your favourite and why? Tell Aither and Jon I said hi!

I don’t have favorites.......and if you believe that I have a few bridges to sell! 

*looks around to make sure they aren’t listening* I’m sure the first two of the three I’m gonna list are given. 

Aither has been a favorite since she came into being in 2009 (the second time, as she was based on Aether from 2004). She’s always been a science based fighter type, though the types of science have evolved over the years. 

Jon is relatively new, having only been around for the last four-ish years. However, I can see parts of Carlos, Mikhail, and Zalec in him, three of my older boys of similar nature. 

Eric is my cobra shifter from the Pack Verse, and original character that was Imported from older notes and story bits into a fandom crossover world. He’s deadly and intelligent, lacks mercy more often than not, but has a strict code he keeps to, to the point he has confronted gods  who fuck with it.

Jon is both. He hates to be late when it’s not his choice, as he sees it as bad form. On that same note, he will get doing something and hyperfocus, causing him to be late.

Tzila is on time, all the time, often early instead when given the chance. 

Khronthises on the other hand is hardly ever on time unless Tzila forces him to be.

Happy Storyteller Saturday! What's an interesting fact about your OC that they don't think is very interesting?

*grins* thanks for the STS @raevenlywrites! 

Jon would say his linguistic abilities are not all that interesting compared to other skills and abilities he has. It really is amazing, as he knows six languages fluently by the time he’s twenty five, and still intentionally learning more. 

Donjae will sometimes be found singing to himself. He doesn’t think anything of it even though he has perfect pitch and can exactly replicate the tones of any song he hears.

Jamie is naturally a chameleon, able to mimic nearly anyone and hide in plain sight. He takes to a level few, even with training, can reach but doesn’t think that it’s all that interesting a skill to have, just part of what he needs to survive and work.

Oh, I love characters like that who have their areas of just unwinding and enjoyment. 

Luc is often seen as cold and unfeeling by those who belong to the Marko Syndicate/Company, that is until they see him with his soulmate, then they are shocked to see otherwise!

OC ask: Tell about everyone's favorite way to spend a cold, rainy night.

Everyone? That’s an awful lot, how about I stick to the main 9 for now, and if you want more I can totally do that!

Jon - curled up under a blanket, preferably cuddling with Luc, reading or working on his laptop

Luc - in front of a nice fire, otherwise he likes most of Jon’s plan, he’s not a laptop user, though he does like the tablet Jon made him

Isaac - drunk or in bed with someone

Sparks - listening to music, playing games with the kids or relaxing, definitely not going near outside

Sitara - spend some time in the warm green house, delighting in watching how the weather is much different outside and rejoicing in the diversity of life, followed by a nice hot bath and snuggling time 

Nazreen - settled on the bed with her daughter, reading or studying

Iov - curled up under as many blankets as he can, most likely by himself and wishing he wasn’t

Pavel - baking, once the baking is done, join Iov and feed his best friend tasty warm treats

Emere - she’s the family weirdo who enjoys cold rain, so she’s probably out for a run, then when she gets back, she’ll take a hot shower and depending on her mood is what happens after *smirks*

Thanks Anon! I’m not sure if you mean three in total, or three a piece, so here is three a piece. 

Jon 

favorite texture: soft cotton

favorite tool: technically it’s a kit, the one da got me, it is a combination of thieves tools and jewelers tools

daydream: while I know it’s impossible, I often dream of introducing my soulmates to my parents, how each of them would have reacted.

Luc

I have a wide variety of books and several different degrees, though they are all under my Russian cover name

When Jon said he was considering a degree - or three - I grinned and pointed him towards our library, commenting “We’ve got plenty of room for more books.”

I was surprised how much I enjoy a good cuddle knowing my partner wasn’t going to try killing me and without sex.

Isaac

I have made my own suits on several occasions, particularly when I am desiring something a little less masculine but not necessarily feminine

skirts are comfortable, though I don’t own a lot of them. 

I once had to travel as a peddler to get out of a sticky situation, I sold hand made windchimes and whistles.

Luc is a horrible patient, he hates being bed bound, so Jon reads to him to keep him occupied. He’ll never admit it where anyone else can hear him, but Luc loves that. Particularly since they end up pressed together from ankle to shoulder as Jon does so. 

Jon enjoys the quiet cuddling and getting to read to Luc, he sees it as a bonding experience, that it helps keep his soulmate from going bonkers is just a plus

Jon also enjoys the reading to Luc because it allows him to practice in languages he doesn’t get to use as often since Luc knows a few of his languages. 

Valentin finds it equally fascinating and terrifying the way his son curls up with the leader of a crime syndicate and reads to him. He’s aware that there is a lot he doesn’t know about Isha due to knowing him such a short time, but the idea that his son is a match to such a deadly person scares him.

Jon - sometimes I write letters to my parental triad in their native languages. Well, mum and pops in their native languages, da really depends on my mood. I know that they’ll never be read, but it’s nice to get a chance to speak to them, even just through letters.

Sappy as it may seem, Luc to Jon. Luc as an assassin and crime syndicate leader definitely has questioned whether he is a decent person or not. Then he meets Jon, and that is just magnifies his feelings on the matter.

Jon - the collection of books he has when Luc first meets him isn’t all his books, those are just some favorites and some new ones, the rest are in his home in London, carefully put away and cared for by the house keeper.

which one of your characters is most likely to write long, winded letters to their loved one(s)?

Jon - written words are easier than spoken words sometimes, so I write out long letters to my family even though most the ones I write to are now dead. I also write letters to my soulmates. Before I met them I would write my letters about what I hoped for in our relationship, afterwards I wrote out things I am having difficult times with. 

Isaac - after Luc’s death I started writing letters to my dead soulmate, all the things I wish I could have said to him when he was alive. All the things I had hoped for that never came to be. 

Iov - Heloise suggested I start writing letters to my soulmates as a way to express myself since I have a hard time speaking aloud due to years of suppressing myself from fear. I found that I enjoyed it, it is an easier way for me communicate with them.

Thanks for the tag @raevenlywrites! I am now up to all the people who liked my post with the link character list having received at least one (mostly more) questions from me.

Why do you write LGBT+ characters?

Have you always written LGBT+ characters? If no, what inspired you to start? Is it a deliberate representational choice?

Do you use modern labels in your work? Why or why not?

Sparks  *grins and waves* I definitely qualify as big at 6′9, sadly I lost some height due to my teenage activities. Sitara and Aither both think I look good, though really I don’t see it half the time. 

Lettie *snickers and gives a graceful bow* I always startle people with the fact I am not clumsy. Too many skinny and slender folks need to get the idea out of their head that big does not equal able. I enjoy having clothes altered for me and enjoying as people stare at how perfectly I carry myself. 

Lo *smiles and invites everyone in for tea or other beverage of choice* what would you like to discuss? There are plenty of things I know, both about the Network and the world in general. *they play with the many bracelets on their left arm*

How do you feel about the world your author has created for you?

Aither - it’s better than the world the author lives in. Seriously, the author needs a few people like myself and Jon to help deal with some problems in the government, and if our more diplomatic (aka hacking for those who don’t know) methods don’t know, well, we have access to bunch of assassins, not even counting our significant others.

Lo *listens to the question as they settle on their seat, adjusting their robe like outfit to fan out* there are times I wish it was a bit more accepting of people like myself. However, Aither is correct in saying it is much better than the one the author is from. 

[Author: this is going to be a thing.]

Tichina - I am a solidly built WOC in a position of power and respected. While there have been struggles in my life, there have been a lot of times that are better than expected. I am able to save my kids (the teenagers and young adults on my sports teams and in my neighborhood) from the gangs and lives of poverty through education and opportunity. That counts for a lot considering out parallel world is not nearly as forgiving from my understanding. 

[Author: *sighs dramatically* this is what I get for being honest with them.]

Are you out? To whom, why or why not, etc?

Jon - pretty much everyone who has ever met me realizes that I am not quite like  the majority of people. Particularly if they start talking about how hot or attractive someone is. 

Isaac - I came out to my family as genderfluid and was promptly kicked out, since then I don’t really talk about it, I just live it.

Nazreen - only to my soulmates am I out. To everyone else I tell them to mind their business.

Tell us a little about your journey. Have you always IDed the way you do now? Are there parts of you you’re still figuring out?

Vasilia - I spent my childhood perfectly content as a boy, it wasn’t until I started going through puberty that I started feeling off. At which point I started lashing out. 

At everyone. It was the guard, Isa, that actually helped me realize what was going on as I watched them move around with complete confidence in the fact that they are not a man or a woman. 

Uncle Akaal put in some huge libraries in the building when we first moved in that are always being added to. Actually, those might be from Uncle Isha and Luc, and Aunt Aither. Anyways, I was able to do some research in them. I went through several labels before realizing I am a transwoman. My siblings and cousins were supportive along the way, and Uncle Akaal made sure I had everything I needed or wanted to try. 

Isaak - I’m still figuring myself out. I’m pretty sure that I am uninterested in sex, not sure if it’s because I am demi, ace, or simply haven’t met anyone I find appealing enough because I am picky. Or maybe it’s because of how focused I am on my studies. I’m not sure. *shrugs* at least I know my family will be supportive no matter how it goes. 

Marie - the first thing I realized when I entered puberty is the fact I like women, not men. My parents trying to have the safe sex talk with me was a hoot, at least looking back on that talk it was. At the time I blushed up a storm. 

Do you feel settled in your ID, or do you think it might change as you and your author go on?

Isaak - it’ll probably change since it’s not firm at this point. Besides, I’m four when the author meets me, and in my late teens when I start babbling about what I want with my future, there is plenty of time for growth and discovery. I have an entire book, maybe more to grow in! (thank you @lady-redshield-writes @essagandana @raevenlywrites and @ratracechronicler for encouraging the author on that. I love the fact I get a moon base farm!!!)

[Author: *sighs*]

Ioanna - I don’t know who I am. I hope to find out at some point, right now I am simply hurt and confused most the time, so I hope it will change as we go!

Diego - I like growing and changing, and hopefully I will continue to do so. I also like surprising the author, because it’s fun! Beside, the very nature of science is change. 

[Author: does anyone else’s characters make a point of driving them up a wall?]

Did your author always know you were [blank], or did you have to tell them? If yes, oh please, please tell us how! :3

Nazreen - I had to inform the author of my nature and I took my time doing so because I don’t like to talk about myself or share private details. The author only figured it out because I am sex repulsed and have a male soulmate who is not. Though he has been very good to me, accepting my boundaries in a way my ex-husband never did. 

Aither - oh yeah, the author always knew I was pan, even before knowing the actual word for it. Back then omnis-nihil which is extremely choppy Latin for ‘all-any’. 

Arona - no, the author didn’t always know, that detail was figured out when I had a freak out over the fact that I’m intersex and that’s why I haven’t gone through puberty like my sisters. It also happened to be the day my first soulmark started to appear. 

Is being [blank] particularly hard in your world? How does your society treat you differently than ours might?

Lo *makes sure everyone has drinks as they consider the answer* for the most part I am left alone and to my own devices. From my understanding of the author’s world, I would have probably ended up leaving my home and becoming a traveler trying to find a safe haven. Although, I have a feeling I wouldn’t be able to unless I bought an island in the middle of nowhere since things seem to be getting worse in the author’s world, not better.

[Author: really Lo? You couldn’t have just left it at ‘my world’s better?]

No. 

Isaac - being genderfluid can be complicated. It’s not one of the socially accepted ‘norms’ so people can be idiots about it. In a lot of ways they are the same, I can’t think of anything major different. Maybe I wouldn’t have been able to get a job quite so easily? Dunno. 

Aaron - it’s considered perfectly normal, so it is ignored by most. In the author’s world I might have had to worry about bigots or conversion therapy. The fact I am markless is more tricky than my orientation. 

Tell us a little about your unique experiences with your ID. Do you experience dysphoria? Is it impossible to find a date? Just want to find that special someone for snuggles but everyone expects sex? Unload for a minute, it’s okay to struggle sometimes.

Jamie - while rare, there are times I have to deal with dysphoria, that happens more on days I have a sudden shift from masculine to feminine. Particularly if the shift involves feeling like my chest is suddenly too flat. 

Dates are generally easy for me. I’m good at getting people to take me to dinner, dancing, movies, whatever sort of activity I feel like doing that night. 

I enjoy sex but get tired of having to explain myself first, so it doesn’t happen often. I don’t really trust people, so finding someone to snuggle with gets complicated at times because of that little detail. 

I work off a lot of frustrations in my grifting. Particularly on jerks who like to cause problems for people like me. It’s actually how I met Aither actually.

Vasilia - my dysphoria was a large part of why I was lashing out, as soon as it was identified Uncle Akaal made sure I got what I needed to help with it. There was some trial and error as we figured it out, and boy did I feel awkward discussing it with my Uncle, so he talked to Uncle Isha who then put me in touch with some other transladies. 

I’m a teenager for most of the story, and working on figuring out who I like so those don’t really apply yet?

I have bad days where I wish I would have been born a lady without having to go through all the processes to become one. I sometimes wish that I could have children, even though I know it’s probably never going to have. I want to be the carrier mother, even if I can’t be. Those thoughts are more common as I get older and my soulmarks start to appear. A lot of times on those days I end up curled up with my sister. She holds me while I cry and mourn what I can’t have. 

[Author: none of the others feels like discussing it right now.]

What’s the best part about being [blank] in your world?

[Author: no one is answering...really? I got over 500 of you peeps and no one wants to answer? Fine. Moving on.]

Do you like getting fan-mail? Would you like people to ask you more questions when this is over?

Sparks - ask away, I’m sure I am the most boring one in the bunch, but I know a lot of things due to years of working for and dating Aither.

Mara {I didn’t like all the traveling with my handler but I love my human. My human needs me. My human often thinks he isn’t a good human but he is. His mates think he’s great and scent mark him often to reassure him of this. I don’t think he understands. He will in time. I’ll help him.}

Sela - my twinlets are awesome! They could have been jerks about the fact I am technically two days younger, instead they declared the three of us have the same birthday. I hope they know how much I love them. 

Pyotr  *rubbing his neck nervously before straightening up to sign* I adore both my soulmates. Never sould I have guessed having a platonic soulmate, a non-romantic platonic soulmate would be in the cards for me, but it’s just right. We’re the best of friends, and I wouldn’t trade Marie for anyone else in the world.
