Twins Beat Up On Tigers In Opener!
Twins 9 Tigers 3 W-Lopez (9-7) L-Montero (1-4)
The Minnesota Twins started a big six-game road trip to close out July. The bats were up to the task as Byron Buxton started the scoring in the first. He knocked a Keider Montero slider out to left for a solo homer. The next batter, Trevor Larnach smacked a fastball out to right for a solo blast. The back-to-back homers put the Twins up by a pair before the Tigers grabbed a bat. Matt Wallner added a solo shot in the second to pad the Twins lead to three. The Tigers found some offense in the third when Carson Kelly was hit by a pitch and Javy Baez hammered a Pablo Lopez curveball out to left for a two-run homer. Detroit pulled within a run after three innings of play. The Twins would get those runs back and more in the fourth. Matt Wallner drew a one-out walk and Christian Vazquez singled to right. Willi Castro singled home a run and a bad throw by Colt Keith plated another. Byron Buxton lined a run-scoring double to left and the Twins lead grew to five. The Twins kept adding on in the sixth as Brooks Lee singled with one out and Christian Vazquez smacked a Joey Wentz offering out to left for a two-run homer. This put the Twins up 8-2 after six frames. The Tigers would have one more rally in them in the eighth. Mark Canha was hit by a pitch and Matt Vierling walked. Bligh Madris singled home a run before Josh Staumont got out of the inning. The Twins slowly loaded up the bases in the ninth and Brooks Lee drew a walk to plate home a run. Caelb Thielbar had a scoreless ninth and the Twins picked up the win tonight in Detroit.
-Final Thoughts- Pablo Lopez was very good tonight. He went seven innings and allowed two runs on six hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. Josh Staumont gave up a run in the eighth and Caleb Thielbar fanned one in the ninth. Brooks Lee and Christian Vazquez led the way with three hits. Byron Buxton added two hits. The Twins hit 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Royce Lewis was activated off the injured list and Jair Camargo was optioned back to St. Paul. Tomorrow, Joe Ryan faces Tarik Skubal in the series finale.

The Minnesota Twins picked up a nice win to start the series over the Tigers last night. The second game was on a gorgeous night at Target Field. Tigers Stave Off Twins To Split Series.
Tigers 8 Twins 7 W-Holton (2-2) L-Jax (5-7)
The Minnesota Twins picked up a thrilling win over the Tigers last night on a late Matt Wallner grand slam. The final meeting of the season between the two teams was this afternoon at Target Field. The Twins struck first in the first inning as Max Kepler was hit by a pitch and Royce Lewis doubled him home. Minnesota had a one-run lead after an inning of play. The Twins got back to work in the second as Christian Vazquez reached on an infield hit and Joey Gallo and Kyle Farmer singled. Eddie Julien knocked in a pair with a single to center and Jorge Polanco hit a sac fly. This put the Twins up by four after two frames. The Tigers bats would get hot in the third as Akil Baddoo led-off with a single to right. Riley Greene smoked a fastball out to right-center for a two-run homer. Later in the inning, Spencer Torkelson crushed a Kenta Maeda curveball out to left for a solo blast. This pulled Detroit within a run after three innings of play. The bullpens held up in the middle innings after short starts. The Tigers would rally again in the seventh as Akil Baddoo drew a one-out walk. Riley Greene tripled him home to tie the game and Matt Vierling hit an RBI groundout. Spencer Torkelson and Kerry Carpenter both drilled Griffin Jax sliders out to left for solo shots. This put the Twins up 7-3 heading into the seventh inning stretch. Akil Baddoo ignited a ninth inning rally with a lead-off walk. He stole second and reached third on a bad throw from Christian Vazquez. Riley Greene hit a sac fly to drive him him and Detroit led 8-4. The Twins would not go away in the ninth as Eddie Julien led-off with a base hit. Jorge Polanco smoked a Jason Foley fastball out to center and Max Kepler knocked a fastball out to right. The two homers pulled the Twins within a run. Royce Lewis followed with a base hit to center and Matt Wallner had a ball die on the left field warning track. Donovan Solano hit into a game-ending double play and the Tigers split a pair with the Twins this week.
-Final Thoughts- Kenta Maeda wasn't sharp today and it showed. He went four-plus innings and allowed three runs on seven hits with a walk and six strikeouts. Dylan Floro put up a zero in the fifth, Emilio Pagan had a scoreless sixth, and Griffin Jax was awful in the seventh. He gave up four runs (two home runs) on three hits with a walk. Jordan Balazovic had a clean eighth and Josh Winder gave up a run in the ninth. Eddie Julien led the team with four hits on the day. Royce Lewis tallied three hits today as well. The Twins hit 3-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Carlos Correa was going to hit for Christian Vazquez if Donovan Solano didn't hit into a double play to end the game. The Twins have tomorrow off before the Pirates come to town. Andre Jackson will face Pablo Lopez in the opener on Friday night.

Twins Rally In 10th To Beat Tigers!
Twins 6 Tigers 3 W-Jax (4-6) L-White (1-1) SV-Duran (11)
The Twins have had a tough time with the Tigers over the past week. Detroit has taken four of six games and the series finale was this afternoon at Comerica Park. The Twins struck first in the third inning as Christian Vazquez led-off with a base hit to right. With two outs, Donovan Solano unloaded on a Michael Lorenzen slider and sent it out to left-center for a two-run homer. The Tigers answered in the third with a Matt Vierling infield single and Jake Rogers lined a double to left. Zack McKinstry plated a pair with a double to right to even the game at two apiece. Kerry Carpenter singled home another run to put Detroit on top. Bailey Ober and Michael Lorenzen put up zeroes and settled things down throughout the middle innings. The Twins would get back to work in the eighth. Royce Lewis drew a two-out walk and would score on a Ryan Jeffers single to left. This tied the game at three and the bullpens held serve in the ninth, so we headed to extra innings. Carlos Correa started the tenth at second and Royce Lewis blooped a single to left. Correa scored on the play and the Twins took a 4-3 lead. Ryan Jeffers bunted Lewis over to third base. Willi Castro lined a run-scoring single to right and Minnesota extended their lead two. With two outs, Christian Vazquez plated another run with a single to right. The Twins took a three-run lead going into the bottom of the tenth. Jhoan Duran put up a zero in the tenth and the Twins took the series from the Tigers.
-Final Thoughts- Bailey Ober had one bad inning and pitched well the rest of the way. He threw six innings and allowed three runs on five hits with eight strikeouts and a walk. Jordan Balazovic got the first two out of the seventh and Brent Headrick got out of the seventh. Brock Stewart fanned two in the eighth, Griffin Jax had a scoreless ninth, and Jhoan Duran picked up the save in the tenth. Royce Lewis led the way with three hits. Eddie Julien, Donovan Solano, Willi Castro, and Christian Vazquez had two hits each. The Twins hit 5-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Byron Buxton pinch-hit, so his back must be feeling better. The team will head to Atlanta to play the Braves this week. Sonny Gray will face Spencer Strider in the series opener tomorrow night.
