I agree with a lot of your Hawkami post. I love them (actually a lot one of my favourite Fire relationships) but I've always accepted the Gallo is the full time character, has actively maintaindled feelings for her and therefore they'll circle back to them. But so not like this. I needed them both to be in a better place but specifically for Gallo to grow up and be worthy of Violet. Instead the bit of Violets development we did get is being reverted into poor communications and games.
Yes, exactly!
I'm absolutely prepared for Hawkami to not be endgame, to not have their happily ever after, and to break my heart completely. It's just that, when that happens, I want it to be for a good reason, not because they were manipulated and their relationship issues come from someone outside of the relationship.
As for Gallo, I hope he gets some actual growth next season. I really appreciate that, in the second half of this season, he's been mature enough to step back and be Violet's friend, first and foremost, and isn't trying to play the woe is me friendzone card? That, in itself, shows growth from when we first met him, but he absolutely has a long way to go before I think he and Violet can have something real and lasting. That in mind, he is still a kid, comparatively, like I think he's my age, and he doesn't have to have everything figured out yet. I'm excited to watch him grow into himself separate of growing up to be worthy of a relationship.
And yes, everything you said, all of it. I want Violet to have a storyline outside of relationships entirely, if that's feasible to include with a main cast of this size? I feel like a lot of her stuff since she was introduced has been her on-off thing with Gallo and then the drama with Evan and Emma, and while that's all fine and good and fun to watch, she is her own person, too, and I'd love to see more of her.
I will always support separate character growth over focusing all the screentime and writing on the romantic relationships, and all of this with Hawkami and Gallo isn't any different.
Thanks for the message, nonny! 💜

Can’t remember if I’ve heard your thoughts on hawkami before, so that’d be fun!
I will be the first to admit that I was very indifferent on Hawkami when I first saw them. I was very neutral at first, leaning more negative, actually. I think I had the same first impression that Gallo had, way back when, that their positions within the CFD would make a relationship very hard to navigate without creating conflict of interest down the line. Personally, I think that kind of relationship is very hard to execute well in media. I didn't want to get attached and then end up burned by unnecessary drama down the line ruining something that could have been really good.
And then they did the Emma storyline, and while I was already growing to love Hawkami and their relationship, definitely more positive even if I wasn't actively shipping it, the finale really sold me on them. I love them so much. However...
under a cut because discussion of the finale as well as hopes for next season, because that's my vibe today I guess 💜
Look, when I was watching through to get caught up back in the fall, I stayed very neutral-positive on a lot of relationships that I knew were fleeting. I didn't want to get super attached and end up sad when those ships split in a few episodes. But Gallo/Violet was one of those exceptions. I thought they were really cute, even if they weren't forever material, you know? And I maintain that they wouldn't be a bad couple if they ended up together again
(my shit is ships like that, where these people maybe grew apart from this dynamic that they once had, grew as their own people separately, and then came back together, and I think that's why I love Moustead reunion AUs and canon Burzek so much but that's a different essay)
And I'll be the first to admit that Gallo/Violet could be something like that, with all of that growth and beauty and narratively it could all be wonderful. But not like this.
I need what happened with Evan and Violet last night to just be a miscommunication. I understand where she's coming from, she didn't see the effort he was putting in to help her even though it was definitely there, but I also get why he didn't tell her (and also when did he have time?). I need a moment next season, preferably in the first episode, where they talk about things and they fix this communication issue they have, because they really could get back to that good, easy thing they had a few episodes ago before the drama started.
Evan was so ready to give up his entire life and the entire career he built if it meant Violet got to stay where she wanted and where she was happiest, and I need her to know that before she makes any important decisions regarding their relationship.
If they're really going to break them up, then they need to rip the bandage off and do it, not hide behind a miscommunication and a vague Violet is unhappy with this situation vibe.

Will you tell me about the fire based mouse stays au re:Emma?
I've talked about this AU before, but not really in depth. It's still very much so this self indulgent day dream, but there are a couple little moments that occurred to me last night while watching the Fire finale that I thought were really funny, so I'm adding to my little stash of scenes to think about before bed.
List of said scenes below the cut because I'm aware of who I am it's gonna be a little long, and also some spoilers for the finale, kinda? vague spoilers
Mouse absolutely gets along with the Kids™ (Gallo&Violet&Ritter) of the firehouse really well, which makes for some fun friendship moments. Every once in a while, I think about Gallo and Violet's maybe-maybe-not relationship and how Mouse and Ritter would absolutely affectionately talk shit about it just "the straights are at it again" because... it's funny and I deserve soft chaos sometimes
In the same Mouse and the Kids™ vein, he calls Trudy and Mouch "mom" and "dad" which causes a little bit of confusion. Violet has figured it out, because at any given moment she has the brain cell, and she knows that they are not biologically his parents, and Ritter probably would have figured it out, but there is definitely a point where he sits them all down and gently explains that he's not actually related to Plouch, he just lives with them and they're more family than his biological parents ever were (in an ideal scenario, this comes about when Mouch tries to give parenting advice to Cruz, and Gallo doesn't understand why he gets a weird look for it and just "well, what did you do when Mouse was a kid?" because... look, I love Gallo, he's trying, but he doesn't... know things?)
Mouse absolutely brings food or cooks at the firehouse at least once a week. he's unofficially on the schedule for dinner duty and he has a great time with it. the firehouse is his found family now, because he deserves good things. yes, he and Ritter team up for chili cook offs and they kick ass
please don't talk to me about Tuesday because I'm still incredibly sad about also yes he loves Tuesday. I don't have anything to expand on there, just that Mouse is an animal person and that includes firehouse dog
on to the Emma stuff: when she first shows up in canon, she flirts with Gallo to try to stir up needless drama which is funny in its own way, but I think it would be extra funny if her first shift happened to be a day that Mouse was on dinner duty, so she tried flirting with him instead. it would just be a rehash of that one scene from the Fire pilot(?) where they send Mills over to hit on Shay and it's the little "are you gay? because I am" conversation but quite frankly that's what I deserve, so I'm gonna think about it constantly
there is a version of this AU where Mouse also works part time at the firehouse? just basic secretarial stuff, taking care of paperwork, no further details here just that he has some claim to the office even if he shares it. it's nothing like his tech work with Intelligence but he likes the firehouse better so he'll take it, you know? but in the finale last night, when Sylvie was talking to Violet and everyone, Emma walked in and used the copier/fax machine/I wasn't paying that much attention but it was big and it was an office machine. and we know from Marina that Mouse hates having his things touched. so there is a scene in my head where he walks back into the office with like a mug of tea or whatever he went to get, after Emma walks out, and just looks over and "??? who touched my copier?" like cranky but assumes it was Violet or Sylvie and they have permission to do that kind of thing
this AU is chaotic and nonsensical but that's how I live my life so here is where I will stay
yes, he was invited to the Stellaride wedding in this AU

staring at Fire canon giving us Plouch hosting game night while holding like nine Platt Fam AUs to my chest
are the kids invited to game night? is it a family game night or a couples’ game night? can they bring Jay and Adam or would that be too many people for an organized game night?
